Alma J. Dobbs

Alma J. Dobbs, 76, of McKey, Okla., formerly of Rector, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Sallisaw, Okla. She was born June 12, 1932, in Campbell, Mo., to Ralph Irby and Ninnie Jewel Bateman Irby. She was married to Orville Harold Dobbs Oct. 30, 1953, in Pontiac, Mich. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1992. She also was preceded in death by her father.

She was a graduate of Rector High School and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Sallisaw. She was active in 4-H and her church and was a former Volunteer of the Year recipient. She also played the organ and piano at church, and served as church secretary at Immanuel Baptist. During her working years she was a telephone operator and bookkeeper.

She is survived by her mother; two children, son Steve and wife Jo Alice Dobbs and daughter Lisa and husband Kyle Holt, all of McKey; five grandchildren, Adyson, Adam and Ali Holt and Ashlyn and Mason Dobbs; one brother, Devaun Irby and wife Dorothy of St. Louis; one nephew, Gary Irby; one niece, Gail DiSilvester; two great-nieces, Laura and Sarah, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 1, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw with Rev. Shawn Caldwell, Wymon Dobbs, Steve Dobbs, Keith Dobbs and Jo Alice Dobbs officiating. Burial was in the Sallisaw City Cemetery. Pallbearers were her nephews, and honorary pallbearers were the members of the Mary Martha Sunday School class at the Immanuel Baptist Church of Sallisaw.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the church or to the American Cancer Society.

Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw was in charge of the arrangements.

Frank E. Woolf Jr.

Frank E. Woolf Jr., 78, of Lincoln Park, Mich., formerly of Piggott, died Monday, July 14, 2008 in Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Charles Woolf, and a sister, Virginia Searles. He is survived by his wife Esther; son Chuck and wife Deb, son David and wife Patty and sons Brian and Greg; grandchildren Chris and wife Kristin, Brandon and wife Ally and Crystal; great-grandchildren Jessica, Jayson and Elizabeth; and dear friend and former co-worker Rual Coomer.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at the R.C. Aleks and Son Funeral Home in Lincoln Park, Mich.

Frieda Young Schlueter

Frieda Young Schlueter, 69, of Corning died Tuesday, July 18, 2008, at Paragould. She was born in Corning, Nov. 17, 1938, the daughter of Frederick H. and Pansy (Purvis) Poynor. A homemaker, her hobbies were reading and watching television.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Kellen Allison; brothers, Albert, Ralph and Harold Poynor; sisters Mary Cantwell and Wilma Debord.

She is survived by her two sons, Jim Young of Jonesboro and Ray Young of Reeds Spring, Mo.; two daughters, Vicki Allison of Fenton, Mo., and Kristi Poe of Paragould; a brother, Bob Poynor of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Alma Bland of Paragould and Nita Mahan of Rockford, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces and eight nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10, in the chapel of Ermert Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Bearden officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery at Boydsville under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home of Corning.

Ruth Girtman

Ruth Girtman, 80, of Greenway died Monday, July 7, 2008, at the Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Piggott.

She was born March 30, 1928, at Greenway, the daughter of the late Edd and Hettie (Haywood) Simpson. She was a member of the General Baptist Church at Greenway, and worked for many years at Brown Shoe Company in Piggot.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Carroll Simpson, Hulon Simpson, Vernon Simpson and Emil Simpson; three sisters, Bessie Simpson Hollis, Nadine Simpson and Blanche Simpson.

She will be truly missed by family and friends, and is survived by her son, Carl Edward Lovelady and wife Elaine of Greenway; a brother, Doyne Simpson and wife Lorene of Rector; two grandchildren, Scott Lovelady and wife Debra of Newark and Brandi Scarborough and husband Kevin of Paragould; along with two great-grandchildren, Anna and Mason Scarborough.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Boyd Wicker and George Haygood officiating. Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway. Pallbearers were Russell Fish, Jim Gearhart, Robert Naes, Donald Simpson, Larry Simpson and Neil Cluck. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Rogers, Curtis Simpson, Jimmy Simpson and Don Poole.

The arrangements were handled by Irby Funeral Home of Piggott.

Bobby Griffith

Bobby Griffith, 67, of Piggott, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. He was born Oct. 23, 1940, the son of the late Othel Ray and Empress Helen Blocker Griffith.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Carol Griffith, and grandparents, Fred and May Griffith and Ben and Lilla Blocker.

He was united in marriage to Carolyn Kay Jones on March 19, 1963, and the couple had two children.

He served in the United States Navy from 1960 until he retired in 1979 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement from the Navy he worked as an auto mechanic for many years in Russellville, Ark. In 1997 he returned to Piggott and had recently worked at Auto Zone in Kennett.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Griffith of Piggott; a son, Byron Scott Griffith of Jonesboro, La.; a daughter, Kelly Larae George of Arlington, Texas; was the very proud pap-pa of two granddaughters, Kaysee Rae Griffith and Shelby Taylor Griffith; a brother, Terry Q. Griffith and wife Connie, of South Bend, Ind.; three sisters, Sherley Scholler and husband Gene of Gonzales. La., Karen Sue Perkins and husband Lee, of Lake Charles La., and Belinda Griffith and husband Doug of South Bend, Ind.; mother-in-law, Lona Jones of Piggott; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Marilyn Nichols of Piggott, and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Monday, July 7, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Michael Cox officiating. Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Nichols, Wade Harris, Rob Nichols, Brent Coomer, Terry Griffith and Danny Price. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Girtman, Ronny Graddy, Bob Johnson, Sam Williams, Bob Gower and Wayne Collier.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the ALS Association for fighting Lou Gehrig's disease at 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, Calif., 91301, or online at www.alsa.org.

Juanita Sutton

Juanita Sutton, 82, of Piggott died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at the Piggott Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Dunklin County, Mo., to the late John A. Lawson and Eula Mae "Hulen" Lawson. She was married Jan. 15, 1945, to the late Owen Sutton and the couple had three children, Keith Sutton and wife Sue of Pekin, Ill., Terry Sutton and wife Sandi of Baltimore, and Sharon Pendergrast and husband Dale of Piggott.

She was of the Baptist faith and was employed in the medical field all her working years serving as both a nurse's aid and physical therapist in doctors' offices. She was also active in the Relay For Life and served on the bereavement committee at her church.

Juanita is survived by her three children; six grandchildren, Terri Smalley and boyfriend Eldon Atwell, Andrea Redell and husband George, Stephanie Sutton, twins

Brian and Jeff Sutton, Jeff's fiancee Tetania, and Shane Sutton; great-grandchildren, Jospeh Owen Moore, Evelyn Redell and Alex Redell; sisters, Edith Cook of Memphis, Mary Pinkston of Wappapello; step-sisters, Hester Mungle and Betty Carter of Stockton, Calif., along with a host of other loving relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Arnold, and step-brother, Calvin Carter.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 2, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Charles Carrens officiating. Burial was in Memorial Gardens at Kennett. Pallbearers were Tommy Hardcastle, Bill Veal, Bob Shanklin, Harold Millikin, Dub Cook, Travis Boyd and Harold Gill.

Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was charged with the arrangements.

Jason Lynn Rhein

Jason Lynn Rhein, 30, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Jonesboro, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, in Ohio.

He was employed at CFS Chemicals in Columbus, was a Navy veteran and a 1996 graduate of Valley View High School.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Sue Kriner; grandparents, James and Faye McNeely and Paul Rhein, and an uncle, David Rhein.

He is survived by his sister, Jeri Seabaugh and husband Matt; niece Annelise Seabaugh; his father, Jerry Rhein; stepfather, David Kriner; aunts and uncles, Don and Debby McNeely, Bob and Carol Rhein, Paula Funderburk, John and Brenda Rhein, Richard and Rhonda Rhein, Michael Rhein and Janette Rhein, along with many cousins, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held Friday, June 27, at the Valley View School at Jonesboro with Pastor Doug Welborn officiating. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Valley View School Library in care of the Valley View Schools.

Mildred Rhea Duke

Mildred Rhea Duke, 86, of Piggott, died Saturday, July 19, 2008, in the St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Franklin, Ark., the daughter of the late Victor Green Redman and Mae Rose Royles.

She was united in marriage to Roy Thompson on May 13, 1939, at Piggott, and the couple had two children, Roy Thompson Jr. and Julia Jean Thompson Parks.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Thompson, and second husband, Onas Duke; her son, Roy Thompson Jr.; brothers, J.D., Trumann, Billy, Stanley, Franklin and Randel Redman and a sister, Wanda Kilgore.

She is survived by a daughter, Julia Jean Parks and husband Jerry of Jonesboro; a grandson, Shawn Parks of St. Augustine, Fla.; granddaughter, Lisa Parks of Jonesboro; sisters, Kathy Brown of St. Louis and Christine Langston of Bakersfield, Calif., and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, July 21, at the Piggott Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of the arrangements.

O. Louise Harmon

O. Louise Harmon, 71, of Kennett, died Friday, July 18, 2008, in Kennett.

She was born Sept. 21, 1936, in Piggott, and was the youngest daughter of Riley and Lottie Parton Book. On May 5, 1955, she married her late husband Aldon O. "Sonny" Harmon, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Simpson, Ethel Hampton, Margie Jones, Virgie Binkley; a brother, John Book; sister-in-law, Phyllis Book; and brother-in-law, A.B. Pridmore.

Survivors include five children, Lynette Simpson and husband Jim of Henderson, Nev., Sheila Sugden and husband Kris of Columbia, Tenn., Penny Keating of Durand, Mich., Aldon O. Harmon Jr. of Kennett and Hope Durk and husband Jacob of Kennett; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Doilis Book and wife Mary Faye, Ray Book and wife Loretta, and J.B. Book; a sister, Lottie Faye Pridmore, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, in Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Joe Payne officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway. Pallbearers will be Lee Pruitt, Brad Keating, Aldon O. Harmon III, Brian Keating, Ezra Harmon, Harley Durk and Cody Sugden. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott has been charged with the arrangements.

James Everett Van Gordon

James Everett Van Gordon, 70, of Piggott died Friday, July 18, 2008, at the Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Piggott.

He was born June 19, 1938, at Crockett, the son of the late Clyde and Miriam "Sherrill" Van Gordon. He was of the Methodist faith, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a master electrician by trade. Prior to his illness, he was employed at Aerial Bouquets in Piggott.

He was married to JoAnn Copeland on Sept. 9, 1961, in Tilden, Ill., and the couple had two daughters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Curtis Van Gordon.

He will be truly missed, and is survived by his wife, JoAnn Van Gordon; two daughters, Judith Ann Murphy and husband Lee of Festus, Mo., and Barbara Jo Chappell and husband Ren of Corning; a brother, Thomas Leslie Van Gordon and wife Barbara of Holly, Mich.; five sisters, Mina Lou Tucker of St. Charles, Mo., Cathy Gott and husband Jack of McDougal, Linda Prince and husband Fred of Clinton, Ark., Barbara Dodd and husband Jerry of Lafe and Una V. Ervin and husband Glen of Corning; two grandchildren, Deta and Christian Chappell, and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services were held Monday, July 21, at Mars Hill Cemetery at Crockett with Brother John Sandise officiating. Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was charged with the arrangements.

Bobby Joe Broadway

Bobby Joe Broadway, 72, of Austell, Ga., formerly of the Piggott area, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in Well Star Cobb Hospital in Austell, Ga.

He was born Sept. 27, 1931, in Nimmons, the son of the late James Henry and Laura Elizabeth Howell Broadway.

He was united in marriage to Betty Simmons on March 20, 1954, to this union two children were born.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Broadway; and one sister, Helen Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Broadway of Austell, Ga.; one son, Craig Broadway of Austell, Ga.; one daughter, Cathy Broadway and Lewis Wynn of Powder Spring, Ga.; one grandson, Cameron Lewis Wynn; one brother, Royal "Toots" Broadway of Piggott; six sisters, Joyce Murphy of Puxico, Mo., Donna Clifton of Wappappello, Mo., Joan Russell of Pontiac, Mich., Marilyn Stokes, Audrey Stidham and Betty Ann Broadway, all of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Ricky Broadway and Mark Book officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tim Risinger, Tony Risinger, Tommy Risinger, Michael Hankins, Lewis Wynn and Tim Broadway.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
