Doyle K. Harmon

Doyle K. Harmon, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the St. Joseph's Home in Kenosha, Wis.

Born on March 8, 1925, in Gibson, Mo., he was the son of the late Clarence and Sarah (Ray) Harmon. He was raised and educated in Greenway and moved to Kenosha in 1947.

In May, 1944, he proudly began serving his country in Germany in the U.S. Army Infantry with the infamous, "Big Red One" Division. After being wounded in Feb., 1945, he was honorably discharged in Oct., 1945. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Purple Heart.

Harmon was employed with American Brass, Bardens, and then worked for thirty-four years at AMC/Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1987. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #72 Retirees.

Harmon was a member of Parkside Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on many committees at the church. He was a founder of Temple Baptist Church and served on the board of the Lakeland Baptist Association. He was a volunteer at the Shalom Center and delivering Meals on Wheels. His hobbies included antiques, refurbishing furniture, being a hand caner, and a rock enthusiast.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Raymond Birchett; brother, Floyd Harmon; and two sisters, Louise Ferguson and Ruby Spicer.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Maggie of Kenosha; four daughters, Carol (John) Kellum, Kaye (Tom Middlecamp) Rosko, Patricia (Michael) Tenuta, and Robin (Donald) Gillespie, all of Kenosha, Wis.; and grandchildren, Tammy (Daniel) Nevoraski, Andrew and Brian (Michelle) Kellum, Michael and David Rosko, Christine, John, and Michael Tenuta, and Adam, Aaron and Ellyn Mueller; and great-grandchildren, Samuel, Benjamin, Brian and Mark; a brother, Edward Harmon, of Flint, Tex., many other relatives and friends, and his special Jack Russell Terrier, Abby.

Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home in Kenosha. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 8, at Parkside Baptist Church in Kenosha.

At the family's request, memorial remembrances may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 6130 W. National Ave., Ste. 200, Milwaukee, WI. 53214-3265, or the Parkside Baptist Church Building Fund in Kenosha.

Tommy Seal Smith

Tommy Seal Smith, 61, of Piggott, Arkansas, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, in Piggott.

He was born Aug. 14, 1945 in Rector, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Wayne and Beatrice Dowdy Smith.

He was united in marriage to Terry Hitt on Sept. 14, 1963, and to this union three children were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Beatrice and two brothers, David Lynn Smith and Gerald Smith.

He is survived by his wife Terry Smith of Piggott; two sons: Tim Smith and wife Freda of Dothan, Ala., Tony Smith and wife Sherri of Searcy, Ark.; one daughter, Tory Shirley and husband Jeremy of Paragould; eight granddaughters: Lee Ann Taylor and husband Jonathon, Amanda Smith, Ashley Berrier, Autuam Hager, Kacy Smith, Shayna Beaver, Rachel Smith, Abigail Smith; two brothers: Robert Hawkins and wife Linda of Troy, Mo., and Charles Smith and wife Gloria of Rector; four sisters: Christa Gill and husband Jim of Paragould; Linda Kay Ward and husband Roby of Rector, Gwen Cooper and husband Gary of Jonesboro, and Peggy; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Rodery, Jim Crossfield, Chad Clayton, Ronnie Graddy, Bryan Allman, and Kenny Summers. Visitation was Wednesday. Honorary Pallbearer was Jerry Allman. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Ray Smart

Michael Ray Smart, 42, of Riverview, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, in Florida.

He was born Aug. 4, 1964, in St. Louis, and was the son of Ray "Hub" and Elaine Haywood Smart.

Michael was united in marriage to Sherri DeGuire on Aug. 25, 1990.

He was preceded in death by his father Ray "Hub" Smart and his grandparents, Dan and Thronie Smart and Henry and Izalia Haywood.

He is survived by his wife Sherri Smart of Riverview, Fla.; his mother, Elaine Smart of Piggott; his sister, Teresa Jenkins of Piggott; two nieces: Amanda and Kayla Jenkins; in-laws, Vito and Jeanie Viviano; brother-in-law, Mike DeGuire; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 16, at Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla. Visitation was Friday and Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 20, in Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, with Bro. Kim Bridges and Kevin Murray officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Ross, Neal Galyean, Steve Haywood, John Rodery, David Griffith, and Heath Haywood. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ricky Smart and Mike Patterson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 13600, Tampa, FL 33681 or LifePath Hospice, 3010 West Azeele Street, Tampa, FL 33609.

Wanda Hanna

Wanda Hanna, 77, of Paragould, formerly of Piggott, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, in Paragould.

She was born on April 17, 1929, in Piggott, and was the daughter of the late Lester and Ruby Tabatha (Harwood) Gurley.

She is survived by one daughter, Tabatha Dunlap of Washington, D.C.; two sons: Jimmy Hanna of Plano, Tex. and Derek Gene Hanna of DeRidder, La; three granddaughters: Samantha Chandler of Lonoke, Ark., Sabra Cheyenne Hanna, and Ashtyn McCall Hanna; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Marie Chandler; two sisters: Alice Marietta Glenn of Hot Springs, Ark. and Martha Jane Coomer-Knight of Sherwood, Ark.; step-mother: Edith Gurley of Alma, Ark.; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Nettie Miller Tinsley

Nettie Miller Tinsley, 81, daughter of the late Albert Wesley and Sammie Cathey Miller, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 at the Piggott Community Hospital. She was born Sept. 28, 1925, near Greenway.

She was married to Cleatus Tinsley in 1944. To this union seven children were born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleatus Tinsley; one son, Dale Tinsley; and her only daughter, Vernetta Tinsley Nixon.

She is survived by five sons: Gary Tinsley of Rector, Charles Tinsley of Paragould, Gerald Tinsley of Greenway, Reginald Tinsley of Fairdealing, Mo., and Dennis Tinsley of Hayti, Mo.; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 24, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Boyd Wicker officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway. Pallbearers were Reginald Tinsley, Jeff Nixon, Trevor Tinsley, Stephan Tinsley, Juane Tinsley, Damien Tinsley, Kenny D. Nixon, and Brian Buchanan. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Omer L. Donahue

Omer L. Donahue, 89, of Dexter, Mo., formerly of Piggott, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

He was born Aug. 13, 1917, in Rector, and was the son of the late C.B. and Florence Donahue.

Mr. Donahue was of the Pentecostal faith and a faithful member of Spirit & Truth Worship Center in Bloomfield, Mo.

Mr. Donahue served in the armed forces during WWII and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and numerous other medals and awards during his years of service.

On Nov. 22, 1943, he was married to Elsie Scott of Piggott; she preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 1995.

He lived most of his life in Piggott and was employed by Al Williams & Sons Nursery.

He is survived by their two daughters, Sheila Choate and Kathy Crow both of Dexter; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Rev. Jim Traughber and Rev. Jack Lewis officiating. Burial is in the Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was at Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter and at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott.

Homer Lee Williams

Homer Lee Williams, 82, of Piggott, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, in the St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was the son of the late David Lee and Minnie Rose "Earl" Williams.

He was married on Nov. 17, 1942, to the late Viola May "Harper" in Steele, Mo. He was of the Pentecostal faith and spent his working years as a mechanic/car dealer.

He is survived by seven daughters, Tina Woody of Machesney Park, Ill., Clara Reed of Rockford, Ill., Verna Robbins of Jonesboro, Rozette Short of New Milford, Ill., Phyllis Crawford of Piggott, Darlene Nagy of Steele, and Vicki Shrum of Piggott; one son, Wendell Williams of McDougal; one brother-in-law, Sidney Hunt; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and a very special friend, Ruby Bratcher of Piggott and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Beulah Hunt and Mayloa Utley.

Services were held Jan. 23, in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Shelly Elkins officiating. Pallbearers were Lonnie Burgess, Kevin Blume, Ryan Blume, Steve Anderson, Keven Blume, Jr., and Jimmy Youmans.

Burial followed in the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard.

Arrangements were by Irby Funeral Home in Piggott.

Polly E. Barks

Polly E. Barks, 83, of Piggott, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

She was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Nimmons, and was the daughter of the late Elaine and Evalena Crow Gattis.

She was united in marriage to Norman Owen on June 13, 1939, and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman in 1993.

She was united in marriage to John Barks on April 2, 1996.

She is survived by her husband John Barks of Piggott; daughter, Peggy Redmon of Nimmons; son, Leroy Owen of Nimmons; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Frankie Gattis of Dallas, Tex.; three sisters, Joe Ann Parris of Kennett, Brenda Burress of White Oak, Mo., and Fanny Gattis of Kennett; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Bobby Carter officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway. Pallbearers were Waylon Dunn, Terry Palmer, Brett Palmer, Tommy Redmon, Scott Redmon, and Brian Settlemoir. Honorary pallbearer was Harold Burdin. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

John Robert Brown

John Robert Brown, 78, of Piggott, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Piggott and was the son of the late Carl and Ruby Parker Brown.

He was united in marriage to Kathaleen Morris on May 22, 1953. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Piggott.

He was in the United States Army from 1946 to 1947 serving in Japan. He was a Piggott Volunteer Fireman for twenty-four years, a charter member of the Sugar Creek Country Club, and a member of the VFW American Legion, and NARFE. He worked at the Piggott post office for forty-three years, retiring in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Kathaleen M. Brown of Piggott; brother Leroy Brown of Kennett; sister, Martha Elizabeth Anderson of N.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Vera Mowery; niece, Carol Crawford of Jonesboro; nephews, Joe Mowery of Little Rock, Greg Brown of Tallahassee, Fla., and Scott Brown of Hazelwood, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 28, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Cooper officiating. Pallbearers were Gerald Runyon, Jim Duty, Alan Vaughn, Joe Gregory, Rick Smart, and Gaylon Burkman.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Piggott. Burial will be in the Piggott Cemetery.

Mary Helen Cary

Mary Helen Cary, 77, daughter of the late Willie Lee Mullins and Allie Lee Peacock Mullins, died Jan. 28, 2007. She was born Aug. 9, 1929 in Lepanto.

She is survived by one son, Michael Lynn Cary and wife Renee of Piggott; three grandchildren, Joshua Cary, Felicia Roberts and Emily Morrisett; three great grandchildren, Brooke Roberts, Cody Roberts and Emma Morrisett; one brother, Marvin J. Mullins of Brumley, Mo.; two sister, Iva Jean Junge of Osage Beach, Mo., Wanda Aline Kerley of St. Louis; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.R. Cary, Jr., and one brother, Russell Lee Mullins.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the McDaniel Funeral Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.

Dorothy Graddy

Dorothy Graddy, 84, of Piggott, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. She was born Aug. 15, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Oda Thomas and Ethel Hollis Canfield. She was united in marriage to Hullon Graddy. To this union three children were born. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Piggott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hullon Graddy; two brothers, John and Phonso Canfield; and two sisters, Amy Lou Tyer and Genevieve Canfield.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay Settlemoir and husband Danny of Piggott; two sons, Mike Graddy and wife Paula of Jonesboro, and Mickey Graddy and wife Renaye of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ashlin Spann and husband Aaron, Tammy Rainwater and husband Greg, Kassie Skinner and husband Nate, Melissa Grooms and husband Jeremy, and Chad Long; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Ehrhard of S. C.; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Friday and funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Greg Rainwater and Lee Walton officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Graddy, Ronnie Graddy, Sid Hollis, Elmo Hollis, Tom Sneed, and Bobby Shanklin. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott were in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church in Piggott, 480 West Main Street, Piggott, AR 72454.
