ELMER LARUE

MOUNTAINBURG — Elmer LaRue, 83, of Mountainburg died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in a local nursing home. He was retired from Nolan Mill Company and was a member of Gregory Chapel Church of Christ.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Morrison cemetery Arbor under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by one sister, Grace Todd of Stillwater, Okla; and several nieces and nephews, including Carl and Hope LaRue of Mountainburg.

ELVA MCCRAW

WALDRON — Elva Estelle “Bo” (James) McCraw, 86, of Waldron died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in a Waldron nursing home. She was retired from the Wichita Falls (Texas) Health Clinic. She was a member of Parks Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday in Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Duncan cemetery in Waldron.

She is survived by five nieces, Betty Hahn and Eloise VanCleve, both of Waldron, Mary Sue Martine of Charleston, Eva Jane West of Boulder, Colo., and Elva Jean Carey of Waco, Texas; two nephews, David Paul Roy of Denver and Lewis Belcher of Van Buren; and one brother, Jake Watson of Iowa Park, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Lewis and Jeff Belcher, Rodney Bynum, Jerry and Thomas Lee and Joe Martine.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.

MARY MARTIN

Mary Elizabeth Martin, 54, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in her home. She was active in activities at Nelson Hall Homes and a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Beckham Center Nelson Hall Homes. The body was cremated under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

She is survived by one son, Paul of Fort Smith; one sister, Marcia Martin of Utah; one brother, John Martin of Minnesota; and five grandchildren.

BURTON NAYLOR

HEAVENER — Burton Naylor, 64, of Heavener died Thursday, Oct. 12, in a Poteau hospital. He was retired from the Highway Department and was a pastor at Southern Baptist churches in the area and was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church in Reichert, Okla.. with burial at Conser cemetery near Heavener under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one daughter, Karen Robertson of Heavener; one son, Randy of Heavener; two sisters, Juanita McAlester of Leflore, Okla., and Carolyn Sams of Clarksville; six brothers, Hershel, Roger, Bob, Jim and Clyde, all of Heavener, and Dwain of Tule Lake, Calif.; two grandchildren, Jason and Crystal Robertson; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Shupert, Bud Barnes, Donald Allison, Jim Collins, Carl Lockhart and Marion Haynes.

PEARL TWYMAN

BOLES — Pearl Twyman, 91, of Boles died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Jehovah’s Witness.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Waldron Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.

She is survived by two daughters, Marvina Irene Davis and Marylou Bates, both of Boles; two grandchildren, Roger Dale Bates of Boles and Adrienne Worell of San Antonio, Texas; and one great-grandchild.

ORVEL NEWMAN

MANSFIELD — Orvel “Bob” Newman, 86, of Mansfield died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in a Waldron hospital. He was a retired furniture factory worker.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in Hon Baptist Church with burial at Lower Center Point cemetery near Hon under the direction of Martin Funeral Home in Mansfield.

He is survived by his wife Etta Belle; two daughters, Jewel Johnson and Wanda Price, both of Mansfield; four sons, Lowell and Ricky, both of Mansfield, Bobby Joe of Fort Smith and Robert Lee of Waldron; one sister, Belle Browning of Tulsa; two brothers, Willie Newman of Hon and Bryant Newman of Waldron; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Harris, Tim Johnson, Nicholas Dugan, Bill “Toby” Newman, Junior Newman, James “Jake” Newman, Roger Leeper and Steven Eaves.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

EDWARD DUGAN

MENA — Edward Eugene “Gene” Dugan, 73, of Mena died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in Little Rock. He served in the Army during World War II in Germany. He was a poultry farmer and a mill wright at Mid-South Wood Products. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Farm Bureau and Calvary Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Faith Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; four daughters, Debra Short of Irving, Texas, Darla Maple of Elk City, Okla., Peggy Smithson of Johnson City, Texas, and Kimberly Clayton of Arlington, Texas; one son, Terry of Mena; one brother, Ronald Dugan of Gilmer, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to CARTI in care of St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.

DARRELL HINDMARSH

Darrell W. “Bud” Hindmarsh, 81, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in a local hospital. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Fort Smith, a member of the American Legion, VFW and the United Commercial Travelers, Arkansas Retired Military Association, (director) Men’s Fort Smith Bowling Association and the National Rifle Association. He was the Arkansas men’s state bowling champion 1997 and was inducted into the state Bowling Hall of Fame. He was retired from the Army and was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday in Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors from Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla., under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ellen; three sons, James of Canton, Ga., David of Fort Smith and John of Alma; one sister, Evelyn Themsen of Eugene, Ore.; two brothers, Glen of Pleasant Dale, Neb., and William of Freemont, Neb.; 13 grandchildren, Darrell, Jason, Jeff, Stephen, Sarah, Mary, Mark, Spencer, Stuart, Sondra and Scott Hindmarsh, Candy Uselton and Ryan Stone; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the Fort Smith Men’s Bowling Association.

The family will visit with friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

LOWELL WETHERBEE SR.

SPRINGDALE — Lowell “Jim” A. Wetherbee Sr., 76, of Springdale died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in Rogers. He served in the Army in Germany during World War II and in Korea. He was a lifetime member of Kiwanis, the Army chapter of the Chosin Few in Korea, the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a member of First Christian Church of Springdale. He was the widower of Mollie J. Wetherbee.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in First Christian Church in Springdale with burial 2 p.m. at Steep Hill cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors by the honors team from Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla., under the direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel Inc. of Springdale.

He is survived by one daughter, Kathy A. Brown of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one son, Lowell A. Wetherbee Jr. of Rogers; one sister, Marilyn Lair of Marshalltown, Iowa; one brother, John Wetherbee of Marshalltown, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

CLOIS WADE

Clois Louise Wade, 82, of Fort Smith died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and retired employee of McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Corp.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated.

She is survived by one daughter, Audrey Myra Henry of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Arthur Deon Wade of Fort Smith; one sister, Sue Jones of Wilmington, Del.; six grandchildren, Patricia Conchala of Yakima, Wash., Michael F. Wade, Cecil D. Wade and Ronald H. Wade, all of Fort Smith, Clark P. Henry of Kansas City and Nancy S. Henry of Carlisle, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren.

NIVAH VENSON

MAGAZINE — Nivah Ione Flood Venson, 89, of Magazine died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in Booneville.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home in Booneville.

She is survived by one daughter, Sarah Rose Ann Erb of Magazine; two sons, Clarence Elijah and James Warren Venson, both of Magazine; four grandchildren, Doug and Sarah Erb, Will Venson and Beth Carter; and two great-grandchildren.

THOMAS BROCK SR.

ROLAND — Thomas Brock Sr., 80, of Roland died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was employed at Petit Jean, Acme Brick and Shipley Bakery.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Roland with burial at Shady Grove cemetery in Roland under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell; three daughters, Barbara D. Hudson of Muldrow, Kathy D. Brock of Garland, Texas, and Camenae L. Dooley of Roland; four sons, Thomas W. Brock of Fort Smith, Donald L. Brock of Bolingbrook, Ill., Allen R. Brock of Pittsboro, Ind., and Randall E. Brock of Barling; five sisters, Lottie Reynolds of Poteau, Rosie Lee Harris and Verna Glover, both of Berkeley, Calif., Omie Bean of Fresno, Calif., and Edith Kiff of Mount Morris, Mich.; one brother, Wyatt Brock Jr. of Flint, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Moshome and Myron Brock, Don Biggs, Earl Chatman, Ocie Releford, James Williams and King Strafford.

Viewing will be at the funeral home.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

MARTHA PIRTLE

HACKETT — Martha Virginia Pirtle, 74, of Hackett died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Daughters of the Texas Revolution. She was a Lutheran and the widow of Raymond Pirtle.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Howe cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.

She is survived by two daughters, Paula Ridgeway of Dallas and Cathy Sue Jennings of Tampa, Fla.; one son, James of Virginia Beach, Fla.; one sister, Patsy Jeter of Ivor, Va.; one brother, Kenneth Scott of Hackett; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

SAMUEL TOPHAM

AUSTIN, Texas — Samuel B. Topham, 29, of Austin, Texas, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in Austin. He was a computer consultant and a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

He is survived by two sons, Carruth and Tristan, both of Eureka, Calif.; his parents, the Rev. Michael and Debbie Topham of Fort Smith; and one sister, Britt Humphries of Muldrow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Goddard United Methodist Church, 1922 Dodson Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

WILLIAM STOUDT

BARLING — William R. “Bill” Stoudt, 78, of Barling died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in a local nursing home. He was retired from Ace Hardware.

Memorial service will be at a later date. The body was cremated under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; four daughters, Penny Everett of Dallas and Terri Cliver, Sherri Ladner and Christy Stoudt, all of Charlotte, N.C.; three sons, Bill Stoudt of San Antonio, Texas, Steve Stoudt of Lavaca, and Chuck Mondier of Barling; one sister, Eleanor Carson of Port Huron, Mich.; two brothers, Frank of Sarsota, Fla., and Chuck of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

JAMES CLARK

MENA — James Howard Clark, 86, of Mena died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Hot Springs. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served in England, France, Belgium, Japan and the United States. He was a member of the 391st Bomb Group Association, World War II. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and was a Protestant. He was the widower of Ruby Hawkins Clark.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

He is survived by one son, Larry Clark of Rimrock, Ariz.; and several other family members.

GRACE LISS

HOT SPRINGS — Grace S. Liss, 90, of Hot Springs died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in Hot Springs. She was a retired sales clerk and a member of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. She was the widow of August Gilbert Liss.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

She is survived by one daughter, Helen “Tommye” Chesshir of Hot Springs; one sister, Kathleen Kuntz of Hot Springs; three grandchildren; Mike and Bill Chesshir and Susan Johnson, all of Hot Springs; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church in Hot Springs.

CHARLES SHEWARD

RUDY — Charles Edward Sheward, 69, of Rudy died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in his home. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a retired dispatcher for ABF.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel of Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two daughters, Sharon Novak of Salina, Kan., and Cheryl Davis of Little Rock; five sons, Dwayne Sheward of Little Rock, David, Richard and Ronald Arthur, all of Van Buren, and Robert Arthur of Tulsa; his mother, Alice Delso of Tulsa; two sisters, Wilma Cummings of Sapulpa, Okla., and Doris Cabrera of Carlsbad, N.M.; and 13 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Columbus Dalmut, Dwayne Sheward, Curtis Davis, John Novak and Rick and Ron Arthur.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
