Lilburn Williams
Lilburn Lane “L.L.” Williams, 90, of Fredericksburg, Va., died Monday, April 24, 2006.
He was connected with the Arkansas public schools for 36 years. His education included a bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas and a Master’s degree from Louisiana State University. His earlier work experience included years as teacher of physical education and coach of football, basketball, and track in Arkansas high schools.
He was a World War II Army veteran. When retired, he was active in the hospital auxiliary of Clarksville. He was the widower of Abbie (Baird) Williams of Springdale. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church of Fredericksburg.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. Forrest B. Williams of Falls Church, Va., Dr. Russell W. Williams of Fredericksburg, Va., and Carl R. Williams of Arlington, Va., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 29, in the chapel of the Welch Funeral Home in Montross, Va. Interment was at the cemetery of the Providence United Methodist Church of Montross.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
Mary ‘Lou’ Phillips
Mary Luella “Lou” Phillips, age 76, of Springfield, Ark., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006.
She was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Mallettown, Ark., a daughter of John Milton Sullivan and Rhoda Altha (Mallett) Sullivan. She was a retired nurse, member of Springfield United Methodist Church and the widow of Harold Willard Phillips.
Survivors include her son, Daniel Phillips and wife Anita of Springfield; daughter, Linda Smith and husband Eddie of Springfield; three brothers, John Wilton Sullivan of Neosho, Mo., James Milton Sullivan of Conway, and Danny Dale Sullivan of Haskell; five grandchildren, Bill Ed and J.J. Smith, Brianna Pate, Cassie and Alana Phillips; five great-grandchildren, Savannah, Anna, Sidney, Whitney and Alexandra Smith.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at the Springfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Watt officiating. Burial was at Springfield Cemetery
by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Bill Ed Smith, J.J. Smith, T.J. Pate, Ricky Buckmaster, Alan Buckmaster, Gus Biggers, Andy Biggers, Jim Hensley and Racy Garis.

Edwin Read Jr.
Edwin Miles Read Jr., 82, of Enumclaw, Wash., died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006.
He was born March 30, 1924, in Seattle, Wash. He attended Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph grade schools and graduated from Seattle Prep in 1941. He studied chemical engineering at then Seattle College and did graduate work at the University of Washington. In 1965, he moved to St. Elizabeth where he supervised construction of Arkansas Kraft Corp., a division of Green Bay Packaging Inc. He retired as a vice-president in the mid-’80s.
After retirement, Mr. Read served as principal at Sacred Heart High School in Morrilton. He underwent Deacon training through the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock. He served St. Elizabeth Parish next to his home until 1993 when he and Katie moved back to the Pacific Northwest, where he exercised his Diaconate at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Langley on Whidbey Island.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Katie) Read; two daughters, Susan Warwick and Rebecca Slater; two sons, Daniel Read and Peter Read; three brothers, Dave Read, Dan Read (Fr. Ignatius) and Joe Read; one sister, Carol Read; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A Rosary was said on Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart in Enumclaw. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Oct. 30, 11 a.m. at St. Hubert (804 3rd St., Langley). Cremation followed, and internment will be in 2007 at St. Elizabeth Cemetery
in Arkansas.

Captola Haney
Captola (Ring) Haney, 81, of Atkins died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at her home.
She was born May 27, 1925, in Cleveland, a daughter of Ed and Vesta Ring of Morrilton. She was a member of Atkins United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Bob Haney; four sons, Ralph D. Dollar of Columbus, Miss., Robert Haney of Atkins, David Haney of Angleton, Texas, and Donald Haney of Atkins; three brothers, Ralph Ring of Cleveland, Woody Ring of Center Ridge, and Dr. Gene D. Ring of Dardanelle; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday at Lemley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Woody officiating. Burial was in Atkins City Cemetery
by Lemley Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were nephews: Bruce Haney, Randy Haney, Robert McCollum, Jimmy Horton, Steve Ring, and Steve Pyle.

L.W. Ruff
L.W. Ruff Jr., age 72, of Morrilton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, in Little Rock.
He was born June 3, 1934, in Morrilton, a son of Loid Wood Ruff Sr. and Ruby (Miller) Ruff. Mr. Ruff retired after 29 years as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Army paratrooper veteran, member of the Masonic Lodge No. 105, 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite, board member of the Lord’s Schoolhouse Community Center and of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Jane (Smith) Ruff of Morrilton; one son, Doug Ruff (Michelle) of Perryville; one daughter, Betsy Bostian (Bryan) of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Judy Ruff of Morrilton; one brother, Bobby George Ruff (Wanda) of Jonesboro; and five grandchildren, Justin Ruff (Whitney) of Little Rock, Jeremy Ruff of Morrilton, Corey and Candace Ruff of Perryville, and Sarah Bostian of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Ruff, in March of 2006.
Masonic graveside services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Springfield Cemetery
with the Rev. Charles Watt officiating.
Pallbearers were Eddie Smith, Bill Ed Smith, J.J. Smith, Andy Biggers, Gus Biggers, Hal Martin, Billy Clyde Ruff, Willis Price and Milton Haley. Honorary pallbearers were the Masons. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Charles Palmer
Charles Palmer, 80, of Perry, Ark., passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006.
He was born July 15, 1926, in Plumerville, Ark., a son of James Lester Palmer and Ponnie Mimms Palmer. Mr. Palmer was a World War II Army veteran and an engineer for the Rock Island Railroad.
Survivors include his sons, Randy Palmer of Lawton, Okla., Mike Palmer of Oppelo, and Keith Palmer of Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Debbie Hoyt of Russellville and Charlene Palmer of Little Rock; special friend, Nettie Cleaver of Perry;
brothers, Billy Palmer and Kenneth Palmer, both of Hayti, Mo.; sisters, Evelyn Hale of Nesbit, Miss., and Carol Bozarth of St. Louis, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at Harris Chapel with the Rev. Richard Davis officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at the funeral home in Morrilton.
Tamiko Agee
Tamiko (Dickerson) Agee, 38, of Little Rock, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006.
She was the daughter of the late Wilbert Dickerson.
Survivors include her mother, Ora Dickerson; husband, Joseph Agee; five children, Jarvis Dickerson, Jason Dickerson, Joseph Agee, Joann Agee, and Aisa Agee, all of Little Rock; eight sisters, Vera Darris, Wilhelmina Rose, Ramona Plummer, Stephanie Roach, Emma Laster, Valerie Hood, Dasha Dickerson, and Derenda Dickerson; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., at the Trinity Grove Baptist Church in Marche.
Pryor Cruce
The Rev. Pryor R. Cruce, 79, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006.
He was born in Morrilton, a son of Pryor and Alma Cruce Sr. He graduated from Morrilton High School, Hendrix College and Southern Methodist University. He was a retired minister serving in Swifton, Newport, Rose City United Methodist Church in Little Rock, DeQueen, College Hill UMC in Texarkana, Ark., Midland Heights in Fort Smith, Wiggins UMC in Fayetteville, Huntington Avenue UMC in Jonesboro, Gardner Memorial UMC in North Little Rock, and West Helena.
He was a member of Arkansas Conference of United Methodist Church and was a member of several conference committees, and was an active part of the Board of Ordained Ministries. He was active in Wesley United Methodist Church and was a member of the Win One Sunday School Class. Rev. Cruce was a former Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America and was an active member in many historical societies throughout Arkansas and was involved in many organizations in the communities in which he lived.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Cruce; daughter, Pamela Cruce of North Little Rock; sons, Martin Cruce of Little Rock, Daniel Cruce of Fort Smith, Steven Cruce of Dewey, Okla., and Kenneth Cruce of Ozark, Mo.; brother, Jimmy Cruce of Lonoke; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Wesley United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Cemetery
under the direction of Putman Funeral Home, Fort Smith.

Clara Johnson
Clara Belle Williams Bartlett Johnson, age 82, of Morrilton, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2006.
She was born August 18, 1924, in Center Ridge, Arkansas, a daughter of Thomas Jefferson Williams and Sarah Ann (Maxwell) Williams. She was a homemaker and a member of the Harding Street Church of Christ.
She is survived by her sons, Butch Bartlett and his wife Kay of Birdtown and David Bartlett and his wife Barbara of Morrilton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hulan Merrick Bartlett and Cecil Leroy Johnson, and one grandson, Timmy Bartlett.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, at the Harris Chapel with Mr. Charles Bane officiating. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery
by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Tony Spires
Thomas “Tony” Carroll Spires, 51 of Morrilton, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1955, in Morrilton, a son of Ferryman Spires and Clara Mae (Willis) Spires. He was a self employed handyman. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Dewayne Spires of Nevada and Carroll Shane Spires; three sisters, Marlene Milan, Freda Ware, and Hazel Lawery, all of Morrilton.
Funeral services were privately held by the family. Services and arrangements were by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Dorothy Skinner
Dorothy Delores Pledger-Skinner, 46, of Kansas City, Kan., died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006.
She was born Dec. 25, 1959, in Morrilton, a daughter of Alexander and Delphine (Brown) Pledger. She was a 1977 graduate of Morrilton High School. She was employed at Best Brands.
Other than her mother, survivors include her husband, Richard Skinner; children, Prentess Pledger and Dennis Pledger; stepson, Marcus Clark; stepdaughters, Tasha Clark and Richael Skinner; six sisters, Janice Sullivan, Sandra Ellingburg, Merrille Harrison, Betty Reed, and Kathy Pledger-Robinson, all of Kansas City, Kan., and Clara Wilson of Georgia; six brothers, Eurond Pledger, Levi Pledger, Ricky Pledger, and Billy Pledger, all of Kansas City, Kan., and David Pledger of North, Kansas City; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, 2106 Quindaro Blvd., in Kansas City, Kan. Visitation will be from 9 until 10:30 a.m. before the service. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery

Cleo Teal
Cleo Myrick Teal, 77, of Little Rock, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006.
He was born in Little Rock, a son of Claude and Ollie Teal, and graduated from Little Rock High School (now Central High). He then attended Little Rock University (now University of Arkansas at Little Rock) and Arkansas State Teachers College (now University of Central Arkansas). He served as a corporal for two years in the 7th Cavalry Regiment, U.S. Army, of which more than half the time was spent in occupied Japan.
He joined the Harvill-Byrd Electrical Co., where he worked for 44 years. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 295 and was active in the Rosedale Optimist Club.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patricia Bruce Teal; two children, Gary Michael Teal of Mountain Home and Carol Teal Forthman of Little Rock; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private, for family members only.

Charlotte Williams
Charlotte K. Williams, 92, of Concord, Calif., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006.
She was born July 12, 1914, in Old Hickory. She was the widow of Arnn Williams and a member of the Church of Christ in Concord.
Survivors include her children, Bill C. Austin of Monmouth, Ore., L. David Austin of Dallas, Ore., Judith A. Martin and James A. Williams, both of Concord, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ola Smith
Ola Mae Smith, 73, of Little Rock, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007.
Born March 23, 1933, in Paron, she was the daughter of Martha (Belle) and Christopher Columbus Hunt.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robert D. Smith; one son, William Hamilton Smith of Denver, Colo; one daughter, Bobbi Donna Goodell of Denver, Colo; two brothers, William “Buddy” Hunt of Colorado and Maxie Hunt; and two sisters, Opal French and Wanda Paul, both of Arkansas.

Randy Long
Randy Alan Long, 31, of Bigelow, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007.
Born at Omaha, Neb., he lived many years at Minot, N.D., prior to moving to Jonesboro. He was a carpenter and veteran of the U.S. Army and lived in Bigelow the past three years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Stanley and Wanda McKay Long of Jonesboro; and one brother, Stephen Long of Jonesboro.
