William ‘Bay’ Gladden
William “Bay” Wesley Gladden, 76, of Morrilton died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006.

He was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Fayette, Ala., a son of Vee Lewis Gladden and Della (Eitson) Gladden. Mr. Gladden worked in bridge construction from the age of 15 until he retired.

Survivors include one son, Michael Brewer of El Dorado; one daughter, Rhonda Fitzwater of Houston; one sister, Melva Jane Davenport of Waldron; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery with Bro. John Chapman officiating. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Ruby Hubbard
Ruby Farish Hubbard, 91, of Plumerville, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006.

She was born in Charleston on Oct. 10, 1914, a daughter of Charley and Eliza (Lockhart) Harris. Mrs. Hubbard was the widow of Leon Hubbard. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Morrilton.

Survivors include a son, Lucius Farish, of Plumerville.

Graveside services were 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with President John Hopkins officiating. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Morrilton AR 72110.

Lois Johnson
Lois Johnson, 70, of Bee Branch, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006.

She was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Bee Branch, to William and Ida Belle (Payne) Mahan. She was retired from the Jersey Milk Co. in California after 32 years of employment.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Clarence Alvin Johnson, one son, Wayne A. Johnson of Bee Branch; three sisters, Alene Bynum of Bee Branch, Ilamae Good of Independence, Mo., and Bonnie Lee Shipp of Hattieville; one brother, Bill Mahan of Center Ridge; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, 1 p.m., at the Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier with burial in Old Whipple Cemetery in Bee Branch.

Steven Knight
Steven Ashley Knight, 50, of Sarasota, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006.

He was born Jan. 30, 1955, in Coral Gables, Fla. Mr. Knight was the founder of Launch Pad One Ministries and a teacher of Oak Park School.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki (Cragar) Knight; one son, Nathan A. Knight of Sarasota, Fla.; one daughter, Natali V. Knight of Sarasota, Fla.; father, James Knight of New York, N.Y.; mother, Rosemary K. Moore of Bradenton, Fla.; brother, John M. Knight of Tallahassee, Fla.; and one sister, Nancy E. Gibson of Rougemont, N.C.

Graveside service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Cemetery. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Jermiah Moore
Jermiah James Moore, infant son of Robert and Pamela Moore of Oppelo, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006.

Other than his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, David and Vickie Hull of Old Hickory; and paternal grandparents, Eddy and Terry Moore of Plumerville.

Funeral service was 10 a.m., Monday, at the Lost Corner Cemetery near Cleveland. Services were by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home, Morrilton.

James Harold Morse
5-25-1923 — 1-7-2006

James Harold Morse, 82, of Bigelow, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in Conway.

He was born May 25, 1923, in Lake Village, to Clifton Morse and Willie (Pool) Morse. He was a member of Bigelow Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon for several years, a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge No. 758 of Bigelow, a Navy veteran of World War II, and a retired carpenter and tool grinder.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eloise (Graddy) Morse; two daughters, Debra Morse and Vonda Akridge, both of Bigelow; two grandchildren, Don (Barbi) Akridge of Conway and Sonja (Dewayne) Story of Bigelow; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Garrett of Mayflower and Virginia Holt of Remlap, Ala.; and two brothers, Wayne Morse of Arlington, Texas, and Willie Morse of North Little Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Alva Morse. He also leaves a large host of friends.

Services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bigelow Baptist Church with burial at Volman Cemetery with Bro. Cary Condray and Bro. James Wilson officiating. Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway was in charge.

Pallbearers were Ronald Wayne Black, Bill Baker, Gerry Harding, Richard Miller, Wayne Reed, and Bob Gipson.

Leslie Scruggs
Leslie Scruggs, 84, a resident of Casa, died Thursday, Jan.5, 2006, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock.

He was born Aug. 19, 1921, at Waltreak, Ark., to Little Roland and Clarcy (Wiggley) Scruggs. He was a former employee of the Corps of Engineers and was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Casa Church of Christ for over 40 years and enjoyed camping and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bernice (Hance) Scruggs of Casa; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Dale Ridge of Little Rock, Judy and Bill King of Ola, and Rhonda and Tim Rainey of Casa; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Pam Scruggs of Dardanelle, Hubert and Margaret Scruggs of Ola, L.R. and Betty Scruggs of Tennessee, and Wayne and Tate Scruggs of Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Emma Lou and Monroe Alexander of California; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at the Casa Church of Christ with Bro. Bobby Fallen and Bro. Leslie Van Winkle officiating. Burial was in the Needmore Cemetery near Casa under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Dennis Smith, Charles Hance, Scott Hance, Ronnie Hance, Mark King, and Tim Ridge.

Price Stroud
Price Stroud,77, of Morrilton, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006.

He was born on Jan. 11, 1928, in Cleveland, to Roy Louis Stroud and Sally (Halbrook) Stroud. He was preceded in death by his first wife, June (Boyle) Stroud, and a son, Roy Lewis Stroud.

As a youth he attended school in Cleveland, Scotland, and Wonderview. Around 1943, he and his father moved to Morrilton. During these school years, one of his fondest memories was of playing basketball. When he graduated, his father helped him start a grocery and feed business on Moose Street in Morrilton. He later began selling household appliances and then went to TVs and appliances. This business became Stroud’s Home Furnishings. In the mid- to late-1950s, he started to grow his business by taking TVs into homes, and asking people to keep them a week and try them. That was met with much success. He stayed in business on Moose Street for more than 50 years. He loved his customers, and he enjoyed selling. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Downtown Morrilton.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Louise Stroud; two daughters, Cindy Bradford of Plumerville, and Cheri Pruitt of Solgohachia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family hour will be tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 7. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Downtown Church of Christ with burial at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Leland Pruitt, Eric Pruitt, Jerry Pruitt, Steve Pruitt, John Eddy, and Olen Ray Hill. Honorary pallbearers are Olen Ray Fullerton, T.J. Mahan, Joe Fletcher, Charles Burcham, Bill Gullett, and George Robertson

Glynace Stuard
Glynace Baker Stuard, 85, of Warren, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006.

She was born Feb. 11, 1920, at Sumpter, a daughter of William Henry Baker and Odie Adell (Seymour) Baker. She was a retired staff member of West Brothers Department Store, a seamstress and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was the widow of Jessie Stuard.

Survivors include a son, Floyd Dale Stuard of Warren; two daughters, Anita Williams of Warren and Janice Goodall of Morrilton; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren, and two great-great-stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Frazer’s Chapel. Burial was in Outlaw Cemetery at Sumpter by Frazer’s Funeral Home.

Pauline Wells
Pauline Emma Lee (Ponds) Wells, 92, of Morrilton died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.

She was born June 5, 1913, a daughter of James Earnest and Addie Oliver Ponds. She attended Morrilton public schools. She was a dietician at St. Anthony’s Hospital for 24 years, until she retired at the age of 67. She was a member of St. Paul AME Church and the widow of Wood Olan Wells.

Survivors include three sons, Carlton (Ann) Wells and Charlie (Betty) Wells, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Anthony (Donna) Wells of Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Ollie (Pette) Cole and Paulette (Jimmy) Smith, both of Kansas City, Kan., Janette (Johnny) Jones of Center Ridge, and Ophelia Wells of Morrilton; one brother, Claude Lee (Etta) Ponds; one sister, Hazel (William) Nelson; 25 grandchildren, including Christy Raynette Wells Wright of Morrilton, who she helped raise; 55 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 12 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul AME Church by Bro. Charlie R. Wells. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetery by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Allen Stricklen, Edward Ross, Perry Brown, and Lawrence McDaniel.

‘Ann’ Acton
Aney Ray “Ann” Acton, 89, of Clinton, died Friday, April 7, 2006.

She was born Nov. 26, 1916, in Van Buren County to Wylie Scroggins and Dovie Carolyn (Patterson) Scroggins.

Survivors include one son, Bon Dale Lents of Rush Springs, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at 10 a.m. in Choctaw Church of Christ. Burial was at Old Liberty Cemetery by Roller McNutt of Clinton.

Doris Aultman
Doris Elizabeth (Moore) Aultman, age 84, of Morrilton, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006.
She was born January 23, 1922, in Griffin, Georgia, a daughter of Ira Moore and Grace (Couch) Moore. She was the widow of Leon Aultman after 62 years of marriage, a retired inspector for Crompton Mills, and a member of First Baptist Church of Morrilton since 1951.
She is survived by two daughters, Veronica Batson of Pearland, Texas, and Connie Walker and husband Ed of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Robert, David and Michael Batson and Kristi Townsend; four great-grandchildren, Dustin Walker, Sarah Massey, and Calista and Colton Batson.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Ed Walker, Michael Batson, Robert Batson, David Batson, Roger Eubanks, and Nathan Jordan.

Sarah Canady
Sarah Edna Canady, 83, of Cleveland, died Monday, April 3, 2006.

She was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Cleveland, a daughter of John and Gleenie (Price) Moore. She was a member of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church. She was district chairwoman for Life Member Council of the WHOMS, Little Rock/Hot Springs, Southwest Delta Regional Arkansas Conference, deaconess, and class leader. She was a member of the church choirs. She retired from Levi Strauss and was the widow of Theoda Canady.

Survivors include one daughter, Mae Ester Wright of Cleveland; five sons, Runall Canady of Denver, Colo., Curtiss Canady of Grandview, Mo., Kelsey Canady of Aurora, Colo., Theauther Canady of Raytown, Mo., and Charles Canady of Conway; one brother, Daniel Moore of Kansas City, Kan.; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church by Dr. Clarence Hobbs. Burial was in Moore’s Chapel Cemetery by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were James Wright, Joseph Wright, Rexford Canady, Bryan Canady, David Wright, Derrick Canady, Gregory Canady, and Anthony Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers were stewards and trustees of Moore’s Chapel.

Charlotte Dodson
Charlotte Rebecca Dodson, 52, of Plumerville died Saturday, April 1, 2006.

She was born April 25, 1953, in Little Rock, a daughter of Harold Vernon and Henerritea Dodson. She was a member of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Shannon Ballard of Conway; one brother, Rickey Dodson of Kansas City, Kan.; and two sisters, Joyce Redding of Oklahoma City, and Patricia Colunga of San Bernardino, Calif.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday at the Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. James Robinson. Burial was at Menifee Community Cemetery by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Bobby Hood, Neal Hood, James Lockett, David Hood, Joe Hull, Marcullius Baskins, and Gary Strickland. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Thomas Hallett
Thomas Henry Hallett, 86, of Morrilton, died Friday, March 24, 2006.

He was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Oppelo, a son of Henry Hallett and Annie (Jones) Hallett. He was a self-employed farmer. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Juanita Gist Hallett and Edith Hale Hallett.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Dale McNew of Morrilton, Catherine Worley and Barbara Maxine Jackson, both of Dallas, and Karen Sue Hallett of Oppelo; one son, Thomas Allen Hallett of Oppelo; four stepchildren; one sister, Sarah Nell Gullett of Oppelo; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and 18 stepgrandchildren.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home by Bro. Mike Atkinson. Burial was at Wolf Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Darvin Reno, Chris Uting, Clay Stover, Sonny Stover, Anthony Worley, and Bill Gullett.
