Elsie Mae (Morrow) Parrish

Elsie Mae (Morrow) Parrish, 96, of Corning died Monday, Jan. 2, at her home.

She was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. Her hobby was raising irises in her flower garden.

She was married to F.E. Parrish on April 3, 1926. He preceded her in death.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ethridge and Sarah (Dennison) Morrow.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth Parrish of Corning; one daughter, Thelda Moody of Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. John Bradshaw officiating. Burial followed at the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Pallbearers were Chad Parrish, Roger Parrish, Danny Brothers and Ronnie Crews.

Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Reba Wood

Reba Wood, 93, of Piggott died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at her home in Piggott.

She was born on May 23, 1912, the daughter of the late Thomas Allen and Maudie Bell (Graddy) Duncan.

She was united in marriage to Thurman D. Wood on Jan. 13, 1929. They had two children.

She was a member of the South Thornton Street Church of Christ and worked at the Piggott Community Hospital for over 20 years. She loved to garden and quilt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman; brother, Billy Ray Duncan; and sister, Floye Wood.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gerry McCord of Piggott and Helen Merritt of Broseley, Mo.; three grandchildren, Randy McCord and Linda of Medford, Ore., Bobby Merritt and Brook of White Oak, Mo., and Becky Wilkerson and Andy of Dexter; five great-grandchildren, Justin McCord and Amber, Lauren McCord and Rachel McCord, all of Medford, Ore., Alyssa Spear of Dexter and Gavin Merritt of White Oak, Mo.; two brothers, Sam Duncan of South Lyon, Mich., and Dewayne Duncan of Arnold, Mo.; one sister, Dale Crowson of Piggott; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Randy McCord and Richard Akins officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Pallbearers were Bob Tidwell, Mike Eason, Bobby Merritt, Jimmy Graddy, Chartee Whaley and Kenneth Mills.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangments.

Alyeene Nanney

Alyeene Nanney, 86, of Greenway died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, in Jonesboro.

She was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Greenway, the daughter of the late William and Bessie Johnson Shaffer.

She was married on Dec. 9, 1939, to Obbie Nanney, who preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1960.

She was a Christian and very active in her church until her death. She was a member of the Greenway First Baptist Church. She was the postmaster at Greenway for 41 years and retired in 1999.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Craig Crittenden; a great-grandson, Michael Nanney; two sisters, Ruth Shaffer and Sarah Karnes; and two brothers, John and W.O. Shaffer.

She is survived by one son, Eugene Nanney and wife, Jackie, of Greenway; one daughter, Ann Crittenden and husband, Carlos, of Greenway; eight granddaughters; one grandson; six great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; three sisters, Dorothy Jackson of Jonesboro, Nina Long of South Lyon, Mich., and Naomi Shaffer of Jonesboro; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, in the Greenway First Baptist Church with David Finley officiating. Burial followed in the Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway. Pallbearers were Hardin Hill, Johnny Schmidt, Elvis Chavez, Harold Millikin, Larry Smith and Don Smith.

Vernie Lack

Vernie Lack, 83, of Piggott died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Williford, the daughter of the late James and Nora (Wilkerson) Ratliff.

She was married to Doise Lack on Oct. 23, 1943. They had two children.

Her religious affiliation was Church of Christ. She attended at Piggott and most recently at Greenway. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her garden, raising both vegetables and flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Millard Ratliff; and four sisters, Florence, Flossie, Irene Jane and Willie Marie Ratliff.

She is survived by her husband, Doise Lack of the home; one son, James Lack and wife, Sharlene, of Kennett; one daughter, Dian Herren and husband, Doug, of Corning; and three grandchildren, Tessa Lack, Melody French and Brian Herren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Jerry Cook officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Hardin Hill, Newton Wells Jr., Sidney Hollis, Brian Herren and Michael French.

Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Mack Garrett

Mack Garrett, 76, of Piggott died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in Memphis.

He was the son of the late Robert E. and Teadie Mae McCormick Garrett.

He was united in marriage to Wanda Wood, on Aug. 1, 1952. They had two sons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Garrett; and one granddaughter, Niequel Lee.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Garrett of Piggott; two sons, Danny Mack Garrett of Piggott and Perry Garrett of Arnold, Mo.; four grandchildren, Shannon Massey, Ashlie Williams, Bradley Garrett and Adam Garrett; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Massey and Kahlyn Awai; two sisters, Melba Joyce Hudson and Mary Gray of Piggott; one brother, Charles E. Garrett; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in the Piggott Cemetery with Richard Akins officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery.

Ora McGhee Claiborne

Ora McGhee Claiborne, 105, of Piggott died on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in the Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Piggott.

She was born on Oct. 7, 1900, the daughter of the late Walter C. and Laura (Hall) McGhee.

Mrs. Claiborne was a graduate of Piggott High School and also a graduate of the University of Arkansas. She was a dedicated teacher with over 40 years experience, several of which were spent teaching in the Piggott Schools.

She was preceded in death by Morris S. Claiborne, whom she married in 1946. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Guy McGhee, Ralph McGhee and Andrew McGhee; four sisters, Lucy Laughlin, Blanche McGhee, Hazel Spence and Claire McGhee; four nephews, Evan McGhee, Glen McGhee, Laymond McGhee and Jack McGhee; three nieces, Zelzie McGhee Reed, Rosalie Spence and Marianne Dosier.

She is survived by Marianne's five children, Richard A. Dosier, Rozanne Dosier Dillson, Kathryn Dosier Canada, James R. Dosier and Tara Dosier Carter; her other nephews, W.T. McGhee, Rev. James E. McGhee and James R. McGhee; her other nieces, Alma McGhee Daugherty, Mary McGhee Cordero, Ruby

McGhee Batson, Wanda McGhee Tressler and Billie Jean McGhee Weekner; and many other relatives, dear friends and students.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church in Piggott with her nephew, Rev. James E. McGhee, and Rev. Charles Cooper officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were David Gregory, Danny Baldwin, Bob Davis, Marvin Heaton, Rodney Rouse and Johnny Lingle. Honorary pallbearers were Hillard Duckworth, Jack Vaughn, Dub Smart, Denver Oxley and Marshall Wheeler.

Herbert Marion Lack

Herbert Marion Lack, 67, of Hartwell, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Hart County Hospital.

Born Dec. 20, 1938, in Piggott, he was the son of the late Cecil Lack and Almarita Haywood Lack.

He was a heavy equipment worker in manufacturing. Mr. Lack was a United States Navy Veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin M. Lack of Peru, Ind., and Brett Lack of Illnois; stepsons, Jeffrey Ziegler and Mitchell Ziegler of Wisconsin; stepchildren, Mark and Cindy; brothers David Lack and Sammy Winstead, both of Piggott; a sister, Linda Brown of Hartwell, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

The body was cremated and the family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, Ga., will be in charge of the arrangements.

James Otto Lack

James Otto Lack, 61, of Hartwell, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at Hart County Hospital.

Born Sept. 30, 1944, in Detroit, he was the son of the late Cecil Lack and Almarita Haywood Lack.

He was employed with Springs Industries in the maintenance department. He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Payne of Hartwell, Ga.; sons, Bradley Lack, Chris Lack and Lamar Lack, all of Hartwell, Ga.; a daughter, Tammy Ray Rice of Hartwell, Ga.; two brothers, David Lack and Sammy Winstead, both of Piggott; one sister, Linda Brown of Hartwell, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in the chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell, Ga., with Rev. Johnny Stowe officiating. Cremation followed the service. Burial will be in Arkansas at a later date.

Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, Ga., will be in charge of the arrangements.

Edna Finley Burk

Edna Finley Burk, 91, of McDougal died on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

She was born June 24, 1914, in Monette, the daughter of the late Harry and Mattie (Koster) Adams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Vance Finley, Homer Burton and Hurl Burk; one infant son, Gerald Finley; one son, Jairn Finley; and one sister, Essie Jackson.

She is survived by two children, Worlene Parrish and Rick Finley, both of McDougal; eight grandchildren, Terry Parrish, Susan Read, Misty Micenhamer, Cindy Roberts, J. Finley, Mike Finley, Ray Finley and Kelly Smith; several great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Woodrow Adams of McDougal; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Dr. Terry Parrish and Clay Parrish officiating. Burial followed in the Post Oak Cemetery in McDougal. Pallbearers were Clay Parrish, Michael Culver, Matt Culver, Brandon Finley, Sonny Rigdon and Bobby Brown.

Elbert Druie Rogers

Elbert Druie Rogers, 94, of Piggott died on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at the Jonesboro Health Care in Jonesboro.

He was born April 17, 1911, the son of the late Lewis Edgar and Bulah Hill Rogers.

He was united in marriage to Virgie M. Smith on Oct. 24, 1931. They had one son.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie; and one sister, Florene Sherraden.

He is survived by one son, Joe Rogers and wife, Melba, of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Preston Rogers and wife, Crystal, Melissa Rogers and Clifton Rogers and wife, Stacy, all of Jonesboro; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Joseph and Connor; one brother, Rue Porter Rogers of Piggott; one sister, Janavee Snure of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Shanklin, Don Roeder, Steve White, Allen Hardin, Tom Sneed and Joe Pace.
