William Arthanel Brandon

William Arthanel Brandon, 87, of Piggott, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at his home in Piggott.

He was born March 30, 1919, in Leachville, Ark., the son of the late Sylvester and Eva Davis Brandon.

He was united in marriage to Lola Thomas on April 4, 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Lola Brandon of Piggott; one daughter, Carolyn Morrisett of Pollard; two sons, Bill Brandon of Riverside, Calif. and Gerald Brandon of Cabot; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; four step children; Dillon Russell of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Rex Russell of Piggott; Delilah Thomas and Tommy Russell; five brothers; Norman Brandon, Leon Brandon, Roland Brandon, Floyd Brandon and Gene Brandon; three sisters; Shirley Taylor, Joyce Bost, and Wynetta Dean; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Monday, March 12, with funeral services on Tuesday, March 13, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Bill Newman and Donald Foster officiating. Burial is in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis. Pallbearers were Tommy Russell, Marvin Gilbee, A.J. Hasting, Anthony Selby Daniel Hobson, and Bill Street. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott were in charge of the arrangements.

Philip Benjamin Bridgeman

Philip Benjamin Bridgeman, 76, of Piggott, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was a Southern Baptist, a twenty-two year Air Force Veteran, a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Bridgeman bought a pecan orchard before entering into the military in 1951 with plans to operate the business when he ended his time in service. He owned and operated the orchard until 2004 when he sold the business and moved to town. During the thirteen years after he retired from the military and the orchard began to produce, he worked for Emerson Electric in Kennett.

He was married to Mary Lou "Norton" June 21, 1963.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of the home, three daughters, Karen McMahon and husband Bobby of Kennett, Phyllis Tanner, Janette Dunlap and husband Randy, all of Piggott; six grandchildren, Courtney McMahon, Keegan Dunlap, Brantley Dunlap, Mary Dunlap, Clay Tanner and Cole Tanner; and many other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Iva "Biggs" Bridgeman; two brothers, L.J. Bridgeman and Paul Bridgeman.

Funeral services were Wednesday, March 21, at the Irby Funeral Home in Piggott with Bro. Kevin Murray officiating. Interment followed in the Piggott Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Roger Morris, Brock Swann, Kent Coomer, Joel Coomer, Kevin Jones, and Brad Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers were Dustin Patterson, George Norton, Pete Norton, Matt Sutfin, and Gary Blaylock.

All arrangements were by Irby Funeral Home in Piggott.

Leonard Steward

Leonard Steward, 47, of Piggott, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at his home.

He was born Dec. 23, 1959, in Aurora, Ill., and was the son of Winard and Gearldean Tankersley Steward.

He was married to Mary Collins on Jan. 5, 1999.

He was preceded in death by his father, Winard and one brother, Rickie.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, two daughters Kaela and Leanna Steward all of Piggott; one son, Willie Early of Plano, Ill.; mother, Gearldine Steward of Piggott; one sister Linda Hall and husband, Danny of Joliet, Ill.; two nieces, Tabby and Katie of Joliet, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Sunday and funeral services were held Monday, March 19, at the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Loy Culver officiating. Burial will be in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Randy Steward, Andrew Steward, Curtis Steward, Thomas Bledsoe, Kenneth Bledsoe, Jamie Whorton, Gary Edwards, and Mike Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were Allan Edwards and Harold Tankersley. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Lewis A. Toombs

Lewis A. Toombs, 98, of Piggott, died Monday, March 19, 2007, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born May 24, 1908, in Pollard, and was the son of the late W.O. and Diana Melton Toombs.

Lewis was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church since 1929.

He was married to Nell Keas on Sept. 26, 1928, and to this union three children were born.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Toombs; three sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by three children, Jerry Toombs of Piggott, J.W. Toombs of Pollard, and June Morris and husband Gerald of Piggott; one granddaughter, Kathy Ballard and husband David of Piggott; three step-grandchildren, Ed Morris, Alan Morris, and Roger Morris all of Piggott; one great-grandson, Kyle Phillips; eleven step great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Tuesday and funeral services were held Wednesday, March 21, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Loy Culver and Charles Carrens officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers were Jerry Grider, Luke Palmer, Don McNeely, Rick Rodery, Rusty Ort, and Kyle Phillips. Honorary pallbearers were Glen Yount, John Brawner, Slim Brady, and Charley Champ. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott were in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Juanita Litzelfelner

Helen Juanita Litzelfelner, age 87, of Bald Knob, died unexpectedly on March 16, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Litzelfelner was born in Bald Knob, Ark., on Jan. 6, 1920, the daughter of Thomas Watt and Helen Francis Leggett.

A graduate of Piggott High School, she attended both Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where she received her bachelor's degree in music.

She began a career in banking at an early age, working at Piggott State Bank in Piggott. She also served as church organist at First Baptist Church in Piggott for over 15 years.

After the death of her father, she moved back to the town of her birth to continue her career at Citizens State Bank as Chairman of the Board, where she worked for 36 years. Mrs. Litzelfelner was a past member of the Baptist Health Corporate Board in Little Rock. She continued her service as an advisory member of the Baptist Health Foundation Board. Her love of and talent for music was demonstrated through her long-time involvement with the Searcy Beethoven Club. Mrs. Litzelfelner was a member of the Bald Knob Rotary Club and a board member of the Bald Knob Public Education Foundation. She was also a member of Central Baptist Church in Bald Knob.

Mrs. Litzelfelner was preceded in death by husbands, Lowell A. Goforth, who died in France during World War II, and Ralph Lee Litzelfelner, who died June 30, 1999. Mrs. Litzelfelner is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Molly Helen Goforth Kircher and Larry Kircher of Bald Knob; granddaughters, Laura and Kenny Hays of Benton, Jennifer and Scott Self of Little Rock; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Marie Mueller of Benton; one brother and sister-in-law, T. W. and Martha Leggett of Memphis, Tenn.

Visitation was Sunday at Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob. Funeral services were Monday, at the Central Baptist Church in Bald Knob. Burial is at Shady Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church; P. O. Box 226, Bald Knob, Arkansas 72010.

Arrangements are entrusted to Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob-Judsonia.

Edna B. McKenney Potter

Edna B. McKenney Potter, 87, of Piggott died on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in the home of her daughter.

She was born April 3, 1919 at Dexter, Mo., and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Susie Mitchell Roach.

Edna married Elbert McKenny on September 2, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1963. One daughter was born of this union.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack and Bud Roach.

In 1985 Edna was married to Sam Potter, of Fagus, Mo., who preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue Bell of Piggott; one grandson, Durbin (Pat) Bell of Piggott; two brothers, Noel Roach of Ann Arbor, Mich., Earl (Jan) Roach of St. Charles, Mo.; one sister, Doris Garver of Jonesboro, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Thursday, and funeral services were held Friday, March 23, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Gary Hancock officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were John McKenney, Gary McKenney, Roger McKenney, Ira Causey, Bob Causey and Delmar Causey. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray White, Kenneth Potter, Donald Causey and John Cochran. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Mae Zidich

Helen Mae Zidich, 84, formally of Nimmons, died March 20, 2007, in Festus, Mo.

She was born July 22, 1922, in Blytheville. She is the daughter of the late John and Donna McClure.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Jeffus of Festus, and her son, John Perdue of Baytown, Texas; five grandchildren, Cheryl Almquist, Karen Bedwell, Daniel Perdue, Brian Perdue, and Allison Perdue; three great-grandchildren, Steven Gray, Candace Bedwell, and David Lee Bedwell; one great-great-grandson, Antonio Garcia; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Sunday, and graveside services were held Monday, March 26, at the Piggott Cemetery with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial will be in the Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Sharon Kaye Davis Neel

Sharon Kaye Davis Neel, 58, of Piggott, died March 18, 2007, in the St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born June 21, 1948, in Arbyrd, Mo., and was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Helen Wilkins Neel.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Neel.

She is survived by one daughter, Angie Bond and husband Keith of Piggott; one son, Darren Davis and wife Kim of Paragould; seven grandchildren, Kayla Bond, Jason Davis, Jacob Davis, Stacy Wade, Keisha Robertson, Autumn Wade, and Luke Wade; two brothers, Larry Neel of St. Charles, Mo., and David Neel of Bridgeton, Mo.; one sister, Cindy Fuller of Kennett, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Wednesday at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott. Graveside services were Thursday, March 22, in Lulu Cemetery in Senath, Mo., with Kevin Murray officiating. Pallbearers were Todd Neel, Luke Fuller, Luke Wade, Denny James, Randy Ellis, Morgan Burns, Darrus Burns and Rob Kitchen. Honorary Pallbearers were Jerry Neel, Keith Neel, Ricki Burke, Kenny Wilkins and Terry Wilkins. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott were in charge of the arrangements.

Nancy Lois Wade Vancil

Nancy Lois Wade Vancil, 99, of Germantown, Tenn., died Tuesday morning, March 20, in Germantown. She lived most of her life in Muncie, Ind.

She was born Feb. 27, 1908 in Piggott and was the daughter of the late Henry Hampton (Hamp) and Hettie Ellen Shelton Wade.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank and also an infant daughter June Ellen.

She is survived by her son Jack; daughter-in-law Ella Frances; three grandchildren, Mark Vancil, Lane Marie England, and Jon Vancil; six great-grandchildren; five nieces, Joyce Hickson, June Gourley, Jeanette Leach, Donna Kay Ordille, Jane Robertson; two nephews, Dan Wade and Bob Wade; and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 22, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Landon Saunders officiating. Burial is in the Piggott Cemetery with Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott in charge of the arrangements.

William Otis Watson

William Otis Watson, 87, died on April 28, 2007 at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital. He was born on Nov. 6, 1919, in Crockett. He was the son of Bert and Clara Watson.

William "Bill" married Isabel Rodriquez on June 25, 1962 in Benghazi, Libya.

Bill served in the Navy during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge in 1945.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Clara Watson; brother, Doyle "Ken" Watson, and sister; Eva Watson.

He is survived by his wife Isabel Watson, of Piggott; son, William Watson of Rector; and daughter Vickie Luce of Adrian, Mich.; four brothers, John Watson and Bert Watson Jr. both of Piggott; Norman Leon "Pete" Watson of Corning; James "Fat" Watson of Memphis; four sisters, Myrtle Satterfield, Shirley Satterfield; Sheba Lewis of St. Louis, area; Neva Hopper of Piggott; grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Viewing was Monday and funeral services were held Tuesday, May 1, in Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Matthew Watson, Thavuis Lewis and Charles Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott. Pallbearers were Brian Watson, Tim Watson, Dan Watson, Kevin Lewis, Mike Satterfield and Keith Satterfield. Honorary pallbearers were Bert Watson, Charles Watson, Clay Watson, Greg Watson and Jim Watson.

Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Dale James Russell

Dale James Russell, 88, of Mesa, Ariz., died Monday, April 16, 2007. He was born March 19, 1919 in Piggott. He graduated from Roswell High School.

Russell served in the U.S Army, Bushmasters from 1943-1946. He received the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Medals among others. After the service he worked in Postal Services and as a Valley Realtor.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 yrs, Edna. He was a loving father to his son, Jan and daughters, Shirley Zane (Donald), Linda Wrightsman (Clayton) and Barbara Alden (Bob). He had 4 grandchildren: Todd Wrightsman (Elena), Kristen Lindsell (Rich), Cami Lopez (Albert), and Cortney Clarke (Chris).

He adored his grandchildren as he did his 9 greatgrandchildren. Funeral services were held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Chapel, 719 N. 27th Ave., in Phoenix, Ariz.
