Dorothy Elaine McGehee Meade

Dorothy Elaine McGehee Meade, 78, of Piggott died Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at her home in Piggott.

She was born June 12, 1926, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Andrew and Edith Maddox McGehee.

She was united in marriage to Carl E. Meade on June 17, 1944. They had seven children.

She was preceded in death by two sons, James and Leon Meade; five sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her husband, Carl E. Meade of Piggott; one son, Jerome Meade of Piggott; four daughters, Betty Robinson of Nimmons, Dyrma Sanders of Farmington, Mo., Geraldine Crawford of Piggott and Fleta Mooney of Searcy, Ark.; four grandsons, John Cavaness, Donnie Cavaness, Jimmy Sanders and Brandon Mooney; five granddaughters, Mistie Gossett, Dorothy Sanders, Elizabeth Crawford, Christen Robinson and Cyndel Mooney; three great-grandsons, Jordan Dye, Trey Gossett and Jessie Sanders; and one great-granddaughter, Elise Gossett; one brother, Clifford McGehee of St. Charles, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Willie Sandlin and Matt Foster officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were John Cavaness, Donnie Cavaness, Jimmy Sanders, Daniel Gossett, Carlos Crittenden and Jerry Meade. Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Mooney, Jordan Dye, Trey Gossett and Jessie Sanders.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Meade to St. Bernard's Hospice, 2813 Forest Home Road, Jonesboro, AR 72401.

Virginia Mae Riley

Virginia Mae Riley, 75, of Royal Oak, Mich., died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Bortz Health Care in Warren, Mich.

She was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Pontiac, Mich., the daughter of the late Austin and Belle Brady.

She was united in marriage to Russell Riley in Ferndale, Mich., on June 16, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1991.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Gail, in 1978.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Riley of Royal Oak, Mich., Cathy Smith of Hazel Park, Mich., Dennis (Shirley) Riley of Roseville, Mich., and Cindy (Jeff) Scafone of Clarkston, Mich.; one brother, Gerald (Louise) Brady of Heber Springs; and seven grandchildren, Lisa, Erin, Paul, Emily, Matthew, Erica and Todd.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Kinsey-Garrett Funeral Home in Royal Oak. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, with Rev. Thomas Krell officiating. Burial followed in Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak. Pallbearers were Mrs. Riley's grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart and Stroke Association.

Eula Belle Nickels

Eula Belle Nickels, 86, of Bridgeton, Mo., formerly of Corning, died Nov. 1, 2004, at St. Johns Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Mrs. Nickels was born on Jan. 29, 1918, in McDougal, the daughter of the late Oliver Hamilton Mitchell and Susie Alice Nicholson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Mitchell and Cecil Mitchell; and one sister, Vivle French.

Survivors include one son, Roy Gene Nickels of Warrenton, Mo.; one daughter, Loretta J. Govro of Bridgeton, Mo.; one brother, Everett Mitchell of St. Louis; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Stan Little officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery at Pollard.

Irby Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Lucille Crews

Mary Lucille Crews, 89, of Sikeston died Nov. 3, 2004, at the Puxico Nursing and Rehab Center in Puxico, Mo.

She was born on Sept. 4, 1915, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Wiley Price and Iva Templeton Thomas.

She was a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had been a teacher's aide and co-owner of Crews-Welsh Funeral Home in Sikeston before retiring.

She married George Raymond Crews on Sept. 28, 1933; he preceded her in death on March 28, 1999.

In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Thomas and Ray Thomas; and one sister, Myrtle Lowery.

She is survived by two sons, George W. Crews of Memphis and Gene R. Crews of Perth, Western Australia; two daughters, Mona Rhea Foster of Puxico and Mary Christine Kane of Sarasota, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston with Rev. Harold Norton officiating. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the Piggott Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandchildren, Andy Foster, Tim Jarvis, Scott Jarvis, Ben Conners, Josh Delay, Clay Knych and Hunter Deen.

The family ask that any memorial donations be made to: School of the Ozarks, P.O. Box 17, Point Lookout, MO, 65726.

Cloyd Roscoe Arnold Sr.

Cloyd Roscoe Arnold Sr., 78, of Lafe, died Nov. 2, 2004, at his home.

He was born on April 6, 1926, in Clay County, Ark., the son of the late Bascom Bedford Arnold and Nellie Mae Wilder.

He was a veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bryan and Raymond Arnold.

He is survived by one son, Cloyd Roscoe Arnold Jr. of Paragould; six daughters, Patsy Kosmach of Newport, Janice Coffell of Rector, Sandra Morgan of Paragould, Diane Spurlock of Paragould, Claudette Arnold of Longview, Texas, and Patricia Vidrene of Elk City, Okla.; three sisters, Thelma Rapert of Peach Orchard, Peggy Lawrence of Paragould and Audrey Cameron of Walnut Ridge; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and a beloved companion, Imogene Mann.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at Hosea Cemetery at Knobel with Jerry Arnold officiating.

Irby Funeral Home in Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary L. Koslovsky

Mary L. Koslovsky (nee Hoover) of Toledo, Ohio, died at the Comfort Cave Unit of Lake Park on Nov. 11, 2004, at age 89. She had been ill for several months.

She was born on Aug. 10, 1915, in St. Francis, the daughter of Lewis C. and Estella (Stella) Mae Liddell Hoover.

Mrs. Koslovsky, called "Dutch" by her family, was educated in the local schools in St. Francis. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1932, after graduation she attended St. Luke's Hospital Nursing School in St. Louis. She attained her Registered Nurse's license in 1936 and continued working in St. Louis until she took a job in 1931 as a plant nurse in Clearing, Ill., where she met her future husband who was working there on special assignment.

She was united in marriage to Thomas G. Koslovsky on April 15, 1940, at St. Edmund's Church in Oak Park, Ill.

While raising her family, she returned to nursing and worked in private opthamology practices in New Jersey and Ohio. She later worked at St. Vincent's Eye Clinic. She retired in 1984.

In her mid-fifties, she returned to college earning an A.A. degree from Lourdes College and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English at age 64 from the University of Toledo in 1980. She continued graduate work in English at the University of Toledo.

Mrs. Koslovsky was a volunteer with the Red Cross, Lake Park/Flower Hospital, the Alzheimer's Foundation, Meadowvale Elementary School and Washington Local.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Koslovsky in 1993; her father, Lewis C. Hoover in 1957; her mother, Estella Mae Hoover in 1955; and her brother, Ray Hoover of Little Rock in 1977.

She is survived by four children, Thomas of Huntington, N.Y., James of Toledo, Mary of Toledo and Steven of St. Louis. In addition to her children, survivors include a daughter-in-law, Sue Koslovsky; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Marc, John and Paul of N.Y., Curt, Craig, Jennifer and Kimberly of Ohio, and David and Daniel of St. Louis; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Anna and Mason of Ohio; and three nieces, Sarah Lee McGraw of Little Rock, Annette Hoffman of Little Rock and Elena Whiting of Florida.

The Mass of the Resurrection was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Little Flower Catholic Church on Dorr Street. Interment followed at Resurrection Cemetery alongside her husband.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of the donor's choice.

Earl C. "Ted" Crowson

Earl C. "Ted" Crowson, 85, of Piggott died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born on Nov. 27, 1918, in Greenway, the son of the late C.C. Crowson and Della Davis Crowson.

He was married to Lorene Carpenter on April 10, 1937. She preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 1999, after 62 years of marriage. He was married to Kathy Morris on April 7, 2004.

In addition to his wife, Lorene, and his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annette Crowson Haywood and Lorelle Crowson Whiteside and three brothers, James V. Crowson, L.M. Crowson and E.M. Crowson.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Jimmie D. Crowson and wife, Joan, of Kennett; daughter, Debbie J. Crowson of Piggott; five grandchildren, Carol Gore, Mia Cooper, Deeanne Costephens, Stacey Harris and Amanda Hinze; two step-children, Kade Brenna and Clint Morris; 17 great-grandchildren and one beloved brother, William C. Crowson of Dyersburg, Tenn.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Irby Funeral Home in Piggott with Brother Kevin Murray officiating. Burial was held at Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway.

Pallbearers were Trent Holcomb, Gaylon Coomer, Brent Coomer, Blaine Cooper, Tony Gore and Bill Veal.

Irby Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Russell York

Donald Russell York, 40, of Campbell died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis.

He was born April 7, 1964, in Malden, the son of William Lee and Lucille Eva Edmonston York.

He was united in marriage to Monique Hill on July 20, 2004, in Malden.

Mr. York worked as an auto detailer. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Lee York; and one brother, David York.

Survivors include his wife, Monique York of Campbell; three sons, Anthony Travis Russell York of Pangburn, Ark., Joseph Lerma of Campbell and Jered Lerma of Campbell; one daughter, Brittany Fithian of Michigan; his mother, Lucille York of Campbell; three brothers, William Larry York and wife, Helen, of Bernie, Curtis Wayne York and wife, Linda, of Campbell and Arthur York of Campbell; four sisters, Judy Martin and husband, Larry, of Piggott, Karen Ligons of Campbell, Phyllis Cannon and husband, Mark, of Senath and Roma Barnes and husband, Charlie, of Little Rock; and numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery - Landess Addition in Campbell.

Landess Funeral Home, Inc., of Campbell was in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Perry Thrasher

Donald Perry Thrasher, 67, of Piggott died Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at his home.

He was born July 17, 1937, in Campbell, the son of the late Ambress and Myra Duncan Thrasher. He was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Thrasher.

He is survived by four children, Barbara Summer of St. Francis, Donna Mikel of Campbell, Tina Dalton of Poplar Bluff and Donald Lee Thrasher of Piggott; 11 grandchildren, Bill Peterson Jr. of Malden, Belinda Bryant of Jonesboro, Bruce Peterson of St. Francis, Sandra R. Haldeman of Greenville, Mo., Norman D. Mikel Sr. of Campbell, Amy Everett of Campbell, Donna Fair of Piggott, Johnathon Thrasher of Qulin, David Perkin of Poplar Bluff, Paul Dalton of Poplar Bluff and Matthew Dalton of Poplar Bluff; nine great-grandchildren, Sydni Peterson of Malden, Maci Peterson of Malden, Lauren Bryant of Jonesboro, Lydia Bryant of Jonesboro, Alyssa Everett of Campbell, Charlie Everett of Campbell, Christopher Everett of Campbell and Austin Fair of Piggott; three sisters, Joyce Todd of Campbell, Loretta Carter of Risco, Mo., and Glenda Spicer of Piggott; one brother, Ambress Thrasher Jr. of Arlington, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
