Mary L. Daniels

Mary L. Daniels, 33, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born Sept. 27, 1970, in Paragould.

She was a homemaker and attended Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Cobb; and one brother, Larry Cobb.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Daniels of the home, one stepson, Tim Daniels of Paragould; three daughters, Jessica Turner, Rebecca Turner and Amanda Turner, all of Paragould; two stepdaughters, Kay Daniels and Nikki Daniels, both of Paragould; her father, Leroy Cobb of Lafe; one brother, James Cobb of Lafe; and three sisters, Julie Cobb and Janet Masterson, both of Marmaduke, and Linda Grady of Paragould.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Knot Church of Christ with Larry McFadden and Topper Killough officiating.

Burial was at Pine Knot Cemetery near Paragould under the direction Irby Funeral Home.

Jacqueline Hart Fitzgerald Hopkins

Jacqueline Hart Fitzgerald Hopkins, 78, of Woburn, Mass., formerly of Paragould, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Lexington Health Care Center in Lexington, Mass.

She was born in Paragould, but lived many years in Woburn.

She was a graduate of Paragould High School and a retired project analyst for Hanscom Air Force Base in Lexington.

She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Dean Hopkins.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela R. Curtin of Woburn; two grandsons, Joel and Jeremy Curtin; and one great-grandchild, Andrew Joel Curtin.

Funeral and visitation are private and under the direction of Lane Funeral Home of Winchester, Mass.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 147 Berkeley St., Boston, Mass., 02116.

Jessie Marie Jackson

Jessie Marie Jackson, 76, of Paragould, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born July 13, 1927, in Lake City. She was employed as a shipping clerk at Frolic Shoe Factory in Jonesboro and was a member of West View Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Larry Joyner; her parents, Monroe and Maggie Carter Glass; one son, Danny Taylor; one brother, Lenzie Glass; and one sister, Gladys Davis.

Survivors include her husband, James Jackson of the home; one son, Terry Taylor of Hot Springs; one sister, Lorene Harris of Jonesboro; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Winn officiating. Burial will be in Upper Cain Island Cemetery in Lake City under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jewel T. Duckworth

Jewel T. Duckworth, 76, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of the Rector area, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, in Hospice of the Valley in Mesa.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Irby Funeral Home of Rector.

James "Jim S." Carter

James "Jim S." Carter. 93, of Paragould, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1910, in Maynard. He was a mechanic with Mack West International, a member of First Church of God, and a World War II Army veteran, having served with the H/S Company 284th Engineer, Combat Battalion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Haughten and Jodie Ella Sellars Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Katie Barnett Carter; three nieces, Dorotha Mochel of Indiana, Cathy White of Weiner and Carol Mabile of Texas; and one nephew, J.C. Huddleston of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Gerald Conger, Mike Huffine, Andy Ritsmon, Jay Ritsmon, Billy Joe White and Carter Joe White.

Bulah Dobbins

Bulah Dobbins, 88, of Peach Orchard, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at her residence. She was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Hickoria. She was a homemaker and attended the Living Word Fellowship Church in Corning.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Dobbins; her parents, Rozetta Matilda (Corder) and Luther Dobbins; two brothers, Elmer Pence and Esco Pence; and two grandsons, Carl Thompson and Jason Dobbins.

Survivors include four sons, David Dobbins and Allen Walley, both of Peach Orchard, Raymond Dobbins of McDougal and Bill Dobbins of Corning; four daughters, Rozetta Thompson and Marie Malott, both of Peach Orchard, Loretta Osbon of Paragould and Carol Blanton of Corning; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with the Rev. Carmen Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Redenbo Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Donald Gene Spillman

Donald Gene Spillman, 75, of Paragould, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould. He was born Nov. 2, 1928, in Greene County. He was the retired owner of Spillman Construction. He attended the Church of Christ, was a former Deacon of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ and drove a church bus for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Nora Spillman; his wife, Ernestine Spillman; two brothers, David and Alton Spillman; and one nephew, Kenneth Eugene Spillman.

Survivors include one step-daughter and stepson-in-law, Lora and Phillip Swindle of Paragould; two nieces; two grandchildren, Devin Swindle of Pocahontas and Matthew Swindle of Paragould; and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Elijah Swindle of Pocahontas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel of Paragould with Bro. Phillip Swindle and Bro. Devin Swindle officiating. Burial will be at Pine Knott Cemetery of Paragould.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Memorials can be made to Children's Home Inc. of Paragould.

Von K. Starnes

Von K. Starnes, 88, of Blytheville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Marmaduke and was a Blytheville resident for 54 years. He worked in the trucking industry as a terminal manager and was a member and former elder of the 13th and Main Church of Christ. He was also a founder of the Blytheville Little League and served as a Little League coach. He enjoyed woodworking and trains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude C. and Clara May Starnes; one daughter, Dorothy Jacqueline Starnes; and one half-sister, Alyene Foster.

Survivors include his wife, Vestle Taylor Starnes of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Pat Allen of Tupelo, Miss., and Becky and Bruce Daniels of Blytheville; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Leah Starnes of Clinton, Miss.; three half-sisters, Mozelle Benson of Blytheville and Nancy Higginbotham and Jean Beatty, both of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandsons, Scott Allen of Bakersfield, Calif., Ronny Allen of Tupelo, Danny Daniels of Atlanta, Ga., Bryce Daniels of Auburn, Ala., and Reed Starnes of Clinton.; and four great-grandchildren, Tia Allen of Tupelo, Caleb Daniels and Leighton Daniels, both of Auburn, and Cody Allen of Bakersfield.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Helen L. Smith

Helen L. Smith, 80, of Garden City, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Haviland, Kan., the daughter of Glen and Erna Mae Plunkett Hecox. A resident of Garden City since 1994, moving from Liberal, Kan., she had been the owner and operator of both the Spudnut Shop and the Liberal Taxi Company for several years.

She was a member of the First Church of God, where she served as youth director and was a past Brownie and Scout Leader, all of Liberal. She was married to Alvin R. Smith in Meade, Kan., on April 18, 1942.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Raymond Hecox; and one sister, Vera Cargill.

She is survived by one son, Alvin Ross "Butch" Smith of Durango, Colo; two daughters, Glenda May Gramling of Paragould and Linda Lorraine Crain of Garden City; one brother, Vern Hecox of Tyrone, Okla.; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home at 620 N. Main, Garden City, Kansas, 67846.

Mabel Alberta May Greer

Mabel Alberta May Greer, 87, of Paragould, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Elgin. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Lee May; her second husband, Amos Greer; one son, Marvin Lee May; her parents, Walter and Mary Jane Hohn Burgess; one sister, Mamie Allen; one brother, Ted Burgess; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ryles of Hot Springs and Mary Lee Wycoff of Paragould;o two brothers, Alfred Burgess of Newport and Buddy Burgess of California, one sister, Ruby Dillon of Newport; four grandchildren, Kathy Boone and Keith Wycoff, both of Paragould, and Melody Hall and Zachary Ryles, both of Hot Springs; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Rev. Jim Bynum and the Rev. Leon Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers are Don Mandrell, Jerry Manley, Brian Sides, Bryan Hooten, Larry Hooten and Stacy Witcher.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lynn Humphrey

Lynn Humphrey, 49, of Paragould, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1954, in Paragould and was disabled.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vester Humphrey.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Humphrey of Paragould; his mother and stepfather, Jewel Dean and Joe Andrews of Paragould; one son, Tony McGhee; one stepson, Curtis Hall, of Paragould; one daughter, Jessica Hall of Paragould; three stepdaughters, Nikki Hall, Jennifer Breckenridge and Ambi Cross, all of Paragould; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy and Kathy Humphrey of Rector and Kenny and Sissy Humphrey of Little Rock; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathie and Mike Benson of Rector; and six grandchildren.

Friends and relatives wishing to attend a memorial service are to meet at 412 Bard Road East at 1:30 p.m. today. A riverside service is to be held at the Bard Trussle at 2 p.m.

Bessie Faye Tarpley

Bessie Faye Tarpley, 94, of Lafe, died June 3, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel of Rector.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m. tonight at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector.

Donald (Slim) Taylor

Donald (Slim) Taylor, age 93, of Rector, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab Center where he resided with his wife of 73 years, Elma Mae (Morrow) Taylor.

Born September 8, 1910, in the Boydsville area near Rector, Donald was the son of the late Luther Taylor and Elizabeth (Bateman) Taylor. Donald lived 85 years of his life in the Rector area and 18 years, 1941-1960, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Elma; two sons, Donald Duran Taylor of Crossville, Tennessee and Philip Autry Taylor of Pocahontas; one daughter, Guelda Jacquline (Taylor) Valmassoi of Rector, one daughter-in-law, Shirley Taylor of Pocahontas; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Elizabeth (Bateman) Taylor; six brothers; and one sister.

George Bearden will conduct the funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Irby Funeral Home in Rector. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 8 p.m. today, at Irby Funeral Home.

Marcia Lee Mack Yow

Marcia Lee Mack Yow, 66, of Jacksonville, Illinois formerly of Paragould died June 19, 2004, at the Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville. She was a 1955 Paragould High School Graduate and attended Monticello School for Women in Godfrey, Illinois. She was a homemaker and a former Aviation Insurance Representative for King Insurance Agency in Jacksonville. Marcia was a loving and devoted wife and mother and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Winston and Virginia Lee (Elder) Mack; one son, Harold Sterling Yow and one daughter, Laura Lee Yow.

She is survived by her husband, Homer H. Yow; sons, Steven Winston Yow and wife Becky of Ozark, Missouri; H. Allen Yow and wife Rasha of Jacksonville; daughter Marcia Linley Yow Donovan of Jacksonville; three sisters, Madelyn Mack of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Carolyn Williams and husband Mike of Auburn, Alabama and Beverly Hughey and husband Jack of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; and one great grandson.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Linwood Cemetery with Reverend David Moseley officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Modern Care Convalescent Facility in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Johnny Ray Abbott, Sr.

Johnny Ray Abbott, Sr., 61, of Paragould, died Thursday, August 5th, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born August 28, 1942, in Qulin, Missouri, he was the retired owner of Abbott's Pallet Material Mill of Paragould.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Claudine Abbott; one son, Johnny Ray Abbott, Jr. of Paragould; one daughter, Terry Taylor of Lafe; and five grandchildren, Nicholas Abbott of Paragould, and Tiffany Abbott, David Taylor, Sean Taylor and Bridgette Prince, all of Lafe. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Abbott of Dixie, Arkansas; and four sisters, Geraldine Rose of Brookland and Imagene Huffines, Debra Jones and Christine Halsell, all of Paragould.
