Prentice Osbin "P.O." Weller

Prentice Osbin "P.O." Weller, 74, of Piggott died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born Sept. 16, 1929, in Crockett, the son of the late George Riley and Verlie Mae Grissom Weller.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Fern Woods on Dec. 7, 1949. To this union four children were born.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Fern Weller; one son, Prentice Estel "Bud" Weller; one daughter, Gladys Faye Higdon; two brothers, John and Bill Weller; and three sisters, Katie Finley, Mattie McCamey and Lillian Sprouse.

He is survived by two daughters, Sue Stidham and husband, Frank, of Rector and Genie Bradshaw of Corning; five grandchildren, Tina Bennett, Tiffany Tester, JoJo Stidham, Robert Leggett and Michael Leggett; six great-grandchildren, Tyler Bennett, Colton Stidham, Brandon Stidham, Justin Leggett, Jasmine Leggett and Jordan Leggett; one brother, James Weller of McDougal; three sisters, Mary Householder, Nellie White and Lillie Bailey, all of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Joe Payne officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers were J.B. Featherston, Lester Edwards, Gerald Morris, Harold Piland, Steve Edwards and Eugene Mann. Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Bennett, Colton Stidham, Brandon Stidham, Justin Leggett, Jasmine Leggett and Jordan Leggett.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Carole Peterson Nutall

Carole Peterson Nuttall, 68, of Piggott died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born Jan. 14, 1936, the daughter of the late William Arthur "Otto" and Rutha Elnora Coyle Peterson.

She was united in marriage to Robert Nuttall in June of 1967.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Morris Peterson; and one sister, Clarice Peterson.

She is survived by one brother, Norman Peterson of Palatka, Fla.; three sisters, Shirley Stone of Piggott, Sheila Young of Gainsboro, Tenn., and Mary Curnutte of Farmington Hills, Mich.; one nephew, Dennis Curnutte; two nieces, Diane Weir and Beth Jones; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Richard Akins officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Gurley, Dennis Adams, Douglas Grooms, Jeremy Grooms, Bill Hayes and Ralph Hayes. Honorary pallbearers were Elmo Moore, J.R. Henfling and Duane Zacek.

Willa Dee Brandon

Willa Dee Brandon, 79, of Piggott died Feb. 2, 2004, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

She was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Illinois. She moved to Piggott as a child with her parents, the late Emery and Clarice Gross Peters.

She was united in marriage to Ray Brandon on June 28, 1946. They were the parents of one daughter, Carolyn Alford.

Mrs. Brandon worked at Brown Shoe Company in her early years and was a devoted homemaker until her husband's death on Sept. 3, 2001. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended regularly as long as she was able.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Tommy Peters; and one sister, Clarabell.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Alford of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, June Hollinger of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Suzann Perry of Decatur, Ga.; one brother-in-law and wife, James "Bo" and Josie Brandon of Piggott; two grandchildren, Bonnie and Steven Alford; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (today), Feb. 4, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial will be in the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Viewing will start at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4. Pallbearers will be Todd Watson, Jim Watson, Keith Woolverton, John Brandon, Tommy Hardcastle and Bobby Shanklin.

Dorothy Todd

Dorothy Todd, 65, of Rector died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born April 11, 1938, the daughter of the late Louie "Doc" and Mary Bell Grissom Eason.

She was united in marriage to Hershal Eddie Todd on Dec. 8, 1996.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, five brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband, Hershal Eddie Todd of Rector; five children, Raymond Fancher of Locust Grove, Va., Nina Hearn of Green Cove Springs, Fla., Reginald Fancher of Fort Scott, Kan., Kathy Fancher of Stedman, North Carolina, and Cara L. Fancher Shields-Todd of Kansas City, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Todd of Summerville, Mo.; one brother, Jack Eason of McDougal; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Bobby Floyd officiating.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Lavada Leona Rainey Cash

Lavada Leona Rainey Cash, 86, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004.

She was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Formosa, Ark., to Thomas Richard and Willie Myrtle Oates Rainey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Richard and Willie Myrtle Oates Rainey; her husband, Robert James Cash; her daughter, Bette Joan Cash; her brother, Raymond Richard Rainey; and two sisters, Thelma Jean Rainey Gordon and Gwendolyn Ramona Rainey Hilley.

Survivors include her son, Billie Charles Cash of Okeechobee, Fla.; her daughter, Roberta (Bobbi) Pauline Cash of Las Cruces; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Norm Storey of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mrs. Cash's grandson, Kenneth Richard Shannon; her great-granddaughter, Heather Shannon Tucker; and her great-grandson-in-law, Randy Farmer.

Baca's Funeral Chapel of Las Cruces was in charge of the arrangements.

Velma L. Rice

Velma L. Rice, 86, of Festus, formerly of Piggott, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at her home in Festus.

She was born June 23, 1917, in Pollard, the daughter of the late Euin and Belle McDonald Pillow.

She was united in marriage to George Spencer Pickering and he preceded her in death in 1959. She married Edwin Rice on Nov. 27, 1973.

Preceding her in death were one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin Rice of Festus; one son, Ted Pickering of Festus; one daughter, Deloris Bills of Pontiac, Mich.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Lentz of O'Fallon, Mo., and Josephine Hill of Palm Desert, Calif.; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Bill Neuman officiating. Burial will be in the Piggott Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday (today).

Jerry Jordan

Jerry Jordan, 85, of Success, Ark., died Jan. 24, 2004, at the John J. Pershing V.A. Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Hickoria, Ark., the son of R.O. and Effie White Hooper Jordan.

He was united in marriage to Virgie Mae Ellis on April 28, 1940. To this union 14 children were born.

Mr. Jordan was a disabled Veteran and a farmer. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Jordan attended the Success Pentecostal Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.O. and Effie Jordan; an infant son, Ray Dale Jordan; three brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Virgie Jordan of the home; six daughters, Shirley Reeves of Corning, Sharolette Crossen of Little Rock, Sandra Hall of Doniphan, Mo., Shelia Fowler of Corning, Sharon Johnson of Reyno, Ark., and Sherry Young of Poplar Bluff; seven sons, Jerry Wayne Jordan of Corning, Bill Jordan of Success, Ark., Keith Jordan of Success, Ark., Kenny Jordan of Florida, Lonnie Jordan of Florida, Timmy Jordan of Neelyville, Mo., and Danny Jordan of Success, Ark.; 36 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Billie Sandage of Florida; and one special niece, Barbara Reeves of Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with Rev. Richard Mayhan and Rev. Billy Snow officiating. Burial followed in the Corning Cemetery.

Ermert Funeral Home of Corning was in charge of the arrangements.

Versa Margrette Davis

Versa Margrette Davis, 97, of Clio, Mich., died Jan. 9, 2004, in Flint, Mich.

She was born Apr. 27, 1906, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Chapman Foltz.

She was united in marriage to Bill Davis on Oct. 5, 1925, to this union three children were born.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 1965; one daughter; two brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Harold Ray Davis of Blairville, Ga., and Billy Charles Davis of Clio, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Dale Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Bob White, Dale Davis, Doug Davis, Carl Davis, Chuck Petrosky and Jerry Paul Redmann.

Ronald Max Seal

Ronald Max Seal, 66, of East Prairie, Mo., died at 6:20 p.m., Jan. 12, 2004, at the Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tenn.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1937, in Piggott, the son of Faye Arnold Seal of Paragould and the late Frank Seal.

He had been the office manager at the Associated Natural Gas Company and retired in April of 1998. He was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ in Sikeston, a member of the East Prairie, Charleston, and Kennett Kiwanis Clubs, and a member of the Industrial Development Board of Mississippi County.

He married JoAnn Price on June 2, 1961, in Kennett and she survives, of the home in East Prairie.

Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Cindy Seal of Bentonville, Ark.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lori and Richard Schmitt of Irving, Texas, and Jill Seal of Laverne, Tenn.; two brothers, Jerry Seal of Vancouver, Wash., and Jim Seal of Piggott; four grandchildren, Kailey and Chloe Seal of Bentonville, and Tom and Mallory Schmitt of Irving, Texas.

Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004. Funeral services were in the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Officiating was Pat Hogan, minister at Shady Acres Church of Christ. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Ronald Shipman

Ronald Shipman, 52, of Caraway, Ark., died Jan. 15, 2004, at the Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born May 31, 1951, in Dexter. He was the son of the late Eullis and Zelma Potter Shipman. He married Doris Jones on April 7, 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; three sons, Shawn, Anthony and Brett Shipman; three daughters, Christy Woods, Jennifer Shipman and April Shipman, all of Caraway; six grandchildren; four brothers, Otis and Carroll of McDougal, Harold of Odessa, Mo., and Raymond of Aurora, Mo.; four sisters, Inez Willson of Millington, Mich., Wava Shipman of Piggott, Willene Wieners of Oak Grove, Mo., and Ruby Sanders of McDougal; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Owen Little officiating. Burial followed in the Mars Hill Cemetery in Crockett. Pallbearers were Clifford Shipman, Phillip Shipman, Tim Shipman, Alex Beshirs, Joe Williams and Gerald Shipman.
