Willie Ray James

Willie Ray James, 84, of Gosnell died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Kennett, the son of the late Aaron Moses and Marganie Limbaugh James.

He was united in marriage to Seena James, to this union three children were born. She preceded him in death. He then married Patsy Ann James, to this union two children were born.

Mr. James was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II.

In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur Franklin James, Gladys James, David Wayne James and Billy Joe James; and two sisters, Nadie Ann Horton and Mary Belle Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy, of the home; three sons, Jesse Ray James and Daniel Scott James, both of Superior, Wis., and Randall Ray James of Gosnell; two daughters, Seena Kay James Ernst of Duluth, Minn., and Tambra Speer of Pollard; three step-children, Teddy Wayne Pritchett of Chicago, Steve Pritchett of Paris, Texas, and James Charles Allen of Watts, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jessie James of Kennett and Charlie James of Marble Hill, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, at McDaniel Chapel in Kennett with Bro. Homer (Bud) Maxwell officiating. Music was provided by Ruby King and Jill Hooten. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Kennett. Active pallbearers were Gerry James, Michael James, James Edwards, George Archer, Charlie Bailey and Damon Bush. Honorary pallbearer was Wiley Hayes.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Williams

Kenneth Williams, 61, of Kennett died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born April 11, 1942, in Frisbee, Mo., the son of John Henry and Edna Jane Furlow Williams.

He was united in marriage to Rose Abney on June 4, 1965, in Piggott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Edna Jane Furlow Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Williams of Kennett; two daughters, Melissa Elser of Piggott and Tina Rinehart and Robert Flowers of Cooter, Mo.; one brother, Dewayne Williams of Blytheville; three sisters, Linda Frazier and husband, Nick, of Brownsville, Tenn., Teresa Beaver and husband, Daniel, of Kennett and Kathy Blankenship and husband, Phil, of Mickie, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Brianna Elser, R.J. Flowers and Mary Sue Flowers.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004, in the McDaniel Chapel in Kennett with Rev. Dan Leggett officiating. Burial followed in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway. Pallbearers were Lanny Wilson, Jeff Huskey, Scott Branum, Glenn Rinehart, Alvin Wilbanks and Eric Patterson.

Mitchell Funeral Service of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby Wayland Romine

Bobby Wayland Romine, 66, of Piggott died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born March 9, 1937, in Crockett, the son of the late Rudy Eugene and Sadie Cochran Romine.

He was united in marriage to Donna Jones on Feb. 21, 1962, in Pocahontas. To this union four children were born.

Mr. Romine was a retired employee of Piggott City, Light, and Water. He served in the Army National Guard. He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gaylon Romine.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Romine of the home; two sons, Steven Romine of Piggott and Bryan Romine of Piggott; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana Holifield and husband, Jack, of Piggott and Hope Calhoun and husband, Danny, of Piggott; one brother, Ronnie Romine and wife, Lynda, of Poplar Bluff; one sister-in-law, Terry Romine; three grandchildren, Brad Holifield and wife, Angie, Laura Holifield and Kindred McDaniel; one great-grandchild, Layton Holifield; several nieces and nephews; and family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Kevin Murray officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Active pallbearers were Lewis Conyers, Donald Box, Wayne Spicer, Tommy Wicker, Bill Kimbrel and Freddie Hartsfield. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Colter, Donald Foster and Mike Elkins.

Irby Funeral Service of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Leona Mae Conaway

Leona Mae Conaway, 78, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Piggott, died Friday, April 23, 2004, in Three Rivers Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

She was born March 12, 1926, in Carryville, the daughter of the late Marion Wilson and Orah Allman Young.

She was united in marriage to Curtis Edward Conaway Sr. on August 13, 1943. To this union six sons were born.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Earline Smith and Vera Woolridge. She was a member of the Chruch of Jesus Christ in Hayti. She was retired from the Hayti Hospital. She was known for all her beautiful hand quilting and sewing, and she enjoyed fishing. She treasured her family and was the happiest when they were all together. She is loved and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by her husband of the home; six sons, Curtis "Curt" Conaway Jr. and wife, Yolanda, of Farber, Mo., Dale "Wayne" Conaway of Fulton, Mo., Tony Richard Conaway and wife, Sharon, of Kennett, Benny Ray Conaway of Poplar Bluff, Gregory Allan Conaway of Old Mines, Mo., and David Conaway and wife, Tracie, of Troy, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cloyce Young of Cahokia, Ill., and Junior Young of Bellview, Mo.; one sister, Janice Lourance of Troy, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Jim Kirby officiating. Burial was in Williams Cemetery north of Piggott, with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Justin Ewing, Darrell Conaway, Richard Conaway, Jeff Conaway, Benny Ray Conaway II and Michael Conaway.

Brenda Glover

Brenda Glover, 57, of Piggott died Monday, March 15, 2004, in Three Rivers Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

She was born June 13, 1946, in Senath, the daughter of Ervin and Nellie Louise Medley Baird.

She was united in marriage to Ben Glover on Sept. 22, 1963.

She is survived by her husband, Ben Glover of Piggott; one daughter, Bennetta K. Sims and her husband, Michael, of Blytheville; one granddaughter, Brittany N. Sims of Senatobia, Miss.; her parents, Ervin and Nellie Baird of Senath; four brothers, Donald Baird of St. Louis, Ralph Baird of Paragould, Jerry Baird of Senath and Harold Baird of Kennett; four sisters, Judy Cassick of Concord, Calif., Carolyn Deniston of Kennett, Athena Baird of Senath and Linda Ridings of Senath; her best friends, Dr. Alvin and Eloise McGill of Blytheville; and a very dear friend, Betty Billings of Piggott.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004, at McDaniel Chapel in Kennett with Dr. Alvin McGill and Greg Pollock officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens in Kennett.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.

Luther A. Rice

Luther A. Rice, 73, of Piggott died Monday, March 15, 2004, in St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born on Jan. 17, 1931, in McDougal, the son of the late George Robert and Eatti Mae Morgan Rice.

He was united in marriage to Debbie Wilkes on March 22, 1991.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamila Mae Rice; and four sisters, Gladys Mcillwain, Mary Johnson, Francis Ellen Christian and Della Green.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Rice of Piggott; nine children, Charles Rice of Michigan, Rhonda Rice of Casseville, Mo., Beverly Rosson of Neelyville, Mo., Bobby Rice of Neelyville, Mo., Starla Gordon of DeSoto, Mo., Betty Ann Rice of St. Louis, Michael Shawn Hager of Greenway, Misty Dawn Russell of Potter, Nebr., and Christopher Gene Hager of Piggott; 26 grandchildren; two brothers, John Thomas Rice of Corning and George Robert Rice of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Danny Self officiating. Burial followed in the Corning Cemetery in Corning. Pallbearers were Allen Gordon, Justin Lewis, Timothy Tutor, Shawn Hager, Raymond Hobbs and Steve Wilkes.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Christine Cates

Christine Cates, 96, of Farmington, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington.

She was born Feb. 3, 1908, in Pocahontas, the daughter of the late John and Eva Hampton Beard.

She was united in marriage to James Frank Cates. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1981.

Mrs. Cates loved to garden, paint, cook and crochet. She was an avid reader of the Bible and western novels and loved her grandchildren. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Cates and John Cates; a granddaughter, Tammy Jean Cates; and one daughter-in-law, Mazie Cates.

She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Kimball and her husband, Steward, of Farmington; four grandsons, Danny Cates and his wife, Brenda, Mark Kimball and his wife, Cathy, Keith Kimball and his wife, Carol, and Kyle Kimball and his wife, Ellen; three granddaughters, Hassie, Vicky and Joyce; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Paul Hampton officiating. Burial followed in Hite Cemetery in Biggers, Ark.

Ermert Funeral Home of Corning was in charge of the arrangements.

Madeline Helton

Madeline Helton, 86, of Bay City, Mich., formerly of Piggott, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in the Carriage House Nursing Home in Bay City.

She was born July 11, 1917, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Jesse T. and Hazel Parker Brown.

She was united in marriage to Edd Elvin Helton on Oct. 13, 1934. To this union nine children were born.

She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Helton; one daughter, Patsy Huffman; and one brother, Donald R. Brown.

She is survived by seven children, Carlos Helton of Ft. Myers, Fla., Shirley Nickel of Mayville, Mich., Larry Helton of Hazel Park, Mich., Adell Buzzell of Onaway, Mich., Elaine Hockey of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Eddie Helton of Petoskey, Mich., and B. J. Helton of Saginaw, Mich.; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald P. Brown of Paragould; two sisters, Mildred Brown of Piggott and Reba Henson of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with James Brown officiating. Burial followd in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Mrs. Helton's grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Ervin Ward Garner

Ervin Ward Garner, 72, of Bowling Green died March 10 at his home.

The Clay County native was a retired employee of General Motors and a member of Shadyland Church of Christ and previous member of Lehman Avenue Church of Christ. He was a son of the late Lester A. Garner and Hallie Downing Garner and the husband of the late Mary Catherine Adams Garner. He was also preceded in death by a daughter. Monica Holmes and a great-grandson, Seth Michael Garner.

The funeral was be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13 at the Hardy & Son Funeral Home in the Bowling Green chapel with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a daughter, Tena Gail Vivino and husband, Michael, of St. Louis, Mo.; five sons, Donald Garner and wife, Audrey Gail, of Ft. Hood Tex.; Michael Garner and wife, Pamela Gay, of Paint Lick; Richard Garner of Bowling Green; Brian Garner and wife, Kari, of Bowling Green; Joseph Garner and wife, April Lynn, of Spring Garden Ala.; a sister, Mary Sue Hardin and husband, Joe, of Corning; five brothers, Donald Garner and Bobby Garner of Piggott; William Garner and wife, Nellie, of Alhambra, Ill; Doyle Garner and wife, Rose, of Mount Olivet, Ill.; and Howard Garner and wife, Dene, of Ester, Mo.

Also eight grandchildren, Pamela Gail Dauffenbach; Dewayne Eugene Garner; James Michael Garner; Robery Wayne Garner; Joseph Lane Garner; Michael Shea Garner; Lauren McKenzie and Kaitlyn Alexandria Garner.

Carl Amberse Book

Carl Amberse Book, 72, of Mexico, Mo., died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Mexico.

He was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Carryville, the son of the late Floyd Ellis and Ernesteen Wright Book.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by three brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in the Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, with Rev. Ottis Book officiating.

Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
