Maedelle Johnson
Maedelle Johnson, 83, of Corning, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at the St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born June 2, 1920, in Halliday, Tenn., daughter of G.V. "Bud" Ellis and Ethel Erten Bond Ellis.
She married E.C. Johnson on Dec. 23, 1939, in Kennett.
She was a homemaker and a member of the General Baptist Church in Corning.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Kelsey Ellis, Wilburn Ellis, Illa Dee Ellis and Faye Ellis; and one sister, Sally King.
Survivors include: two sons, Joe Johnson and wife Terry of Corning, Jerry Johnson and wife Alma of Corning; two daughters, Willa Dean Hollis and husband Gilbert of Champaign, Ill., and Wilma Jean Atwood and husband Jim of O'Fallon, Mo.; two brothers, Elmer Ellis of Hunnington, Tenn., and Robert Ellis of Florida; three sisters, Genelle Griggs of Tecumseh, Mich., Mary Ellen Massengill of Dexter, and Odessa Downing of Dexter; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12 at Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with Rev. Don Dingus officiating.
Burial was in Corning Cemetery
with Ermert Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Van Johnson, Brian Hollis, Kent Hollis, Kevin Hollis, Jeff Atwood, Mike Couvion, Chad Day and Dave Lehmann.
Joe Nichols Jr.
Joe Nichols Jr., 79, of Piggott died Tuesday June 2, 2004, at his home.
He was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Piggott, son of the late Joe A. and Lora Lewis Nichols.
He married Anna Lee Rodery on Nov. 20, 1948. They had two children.
Nichols served as a master sergeant in the 101st airborne division in World War II. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife of the home; one son, Gary Nichols and wife, Marilyn, of Piggott; one daughter, Gayla Donner and husband, David, of Piggott; two grandsons, Brad Riddle and wife, Michelle, of St. Francis, and Rob Nichols and wife, Christy, of Sikeston; one granddaughter, Erica Harris and husband, Wade, of Piggott; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Cooper Harris and Caleb Riddle; two brothers, Hershel Nichols of Piggott, and Jimmy Nichols of Warsaw, Ky.; and one sister, Laurene Skidmore of Beebe.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Rev. Charles Cooper officiating.
Burial was at Gravel Hill Cemetery
in St. Francis with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Ira Causey, Keith Woolverton, Kirk Nichols, Ted McComb, Brett Baker and Rick Rodery.
Clifford Gerald Mayo
Clifford Gerald Mayo, 73, of Henderson, Ky., died at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Methodist Hospital.
He retired from Sears in Evansville, Ind. He was a 
Korean War, U.S. Army veteran and a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arbra and Sidney Edwards Mayo; one sister, Ramey Lee O'Neal; and one brother, Kenneth Mayo.
Survivors include this wife of 47 years, Annie Jean Mayo; two daughters, Sue Floyd of Henderson, and Sheri Leichhardt and her husband, Brett, of Louisville, Ky.; three sons, Jerry Mayo and Billy Hardin, both of Louisville, and Allen Mayo and his wife, Judi Farmer-Mayo, of Henderson; one sister, Ruby Irwin of Forrest City; seven grandchildren, Jon Floyd, Elizabeth Floyd, Anna Mayo, Jack Mayo, Mary Jane Mayo, Mason Leichhardt and Sidney Leichhardt; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson, with Father Jason McClure officiating.
Burial was in Fairmont Cemetery
with Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Scot E. Akers
Scot E. Akers, 37, of Jonesboro died Friday, June 18, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Kennett, the son of Robert D. and Nancy Terry Akers, he was a police officer with the Jonesboro Police Department. He had received a degree as a medical laboratory technologist. He attended the Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro.
In 1988 he married Shelly Henry of Kennett.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert D. Akers; paternal grandfather, P.H. Akers; and maternal grandfather, Everett Terry.
Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Brooke and Caitlin of the home; mother, Nancy Akers of Memphis; paternal grandmother, Nelldean Akers of Piggott; maternal grandmother, Ora B. Terry of Kennett; two sisters, Stephanie Lee of Memphis and Amy Andrews of Barrie, Ontario, Canada; four uncles, Tommy Terry of Kennett, Johnny Akers of San Bernadino, Calif., David Akers of Pheonix, Ariz., and Michael Akers of Piggott; and two aunts, Marilyn Low of Piggott and Brenda Dicus of Kennett.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Mike Martin and Jimmy Adcox officiating. The eulogy was given by Sgt. Cooper Taylor of the Jonesboro Police Department.
A committal service was held at 1 p.m. in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery
in Kennett.
Active pallbearers were the Jonesboro Police Department Honor Guards. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Jonesboro Police Department.
Opal Rodery
Opal Rodery, 84, a longtime resident of Carryville died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born April 29, 1920, in Carryville, the daughter of the late Alex and Ercria Lee Butler Madison.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Rodery on Sept. 21, 1941. They had six children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Rodery; a beloved son, Floyd Alan "Sonny" Rodery; one brother, Willard Madison; and two sisters, Ruby Wellman Case and Lucille Blackburn.
She is survived by five children, Regina Crittenden and husband, Jack, of Piggott and their two sons, Jason and wife, Tonya, and daughters, Allison and Madison, and Joseph and wife, Kristin; Rick Rodery and wife, Cheryl, of Piggott and their children, Graham "Sonny" and Alexandra; Ava Hankins and husband, Darrell, of Forrest City and their daughter, Amber, and step-son, Richard; Steve Rodery and wife, Brenda, of Marion, Ark., and their children, Benjamin Floyd, Stephanie and Shelby; Rebecca Riney and husband, Russell, of Fenton, Mo., and their children, Rachel and Logan; one sister, Sue Cole of Piggott; one brother, Wendell Madison of Kirkland, Wash.; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Richard Akins officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mrs. Rodery's grandsons, Jason Crittenden, Joseph Crittenden, Graham "Sonny" Rodery, Benjamin Floyd Rodery, Logan Riney and Richard Hankins.

Henrietta Young Willis
Henrietta Young Willis, 90, of McDougal, died Friday, May 14, 2004, in the Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Piggott.
She was born June 14, 1913, in McDougal, the daughter of the late Henry J. and Anna Hudspeth Young.
She was united in marriage to Harve Willis and to this union one son was born.
She was a member of the True Light Baptist Church in McDougal.
Preceding her in death was her husband, who died in 1936; a son, David Gean Willis who died in 2001; one brother, Frank Buster Young who died in 1936, two sisters, Alta May Young Parrish, in 1976, and Martha Young Welty, in 1985.
She is survived by two grand-daughters, Judy Adair and Barbara Sanders; two grandsons, David G. Willis Jr. and Robert Willis, all of Florrisant, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren, Chris Collins, Brian Adair, Matt Sanders, Nancy Sanders, April Sanders, Russell Sanders and Robert Willis Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 17, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Devon Young officiating.
Burial was in the Post Oak Cemetery
in McDougal with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of arrangements.
Marty Edward Hoggard
Marty Edward Hoggard, 41, of Piggott died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis.
He was born July 22, 1962, in Piggott, the son of Cornelious "Punk" and Joyce Gatlin Hoggard.
He was united in marriage to Laura Speer on December 14, 1996, to this union two sons were born.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Hoggard of Piggott; two sons, Brandon Marty Hoggard and Bradley Edward Hoggard of the home; two step-children, Melissa Bowers of Corning and Nikki Barker of Piggott; his parents; one sister, Debra Hoggard of Piggott; one grandmother, Oneida Gatlin of Piggott; three step-grandchildren, Matthew Bowers, Madison Bowers and Alex Bowers, all of Corning; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott with Ronnie Stevens officiating.
Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Johnny Fry, Doug Deckard, Tim Roberts, Scott Taylor, Houston Fry and Phillip Cross. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Fry Sr., Gene Johnson, Jim Ort, Eric Weeks, Ben Weeks, Jack Vaughn, Dewight McCoy, Jim Crowson, Eric Baker and all Fry Equipment employees.

Barbara Bell
Barbara Bell, 63, of Piggott died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.
She was born Jan. 6, 1941, the daughter of the late Ross and Ida Watkins Bell.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, L.C. Bell, Joe Bell and Leroy Bell.
She is survived by one sister, Rachel Hall of Piggott; one brother, Bob Bell of Piggott; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Kevin Murray officiating. Burial followed in Nimmons Cemetery
at Nimmons. Pallbearers were Jerry Cook, Clay Bell, Bill Holt, Tony Risinger, Leroy Gatlin, Wallace Gookin and David Bell.

Clifford "Pa" Hoyt Barnhart
Clifford "Pa" Hoyt Barnhart, 91, of Marmaduke, died Sunday April 4, 2004, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.
He was born Aug. 26, 1912, in Greene County to the late Lilburn Barnhart and Lena (Smith) Barnhart.
He was retired from the Greene County Road Department after 31 years of service, was a newspaper deliverer in Marmaduke for the Paragould Daily Press and a Marmaduke city employee. He was a lifelong member of the community and a member of Marmaduke General Baptist Church.
He was married March 11, 1938, to Nellie Mae Frances Golden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilburn and Lena Barnhart; his wife, Nellie Mae Barnhart; two sons, James Barnhart and Jerry Barnhart; one son-in-law, Ted Mitchell; one great-grandson, Andrew Mitchell; two brothers, Carmen "Cotton Boll" Barnhart and Dolf Barnhart.
He is survived by one son, Danny Barnhart of Marmaduke; one daughter, Frances Mitchell of Marmaduke; one daughter-in-law, Laveda Barnhart; one brother, Donald Barnhart of Arizona; six grandchildren, Scott Mitchell, Tammy Johns, Jerome Mitchell, Lisa Fletcher, Dale Mitchell, all of Paragould, and Jamie Bennett of Marmaduke; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Ann Stokes of Holy Pond, Ala.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday April 6, 2004, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Marmaduke with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial was in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery
in Marmaduke with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangement.
