Jessie Price
Jessie Dwight Price, age 85, of Morrilton, Arkansas, was born January 21, 1918, in Leslie, Arkansas, a son of Adolph Price and Ava Cooper Price passed away August 5, 2003.

He retired from Coleman Dairy in 1980 with loyal service for 27 years. He was a veteran in World War II; he served two years in Japan. He was a member of the Brady Masonic Lodge in Little Rock for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morrilton. He was preceded in eternal life by his wife of 66 years, Mary Louise Price.

He is survived by his son, Robert D. “Bob” Price and wife, Faye, of Houston, Arkansas; and daughter, Sherry Hillis of Morrilton; grandchildren, Robin Hutchins and husband Gene of Grapevine, Texas, Randy Price and wife Anita of Houston, Arkansas, Jamie Bean and husband Lynn of Plumerville, Tim Hillis and wife Susan of Greenbrier, Kristy Nutt and husband Fred of Bigelow; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 7, at Pinecrest Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers are Randal Price, Tim Hillis, Fred Nutt, Lynn Bean, Dan Hutchins, and Doug Hutchins.

Nola Ison
Nola Stover Ison, 42, of Colorado Springs, Colo, formerly of the Hill Creek community, died Nov. 24, 2003.

She was a teacher’s aide and homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Gregory Ison; children, Jonathan Ison of Missouri, and Kevin and Lara Ison of the home; three brothers, William D. Stover of London, Norman Stover of Morrilton, and Monte Fuller of Powhatan; three sisters, Roxie Brown of Plumerville, Sheila Fuller of Conway, and Yvonne Schrepfer of Leesville, La.

Services and burial were Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Paul Woodard
Paul L. Woodard, 94, of Wichita, Kan., formerly of Bigelow, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003.

Survivors include three sons, Wigmon Woodard of Wichita, Kan., Artensia Woodard of Valley Center, Kan., and Robert Wood-ard of Los Angeles; two daughters, Elnora M. Burton of Wichita, and Josephine Woodard-Choate of Bigelow; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was 1 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bigelow with the Rev. James Delph officiating. Burial was by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home.

Alice Lauderdale
Alice Mae Lauderdale, 50, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2003.

She was born Sept. 13, 1953, in Hot Springs, a daughter of Emmit Louis Crain and Linzy Arizona Hainley Crain. Mrs. Lauderdale was the widow of Leland Earl Lauderdale.

Survivors other than her mother include her son, James Lauderdale of Beebe; one daughter, Rebecca Lauderdale of Fort Smith; three brothers, Odell Crain of Jessieville, J.C. Crain and Carl Crain, both of Hollis; three sisters, Evie Welch of Conway, Mary Ackley of Morrilton, and Dorothy Ragland of Little Rock; and six grandchildren.

Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at Cherry Hill Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Perryville.

Pallbearers were Lonnie Barger Jr., Morgan Welch, Charles Martin, Calvin Crain, James Lauderdale, and Shawn Wise.

Elner Johnson
Elner Cleo James Johnson, age 90, of Perryville died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

She was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Paron, a daughter of Thomas James and Ida Williams James. Mrs. Johnson was the widow of William Lewis Johnson, and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include son, Bobby Johnson of Perryville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Perryville Church of Christ with Mr. Jason Almond officiating. Burial will be at Bolin Cemetery in Paron by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Rev. Raymond Smith
The Rev. Raymond J. Smith, 72, of Atkins died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003.

He was born Dec. 2, 1930, in Yell County, the son of Raymond J. Smith Sr. and Ora Jane Ballinger Smith. He was the widower of Dorothy Smith. Rev. Smith was the founder, builder, and former pastor of Hillcrest Pentecostal Church and was a minister for 40 years.

Survivors include two sons, Kenny Smith and Eddie Smith, both of Atkins; one daughter, Brenda Branch of Atkins; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday at Lemley Funeral Chapel by the Revs. Bob Branch, J.W. Heflin, and Bill Nowlin. Burial was at Atkins City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Adam Waldron, Carl Rackley, Jimmy Smith, Robert Fryer, Doug Heflin, and Bobbie Sweeden. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Fryer and Dean Grigsby.

Mable Hayes
Mable Marie Hayes, age 91, of Perryville, Arkansas, died Sunday, November 30, 2003.

She was born November 15, 1912, in Casa, Arkansas, a daughter of Fred Edwards and Lucy Jane Edwards. Mrs. Hayes was the widow of Orval Jackson Hayes, a homemaker, and a member of Worldwide Church of God.

Survivors include sons, J.L. Hayes, Jimmy Hayes, and Leon Hayes, all of Perryville; daughters, Barbara Byrd of Russellville and Orvillene Holmes of Centerville; sister, Omie Brand of Washington; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Charlene Maxwell.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 2 at Cherry Hill Cemetery with Bro. Lacey Minnie officiating. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Perryville.

Pallbearers were Carroll Campbell, Carl Campbell, Bobby Campbell, James Hayes, Lewis Campbell, and Bill Pharriss.

Claude Scallion
Claude John Scallion Jr., 76, of Morrilton died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at St. Vincent’s Infirmary in Little Rock.

He was born on Jan. 18, 1927, in Bigelow. He had been a resident of this area for about 15 years, moving here from Las Vegas. He had been an employee of the Perryville Adult Senior Citizens Center since 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Scallion; two daughters, Tamara Scallion of Florida and Jessika Scallion of Baton Rouge, La.; one sister, Elizabeth Habash of Iowa; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be privately held by the family. Burial will be at Volman Cemetery in Bigelow. Arrangements are by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Patricia Strassle
Patricia Jeanette Strassle, age 58, of Conway, Arkansas, died Monday, December 1, 2003.

She was born August 18, 1945, in Morrilton, Arkansas, a daughter of William H. Anderson Jr. and Imo Payne Mitchell. She was a purchasing secretary for Green Bay Packaging Inc.

Survivors other than her mother include husband, John Strassle of Bigelow; son, Michael Potts of Pine Bluff; daughters, Kim Hightower of Perryville and Melissa Hartsfield of Conway; stepmother, Vina Lee LaCook of Perry; brother, David Anderson of Oppelo; sister, Barbara Vales of Morrilton; half-sister, Sheila Spence of Morrilton; grandchildren, Joseph Potts, Kendall Hightower, and Gage Hartsfield; preceded in death by her father, William H. Anderson Jr. and brother, Gene Anderson.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 4, at Harris Chapel by Bro. Gene Tanner officiating. Burial will be at Ada Valley Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers will be Lex Anderson, John Paul Anderson, Paul Wellinghoff, Joe Jones, Don Johnson, and Herman Wellinghoff.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight (Wednesday).

Jimi Brown
Jimi Allene Brown, 95, of Morrilton died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

She was born Nov. 28, 1908, in Hermitage, a daughter of James Harvey Oliver and Lucy Gertrude Turner Oliver. Mrs. Brown was the widow of Dudley Brown Sr. and a member of Oppelo United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date by the Rev. Charles Wear. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Emma Lea Davis
Emma Lea Parker Davis, 88, of Morrilton died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003.

She was born March 4, 1915, in Plumerville, a daughter of Robert Parker and Lennie Garrett Parker. Mrs. Davis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morrilton, and former Plumerville Baptist Church pianist for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Thermon L. Davis; four sons, John Robert Davis of Jacksonville, Doyne L. Davis of Morrilton, Tommy Odell Davis of Conway, and Jerry Richard Davis of Maumelle; one brother, Woody Parker of Mablevale; two sisters, Voncille Peach of Little Rock and Faye Riggs of Morrilton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, at the First Baptist Church of Morrilton with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were Mark Davis, Scott Davis, Spencer Davis, Joshua Davis, J.R. Francis, and Bill Hubbard.

Roy Simms
Roy Alton Simms, 74, of Morrilton passed away November 25, 2003.

Roy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jackie Nisler Simms; one daughter, Debbye Beck of Morrilton and one bro-ther, Donald Simms of Benton.

Born January 30, 1929, Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bertha Simms, lifelong residents of El Dorado where Roy was raised.

Roy retired from the Morrilton Housing Authority after 32 years having served in various capacities such as Urban Renewal Development and executive director. He served as president of the Arkansas Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment in 1983-85.

Roy was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he had served as an usher for many years.

The funeral was at Morrilton First United Methodist Church, Friday, November 28, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Wm. Christopher Cooper officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were Tommy O’Donell, J.H. Allison, Roger Foust, Jim Bryan, Stewart Nelson, Charles Eddy, and Jim McKinnon.

Earl Hillis
Earl Edward Hillis, 82, of Houston died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004.

He was born July 20, 1921, in Houston, a son of Edward Eugene Hillis and Maude Freeman Hillis. He was the widower of Mildred Lankford Hillis, World War II Army veteran, retired accountant for the Arkansas Highway Department and member of Houston Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mack Edward Hillis and Carl Gene Hillis, both of Houston; two brothers, George Hillis of Wye Mountain and James Hillis of Augusta, Ga.; two sisters, Jessie Parker of Columbus, Ga., and Inis Underwood of Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday at the Harris Chapel with Bro. Buddy Wroten officiating. Burial was at May Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were James Wells, Tim Hillis, Joey Hillis, Shaun Hillis, Mike Hillis, and Toney Hillis.

Corlela Birkhead
Corlela Jones Birkhead, 89, of Dardanelle died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004.

She was born Sept. 16, 1914, in New Blaine to Arthur N. and Ella O. Sisk Jones. She was the widow of Lowell Birkhead. She and her late husband were one of the first founders of Meals on Wheels in Dardanelle, and worked for Sharing and Caring Food Pantry. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dardanelle, the United Methodist Women, and a charter member of Dardanelle Business and Professional Women, and the Garden Club. She retired after 30 years from Continental Telephone.

Survivors include one daughter, Mavis Welsh of Maumelle; one son, L. Dean Birkhead of Petit Jean Mountain; two sisters, Margie Conard of Appleton, Wis., and Aria Faye McElhaney of Great Bend, Kan.; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday, 10 a.m. at Cornwell Chapel in Dardanelle with the Rev. Floyd Ervin and the Rev. Bennie Harmon officiating. Interment was in Elizabeth Hall Cemetery in New Blaine by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle.

Pallbearers were Kip Welsh, Jeff Hunt, Brent Birkhead, Jason Welsh, Jordan Harper, Bailey Hunt, and Bedford Hunt.
