Mary Jane McKeel

Mary Jane McKeel, 77, of Kennett died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born June 26, 1929, in Russellville, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Silas T. and Charles Earle Pennington Redmond.

She was united in marriage to William H. McKeel on May 30, 1952. The couple had two children.

She was a retired public school teacher and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Library Book Review.

She is survived by her husband, William McKeel of Kennett; two sons, William "Giles" (and Susan) McKeel of Sautte, Ga., and Stuart Wade McKeel of Kennesaw, Ga.; four brothers, Silas T. Redmond of Waynesville, Mo., Max Redmond of Champaign, Ill., Carroll Redmond of Branson, Mo., and Lynn Redmond of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Juanita Buck of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Pat Nail of Haughton, La., and three grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren and Callie McKeel, all of Sautte, Ga.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett, Mo. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

George Lemuel Palmer

George Lemuel Palmer, 85, of Rector, died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born Oct. 30, 1921, in Senath to the late George and Fannie Palmer, he was a farmer, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Bethel General Baptist Church.

Also preceding him in death were his step-mother, Luna Palmer, and two brothers, Lowell Palmer and James Palmer.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Palmer of Rector; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Dereta Palmer of Rector; three grandchildren, Bret Palmer of Rector, Cassie Knight of Jonesboro and Carrie Kukkola of El Paso, Texas, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Carter and Bill Ward officiating. Burial was in Memorial Garden Cemetery in Kennett with Irby Funeral Home of Rector in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Linam, Michael Adams, Steve Champ, Lionel Dodd, Terry Cox and Kyle Cox.

Sue Jordan

Sue Jordan, 74, of Piggott, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

She was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Pollard, and was the daughter of the late Edd and Dovie Brady Helton.

She united in marriage to Jim Jordan on July 3, 1950, and they had one child.

She was preceded in death by three brothers; Elvin, Harry and Jewell Helton.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Jordan: one daughter, Vicky Meade and husband Jerome of Piggott; two sisters: Vivian Throgmorton of Piggott, and Nancy Jo Jordan of Piggott; and many other friends and family.

Visitation was Wednesday, with funeral services following on Thursday, June 28, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Joe Payne and Ellis Powell officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Lingle, Van Taylor, Randy Jordan, Bill Irby, Brad Montgomery, Don Simpson, Jeffrey Jordan, and James Featherston. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Jordan and Eric Jordan. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott were in charge of the arrangements.

Floretta Mae Tanner

Floretta Mae Tanner, 85, of Piggott, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell.

She was born May 24, 1922, in Rector, and was the daughter of the late Charlie Bevil and Lula Mae Beckley Hooks.

Floretta was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Piggott.

She was united in marriage to Bill Tanner on May 9, 1942. He preceded her in death in 2000.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Geraine Hooks and J.C. Hooks; and one sister: Imogene Cullum.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Friday, with funeral services following on Saturday, June 30, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Charles Carrens officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Trout, Terry Pollard, Kris Pollard, Paul Tanner, Blake Tanner, and Rodney Cosey. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home were in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Elizabeth Island

Alice Island, 74, died Saturday, May 30, 2007 in St. Louis. She was born Jan. 4, 1933 in Pollard, the daughter of Clara (Vaughn) and John Gettings.

She was united in marriage to Emmett Island. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Martha Gettings, Betty Gettings, Kathern Young, and Lorene Raines; Three brothers; Melvin Gettings, Charles Gettings and Lavell Gettings.

She is survived by two daughters: Barbara Zoellner and Janet Leporin; and a son Jerry Island, all of St. Louis; four sisters: Narine Howard and Christine Clifford of St Louis, Maggie Jones of Kansas and June Neeley of McDougal; two brothers: Wilburn Gettings of Piggott, and J.D. Gettings of Texas; along with six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, July 3, at Kurtis Chapel in Arnold, Mo., with Brother McCoy and Marion Jones officiating. Burial was at Arnold Mo.

Cassie Carmaleda Kilbreath Tyler

Cassie Carmaleda Kilbreath Tyler, 76, of McDougal, died July 14, 2007, in the Northeast Arkansas Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born July 15, 1930 in Pollard.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearlie Kilbreath; three husbands, one daughter, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two brothers.

She is survived by three children: Virgil Jerrell Gilbee of Brookland, Billy Wayne Gilbee of McDougal, and Vickie Louise Jackson of Brookland; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother: Wayne Kilbreath of McDougal and a host other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Monday, July 17, with graveside services held Tuesday, July 17, in Post Oak Cemetery in McDougal, with Rob Moore officiating. Hoggard & Sons Funeral of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Alma Binkley

Mary Alma Binkley, 71, died Friday, July 6, at her daughter's home in Crystal Lake, Ill.

Mary was born on July 10, 1935, in Piggott, to Carl Marcus and Lucille (McLeod) Binkley. She was born in the same house where her mother was born. She was the sister of Charles Ray (Maggie) Binkley of Tulsa, Okla., Wilma (Jack) Wilson of Murray, Ky., Jane (Jerry) Webster of Piggott and Robert Daniel (deceased infant).

Mary was married to L.F. (Pat) Robinson in 1955. They had 3 children: Patti (Doug) Jennings of Crystal Lake, Lea Ann (Mike) Brown of Fox Point, Wis., and Karl Desix (Jennifer) Robinson of Arlington, Tex.

Mary will be missed by 4 grandchildren: Mary (Jim) Kelleher, Ryan (Jennifer) Kuczen, Dallas and Salvador Brown; 3 great-grandchildren: Sydney Kuczen; Jaden Keaton Kelleher; 6 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

Mary committed her life to the Lord at age 12 and served as a faithful Christian from that time. She worked diligently to contribute to the Lord's work and be a faithful servant.

Most of Mary's professional life was dedicated to education as a librarian in public schools and universities in Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m., Aug. 11, at South Thornton Church of Christ. All family, friends, and lives she touched are welcome to attend and contribute. Richard Aiken will lead the celebration.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Paragould Children's Home (Children's Homes, Inc., 5515 Walcott Rd. Paragould, AR 72450 https://www.childrenshomes.org) will be appreciated.

Avis Frank Faulk

Avis Frank Faulk, 83, of Piggott, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at his home in Piggott.

He was born March 28, 1924, in Green County, to the late William Jet and Myrtle (Hutchins) Faulk.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Phyllis Faulk; son, Avis Frank Faulk, Jr. and fiancée Teresa Morris of Piggott; grandson, Brian Snyder of Mich.; and granddaughters, Felicia Faulk of Piggott and Brittinee Gray of Fla.; and great-grandson, Cody Westbrook of Kennett.

He was loved and respected by his step-children, Clark Rogers and wife Debbi of Romance, Ark.; Vanessa Burkhart and husband Everett of Poplar Bluff, and Phillip Wagster and wife Carla of St. Francis.

Frank was also Grandpa to nine step-grandchildren, Jennifer Pipes and Alex Eggers; Courtney Little, Dustin Little, Harley Burkhart; Katherine and Emily Graddy; and Hannah and Lily Wagster.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents William and Myrtle Faulk; his brothers, John, Harry, Joseph, and Paul; and his sisters, Ruth, Mary, Christina, Grace, and Florence.

Frank loved his country, proudly serving in WWII in the Philippines. He felt a sense of pride in his heritage and family and often told others how grateful he was to be born in America. He was active in his community, serving on the ASCS committee for more than ten years, and on the Clay County Fair Board Committee. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Frank frequently told his family that he was a lucky man to be able to do what he loved, working as a farmer, side by side with his son. He was well known by many as owner and operator of Pfeiffer Farm Supply, a family business that he ran with his wife Phyllis and son Frankie. The store was a gathering place for many that wanted to stop by to swap stories, drink coffee, play a practical joke or two before leaving with their garden seed, fertilizer, or horse feed.

He accepted Christ into his life and was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Piggott.

Visitation was Tuesday, with funeral services following on Wednesday, July 25, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Bro. Kevin Murray officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Vance Whaley, Rodney Foulk, Roger Scott, Gary Dunlap, Michael Mack, and Ronnie Graddy. Honorary Pallbearers were Jim Metz, Lawrence Dees, Carlton Stewart, Clarence Mack, Johnny Schmidt, and Cornelius Hoggard. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott were in charge of the arrangements.

Margie Estelle Farmer Wallis

Margie Estelle Farmer Wallis, 89, of Pine Bluff, former long-time resident of Athens, Tenn., died Sunday, July 22, 2007. She was a homemaker and a member of the Athens Church of Christ.

Wallis was a native of Clay County and a daughter of the late Charles Wilson Farmer and Amelia Dyer Farmer. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Otis Long and Olis Wallis; son, James Lowell Long; and sisters, Orba Jackson, Charlene Slayton, Lucille Stahl, and Oma Whitmore.

She is survived by three step-sons: Richard Wallis, Jim Wallis, and Bill Wallis; one step-daughter, Jean Sigler; caregiver and niece, Brenda Cardimona of Pine Bluff; and other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott.

Arrangements were by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services, Pine Bluff.

Evelyn Arveline Williams

Evelyn Arveline Williams, 75, of Campbell, formerly of Piggott, died Monday, July 16, 2007, in the St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born Feb. 1, 1932, in Piggott, and was the daughter of the late Cecil and Morine Williams Lack.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Everett Williams; her son, James Robert Huffman; and two brothers, J.W. and Bobby Lack.

She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Rittenhouse and husband Robert of Covington, Ga.; one grandson, Richard Rittenhouse and wife Melissa of Madison, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Katherine and Caroline; two sisters, JoAnn Parker of Rector, and Gwen Rodery and husband Carlos of Pinckney, Mich.; sister-in-law, Ella Lack of Poplar Bluff; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Thursday, July 19 with funeral services following on Friday, July 20, in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Darren Baker officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott will be in charge of the arrangements.
