Evelyn Gunn

Evelyn Gunn, 78, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Piggott, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Westwood Hills Healthcare Center in Poplar Bluff.

Ms. Gunn was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Poplar Bluff. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a retired nursing home nurse's assistant.

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Armstrong of Sterling Heights, Mich.; her mother, Stella (Loge) McGowen of Chickamauga, Ga.; two brothers, Wesley Carl McGowen of Chickamauga, Ga., and Bill McGowen of Winter Haven, Fla.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Cottrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff with Rev. Wayne Bowman officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Cottrell Funeral Service of Poplar Bluff was in charge of the arrangements.

Bertha A. Osborn

Bertha A. Osborn, 87, of Campbell died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

She was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Peach Orchard, Ark., the daughter of Thomas Edward and Rose Etta Like Thacker.

She was united in marriage to Thomas William Osborn on August 18, 1939, in Kennett. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1987.

Mrs. Osborn was a housewife and of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Rose Etta Thacker; one son, Gerald Ray Osborn; one daughter, Sharon Osborn; two brothers; three sisters; and two grandsons, Shannon Osborn and Anthony Wayne Huckabee.

She is survived by two daughters, Etta Stockman of St. Francis and Linda Garris and husband, Larry, of Campbell; two sons, William Thomas Osborn and wife, Marieta, of Wappapello, Mo., and Daniel Edward Osborn and wife, Linda Mae, of Campbell; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, at Landess Funeral Chapel in Kennett with Rev. Gary Williams officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Landess Addition in Campbell.

Landess Funeral Home of Campbell was in charge of the arrangements.

James W. "Bill" Dickerson

James W. "Bill" Dickerson, 77, of Piggott died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born May 14, 1926, in St. Francis, the son of the late Ambers Edgar and Ada Knox Dickerson.

He was united in marriage to Pat Mowery on Aug. 17, 1957, to this union one son was born.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and later in the United States Air Force. He retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster in St. Francis. Mr. Dickerson was a member of the St. Francis Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Eastern Star Masonic Lodge #207 in St. Francis.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Dickerson; and three sisters, Morine Todd, Marie Sneed and Evelyn Cole.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Dickerson of Piggott; one son, Mike Dickerson and wife, Kelli, of Paragould; two grandsons, Kyle and Kade Dickerson; one brother, Willard Dickerson of Selmar, Tenn.; two sisters, Velma Davis of Sikeston and Ada Lou Dalton of Melvindale, Mich.; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (today), Feb. 25, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with O.H. Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Lingle, Jerry Davis, Ronnie Cole, Joe Mowery, Tony Mann and Tony Neeley.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Selma Lee Grigsby

Selma Lee Grigsby, 76, died Jan. 10, 2004, at Crestpark Retirement Home in Marianna, Ark.

She was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Leachville, the daughter of Charlie Perry and Dool Mae Gatlin Gray.

She was united in marriage to Thedell Grigsby. Mrs. Grigsby was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Dool Mae Gray of Leachville; two step-brothers, Merl O.Gray of Piggott and Leonard T.Gray of St.Louis; two sisters, Roxie Basinger of Bald Knob, Ophelia Kinder of Michigan; and one half-brother, Cletis Morrison of Leachville.

She is survived by her husband, Thedell Grigsby of Aubrey, Ark., two sons, Elder Carroll Grigsby and wife, Dee, of Richwood, Texas, and Elder Harold Grigsby and wife, Laura, of McDougal; one sister, Euphmeria Merckley and husband, Arthur, of Three Rivers, Mich.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Landmark Baptist Church in Aubrey, Ark., with Rev. James Hinkle officiating.

Burial was in Marianna Memorial Park in Marianna with Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Joe Statler

Joe Statler, 63, of Rector, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at his home.

He was born May 25, 1940, in Clay County to Birtlee (Stevens) Statler and the late Barney Statler.

He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment of Paragould, a lifelong member of the community and a member and deacon of Union Home General Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carmeleta Holmes Statler, of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rhonda Clayton of Rector and Jodie and Ben Holder of Paragould; his mother, Birtlee Statler of Clay County; three brothers, Jerry Statler of Michigan and Bill Statler and Bob Statler, both of Rector; one sister, Nadine Statler of Little Rock; two grandchildren, a special grandson, Aaron Clayton of Rector, and Valerie Holder of Paragould, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Kenny Burns, Bro. Futrell Butler and Bro. J.C. Joyner officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery with Irby Funeral Home of Rector in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers were Randy Caldwell, Perry Wayne, Bruce Miller, Derek Miller, Chris Holmes and Greg Statler.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Owens, Doyle Webb, Curtis Barker, Dennis Wheeler, Bill Pillow, Ivan Smart and Dalton Staggs.

Madelene Chiles Clark

Madelene Chiles Clark, 85, of Jonesboro, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at her home.

She was born in Greenway and lived in West Memphis before moving to Jonesboro in 1951.

She was a school teacher for the Jonesboro Public School District for over 20 years before her retirement; a graduate of Arkansas State University, where she obtained a B.S.E. in Business Education and a Master's degree in Business Administration. She was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ and attended the Southwest Church of Christ for many years where she served as tour guide for the Classic Seniors group.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Norman Clark, in 1973.

Survivors include one son, Thomas C. Clark of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Susan M. Carrier of Plano, Texas; one brother, R.B. Chiles of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren, Brad Clark, Barry Clark, Deborah Carrier and Lisa Crabtree; and two great-grandchildren, Hallie Crabtree and Weston Crabtree.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in the Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Jimmy Young officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Brockwell, Jim Sanders, Jim Craft, Rufus Stidman, Harold Crall and Ken Wallace. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Whitaker, Charles Ross, Charles Randle, Harold Ferguson, Bill Harris, Pete Webb and Arlie Williams.

Memorials may be made to Children's Homes, Inc., 5515 Old Walcott Road, Paragould, Ark. 72450.

Helen Forrest Lankford

Helen Forrest Lankford, 90, of Piggott died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in the Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Piggott.

She was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Pollard, the daughter of the late Samuel W. and Mattie Pollard Forrest.

She was united in marriage to Rudy Lankford on Aug. 29, 1935, to this union three sons were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy, on July 2, 1996; one son, Thomas Wayne Lankford; three brothers, Hershell Forrest, Zell Forrest and Earnest Forrest; and two sisters, Vhiere Payne and Lola Payne.

She is survived by two sons, James Emroy Lankford of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Darrell Ray Lankford of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Lela Bare of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Mike Book officiating.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Billie Lee Golden

Billie Lee Golden, 72, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, April 7, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Alexandria, La., she lived in Fayetteville before moving to Jonesboro in 1966.

She was a retired high school business education teacher and taught in Prairie Grove, Piggott and Paragould. She was a graduate of Arkansas State University and earned a master's degree in business education from the University of Arkansas.

Mrs. Golden was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she was a primary class teacher. She was a member of the ASU Faculty Women's Club and a member of the St. Bernards Auxiliary. She was also a Master Gardener.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James F. Golden in 1987.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. James W. Golden of Little Rock and Dr. Stephen C. Golden of Jonesboro; one daughter, Dr. Nickie L. Golden of Honolulu, Hawaii; and four granddaughters, Leigh Ann Golden and Nancy E. Golden, both of Maumelle, Lyndsey B. Golden of Richmond, Va., and Kelsey C. Golden of Pocahontas.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at the First Baptist Chuch of Jonesboro with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial followed in Nettleton Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Malcolm Culpepper, Mike Ebbert, Dr. Willie Hurst, Dr. Dan Johnson, Cecil Massey and Paul Eiland.

Honorary pallbearers included Marlin Gennings, Emil Williams, Dr. Robert Abbott, Blanche Abbott, Billie Black, Dr. Michael Isaacson and Dr. Robert Chester. Members of the Phebean's Sunday school class, St Bernards Auxiliary and Master Gardeners of Jonesboro were also honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 701 S. Main, Jonesboro, Ark. 72401, or to St. Bernards Auxiliary, 225 E. Jackson, Jonesboro, Ark. 72401.

Barbara Sue Hines

Barbara Sue Hines, 66, of Selmer, Tenn., died Monday, April 19, 2004, in Selmer.

She was a retired production worker for Brown Shoe Company and Owens-Corning. She was a member of the Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Clay and Ethel Ward Parker; two sisters, Lila Leigh Parker and Lois O'Connor; and three brothers, Earl Parker, Harold Parker and Robert Parker.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Hines; two daughters, Cindy Sample of Tulsa and Mary Vales of Luray, Tenn.; one son, Buster Rogers of Memphis; one step-son, Terry Hines of Poway, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jerry Parker.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer.

Burial was in Lake Hill Memorial Gardens in Bethel Springs, Tenn., with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer Inc. in charge of arrangements.
