Kenneth E. Spicer
Kenneth E. Spicer, 62, of Lauderdale, Miss., died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, in Meridian, Miss.
He was born on Jan. 23, 1945 in Detroit, Mich., and was the son of the late J. W. "Pete" and Mildred Martin Spicer.
He is survived by his wife Peggy; one son, Kenneth W. Spicer of Cherry Valley, Calif., two daughters: Michelle Spicer of Mentone, Calif., and Sandra Sheely of Union, Miss.; five grandchildren: Nikki Sheely, Amanda Spicer, Breanna Sheely, Josiah Spicer and Samuel Spicer; one brother, Howard Spicer of Piggott; two uncles: Wayne Spicer of Greenway, and Eugene Martin of Rector, one nephew, Neal Spicer of Jonesboro, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Kenneth spent most of his adult life as a truck driver. He retired as a teamster from Yellow Freight with over 28 years of service.
Visitation was held Friday, June 8, at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott and graveside services follwed at Mitchell Cemetery
in Greenway, with Pastor Ken Spicer officiating. Pallbearers were Max Poole, Darrell Dalton, Gayle Garver, Terry McLeskey, Danny Peden, Mack Walters, Sonny Shaw, David A.
Charles Lawrence Cate
Charles Lawrence Cate, 91, of Salem, Oreg., formerly of Boydsville, Ark., died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, June 13, 2007.
Born in Boydsville to Elder T.L. and Nora (Sidebottom) Cate, he married his childhood sweetheart, Hazel Woodard on Aug. 22, 1936, in McDougal. They had 63 wonderful years of marriage and to this union were born four children who survive: Merlene Hancock of Albany, Oreg.; Nelda Borden of Monroe, Oreg.; Jerl Cate of Salem; and Lowell Cate of Graham, Wash. As well as the spouses of each of their children, there are 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
He was a farmer until he and Hazel moved their family to Toledo, Oreg., in February of 1956, where he worked in the wood products industry. In 1962, the family moved to Springfield, Oreg., where he worked for School District 19 until his retirement in 1982. Charles and Hazel moved to Salem, in 1993, where they last resided.
Charles professed faith in Christ and was a faithful member of the New Testament Church where his membership was held. At his death, he was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Salem. Charles is survived by one brother, Ezra Cate, of St. Peters, Mo. He was preceded in death by three sisters including Ethel Jones and two sisters who died in early childhood; as well as five brothers: Roy, Floyd, Claud, Van and their spouses. In 2001 Charles met and later married Wilma Janet Miller; they had a great marriage.
Visitation was Friday, June 15, at the Golden funeral home in Salem. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 16, at the funeral home; Internment followed at the Springfield Memorial Gardens cemetery in Springfield, Oreg.
Goldie Mae Walker
Goldie Mae Walker, 98, died Thursday, June 14, 2007, at her daughter's home in Piggott.
She was born April 21, 1909, in Hornersville, Mo., and was the daughter of the late Jake and Alice Weeks.
She was married to Charlie Walker on Nov. 24, 1924, and to this union four children were born. In June 2000, after being married for seventy-six years, her husband Charlie preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Goldie is fondly remembered for her long years of service at the original Piggott Hospital and by the Hitts Chapel congregation where she, Charlie, and their children attended since the church beginning. Goldie and Charlie's musical family performed at local picnics and for many years she was requested to sing solos at various churches.
She is survived by one son, Roy Walker of Franklin, Tenn.; three daughters: Nella Mae Malone of Poplar Bluff, Daronda Blevins of Piggott, and Ayleen Smith of Arnold, Mo.; ten grandchildren: Sondra McKee and husband Ronnie, Melody Snodgrass and husband David, Kim Plunk and husband Otis, Cameron Walker and wife Marilee, Steve Smith and wife Judy, Cheryl Smith Hemme, Mark Smith, Anna Kinnard and husband Jamey, Elisabeth Howard and husband George, and John Blevins; eleven great-grandchildren: Peyton and Matthew Snodgrass, Isabella Walker, David and wife Kim McKee, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Stephen G. Smith, Sarah and Jared Hemme, and Charlie and Abbie Smith; two great-great-grandchildren: Abigail and Ethan McKee; and a host of other friends and relatives including her favorite physician, Dr. Hillard Duckworth.
Visitation was Sunday, June 17, with funeral services following on Monday, June 18, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Charles Richardson officiating. Burial is in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Blevins, Roy Walker, Rex Smart, Jerry Causey, Gary McKenney and Roger McKenney. Honorary pallbearers were Jamey Kinnard and George Howard. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
Martha Jane Leggett
Martha Jane Leggett, 82, died on June 24, 2007 in Memphis. Born June 4, 1925 in Piggott, she was the daughter of Eric A. and Ruth A. Parrish. She was a former resident of Piggott and Las Vegas, Nev.
Survivors include a son, Thomas P. Leggett of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Meredith Rogowski and her husband, Christopher, of Evanston, Ill., Thomas J. Leggett and his wife, Michelle, of New Orleans, Susan Leggett of Little Rock, and Helen Ruth Leggett of Dallas; one great-grandchild, Ashlyn Rogowski; and a sister, Gerry Zieske of Seattle, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Leggett, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, at Memorial Park in Memphis. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Methodist Hospice, 6423 Shelby View Dr., Memphis, TN 38134, or a charity of your choice.
Eric William Jones
Eric William Jones, 89, a life long resident of Piggott died Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell. He was born Nov. 21, 1917, the son of A.N. and Ethel "Williams" Jones.
Eric was a member of the Thornton Street Church Of Christ, worked 28 years as a warehouse manager for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, was an employee of Irby Funeral Home for years, was a member of the VFW and he was a World War II Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Collier and Beth Morgan and one brother Earl Jones.
He is survived of his wife Lona "Nettles" Jones of the home, two daughters, Carolyn Griffith and husband Bob and Marilyn Nichols and husband Gary, both of Piggott; one brother-in-law Wayne Collier; four grandchildren, Scott Griffith of Jonesboro, La., Kelly George of Arlington, Tex., Erica Harris of Piggott and Rob Nichols of Dexter, Mo.; six great grandchildren, Kaysee, Shelby, Nicholas, Cooper, Cole and Kate, and many other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation was Sunday, June 17, at the Irby home chapel in Piggott.
Funeral services were Monday, June 18, at the Irby chapel with brothers Bob Mcdoniel and Kevin Murray officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Scott Griffith, Rob Nichols, Wade Harris, Neil Morgan, Kenny Collier, and Bart Benson. Honorary pallbearers were: Ronnie Graddy, Sam Williams, Bill Irby, Jr., Gary Dehls, Wayne Collier and Bill Girtman.
Arrangements were by Irby funeral home of Piggott.
George Harrison Skidmore
George Harrison Skidmore, 83, of Piggott died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007 at his home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Clay County, the son of the late Milo Jefferson and Minnie Pearl "George" Skidmore. He was married to Cora May Green on Aug. 30, 1964.
Harrison worked for 21 years at Federal Mogul in Malden, and was a farmer until his health would no longer permit. Over the years he and his wife were foster parents to 20 children. He was baptized Aug. 21, 1955, by Bro. Davey T. Winberry and was a faithful member of the Gravel Hill Church until he became unable to attend services. One of his most enjoyable accomplishments was being church choir director for 40 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Arvin Skidmore.
He is survived by his wife Cora May; two sisters-in-law, Laurene Nichols Skidmore of Beebe and Hester Stone of Malden; two nieces, Myra Cobb and husband Jim of Rolla, Mo., and Teresa Ann Skidmore of Maumelle; two great-nephews, Jim Ed Cobb and wife Sherri and Jason Cobb and wife Cherie Beth. He will also be greatly missed by special friends Tom and Jane Berry, and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the chapel of the Irby Funeral Home in Piggott with Bro. Ted Winberry officiating. Burial was in the Gravel Hill Cemetery
at St. Francis. Active pallbearers were Danny Ray Stone, Travis Stone, Phillip Kinnard, Vernell Bradshaw, Ronnie Graddy, Otis Book and Davey T. Winberry. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Hillard Duckworth, Sandra Blascoe, Shelly Reagan, Pam Barker, Mia Boren and Paula Gargus.

Cody Franklin Olds
Cody Franklin Olds, 25, of Piggott, passed away Friday, December 14, 2007.
Cody was born October 11, 1982, in Paragould, to Terry and Joe Ann Hitt Olds.
He leaves behind his parents, Terry and Joe Ann Olds; two sisters, Jennifer Lowrie and Tara O'Neal; one son, Brody Franklin Olds; his maternal grandmother Geneva Gray; his paternal grandparents, Clifford and Mary Beth Olds; three nieces, Jillian Parker and Carson and Kadence O'Neal; two nephews, Tristan and Tallan Lowrie; two aunts, Terry Smith and Angie Ellis; and one brother-in-law, Brandon O'Neal.
Growing up, Cody lived to play baseball and football, winning many trophies both local and district. He was always kindhearted and willing to help those less fortunate than him. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing. Cody was a quiet man that loved his family.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 15 at Gravel Hill Cemetery
in St. Francis. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Charles Moore Williams
Charles Moore Williams passed away suddenly at his home in Texas on December 5, 2007. He was born in Madison County, Tenn. on March 16, 1943, the eldest son of Hazel and Emmett Williams.
He attended schools in Madison County and graduated from Lambuth College and Southeast Missouri State University.
His teaching career spanned 37 years, starting with schools in Missouri and ending with Royal Middle School where he taught 6th grade world history .
He is survived by his wife Sue Williams; his mother Hazel Williams; sons Charles M. Jr., and Thomas J.Williams; daughter Ouida Williams; grandson LoganWilliams; and brother Mark Williams and his wife Charlotte of Flowery Branch, Ga., along with two nieces, four nephews and several cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his father Emmett Williams in 1984 and his brother Emmett Williams Jr. in 2005.
Funeral Services were held at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 8, with Father David DuBois presiding. Burial followed in the Pattison Cemetery
in Pattison.
Wallace Vernon Bain
Wallace Vernon Bain, 74, of Marble Hill, Mo., died Monday, June 9, 2008, at his home. He was born March 20, 1934, at Pollard to Commodore Chalon and Fannie (Stallings) Bain. He married Maila Seppala in December of 1960 and the couple had four children.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997, by his parents, two brothers, one sister and a granddaughter.
He is survived by his children, Art Bain of Silverlake, Wisc., Debra Testement of Palmyra, Tenn., Carol Ruiz of Marble Hill and Jim Bain of Fox Lake, Ill., and his brother, Dale Bain of California.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a printer for over 30 years with Brookshore Lithographic.
Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, July 5, at the New Hope Cemetery
at Pollard. Hutchings Funeral Home of Marble Hill is in charge of arrangements.
W. Allen Cheesman
W. Allen Cheesman, 46, of White Hall died Monday, June 23, 2008.
He was born Oct. 4, 1961, in Pine Bluff to Sam and Phyllis Cheesman. He grew up in Pine Bluff, attending Trinity Episcopal School and graduating from Jefferson Preparatory School in 1980 and from Hendrix College in 1984. He also attended graduate school at North Texas State University. After college he worked and lived in Arkansas and later Texas, returning to Pine Bluff in June of 2000.
On May 25, 1991, he was married to Susan South, a native of Piggott, and the couple had three children, William Allen, Michelle Rae and Melanie Ruth.
He is survived by his wife and children; his father, Dr. Sam Cheesman; his sisters, Bea Cheesman of Pine Bluff and Cara Barrentine of Gainesville, Ga.; four nephews, and brother-in-law Jeff Barrentine. He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.
He was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry, the parish life committee, the men's club and in numerous other capacities.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, at the Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Cheryl Clark officiating. The family suggests that memorials be made to the building fund of the Grace Episcopal Church, 4101 South Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, AR 71603; to ARORA, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Norma Jean (Harrell) Crews
Norma Jean (Harrell) Crews, 74, of West Helena, formerly of Piggott, died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the Helena Regional Medical Hospital in Helena.
She was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Piggott, and was the daughter of the late Walter and Thelma (Crittenden) Harrell.
She was married to Dencial E. Crews on Nov. 9, 1951, and the couple had three children.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Survivors include her three children, Denny Michael Crews of Louisville, Ky., Sherry Gunn and husband Charles of West Helena and Lisa Wilkinson and husband Roger of Rowlett, Texas; three brothers, William (Bill) Harrell and wife Beth of Las Cruces, N.M., Howard Harrell and wife Shirley of San Antonio, Texas, and Rex Harrell and wife Judy of Henderson, Nev.; two sisters, Mary Howell and husband Jim of Greenfield, Ind., and Roma Potts and husband Ray of Bartlett, Tenn.
She was blessed with three grandchildren, Rachel Haedge, Jamie Gunn and Eric Wilkinson, and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Carson Haedge.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 2, at the Piggott Cemetery
with Charles Gunn officiating. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was charged with the arrangements.
