Marty Edward Hoggard

Marty Edward Hoggard, 41, of Piggott died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at the Baptist Hospital in Memphis.

He was born July 22, 1962, in Piggott, the son of Cornelious "Punk" and Joyce Gatlin Hoggard.

He was united in marriage to Laura Speer on December 14, 1996, to this union two sons were born.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Hoggard of Piggott; two sons, Brandon Marty Hoggard and Bradley Edward Hoggard of the home; two step-children, Melissa Bowers of Corning and Nikki Barker of Piggott; his parents; one sister, Debra Hoggard of Piggott; one grandmother, Oneida Gatlin of Piggott; three step-grandchildren, Matthew Bowers, Madison Bowers and Alex Bowers, all of Corning; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott with Ronnie Stevens officiating.

Burial was in Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Johnny Fry and Phillip Cross. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Fry Sr., Gene Johnson, Jim Ort, Eric Weeks, Ben Weeks, Jack Vaughn, Dewight McCoy, Jim Crowson, Eric Baker and all Fry Equipment employees.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements.

Billie Lee Golden

Billie Lee Golden, 72, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, April 7, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born in Alexandria, La., she lived in Fayetteville before moving to Jonesboro in 1966.

She was a retired high school business education teacher and taught in Prairie Grove, Piggott and Paragould. She was a graduate of Arkansas State University and earned a master's degree in business education from the University of Arkansas.

Mrs. Golden was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she was a primary class teacher. She was a member of the ASU Faculty Women's Club and a member of the St. Bernards Auxiliary. She was also a Master Gardener.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James F. Golden in 1987.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. James W. Golden of Little Rock and Dr. Stephen C. Golden of Jonesboro; one daughter, Dr. Nickie L. Golden of Honolulu, Hawaii; and four granddaughters, Leigh Ann Golden and Nancy E. Golden, both of Maumelle, Lyndsey B. Golden of Richmond, Va., and Kelsey C. Golden of Pocahontas.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at the First Baptist Chuch of Jonesboro with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial followed in Nettleton Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Malcolm Culpepper, Mike Ebbert, Dr. Willie Hurst, Dr. Dan Johnson, Cecil Massey and Paul Eiland.

Honorary pallbearers included Marlin Gennings, Emil Williams, Dr. Robert Abbott, Blanche Abbott, Billie Black, Dr. Michael Isaacson and Dr. Robert Chester. Members of the Phebean's Sunday school class, St Bernards Auxiliary and Master Gardeners of Jonesboro were also honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 701 S. Main, Jonesboro, Ark. 72401, or to St. Bernards Auxiliary, 225 E. Jackson, Jonesboro, Ark. 72401.

Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Odell Toombs

Odell Toombs, 80, of Piggott died Saturday, April 10, 2004, in the Firefighters Regional Burn Center in Memphis.

He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Senath, the son of the late Lewis Angus and Rosa Hester Wallace Toombs.

He was united in marriage to Jessalie Settlemoir Gossett on Feb. 11, 1950.

He accepted Christ while in the Burn Center in Memphis.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Fred Wegel; one sister, Imogene Dunlap; six brothers, Harmon, Raymond, Jesse, Joseph, Alvin and Clovis Toombs.

He is survived by his wife, Jessalie Toombs of Piggott; one son, Darrell Gossett and wife, Joan, of Piggott; two daughters, Gay Wegel and husband, Roger, of Piggott and Sherry Larson and husband, Gary, of Turlock, Calif.; six grandchildren, Lorre Gookin and husband, Gary, Justin Gossett and wife, Regina, Brock Gossett, Ashley and Christopher Wegel and Anna Larson; four great-grandchildren, Erica, Emma, Alex and Brent; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Kevin Murray and Bro. Jim Settlemoir officiating. Burial followed in the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard.

Active pallbearers were Gary Dunlap, Harold Dunlap, Stan Mathews, Steve Latta, Bill Toombs, Don Toombs, Howard Toombs and Eugene Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Leniel Dover, Louis Ellis, Grover Baker, Francis Renard and Jim Toombs.

William E. Bell

William E. Bell, 89, of Decatur, Ind., died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Bluffton Regional Medial Center.

He was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Piggott, the son of Clarence Bell and Lennie Underwood.

He married Letha Bell on Oct. 14, 1939.

He is survived by one son, Gerald Harmon of Enterprise, Okla.; two daughters, Linda Shaw of Liberty Center, Ind., and Shirley Davis of Piggott; one brother, Earnest Bell of Piggott; one sister, Martha Blalack of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (today), April 7, 2004, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Daniel York officiating. Burial will follow in the Piggott Cemetery. Irby Funeral Service, Inc., of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Brandon Lee Chilcutt

Brandon Lee Chilcutt of Piggott died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born March 25, 2004, in Paragould, the son of Jimmy Lee and Angel Frederick Chilcutt.

He is survived by his father and mother; grandmother, Katy Chilcutt of Piggott; great-grandmother, Catherine Risinger of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Kevin Murray officiating.

Burial was in Nimmons Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Tim Risinger, Tommy Risinger and Tony Risinger.

Gary Gilkison

Gary Gilkison, 50, of Paragould died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1953, the son of Jerry Gilkison and Nellie Deweese.

He was united in marriage to Karon Cheshire on April 12, 1975.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Julia Gilkison; and mother, Nellie Deweese.

He is survived by his wife, Karon Lynn Gilkison of the home; two daughters, Shelley LeeAnn Moore and husband, Delain, of Piggott and Christie Lynn Gilkison of Paragould; three grandchildren, Shelby Deanne Moore, Amber Renee Moore and Zachary Delain Moore; his father, Jerry Gilkison of Rector; one brother, Ricky Nash of Texas; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott with Bro. Robert T. Moore officiating. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard.

Active pallbearers were Dennis Stahl, Rick Taylor, Dennis Jones, Greg Hall, David Seales and Ralph Horner. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Clark, Danny Johnson and Gary Moore.

Frances Belle Bare

Frances Belle Bare, 81, of Piggott died Monday, April 12, 2004, in Jonesboro.

She was born May 21, 1922, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Minnie Cheatam Neely.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Joe Bare on August 31, 1946, to this union three sons were born.

She was a member of member the First Christian Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.

She was proceded in death by her husband in 1991; one granddaughter, Lauren Bare; five brothers, Arvel "Dick" Neely, Arley Neely, Raymond Neely, Jess Neely and Don Neely; three sisters, Bertha Cox, Marie Blan and Mary Lee Lyles.

She is survived by three sons, Tom Bare of Jonesboro, Michael Bare and wife, Tina, of Springdale, Ark., and Terry Bare and wife, Jeaninea, of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Jodie, Chris, Alex, Zachary and Pilar; three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Madison and Dilon; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens and Jay McPhearson officiating.

Burial was at the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Bare, Robert Hendrix, Michael Daniels, Josh Bettis, Jason Branch and Steve Mayville.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike Morgan, Brad Rouse, Rodney Rouse, Danny Baldwin, Ricky Wyss, David Ballard, Randy Caldwell, David James, Tim Layman, Terry Helleltine, Frank Davis and J.W. Toombs.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Claudean Bolen

Claudean Bolen, 82, of McDougal, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in Hardy.

She was born Nov. 1, 1921, in Murphysboro, Ill., the daughter of the late Arlie Lee and Elvira Elizabeth Jane Coffer Herring.

She was united in marriage to Silas Robert Bolen on Jan. 21, 1939.

She was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in McDougal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Robert Bolen in 1975; three brothers, Joe Herring, Wes Herring and Con Herring; and one sister, Jane Forbes.

She is survived by seven children, Genendal Kornexl of Chelsa, Mich., Howard Bolen of Dexter, Mich., Bonnie Read of Hardy, Linda Schmidt of Greenway, Jim Bolen of Hardy, Rob Bolen of Reyno, Vonda Nutt of Benton; one sister, Floie Gates of Hernando, Miss.; four brothers, Ray Herring of Dexter, Mich., Gerald Herring of Huntsville, Ala., Fred Herring of Corning and Ralph Herring of Corning; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday), April 21, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Rev. David Finley officiating.

Burial will be in the Post Oak Cemetery in McDougal.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Clay Bolen, Shawn Read, Randy Bolen, Ken Read, Jason Schmidt, Kiip Read, Deren Bolen, Buddy Kornexl, Robert Kornexl and Dylan Nutt.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Amberse Book

Carl Amberse Book, 72, of Mexico, Mo., died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, in Mexico.

He was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Carryville, the son of the late Floyd Ellis and Ernesteen Wright Book.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by three brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 20, 2004, in the Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, with Rev. Ottis Book officiating.

Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery with Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
