Janet (Oates) Ralstin
Janet Emelia (Oates) Ralstin died at her home on April 15, 2007.

She was born on June 3, 1950, in Russellville, Ark., the daughter of Wade and Emily Oates of Morrilton, Ark. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Wade and Eunice Oates, and her maternal grandparents, Forrest and Margaret Henry.

Survivors include one brother, Randall Oates and his wife Cathy; one nephew, Ben Oates; and one niece, Brook Oates, all of Fayetteville, Ark. Survivors also include her cats, Mia and Jolie.

Janet graduated from Morrilton High School. She went on to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville for pre-pharmacy and received a B.S. degree at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. She subsequently completed the Master’s of Clinical Pharmacy program at Ohio State University in Columbus. Later she completed a Master’s program in Social Work at the University of Kansas in Kansas City.

For the last 10 years her career involved the management of clinical research in multiple phases of pharmaceutical drug development. This often involved international travel, which she enjoyed. Most recently she was a senior project manager for Paragon Biomedical in Kansas.

Janet was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Overland Park. Most of her free time involved outreach activities for persons in need. Professionally, she has been active in the American Pharmaceutical Association. She was especially active in the Pharmacist Recovery Network. In recent years she added gardening to her list of passions.

A visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Morrilton, Ark. from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2007.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Anthony Lamar Fund, 5520 W. 85th St., Overland Park KS 66207; or to the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Chestnut St., Morrilton AR 72110. Janet was also a breast cancer survivor, so contributions to the Susan. B. Komen Foundation would also be appreciated.

Local arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Sherry Livingston
Sherry Livingston, 63, formerly of Morrilton, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007.

She was born May 2, 1943, in Little Rock, a daughter of Louise and Al Shoemaker of Petit Jean.

Survivors include one daughter, Paige Hammond of Huntsville, Ala.; two sons, Cliff and Greg Livingston of Lake City, Fla; two sisters, Rosemary Smith and Melissa Bennett of Morrilton; one brother, Steve Branch of Petit Jean; and eight grandchildren.
She was cremated. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Dovie Reid
Dovie Jo (Wofford) Reid, 83, of Robertsville, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2007.

She was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Birdtown, Ark., a daughter of Matt Wofford and Maudie Maybelle (Moore) Wofford. She was a homemaker and member of Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Reid and wife Carolyn of Robertsville and Kevin Reid and wife Tina of Robertsville; four daughters, Sue VandeVeer of Robertsville, Sandi Church and husband Bob of Roberts-ville, Ann Church of Jerusalem, and Kay Thompson and husband Danny of Appleton; one sister, Edna Faye Reid of Earlsboro, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, L.M. “Dooger” Reid; a son-in-law, Quinton Church; a grandson, Scott Church; and two sisters, Linnie May and Lena Ward.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Carroll Hanna and Bro. Joey Hanna officiating. Burial was at Robertsville Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, and honorary pallbearers were her great-grandsons.

Curtis Eugene Lamb
Curtis Eugene “Gene” Lamb, 57, of Plumbsteadville, Pa., formerly of Morrilton and Texas, died Friday, April 20, 2007. He served in the U.S. Army Airborne in Vietnam. He was the owner of NCI Concrete and attended Central Bucks Christian Fellowship.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lamb; mother, Edith Morrow of Morrilton; six sons, Sam Lamb and Steve Lamb, David Rivera, John Vasquez, Joe Vasquez and Jason Vasquez, all of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Jodie and Billy Joe Lamb of South Carolina; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Jimmy Lamb of Oklahoma; four sisters, Debbie Wright of Arkansas, Charlotte Merrit and Janet Doolittle, both of South Carolina, and Diane Rutherford of Florida.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Central Bucks Christian Fellowship, Plumsteadville, with Pastor Jerry Hutson officiating. Interment was in Groveland Cemetery by Decker Funeral Home, Warminster.

Sherry Stobaugh
Sherry Diane (Smith) Stobaugh, 57, of Morrilton, died Wednesday April 18, 2007.

She was born March 23, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Charles Smith and the late Valoria (Collins) Smith. She was a waitress at Mom and Pop’s Restaurant and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jessie Hunt III of Morrilton and Terry Sowell of Conway; one brother, Ronnie Hogue of Iowa; three sisters, Marcia Forrester of Bee Branch, Cathy Felton of Scotland, and Becky Hogue of Iowa; and six grandchildren.

Memorial service was 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Sheila Gardner and Jo and Gordon Warren officiating. Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton was in charge of arrangements.

Addison Halbrook
Addison Caroline Halbrook, infant daughter of Shawn and Jennifer (Masters) Halbrook, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007. She was born May 10, 2007, in Little Rock.

Survivors include her parents, of Morrilton; brother, Cade Halbrook, and sister, Ashlyn Halbrook, both of the home; paternal grandmother, Arlene Halbrook; and maternal grandparents, Charles and Opaline Masters of Oppelo.

Addison was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Gary Halbrook.

Graveside service was 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Old Liberty Cemetery with Dr. Bill Brown officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Addison to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Hattie Pearl Burns
Hattie Pearl Burns, 81, of Morrilton, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at her home from complications of surgery in January with her family by her side.

She was born Jan. 8, 1926, at Solgohachia, Ark., the second child of Dovie Adeline (Maxwell) and Edgar Pearl Martin. She was a 1944 graduate of Wonderview High School where she was class president and valedictorian. Hattie worked at Arkla Gas Company in Russellville before her marriage to Buell and after marriage sold Avon cosmetics for 32 years and worked for the Welcome Wagon.

She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, first in the Lanty Community where she grew up and then in Morrilton. She was a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class and the Audra Basham Guild and was very active in her church family.

Hattie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was devoted to her family and always put them first in her life. She was very outgoing, never met a stranger and had many, many friends. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Buell Edwin Burns; her parents; and brothers, Wendell Ray Martin and wife Penny, George Wayne Martin, and James Luther Martin.

She is survived by a son, Edwin Gibson Burns and his wife Rita of Little Rock; three daughters, Judith A. Galloway and husband Bill of Russell-ville, Janet C. Mourot and husband Mike of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Lynne M. Tomlinson and husband Stanley of Morrilton; two sisters-in-law, Ann Martin of Little Rock and Myra Martin of Morrilton; eight grandchildren, Lacey, Kyle and Sarah Burns, Joshua and wife Rebecca, Jordan and Mallory Mourot, Jared and wife Kelly and Samantha Tomlinson; one great-grandchild, Greer M. Tomlinson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Morrilton at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Collins.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers were J.H. Allison, W.O. Byrd, Lloyd Cupp, Charles Eddy, James Morrow, and Frank Sutterfield, the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, the Audra Basham Guild, and Avon representatives. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Chestnut St., Morrilton AR 72110.

Stacey Johnson
Stacey Lynn Johnson, 40, of Damascus died Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

He was born Oct. 30, 1966, in Morrilton to William “Bill’ Burton Johnson and Carol Lee Crowder. He was a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Kristy Johnson; one daughter, Kelsea Ellington of Damascus; two sons, Jordan Lynn Johnson and Michael Jarred Johnson, both of Damascus; mother, Carol Lee Logan of Shreveport, La.; three sisters, Shelia Smith of Springfield, Shannon Cole of Little Rock, and Sherry Morgan of Fredericksburg, Va.; grandfather, Melvin Crowder of Springfield; and stepfather Louis Huett of Conway.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Damascus with Elder Vernon Lee and Bro. Robert Williams officiating. Burial was in Blackwell Cemetery in Bee Branch by Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Greenbrier.

Pallbearers were Roger Hutchins, Mike Walters, Randy Payne, Richard Prince, Robert Prince, and Nicky Laster. Honorary pallbearers were Brothers Wesley Dugger, Ronnie Hughes, Gerald Holland, Sonny Thompson, Gary Boyett, and Steve Clemens.

Paul Henry
Paul F. Henry, 74, of Morrilton died Monday, May 14, 2007.

He was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Tishomingo, Miss., a son of Ira Fletcher Henry and Maggie Alabama Delila (Coats) Henry. He was a truck driver, an Army veteran, and former elder at Harding Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene (Beals) Henry; four sons, Greg Henry of Dixon, Tenn., Kenneth R. Henry of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Carl F. Henry and Jordan Fleetwood, both of Morrilton; five daughters, Pam Senter of Tupelo, Miss., Paula Eck of Houston, Texas, Lorene Horton of Florissant, Mo., Althea Ferren of Vilonia, and Delila Henry of Jacksonville; one brother, O.C. Henry of Dennis, Miss.; one sister, Edith Hutchison of Tupelo, Miss.; mother-in-law, Sarah Tumbleson of Morrilton; and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services were 8 a.m. Friday at the Harris Chapel with Mr. Charles Bane officiating. Burial was at the Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery in North Little Rock, at 11 a.m. by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Marie Dixon
Marie Dixon, 89, of Springfield, died Saturday, May 12, 2007.

Born in Center Ridge on Sept. 27, 1917, she was a daughter of Alvin and Mae (Oliger) Polk. She was the widow of Olen Dixon. she was a farmer, and a former seamstress for the Levi Strauss Company in Morrilton. Mrs. Dixon was a member of the Church Of Christ.

Survivors include four sons, Ed Dixon, Jim Dixon, and Rod Dixon, all of Center Ridge, and Ray Dixon of Cabot; two daughters, Vivian Williams of Morrilton and Jean Miller of Lakeland, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grandview Church of Christ with interment at the Grandview Cemetery by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home, Morrilton.

Eugene Shumate
Eugene Alvin Shumate, 84, of Solgohachia, died Sunday May 20, 2007.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1922, in Greenbrier, a son of Alvin Ross Shumate and Verna (Potts) Shumate. He was a self employed cattle farmer and raised fox hounds. He was a World War II veteran where he was McArthur’s head cook. He was the widower of Azalee Shumate.
survivors include two sons, Eddie Shumate of Eatonton, Ga., and Raymond Shumate of Sevierville, Tenn.; one brother, A.R. Shumate of Missouri; one sister, Shirley K. Ragsdale of Missouri; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Bob Neal and Sons Chapel in Morrilton with Jonathan Lee Shumate and Eddie Gene Shumate officiating. Burial will be at McNew Cemetery near Greenbrier. Services and arrangements by Bob Neal at Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Eula Sledge
Eula Mealer Sledge, 98, of Morrilton, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007.
She was born at Cleveland, Ark., on Jan. 20, 1909, to Ervin L. and Caroline (Johnson) Mealer. In November 1927 she married Carlos R. Sledge and they were married for 62 years until his death in February 1990.

She was a faithful member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Morrilton until she moved to a retirement home in Little Rock several years ago because of failing health.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southern Christian Home or the Downtown Church of Christ.
Survivors are her children, Carlene (Thomas) Guthier of Statesville, N.C., Norma Glover of Pine Bluff, David (Pauline) Sledge of Little Rock, and Bobby Sledge of Sonora, Calif.; grandchildren, Timothy Guthier of Cortland, N.Y., Karen Burkeen of Yadkinville, N.C., Vicki Warren of Cabot, Ark., Janet (Kenneth) Sutterfield of Maumelle, Ark., Philip (Michele) Glover of Little Rock, and Robert (Jennifer) Sledge of Sonora, Calif., 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, plus several nieces and cousins and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers and sisters, (William, Ivan, Ray and Vernon Mealer, Ruby Keller Lackey and Doris Culver), as well as her son-in-law, Kenneth Glover, daughter-in-law, Ida Ceretto Sledge, grandson, Clayton Warren, and grandson-in-law, E.E. “Bo” Warren.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at the Harris Chapel with Mr. Randy Rankin officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Phillip Glover, Kenneth Sutterfield, Ragan Sutterfield, Spencer Sutterfield, Ray Ellis and Pete Newman.
Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Leroy Payne
Leroy Linzy Payne, 82, of Center Ridge, died Monday, June 18, 2007.

He was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Ola, a son of Leonard Payne and Hattie Payne. He was a farmer and handyman. Mr. Payne was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Payne of Lehigh, Okla.; and five sisters, Frankie Wilson of Ola, Elizabeth Pitts of Ola, Ruby Jo Taylor of South Carolina, Cathy Campbell of Tennessee, and Rosie Swaffar of Morrilton.

A memorial service will be held privately by the family.

Gladys Hesselbein
Gladys Hesselbein, 91, of Malvern, died Monday, June 18, 2007.

She was born July 2, 1915, in Center Ridge, the daughter of Cary and Martha (Mitchell) Kissire. She was a member of the South Side Church of Christ in Hot Springs and the widow of Thomas Frelion Hesselbein.

Survivors include one son, Tom Hesselbein of Little Rock; three daughters, Pat James of Fort Worth, Texas, Christine Adler of Camarillo, Calif., and Shirleen Eslick of Greenwood, S.C.; one sister, Esta Mae Kuttle of Morrilton; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday at 10 a.m. in the Regency Funeral Home Chapel in Malvern. The Rev. David Moore officiated. Interment was at Rockport Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Mike James, Ron Eslick, Brad Hesselbein, Michael James, and Ken James.

Elizabeth Thomas
Elizabeth “Betty” Thomas, 79, of Perryville died Monday, June 18, 2007.

She was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Fulton, Ky., a daughter of Charles A. Price and Marjorie (Carpenter) Price. She was the widow of J.B. Thomas, a retired path-ologist and of the Catholic faith.

There were no immediate survivors.

Memorial services were 1 p.m. Sunday at Harris Brake Lake Pier on Highway 300 East, Perryville. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Memorials may be made to: Serenity House for Women Building Fund, 2801 W. Roosevelt Road, Little Rock AR 72204.

Tommy B. Lewis
Tommy B. Lewis, 77, of Conway died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in Little Rock.

Born April 25, 1930, in Shirley, Ark., he was the son of the late Charlie and Mary Compton Lewis. Mr. Lewis was the retired owner of Lewis Livestock Auction in Conway.

His wife, Carolyn Jones Lewis; a son, Bill Lewis and wife Becky; and a daughter, Mary Lewis survive him. Other survivors include two grandsons, Cody Lewis and wife Sarah and Heath Lewis; a step-granddaughter Ericka Mauldin; a great-granddaughter, Mallory Lewis; and special friends, Audie Alumbaugh and Charles Buddy Baird.

Services, under the direction of Roller McNutt Funeral home, were 10 a.m. on Friday, June 22, at The Church Alive in Conway.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the following churches: The Church Alive, Springhill Baptist Church, and Needs Creek Baptist Church.
