Matthew Naylor

HEAVENER -- Matthew Leon Naylor, infant son of Randy and Alice Naylor of Reichert, Okla., near Heavener, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in a Chicago hospital.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today in Reichert cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau.

He is survived by his grandparents, Burton and Wythema Naylor; great-grandmother, Beulah Nobles; and aunts and uncles, Karen and Bill Robertson, Russell, David and Tina Hoxit.

Perry Gammill

Perry Don Gammill, 63, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in a local hospital. He was retired from Rheem Manufacturing.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Monica Skinner of Hackett; two sons, Doug and Rodney, both of Fort Smith; a brother, James Richard Gammill of Manteca, Calif.; five grandchildren, Brent Albertson, Alexandra, Emily and Kurt Gammill, all of Fort Smith, Stephen Skinner of San Diego, Calif., and Michael Skinner of Van Buren; and a great-grandchild, Katarina Skinner.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Glass, Ricky Gavin, Scott and Shelby Orsbun, Ben and Benny Lairamore, Randy, Karry and Larry Dedmon.

Joseph Bruun

Joseph Gordon Bruun, 77, of Fort Smith, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in a local hospital. He was a graduate of Ohio State University, a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, served in World War II, a captain of Sub Chaser 724 Pacific Fleet, the retired office manager for T.J. Smith Box Company after 31 years of service, served the Vestry at St. John's Episcopal Church where he was a member, past president of the Fort Smith Broadway Theater League, active with the Fort Smith Little Theater and was also a member in the Patrol Craft Sailors Association.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 in St. John's Episcopal Church with burial at St. John's Episcopal Columbarium under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Lucile Hill of Fort Smith and Ann Elizabeth Bruun of Tulsa; and seven grandchildren, Tobey Pfleger, Haley and John Stafford, Kathryn Culbertson, Wynter, Siri and Monte Hill.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 215 North 6th, Fort Smith and Phillips Cancer Support House, 2510 Dodson Ave., Fort Smith, Ark., 72901.

Eula Ross

ALTUS -- Eula F. Ross, 87, of Altus, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in his home. He was a proprieter at Ross Grocery and a member of Altus Methodist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Houston cemetery in Alix under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark.

He is survived by four step-daughters, Nina Rinke, Betty St. Clair, Grace Turner and Patricia Gauert, all of Altus; a son, Robert of Altus; three step-sons, Gerald and Gordon, both of Altus, and Kenneth of Ozark; a sister, Onela Kirby of Altus; two grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Phillips, Bobby Jack Covert, Larry Covert, Wesley Williamson, Hubert West and Luke Ross.

The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Victoria Bradshaw

Victoria Bradshaw, 96, of Mountainburg died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the Locke Faith Assembly of God Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Locke Faith Assembly of God Church with burial at Locke cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

She is survived by her daughter, Mildred Scouden of Mountainburg; two sons, Louis and Arvle, both of Mountainburg; seven grandchildren, Sherry Garret of St. Louis, Mo., Carol Ainsworth of Fort Smith, Delaine Pinedo of Van Buren, Dewayne Scouden, Calvin Bradshaw and Joyce Robbins, all of Mountainburg, and Connie Anderson of Kibler; eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Bradshaw, Paul Pinedo, Tim Garrett, James Ainsworth, Thomas Robbins, Kenneth Hancock, Steve Anderson and Joe Roam.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Scouden, Frank and Wayne Parr, Raymond Allen, Norman Williams, Leonard Mosier and Brad Morris.

William Hawkins

OZARK -- William Hawkins, 67, of Ozark died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in a local hospital. He was a mechanic at Hawkins Westside Station and a veteran.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.

He is survived by his wife, Willa Dean Hawkins; a son, Chuck of Mulberry; two sisters, Vi Chitwood of Van Buren, and Gerri Dugan of Muskogee, Okla.; a brother, Fred of Muskogee; two grandchildren, Kaye Leigh Hawkins of Vernal, Utah, and Rachel Hawkins of Mulberry; and two great-grandchildren.

Barbara Covington

SALLISAW -- Barbara Kay Covington, 45, of Sallisaw, Okla., died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Fort Smith. She was a certified nurse's aide at Vian and Sallisaw nursing homes and a pentecostal.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Church of the Nazarene in Sallisaw with burial at the Garden of Memories cemetery in Vian under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.

She is survived by her husband, Carl; a daughter, Karie Lynn Ross of Sallisaw; two sons, Robert Edward Covington of Sallisaw and Randy Dwayne Covington of the home; a mother, Maggie Patterson of Vian; two brithers, Bobby Patterson of Butler, Okla., and Fred Patterson of Sallisaw; and four grandchildren, Hannah Raven Nicole, Treye Carl Edward, Jefferson Lawrence Ray and Amber Renee.

Jewell Tidwell, Jr.

Jewell "Jet" Edward Tidwell, Jr., 10, of Fordyce died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 in a Little Rock hospital. He was a fourth grade student at Wallace Elementery School and attended First Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Benton Funeral Home Chapel with burial at McDonald cemetery under the direction of Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.

He is survived by his parents, Jewell "Eddy" Edward Tidwell, formerly of Fort Smith, and Mary Ann Hickerson Tidwell, both of Fordyce; a sister, Hannah Elizabeth Tidwell of Fordyce; grandparents, Bobby R. Hickerson of New Edinburg, and Margaret Tidwell of Fordyce; great-grandparents, Jewell and Hannah Archer of Fordyce.

The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cody Bell

Cody Blaine Bell, 19, of Van Buren died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998. He was a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church, a graduate of Van Buren High School and an engineering student at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the First Baptist Church in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by his fiancee, Joy McKnight of Van Buren; parents, Jimmy G. and Sherri L. of Van Buren; two brothers, Kevin and Chris, both of Van Buren; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hobbs of Van Buren; and paternal grandmother, Mary Bell of Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be Justin Graham, Jason Lansdell, Frank Koeth, Adam Pendergrass, Josh Elliott and Blake Hays.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Domerese, Darrif Clark, Bryan Scherrley, Todd Young and Mark Toothaker.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Building Fund in Van Buren.

Rennah Thompson

Rennah M. Thompson, 85, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at her home. She was the widow of Harvey B. Thompson.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Neufell and husband, Robert of Fort Smith; two grandchildren, Timothy and Karen Neufell of Fort Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Paul Nemeth Jr.

PEORIA, Ariz. — Paul Nemeth Jr., 66, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Bonanza, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home. He attended school at Bonanza and graduated from Hackett High School. He retired from the City of Los Angeles after 28 years and was an Air Force veteran.

Funeral services were November 10, 1999, in Sunland Lakeside Chapel of Sun City, Ariz. Burial was at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City. A memorial service was held Nov. 10, 1999, at the Assembly of God of Bonanza.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; three sons, Chuck and Steven Jones, both of Peoria and Raymond Jones of California; six sisters, Mary Bridges and Lila Nemeth, both of Bonanza, Marjorie Bradshaw and Irene Perry, both of Fort Smith, Katherine Tankersley of North Highland, Calif., and Margaret Farrell of Santa Clare, Calif.; nine brothers, Carl and Dale of Bonanza, William and Charles of Long Beach, Calif., Jasper of Odessa, Texas, Joe of Abilene, Texas, Victor of Huntington, Beach, Calif., Jackie of Cordova, Tenn., and Nelson of Seville, Spain.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Bobby Underwood

NATURAL DAM — Bobby C. Underwood, 61, of Natural Dam died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in a local hospital.

He retired from Bob Underwood Bail Bonds and the Arkansas Professional Bail Bondsmen, was former vice president and manager of The Cushion Company. He was a founder of the Crawford County Mounted Patrol and was a parade marshal for 20 years. He attended the Independence Freewill Baptist Church in Natural Dam. He was a board member of Crawford County Conservation League and member of Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel of Van Buren with burial at Hall cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Mae Underwood; three daughters, Judith Lynn Young and Kay Cochran, both of Natural Dam and Sherry Miller of Van Buren; one son, Charles “Rusty” Underwood of Chester; one sister, Mae Alls of Van Buren; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Wiley, Jamie Marion, Danny Spears, Danny Jackson, Mike Hicks and Timmy Brown.

Bobby Rodgers

BRISHONE, Calif. — Bobby W. Rodgers, 58, of Brishone, formerly of Spiro, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999. He was a veteran and a member of the Tank Division, Honor Guard, lifetime member of the Lions Club and Eagles Club.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope cemetery in Spiro under the direction of King and Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; three daughters, Melissa Oamoun, Jordan and Eve Vvillemainroy, all of Brishone, Calif.; two sons, David Rodgers of Novlesville, Ind. and Raymond Vvillemainroy of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one sister, Linda Pollard of Stigler; seven brothers, Johnny, Richard and Paul Rodgers, all of Spiro, Charles and Thomas Rodgers, both of Keota and Danny and Harold, both of Broodshire, Texas and six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.

Sister Ann McShane

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Sister Ann Patrick McShane, SCN, 101, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. She was a native of Fort Smith and a member of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth for 79 years and served as a teacher and director of Juniorate and College Prefect at Nazareth and Louisville, including Presentation Academy and Nazareth Home.

Funeral Mass was Nov. 8, 1999, at St. Vincent Church of Nazareth, Ky. Burial was at the Motherhouse cemetery in Nazareth Ky, under the direction of Maraman-Billings Funeral Home of Shepherdsville, Ky.

She was survived by her niece, Anne McShane Sharp of Brinkley.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Mission of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Box 9, Nazareth, KY 40048.

Ruby Green

POTEAU — Ruby Inez Green, 86, of Poteau, formerly of Wister, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, in a Poteau health care center. She was born in Paris and was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Wister and First Baptist Church in Shady Point, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Home Extension of Wister. She was the widow of Barney Green Sr.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Greenhill cemetery in Cameron.

She is survived by two daughters, Nan Earven of Heavener and Mary Glover of Hesperia, Calif.; one son, Barney Green Jr. of Poteau; 10 grandchildren, Danny, Clark and Frank Earven and Marla Hinds, all of Heavener, Lucy McMillin, Jason and Dustin Green, all of Poteau, Tommy Nolen of Sulpher, La., Gary Nolen of Arkoma and Nannette Wright of Hesperia, Calif.; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny, Clark and Frank Earven, Gary and Tommy Nolen and Jason and Dustin Green.

Ruth Danner

Ruth Estes Danner, 94, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Midland. She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a master’s degree and was a teacher-principal in the Fort Smith schools from 1926 to 1971. She was a member of the University of Arkansas Alumni Association, Arkansas Retired Teachers’ Association, Arkansas Education Association and was a member of the Sparks Hospital Board. She was the widow of John M. Danner.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Hartman of Midland; one son, John Danner of Montgomery, Ala.; three grandchildren, John and Rick Hartman and Dee Hartman Stokes, all of Midland; and two great-grandchildren.

Leland Meeks Sr.

Leland C. Meeks Sr., 69, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in a local hospital. He was a retired insurance salesman and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a Mason, Shriner, member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Belle Point Lodge No. 20, Amrita Grotto and American Legion Post No. 31.

Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the U.S. National cemetery of Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Janis Reed Meeks; three sons, Randy of Mission Viejo, Calif., Terry of Murrieta, Calif. and Chuck Meeks Jr. of Burlington, Vt.; seven grandchildren, Stacy, Mendy, Brandon, Brittany, Jeremy, Spencer and Brennen.

The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Buck Hogan

Buck Hogan, 58, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Fort Smith. He retired as an employee of Scottsburg, Ind.

Memorial service will be 1 pm. Thursday at 1221 S. 26th St. with cremation under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; one daughter, Candy Bowen of Scottsburg, Ind.; three sons, William of Fort Smith, Duane and Toby, both of St. Cloud, Fla.; one sister, Margaret Ross of Plant City, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Sue Gates

Sue Augusta Coble Gates, 85 of Van Buren died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and the widow of Bonner Gates.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gracelawn cemetery of Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Relda Hale

Relda Day Hale, 79, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in Fort Smith. She retired as a librarian with the Public Library in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church of Fort Smith with burial of cremains at the Garden of the Advent at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Marie Hale of Bellingham, Wash.; two sons, Van of Fort Smith and David of Englewood, Colo.; four brothers, John Day of Pensacola, Fla., Joe Day of Mountainview, Calif., Jim Day of Oregon, Bill Day of League City, Texas; and four grandchildren.
