Chronister

LAKE CITY -- Bettie L. Chronister, 77, of Lake City, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

A native of Sikeston, she worked for more than 20 years at American Electric Co. in Jonesboro. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a volunteer with St. Bernard's Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Michael B. Chronister of Paragould and Matthew Chronister of Riverside, Calif.; one daughter, Melissa Langston of Madison, Miss.; and six grandchildren, Hudson Chronister and Candace Chronister, both of Jonesboro, Neal Chronister and Katya Chronister, both of Paragould, and Garry Owen Langston and Ashley Lang-ston, both of Madison, Miss.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Chronister, four brothers and one sister.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, Mo., under the direction of Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, with the Rev. Michael Sutton officiating.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 801 South Main St., Jonesboro 72401.

Cox

WEINER -- Dennis Lee Cox, 43, of Weiner died Wednesday, Oct. 13, near Greenfield.

Arrangements will be announced by Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Weiner.

Dillon

BLYTHEVILLE -- Carson Lee Dillon, 87, of Blytheville died Sunday, Oct. 10, in Jenks, Okla.

Born at Rickman, Tenn., he was a longtime resident of Blytheville and a member of Northside Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for 41 years. He was a retired Army veteran who served during World War II and the Korean War.

He also was a retired civil service chief procurement officer, a member of the American Legion and was active in the "silver hair" legislative program in Arkansas.

Survivors include his daughter, Lou Annette Peeks of Jenks; three sisters, Jewell King of Nashville, Tenn., and Jonnie Capps and Anna Ruth Sevier, both of Algood, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Darla Cooper of Jenks, Sharla Park of Guthrie, Okla., and Carla Stephens of Lubbock, Texas; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Dillon, his parents and a brother.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Northside Church of Christ in Blytheville, with Danny Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Glissen

HARRISBURG -- Funeral services for Virginia Glissen, 88, of Harrisburg, who died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Woodbriar Nursing Home in Harrisburg, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Harrisburg.

The Revs. Jerry Kausler, Captain Lovell and John Lindsey will officiate. An Eastern Star service will follow. Burial will be in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Weston Funeral Service of Harrisburg.

Born in Tipper County, Miss., she had lived in Harrisburg since 1966 and was formerly of Marked Tree.

She and her husband operated Glissen's Service Station until 1975. She was a member of First Baptist Church at Harrisburg, and in 1994 she and her husband built and gave the Glissen Family Life Center to the church. She was a member of the Crowley's Ridge No. 625 Eastern Star. She was past matron of Elm Chapter in Marked Tree and past grand representative of Kansas in Arkansas.

Survivors include her husband, Orville Glissen.

Pallbearers will include Greg Crouch, Whitt Walls, Michael Hamrick, Joe Hamrick, James Glissen, Bobby Austin and Jim Tom Butler.

Honorary pallbearers will include Gene Crouch, Barry Walls, Melvin Kieffer, Charlie Gardner, J.S. Walls, Steve Eatin, Charles Johns, Harrison Johns, James Williams, Marcus Mars, Bill Stanley, James Wilson, Wilburn Comstock and Frankie Cole.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the Family Life Center.

Hano

GAUTIER, Miss. -- Jessie Mae Hano, 85, of Gautier, Miss., a native of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Gautier.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include two sons, James Mark Hano of Slidell, La., and Joel Emory Scarborough of Covington, La.; three daughters, Sandra Jean Guillot and Pamela Marie Becht, both of Loreauville, La., and Kathy Ann Werner of Gautier; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Elroy Hano Jr.; one daughter, Susan Kay Hano Abbye; her parents, George Joel and Mary Adeline Zimmerman Robinson; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday in the chapel of Jackson County Funeral Services in Escatawpa, Miss., with Jay Taylor officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Jackson

MANILA -- Lillie Irene Jackson, 87, of the Milligan Ridge community near Manila, died Thursday, Oct. 14, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born at Batesville, she had lived in Milligan Ridge since 1938. She was a member of Milligan Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Roe Jackson of the home; a daughter, Norma Jackson of Manila; three sons, Dewayne Jackson and Calvin Jackson, both of Jonesboro, and Loy Jackson of Manila; a sister, Willie Minton of Manila; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Howard Funeral Service chapel in Manila. The Rev. Waymon Holt will officiate, and burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould.

Grandsons Ricky Jackson, Dwight Jackson, Rodney Jackson, Matthew Jackson, Jeremy Jackson and Rusty Jackson will serve as active pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will include her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Milligan Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

Johnson

WALNUT RIDGE -- Leotha Johnson, 81, of Walnut Ridge died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

He had moved to Walnut Ridge from Lindsay, Calif., where he had been a longtime resident. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had worked for Waterman's Foundry in Exeter, Calif., for 28 years.

Survivors include two sons, L.Z. Johnson of Huntsville, Ala., and Jeffrey Lee Johnson of Susan Moore, Ala.; two daughters, Shirley Richards of Lancaster, Calif., and Nellie Wilson of Exeter; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zola Bea Johnson, and a daughter, Linda Chase.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sandlin Cemetery at Cairo, Ala., under the direction of Spry Mortuary of Athens, Ala.

Lawson

HARRISBURG -- Donald Lawson, 67, of Harrisburg died Tuesday, Oct. 12, at his residence.

Born at Old Joe, he was a farmer and a member of First General Baptist Church at Greenfield.

Survivors include a son, Mark Lawson of Harrisburg; four brothers, Howard Lawson of Scotland, Ark., and Jerry Lawson, David Lawson and Joe Lawson, all of Helena; three sisters, Rosemary Sowells of Scotland, Linda Futral of Quality, Ala., and Anne Smith of Conway; and two grandchildren, Connie Lawson and Chris Lawson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Cleo Lawson, his parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First General Baptist Church at Greenfield, with Allen Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Bolivar Cemetery at Harrisburg under the direction of Langford-Bookout Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will include Howard Lawson, Jerry Lawson, David Lawson, Joe Lawson, Wayne Sowells and Jerry Lawson Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will include Ronnie Strange, John Rains and Leo Schwartz.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

McKee

NEWPORT -- Freeda Alene McKee, 89, of Newport died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Harris Hospital.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Michael McKee of Mabelvale; one daughter, Gervis Bradley of Tuckerman; one brother, Johnie Northcutt of Polly, Texas; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow McKee; her parents, Robert and Pluma Northcutt; two brothers; and one sister.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Walnut Grove Cemetery under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport.
