Opal Wallace
Opal Faye (Kuhn) Wallace, 75, of Searcy died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at her home after a short battle with cancer.
She was born April 7, 1930, in Caraway to Hazel (Hamilton) Kuhn and Robert Walter Kuhn. She was the widow of Lambert M. Wallace. She was a graduate of Southern Baptist (now Williams) College in Walnut Ridge and had done graduate studies at Arkansas State University and the University of Central Arkansas. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Mack Wallace of Maumelle; two daughters, Madonna Smith of Calhoun, Ga., and Rhonda Chat-ham of Stuttgart; two sisters, Eunice Ashabranner of Searcy and Hazel Whistle of Mountain Home; and four grandsons.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Friday at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy with burial at Smyers Cemetery
in Aplin.
The family has requested memorials be made to Southern Christian Home in Morrilton; Harding University; or Hospice Home Care.
Lucy Zarlingo
Lucy Zarlingo, age 99, of Catholic Point, died December 31, 2005.
She was born May 14, 1906, in Center Ridge, Arkansas, a daughter of Matt Lanni and Elizabeth (Fabrizio) Lanni. She was a homemaker, member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and the widow of James V. Zarlingo. Lucy loved to garden, fish and enjoyed making spaghetti for family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary E. Horak of Center Ridge; granddaughter, Sharon Paladino, and special friend, Dave Beck, of Chicago, Ill.; sister, Marie Freyaldenhoven of Conway; sisters-in-law, Carmella and Le-via Lannie, both of Illinois, Margaret Lanni of Morrilton, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dona DePasqua and Mary Oulehla, and four brothers, Joseph Lanni, Nick Lanni, Dan Lanni, and Leonard Lanni.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. today (Wednesday), Jan. 4, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father John Yates and Father Char-les Thessing officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery
by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers will be Pat DePasqua, Joe Allison, Michael Paladino, Paul Freyaldenhoven, Paul McManus, and Blane Stanley.
Billy Polk
Billy James Polk, age 70, of Oppelo, Arkansas, died Thursday, September 1, 2005.
He was born January 31, 1935, in Center Ridge, Arkansas, a son of Velmer and Lizzie Johnson Polk. Mr. Polk was a farmer, member of the First Baptist Church of Firebaugh, California, and a member of the ACA Rodeo Association.
Survivors include his daughters, Vicki Polk Holcomb of Little Rock and Heather Polk of Oppelo; brothers and wives, Bob and Virginia Polk of Overcup and Carl and Ida Polk of Oppelo; grandchildren, Charlie and Kevin Riedmueller, Cody Kendrick, and Casey Jones; great-grandson, Ryan Riedmueller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2 p.m., Saturday, September 3, at the Harris Chapel with Bro. Dennis Holmes officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery
near Center Ridge by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Dub Williams, Steve Atkinson, Cory Kirk, David Latimer, Scott Polk, and Tom Green. Honorary pallbearers were Jim “Heavy” Koonce, Harvey Pettit, Carl Grabber, Lindon Sigler, and Darrel Sanders.
John Summers
John David Summers, 71, of North Little Rock, died at his home Monday, Sept. 5, 2005.
He was born on June 12, 1934, in Perry, a son of Ed and May Summers. He was a retired warehouse supervisor who served in the Army during the 
Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Kay Andrews of Alexander and Lisa Diane Summers of Little Rock; two sons, Rick Lynn Summers of Plumerville and Dewayne Summers of Smithville, Tenn.; one brother, Willie Bob Summers of Perry; one sister, Mae Ruth Turner of Atkins; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Perry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight (Wednesday) at the funeral home. Services and arrangements are by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Madeline Shannon
Madeline Autrey Shannon, 79, of Morrilton, died Friday, April 1, 2005.
She was born in Formosa, March 9, 1926, a daughter of Lewis and Cora (Bowling) Autrey. She was of the Baptist faith and the widow of Robert Shannon.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Shannon of Greybull, Wyo., and Alan Shannon of Joplin, Mo.; one brother, Weyman Autrey of Manville, Texas; four sisters, Bernice Potisuk of Kent, Ohio, Lorene Raw of Winter Park, Fla., Coralee Davis of Meeker, Okla., and Wanda Halverson of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was at the Friendship Cemetery
at Solgohachia. Services and arrangements were by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home, Morrilton.
Tommy Waid
Tommy Ray Waid, 42, of North Little Rock died Saturday, April 2, 2005.
He was the son of the late Wendell Waid.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Waid; one son, T.J. Waid of North Little Rock; mother, Anita (Sloss) Waid of North Little Rock; and one brother, Allen Waid of Mount Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the Chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 W. 12th. St., Little Rock, with the Rev. Jim King officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Wilma Maurer
Wilma M. Maurer, 93, of Morrilton, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004.
A daughter of Otis Summers and Mamie Summers, she was born in Luther, Iowa, on June 4, 1911. She was of the Methodist faith and the widow of Carl H. Maurer.
Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Maxwell of Morrilton.
Graveside service was 3 p.m., Saturday at the Kilgore Cemetery
near Birdtown. Services and arrangements were by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home, Morrilton.
Sue Plaxco
Sue Ellen Plaxco, 79, of Little Rock died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004.
She was a charter member of Plainview Baptist Church and was retired from Pulaski County School District. She was the widow of John R. Plaxco.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Trombley of Hensley; one son, Michael Plaxco of Corinth, Texas; one brother, Odell Hamilton of Little Rock; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral service was 10 a.m. Thursday at Plainview Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Webb officiating. Graveside service was at Hamilton Cemetery
at Adona by Roller-Drummond Funeral Home Southwest.
Billy Lucas
Billy Fred Lucas, 70, of Springfield died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
He was born at Martinville, on March 17, 1932, a son of Rufas Jackson Lucas and Clyde Ann Finney Lucas. He was a retired engineer for AT&T and an Air Force veteran of the
Korean War. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Martinville, and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Weda Lucas; two sons, David Lucas of Springfield and Steve Lucas of Greenbrier; one daughter, Sharlene Mourot of Springfield; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday at the Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Morrilton. Interment will follow at the Springfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services are by Bob Neal and Sons of Morrilton.
Alvina Benish
Alvina Benish, age 92, of Little Rock, died Friday, November 29, 2002. She was born in Hazen, Arkansas later graduating from now Lyon’s College in Batesville. Besides teaching school Alvina was a court stenographer and credit manager. She moved to Little Rock in the 50s.
She is survived by her great-niece, Casandra Taylor of Little Rock.
There will be a graveside funeral service Wednesday at 2 P.M. at Forest Hills Cemetery
officiated by Reverend Gregory T. Luyet. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Baptist Health Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock.
Emma Louise French Ford Byrd
Emma Louise French Ford Byrd, age 89, of Little Rock, died January 11, 2003. She was born in Perry, Arkansas. She was a graduate of City Business College, the Draughon Business School and became a stenographer for the United State Government. She was active with the St. Vincent Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church where she was a member the Ladies Alter Society. She was also a member of the Little Rock Scripture Study Group, the Abby Retreat League, Coury House at Subiaco, a member of Cursillo #22 and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Frank Byrd who died in 1976, two stepsons; William F. Byrd, Jr., and Charles Robert Byrd, and her son Elbert Hugh Ford. She is survived by one daughter-in-law Joan Ford Collierville, Tennessee, two sisters Mary Elizabeth Roberts of Lexington, South Carolina, Helen Hayes of Mabelvale, one brother, Elder T. French and wife Billie of Benton, 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchild.
There will be a visitation Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 7 P.M. There will a Mass of Christian burial Tuesday at 11 A.M. at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under he direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
Robert Leake Dortch. Jr.
Robert Leake Dortch. Jr., age 72, died on November 25, 2002. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, July 26, 1930, to Robert Leake Dortch and Katherine Morton Dortch. Both grandparents on his paternal side were pioneers who had plantations in Lonoke and Pulaski Counties, the one well known Marlsgate. He attended grade school in Little Rock and Culver military Academy in Culver, Indiana, where he was Officer in charge of Artillery.
Dortch received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1953 at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He served as Cadet Colonel of Army R.O.T.C., President of Scabbard and Blade, and Chaplain of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
In 1953 he married Mary Jane Watkins. He joined his father in a large farming operation, seed company, cotton gin, and dryer in Scott, Arkansas.
A devout Christian, his family attended Christ Episcopal Church of Little Rock, Arkansas, where he served on the Vestry.
In 1980 the family moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and built a tourist railroad, the E.S. and N.A. Railway.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter Nancy McKinley of DeWitt, Arkansas, three sons Robert of Eureka Springs, David of Phoenix, Arizona, and John of Fayetteville, Arkansas, also a granddaughter Mary Katherine and grandson Edward McKinley of DeWitt, five sisters Roberta Fulkerson, Polly Davis, Virginia Dorazio, Floride Rebsamen, King Dobbins, and one brother George Dortch.
There will be a visitation Friday, November 29th, from 12 to 2 P.M. at Ruebel Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 2:30 P.M. at the Oakland Cemetery
Mausoleum, Little Rock, officiated by The Reverend Larry Benfield. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home. Donations may be made to your favorite charity or a memorial fund for a plaque through the Bank of Eureka Springs.
Jeane Dorough Hundley
Jeane Dorough Hundley, of Little Rock, died Thursday, December 5, 2002. She was a 5th Generation member of an Arkansas Pioneer family with origins in County Cork, Ireland and Wittlesburg, Germany. She attended Little Rock schools and two years at Little Rock Jr. College (now UALR) before meeting her future husband, Dr. Louis King Hundley, who was completing his medical residency at Ark. Children's Hospital. They were married in Little Rock in 1933. They moved to Kansas, where Dr. Hundley did post-doctoral research at the Prince Eye Clinic in Kansas before becoming an Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist. Subsequently, Dr. Hundley served four years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps before the Hundleys made their home in Pine Bluff at the end of World War II. They resided there for 21 years, during which time they were both active in many charitable and Fine Arts Groups. They were members of the Pine Bluff Country Club and on the Board of Directors of the Pine Bluff Community Concert Association. Dr. and Mrs Hundley, with their daughters, belonged to Lakeside Methodist Church and were teachers of the Rev. L.E.N. Hundley Sunday School where Dr. Hundley's father once served as Pastor. They returned to Little Rock in 1964, and Dr. Hundley was a member of the Department of Ophthalmology clinical faculty at UAMS until his death in 1966.
Mrs. Hundley was a devoted homemaker and, at the same time, used her considerable talents
in support of her husband's medical profession. She had a long and devoted volunteer career with many local, state and national charitable organizations. She served on the Boards of Directors for the National Association for Infantile Paralysis, President of the Auxiliary of the Southern Medical Association, Arkansas Medical Auxiliary, Jefferson County Medical Society, and the Pine Bluff Junior Auxiliary. Volunteer efforts with crippled children and in organizing volunteers for the Salk polio vaccine field trials in Arkansas earned her an Arkansas Traveler Certificate from Governor Faubus and a citation from Dr. Jonas Salk for outstanding work with the Polio Foundation. Additionally, she was cited for her outstanding contribution to the Arkansas Academy of Family Practice.
After the death of her husband in 1966, Mrs. Hundley was Executive Director of the Arkansas Caduceus Club since its inception in 1969. Former Dean of Medicine, the late Winston K. Shorey, envisioned a campus clearing house for professional and alumni relations and
appointed Mrs. Hundley to direct its organization, which she did until she retired at the age of 75. She was a member of the Little Rock Alumni Club of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, a Sustaining Member of the Little Rock Junior League, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Society and the Little Rock Chamber Music Society.
Survivors include:
two daughters, Nancy Hundley McKenzie, widow of Dr. Charles Norman McKenzie, of Little Rock and Kay Hundley Fisher, wife of Robert Martin Fisher of San Francisco; grand-daughter, Leslie McKenzie Santillo, her husband Jerry Santillo of Atlanta; grandsons Robert M. Fisher, Jr. and wife, Susan Armacost Fisher of London, England, William Louis Fisher of Burlingame, Calif., and Gregory Andrew Fisher and wife, Yvonne Kiggens Fisher of Kentfield, Calif. Mrs. Hundley was Great Grandmother to seven children. One brother, William Murphy Dorough and his wife, Frances Shimek Dorough live in Little Rock Their daughter, Mrs. Hundley's niece, Ann Dorough, and her husband, Greg Uekman reside in Maryland.
Mrs. Hundley remained an ardent Razorback fan, bridge player, world traveler. She continued to enjoy her myriad friendships with people of all ages, for whom she enjoyed entertaining in her home throughout her life. Her collection of antiques reflected her family which has been in Arkansas for seven generations. Mrs. Hundley was a resident at Parkway Village and a member of Little Rock First United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. at Graceland Cemetery
in Pine Bluff officiated by Reverend Jeanie Burton, followed by a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church of Little Rock, at 3 P.M. Tuesday, December 12th. Honorary Pallbearers include: Winston Faulkner, Dr. Randall Hundley, John Gill, Danny Thomas, Clint Burleson, Wayne Cranford, Dr. Harry Ward, Dr. John Schock and Gordon Wittenberg. Funeral arrangements by Ruebel Funeral Home.
A reception for Mrs. Hundley's family will be held immediately following the services In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be sent to First United Methodist Church or Baptist Hospital Hospice.
Phil Price
Phil Price, 70, of Maumelle went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2003. He was born in Bryan, TX, on October 16, 1932. Survivors are his wife, Marge; daughter, Susan, and her husband, Darrell Powell; and their children, Allison and Shawn of Azle, TX; his sister, Linda, and her husband, Jack Crawford of Irving, TX; a niece, Pam, and her husband Eugene Oard; and a nephew, Russell Rubac and his wife, Susan. He was preceded in death by his son, David. After graduating from Texas A&M University, he was a civil engineer in Texas and California from 1954-1967, with two years, serving as an officer with the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He remained a member of the Texas A&M University Former Student Association until death. From 1967-1983 he served on staff with Campus Crusade. He was a pastor at Christ Community Church in Omaha, Nebraska, from 1983-1989. As pastor at Fellowship Bible Church in Little Rock, he encouraged many people from 1990-1995. In 1995 he and Marge retired to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where he continued to disciple men.
Visitation will be from 5-7p.m. Friday, January 31, at Ruebel Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in the Special Events Center at Fellowship Bible Church at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 1, with David Bruns and Ray Williams officiating. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery
in Fort Worth, TX, on Monday, February 3, at 11:00 a.m. with the Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, Jim Edwards officiating. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of New Hope Baptist Church, 782 New Hope Rd., Boyd, TX 76023 and Bethany Christian Services, 1100 North University Av., Little Rock, AR 72207 Arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.
