Donald McMurray

ARKADELPHIA - Donald "Buck" McMurray, age 71, passed from this life on Aug. 7, 2008. Buck was born on May 21, 1937, in San Diego, Calif., son of the late Ralph and Hazel McMurray.

Buck worked for 30 years as an ironworker building bridges and buildings in several different cities. Once he retired, he enjoyed life to the fullest. He and his wife enjoyed eating out, watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with family. Buck was a true handyman and was known for helping out his family, neighbors, and friends. If there was something that needed to be fixed, Buck was always happy to help. Not only was he willing to help people in need, but he also supported the community. He would dress up as Santa Claus to raise money for the humane society and he also spent several hours a week picking up the litter on Red Hill Road. Another one of his interests was working on cars. He helped rebuild several antique cars and he once raced in the Baja 1000.

Survivors are his wife, Ramona McMurray; his daughters, Catherine McMurray of Los Angeles, Calif., Kelly Shuman and her husband Barry of Arkadelphia, Jaimie McMurray of Arkadelphia, Renee' Henderson and her husband Geoff of Eugene, Ore.; his son, Shawn McMurray of San Diego, Calif.; his brother Clyde Whicker and his wife Chris of Lakeside, Calif.; his sister Jane Harkey and her husband Bob of Pinetop/Lakeside, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren (including Vanda McMurray, Ashley Drake, and Sidney McMurray of Arkadelphia); and eight great-grandsons.

The memorial service will be held at Fellowship Bible Church on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at 3 p.m. Arrangments by Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the Clark County Humane Society, 627 Walnut St., Arkadelphia, Ark. 71923.

Perry G. Brown

DALLAS, Texas - Perry Garland Brown 49, of Dallas, formerly of Bismarck died Aug, 25, 2008, in Dallas. He was born Jan. 1, 1959, in Hot Springs the son of L. V. and Mattie McDaniel Brown. He was a former sales representative for Roma Food Distribution of Dallas and a member of the Oak Bower Church of Christ.

Survivors include: His parents L. V. and Mattie Brown of Bismarck; one brother, Richard Brown of Bismarck; one half-brother Bradley Phillips of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and one half-sister, Susan Estes of Portland, Ore.

A graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Oak Bower Cemetery near Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.

Elmer D. Smith

AMITY - Elmer Dale Smith, 65, of Amity died Aug. 27, 2008, at his home. He was born Sept. 26, 1942, the son of the Elmea and Mary Gann Smith. He was a sawmill worker and a brick layer. He was a member of Culvert Springs Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Survivors include: :His wife, Patsy Young of Norman; his mother, Mary Smith of Glenwood; two daughters, Michelle McCann and Leona Welch of Amity; one son, Tommy Young of Norman; four sisters, Annie Funderburk of Kirby, Euna Faye Spears of Amity, Cordelia Clements of Arkadelphia and Lavanda Golden of Langley; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Welch Funeral Home with Rev. Don Lane officiating. Burial will be in Coker Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Klein, Craig Martin, Jerry Barkman, Dennis Cagle, Tim Hill and Gary Buck.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, Ark. 72207.

Billy Roberts

GURDON - Billy "Sonny" Roberts, 76, went home to be with his Lord, Monday Aug. 25, 2008. He was a Baptist and was employed with Cabes Mill, International Lumber Co. and Anthony Lumber Co. in the shipping department.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jewel and Alma Roberts and one sister Lonnie Hargis. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Roberts of Gurdon, Ark.; one daughter Andra Brown and husband Danny of Monticello, Ark.; two grandsons, Bryan Brown of Conover, N.C., Barry Brown and wife Christina of Monticello, Ark,; three great grandchildren, Jada Brown, Brenden and Blaine Brown of Conover, N.C.; one sister Bobbie James of Bedford, Texas; two nephews, JR Hargis of Hope, Ark.,and Mike James of Bedford, Texas, and one brother-in-law Jr. Renfro of Gurdon, Ark.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Brown Cemetery in Bierne, Ark., under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon.

Visitation will be held today, Aug. 27, 2008, between the hours of 6-8 p.m. at Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon.

Billy G. Williams
LTC Billy G. Williams’ cremation remains will be laid to rest in a private ceremony Dec. 22, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the VA Cemetery at Keithville, La., with the Rev. Kirk Bullington in charge of the service. An honor guard will present the 21-gun salute at the close of the service.

Ellen Janise Eakin, 67, of Arkadelphia died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 in Little Rock.

Estella Mae Mitchell
Estella Mae Mitchell, 91, of Arkadelphia died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at the Baptist Health Medical Center Arkadelphia.

Thurman Hughes, 72, of Sparkman died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008.

Wanda M. Schee, 62 of Gurdon, died Dec. 11, 2008 in Memphis, Tenn.

Marion C. (M.C.) Ratliff, 92, of Mt. Ida, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, in Hot Springs after a short illness.

Roy L. Childress
Fendley, Ark. - Roy L. Childress, 96, of Fendley, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009. He was born in the Fendley Community, Clark County, on July 15, 1912, the son of the late Thomas Monroe and Emma Thomason Childress. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Otha Childress and George T. Childress. He was a World War II veteran. He served in the United States Army Air Force and was a continuous member of the American Legion since 1945. He was a retired farmer and school bus driver for Amity Public Schools. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church, had an abiding faith in God and loved his family.

Survivors include one son, R. David Childress; one daughter, Frances Childress; four sisters: Pearl Buck of Arkadelphia, Margie Childress of Fendley, Eunice Holder and Nell Wetherington both of Arkadelphia, and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. No visitation is planned. In lieu flowers, contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Fund.

Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, in the Oak Grove Cemetery in the Fendley Community with Rev. Billy Thomason officiating.

Valeri L. Jackson
Bismarck, Ark. - Valeri L. Jackson, 46, of Bismarck went to be with her heavenly father Sunday, Jan.18, 2009. She was born Sept. 2, 1962 to Walter Harold Jackson and the late Patricia Dannell (Cullen) Jackson in Champaign. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hot Springs.

Valeri was preceded in death by her mother Patricia D. Jackson.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, Pete and Pat Jackson of Bismarck; sister, Vicki Brown and husband Mark of Champaign; sister, Kristi Herring and husband Scott of Flower Mound, Texas; step-sister, Lindley Ralph and husband Michael of Columbus, OH.; two nieces and one nephew.

There are no services at this time.

Edna Francis
Arkadelphia, Ark. - Edna Francis, 58, of Arkadelphia died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at her home. She was born June 22, 1950 in Francis, Okla., the daughter of the late Arvel E. and Janey Lorene Knighten Trammel.

She was of the Pentecostal faith and worked at Doug’s Grocery in Gurdon.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Harold Francis; two sons, Toby D. Jones and wife, Missy, of Arkadelphia, and Ronnie Francis of Hot Springs; two daughters, Shelly Loy of Bismarck, and Christy Wilson of Gurdon; four brothers, Eugene Trammel of Malvern, Travis Trammel and Harold Trammel both of Caney and Eddie Trammel of Bismarck; one sister Phyllis Cook of Okolona; ten grandchildren and a very special pet, Dodie Francis.

Harold R. Green
Arkadelphia, Ark. - Harold R. Green, 48, of Arkadelphia, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 in National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs. He was born June 18, 1960, in Gurdon, son of Emma Alexander and Willie Green.

He worked in construction and graduated from Arkadelphia High School. He attended Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Gurdon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived his children, Angela L. Morris of Hot Springs, Jasmine Bill and DeUndrio Green of Little Rock; one brother, Willie Ed Green of Joilet, Ill.; one sister, Vicki Green of Gurdon and two grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at 1 p.m. in Williams Funeral Home; J. L. Williams Memorial Chapel with Elder Charles Buckley officiating.

Cremation services provided by Williams Funeral Home.
