Johnnie Burnett
Johnnie Scroggin Burnett, 90, of North Little Rock, died July 29, 2007, at the Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Morrilton, Ark., to the late Manuel and Maude Scroggin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Burnett; two brothers, Earl and Doyle Scroggin; and sisters, Bess Scroggins, Muriel Prince, Jean Lemley, and Margaret Nyberg.

Johnnie is survived by her son, Raymond “Butch” Burnett and his wife Dianne of Little Rock; granddaughter, Stacy Mallett and her husband Kevin of Sherwood; great-granddaughters, Ashleigh and Leigh Ann Mallett; and sister, Dean Cupp of Morrilton.

Graveside service was 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Rest Hills Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. David Scroggin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Highland Valley United Methodist Church, 15524 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock AR; or Little Rock Christian Academy, P.O. Box 17450, Little Rock AR.

Etta Koone
Etta Koone, 96, of Morrilton, died Monday, July 30, 2007.

She was born Oct. 9, 1910, at Rupert, to John B. and Estella E. Goates. She was the widow of Gus Koone.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Creach of Louisiana, Bonnie Pack of Atkins, and Euta Casto of Morrilton; 23 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was 10 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Rupert with the Rev. Lyle Koone officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.

Pallbearers were Johnny Creach, Wayne Koone, Ronnie Pack, Terry Gardner, Jeff Edwards and Greg Pack.

Royce Koone
Royce G. Koone, 75, of Morrilton, died Monday, July 30, 2007.

He was born April 18, 1932, at Alread, the son of Gus and Etta (Goates) Koone. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War, and also an owner/operator of a grocery story and a farmer. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Koone; children, Janis James of Little Rock, Marilyn Koone of South Carolina, and Marvin Koone of Plumer-ville; three sisters, Lois Creach of Louisiana, Bonnie Fay Pack of Atkins, and Euta Casto of Morrilton; mother, Etta Koone of Atkins; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were 10 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Rupert with Lyle Koone and Donnie Love officiating. Arrangements were by Roller McNutt of Clinton.

Pallbearers were Jason Brooks, Justin Brooks, Jeremy Koone, Bob Millsap, Bobby Joe Love, Allen Edwards and Derek Doty. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Millsap, James Millsap and Sherman Millsap.

W.O. ‘Dub’ Byrd
W.O. “Dub” Byrd, 76, of Morrilton, Ark., passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2007.

He was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Oppelo, Ark., a son of the late Wilmer Byrd and Marring (Gentry) Byrd.

Mr. Byrd was the owner, manager and salesman for Tri State Enterprises in Fort Smith, Ark., as well as River City Distributors in North Little Rock. He served on many boards during his life including South Conway County School Board, Conway County Regional Water Distribution District, Petit Jean State Bank and Morrilton Housing Authority. “Dub” was also a member of the Jaycees, as well as First United Methodist Church where he also was an usher and Staff Parish Relations Committee chairman.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bobbye (Nisler) Byrd of Morrilton; son, Andy Byrd of Morrilton; daughter, Martha Frits and husband Drew of Conway; dear friend Ruby Lafayette of Morrilton; sister, Johnnie Epperson of Little Rock; sister-in-law, Jackie Simms of Morrilton; grandchildren, Lucinda Dorminy and husband Sean of Dallas, Texas, Rob Frits and wife Laney of Dallas, Texas, Christy Norwood and husband Brad of Springdale, Ark., and Andrew Frits of Tucson, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey Anne and Laurel Dorminy and Landon Frits.

The family would like to express a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at St. Anthony’s Healthcare, as well as the caregivers, Ruby Lafayette, Susan Salard, Bonita Williams, Amber Trezvant, Polly Klamm, and Linda Womack, who helped them throughout his recent illness.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at the Morrilton First United Methodist Church. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were James Miller, Tristan Taylor, Hal Hammett, John Beck, Woody Beck and George Beck.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Conway County Center for Exceptional Children at 109 Strait St., Morrilton AR 72110 and First United Methodist Church of Morrilton.

Mable Stout
Mable Lee Torbert Stout, 80, of Hattieville, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007.

She was born in the Old Hickory Community of Hattieville, Ark., a daughter of Bevley Torbert and Hester (Goodall) Torbert. She was a retired bookkeeper, past member of St. Anthony’s Hospital Auxiliary and a member of Old Hickory Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Stout of Conway; two sons, Bob Short and wife Brenda of Russellville and Danny Short of Atkins; two daughters, Loretta Coffman and husband Ray and Jennifer Short, all of Morrilton; one brother, Charles Torbert and wife Lois of Hattieville; one sister, Ella Mae Jones of Hattieville; six grandchildren, Debra Barnett and Jason Short, both of Russellville, Jeani Fisher of Hot Springs, Tim Short and Greg Short, both of Atkins, Alison Burch of Morrilton; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by first husband, Melvin Eugene Short; second husband, George Wesley Cooper; and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Short.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Harris Chapel with Bro. Ken Gipson and Bro. Bobby Holyfield officiating. Burial was at Old Hickory Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were Clayton Jones, Shawn Sample, Brigham Jones, Brigham Jones Jr., Steve Harris and Benny Williams.

Memorials may be made to: Old Hickory Cemetery Fund, 19 Henry St., Morrilton AR 72110.

Margie Brown
Margie (McAlister) Brown, 78, of Plumerville died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007.

She was born June 18, 1929, in Parkdale, a daughter of Fred and Velma (Curtis) McAlister.

Survivors include one son, Jerry M. Brown of Plumerville; two daughters, Beverly (Brown) Greer of Bossier City, La., and Christie Brown of Plumerville; three brothers, Fred McAlister of Jones, La., George McAlister of Riverside, Calif., and William McAlister of Whitehall; eight sisters, Emily Goetz, Marilyn Spurlock, and Mary Hufftey of Star City, Billie Novak of Clearwater, Fla., Glenda Greer of Phoenix, Ariz., Donnie King of El Paso, Texas, and Brenda Isgar of Glendora, Calif., and Elaina Greer; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Plumerville with Bro. Robert Greene of Star City officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Home Care Foundation, 1501 N. University, Suite 340, Little Rock, AR 72207 or the Humane Society of Faulkner County, P.O. Box 1055, Conway, AR 72033. Cremation arrangements were by Rosewood Cremation of Arkansas.

Willo Furr
Willo Dean (Caldwell) Furr, 77, of Atkins, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007.

Born April 13, 1930, in Leachville, she was the daughter of John and Effie (Melton) Caldwell. She was the widow of Roy Lee Furr.

Survivors include four sons, John William Furr of Pennsylvania, Dannis Lee Furr of California, Vernon Ray Furr of Arkansas, and Douglas Wayne Furr of Oregon; three daughters, Patsy Marie Buchanan of Hattiesville, and Val Gene Daniels and Gloria Elaine Shafer, both of Atkins; two sisters, Leola Linker of Mountain View and Leavern Hope of Fort Smith; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a few great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was 11 a.m. Thursday at Goats Bluff cemetery at Hollis by Lemley Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Wilbourn officiating.

Pallbearers were Royce Magers, David Dosier, Brain Dosier, Tim Furr, Dennis Shafer, and Orvil Buchanan.

‘Randy’ Holland
William Randolph “Randy” Holland, 61, of Blackwell, passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Randy Holland was born on Feb. 28, 1946, in Morrilton, Ark. He graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1964 and from the University of Arkansas in 1971.

He enlisted in the military in 1963, as a 17 year old private, and retired in 2005 as a colonel. During his career, he amassed more than 4,700 hours flying helicopters and received numerous honors and awards, including induction in the Arkansas National Guard Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame.

An avid hunter, fisherman, and farmer, Holland worked for several years early in his career as an independent sales representative in the outdoor sports industry. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrilton and the Arkansas Army Aviation Association.

Holland is survived by his wife, Leslie Tutt Holland; two children, William Holland of Fayetteville and Sarah Holland of Washington D.C.; two nieces, Terra Holland and Erin and Jason Avila, all of Rogers; a great nephew, Tristan Avila of Rogers; brother-in-law, Stuart Tutt of Monticello; sister-in-law, Robin Oliver of Mason, Ohio; mother-in-law, Mary Gail Tutt of Little Rock, Ark.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gene Holland and Glenna (Mahan) Holland; two sisters, Barbara McGinnis and Deborah Westenhaver; and a brother, David Michael Holland.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Agee, David Benson, Kevin Best, Ronnie Danenhower, Mike Drinkwater, Steve Hime, Eddie Johnson, Kenneth Jones, Dick and Mickey Mahan, Larry Mahan, Mack Tubb, and Bill Wofford.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Morrilton. A reception followed at The Rock Community Center in Blackwell.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arkansas Cancer Research Center at UAMS, First Presbyterian Church of Morrilton, or Arkansas Hospice.

Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

‘Jock’ Heaggans
Henry Albert “Jock” Heaggans, 78, of Plumerville died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007.

He was born May 16, 1929, in Morrilton, a son of Morgan George Heaggans and Maeola (Reese) Heaggans. He retired from Virco Mfg. Corp. He was a member of the Spring Valley Baptist Church and a Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Heaggans; one daughter, Velva Tillman of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, Raymond Heaggans of Maumelle, Gary Heaggans of Conway, and Ron Johnson of Grandview, Mo.; four sisters, Ruthie Wrather of Little Rock, Erseline Newsome of Kansas City, Mo., and Jewel Morris and Gertrude Black, both of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Elbert Heaggans of Morrilton and Jerry Heaggans of Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday at the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Menifee. Interment was at Spring Valley Cemetery by Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Jeffrey Hogan
Jeffrey Hogan, 43, of Morrilton died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007.

He was born Sept. 19, 1963, in East Saint Louis, Ill., a son of Robert Hogan and Bonnie (Biver) Hogan. He was a houseparent for Southern Christian Home and member of Harding Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Lynne (Hopson) Hogan; son, Michael Hogan and daughter, Mariah Hogan, both of the home; mother, Bonnie Hogan of Mauriceville, Texas; two sisters, Christina Hogan and April Kilpatrick, both of Mauriceville, Texas.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Harding Street Church of Christ with Charles Bane officiating. Burial was at Old Salem Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were Antonio Baca, Stephen Zogal, Andrew Scott, Jim Bess, Charles Camp, and Randall Hopson.

Thelma Uren
Thelma Marie Hubbard Uren, 92, of Morrilton, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007.

She was born March 9, 1915, at Cleveland, a daughter of Amos Green McElroy and Pearl Elizabeth (Byrd) McElroy. Mrs. Uren was retired from Crompton Mills and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Andrew Uren; two daughters, Ruth Elam and Louise Grantham, both of Morrilton; one son, Ray Risner of Panama City, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Thursday at Harris Chapel with Jay Crow officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were A.G. McElroy, David McElroy, T.J. McElroy, Andy Uren, and Benny Kissire.

Richard Chamberlain
Richard Chamberlain, 79, of Oppelo, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1928, in Bonham, Texas, a son of William Luther Chamberlain and Donnie Elizabeth (Sturgess) Chamberlain. He was a former truck driver for Nabholz Construction and worked with his son Tom at First Impressions Sign Co. He was the widower of Laverne Chamberlain.

Survivors include three sons, Tom Chamberlain of Oppelo, and Richard Chamberlain and William Lewis Chamberlain, both of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Renee O’Connell of St. Louis; three sisters, Juanita Davis of Sherman, Texas, Ruby Burns of Conway, and Janice Roberson of Thorndale, Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday at 10 a.m. with internment at Wolf Cemetery by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.

‘Bud’ Caldwell
L.G. “Bud” Caldwell of Little Rock died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007.

He was born April 7, 1918, in Rose Bud, a son of Gordon and Melinda (Selvedge) Caldwell. He worked for Coleman Dairy and retired from Foremost McKesson Inc. After retirement he worked on his son’s farm. He was the widower of Nollie (Penrod) Caldwell.

Survivors include a son, Harry Caldwell of St. Vincent; one brother, Elbert Caldwell of Little Rock; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, at Center Point Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Interment was in Center Point Cemetery by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.
