DONALD COBB

Donald Gillett Cobb, 86, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in a local hospital. He was retired from Central Supply, was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post No. 31. He was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible class.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Goddard United Methodist Church with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean; four daughters, Elizabeth Ann Price of Hurst, Texas, Julie Conley of Muldrow, Nancy Dworkin of Marco Island, Fla., and Mary Jane Cobb of Sherman, Texas; four sons, John D. Cobb of Springdale, Stephen Gillett Cobb of Oklahoma City, Ronald Eric Cobb of Allen, Texas, and Christopher Lawrence Cobb of Tulsa; two sisters, Dorothy Lill Lemole of Denison, Texas, and Nell Click of Clifton, Texas; one brother, Frank of Galveston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be Ronny, Gillett, Chris and John D. Cobb, Garrett Lewis, Tod O’Brien, Dale Conley and Joel Chasteen.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Bible class of Goddard United Methodist Church.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Goddard United Methodist Church, 1922 Dodson Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Nadine Melton

PARIS — Nadine Melton, 63, of Paris died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Fort Smith. She was homemaker and a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris with burial at Caulksville cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Gerald Melton; one daughter, Cathy Garner of Fort Smith; one son, Gerald Ray Melton of Greenwood; three sisters, Christine Black of Roseville, Marine Sullivan of Virginia Beach, Va., and Margie Kirchner of New Blaine; five brothers, Damon Fox of Ratcliff, J.T. Fox of Phoenix, Curtis Fox of Central City, Wayne Fox of Seattle and Chester “Pete” Fox of Orlando, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Amanda Garner and Eric, Kaili and Alayna Melton.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Allen, Harold “Pee Wee” Schluterman, Donald Hixon, Sam Rice, John Chandler and Jerry Martin.

Thyra Williams

MULBERRY — Thyra Lee “Toby” Williams, 56, of Mulberry died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Alma Full Gospel Outreach Church.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Alma Full Gospel Outreach Church with burial at New cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Alma.

She is survived by her husband, Franklin; four daughters, Kimberly Cowan of Alma, Tammi Townsend of Van Buren, Linda Spencer of Paris and Joy Williams Prichard of Burleson, Texas; one son, Johnny Frank Williams of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Phyllis Francis and Kathie Wilson, both of Mulberry; one brother, T.J. Beckham Jr. of Mulberry; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Earl Crandall, Stanley King, Arthur Lee Spencer, Darren Fields, Randy Francis, Danny Hern and Johnny E. Williams.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jo Ann Pledger

OZARK — Jo Ann Alston Pledger, 69, of Ozark died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Fort Smith. She was retired and a member of Altus Methodist Church. She was the widow of Jim Jack Alston and Thomas Pledger.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Altus Methodist Church with burial at Rankin cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa Medford of Fort Smith and Linda Alston of Mount Pleasant, Texas; one son, Jim Alston of Mount Vernon, Texas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and special friend, Bill Crabtree of Ozark.

Pallbearers will be Doug Pledger, Allan Hall, Terry Lewis, Robert Ross, Bryan, Chris, and Philip Alston.

The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mattie Hoffman

POTEAU — Mattie Jane Hoffman, 96, of Poteau died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Heavener. She was a member of Church of Christ in Heavener.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Page cemetery in Heavener.

She is survived by her husband, Jake; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward Wilbanks

HEAVENER — Edward Charles Wilbanks, 86, of Heavener died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Perry Chapel Baptist Church in Heavener.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Mount View cemetery in Howe.

He is survived by two brothers, Ted of Heavener and L.G. of Tulsa.

Leonora Wilcox

CLARKSVILLE — Leonora Falls Wilcox, 89, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Russellville. She was a member of Clarksville First United Methodist Church, the Power Circle, Fellowship-Powers-Spars Sunday School Class, Partners in Ministry of Fort Smith District of United Methodist Church and P E O. She was the widow of Rev. J. Clarence Wilcox.

Funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with burial at Pisgah cemetery in Pottsville under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.

She is survived by one son, James Thomas Wilcox of Rogers; two sisters, Hazel Hamaker of Pottsville and Patsy Barrett of Clarksville; two brothers, the Rev. William Nale Falls of Little Rock and Thomas Bunn Falls of North Little Rock.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Hawkins, Cleve Reasoner, Mike, Max, and John Falls and J.J. Wilcox.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Fellowship-Powers-Spars Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women.

The family will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ngo Van Ty

RACH GIA, Vietnam — Ngo Van Ty, 84, of Rach Gia, Vietnam, died Nov. 3, 2000, in Vietnam. He was retired and was a Buddhist.

He will be buried Nov. 8, 2000 in Rach Gia, Vietnam.

He is survived by two daughters, Phung Thi Ngo and Ngo Thi Phung both of Fort Smith; four sons, Ngo Tri Phen, and Son Tri Ngo both of Utah, Ngo Tri Von and Von Tri Ngo, both of Fort Smith.

Garrett Blythe

Garrett Spencer Blythe, infant son of Keith and Laura Blythe of Fort Smith, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in a local hospital.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Bobby and Sharon Blythe of Booneville and Rose Spencer of Fort Smith; one aunt, Kim Hadley of Fayetteville; and one uncle, Kelly Hadley of Fayetteville.

Don Williams

STONEWALL, Okla. — Don C. Williams, 79, of Stonewall, Okla., died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Ada, Okla. He was retired from construction and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Coalgate Masonic Lodge and a member of United Methodist Church in Coalgate, Okla.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in United Methodist Church in Coalgate with burial at Cairo cemetery in Coal County, Okla., under the direction of Atoka Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Syblee; one daughter, Lisa J. Johnson of Catoosa, Okla.; five sons, John R. Williams of Durant, Okla., Donald M. Williams of McAlester, Okla., Donnie K. Williams of Mansfield, Tommy C. Williams of Catoosa and Perry B. Williams of Disputanta, Va.; step-daughters, Janet Airington, Julie Bowen and Dana Haney, all of Coalgate and Janna Madden of Davis, Okla.; two sisters, Miriam Witherspoon of Coalgate and Doris Barlow of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Ray Williams of Wardville, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Wayne Ward, Jerry Stacey, Carl R. and Jim McEntire, Paul Hooe and Louis John Sandmann.

Hallis Floyd

ASHDOWN — Hallis W.H. Floyd, 68, of Ashdown died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Texarkana. He was a painter and a Baptist.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Duncan cemetery in Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home in Waldron.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam Perrin of Charlotte, N.C., and Sheila Call of Hot Springs; the mother of his children, Ola Mae Kemp of Pencil Bluff; one sister, Margie Love of Greenwood; two brothers, Dewayne Floyd of Ashdown and Robert Floyd of Texarkana, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CHRISTINA HOLLOWAY

COAL HILL — Christina Mary Sullivan Holloway, 81, of Coal Hill died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Paris. She was a homemaker and the widow of Andrew R. Holloway.

Private graveside service was held Thursday at Coal Hill cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.

She is survived by two daughters, Margot Wilfong of Shipman, Ill., and Mary Meriwether of Ozark; two sons, Kenneth of Shipman and Richard in Little Rock; and 15 grandchildren.

LUTIE BARNES

HOUSTON — Lutie Stevenson Barnes, 96, of Houston, formerly of Mena, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Houston. She was born Oct. 30, 1904, in Vandervoort. She worked for Sears and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and First Methodist Church of Houston. She was the widow of Hal Cecil Barnes.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

She is survived by one daughter, Jo Ella Livin of Houston; one sister, Marjorie Ames of Newkirk, Okla.; one brother, J.B. “Bus” Stevenson of Leesville, La.; two grandsons, Greg and Jeff Livin; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

LEONA PITTS

LAMAR — Leona Pitts, 89, of Lamar died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Lamar. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Home Free Will Baptist Church, Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Citizens. She was the widow of Ollie W. Pitts.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Minnow Creek cemetery in Lamar.

She is survived by four daughters, Faye Woodard of Clarksville, Rennie Craig of Knoxville, Janiece Hallowell of Haughton, La., and Geraldine Parker of London, Ark.; three sons, H.E. (Bud) Pitts of Little Rock, Clifton Pitts of Ozone and Jerry Pitts of Lamar; five sisters, Beulah Tumbleson and Nanie Lou Hodges, both of Missouri, Iva Rushing of Clarksville, Earlene Davis of Russellville and Eula Owen of Lamar; three brothers, Columbus Jones of Lamar and Ira and Junior Jones, both of Clarksville; 37 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Harold Monroe, David Perrin, Kelly and Irvin Collier, Don Bowles and Ron Dail Jr.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

RUBY GILLIS

SALLISAW — Ruby Gillis, 85, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Sallisaw.

The body will be cremated under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

She is survived by one daughter, Cordelia Ann Porter of Worthington, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Norma Gillis of Sallisaw; five grandchildren, Christopher Lane, William Patrick Porter, Bobbi Wilson, JoDel Rider and DeeAnna MacDonald; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

ELSIE SNOW

CLARKSVILLE — Elsie Snow, 94, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Clarksville. She was a retired grocery store owner. She was the widow of Charley H. Snow.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Lamar cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.

She is survived by one brother, Gran Reynolds of Clarksville; two nieces and two nephews.

GRACE CHAMBERS

PINE RIDGE — Grace Chambers, 85, of Pine Ridge died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Hot Springs. She was born Nov. 6, 1915, in Pine Ridge. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Ridge Union Church. She was the widow of Johnny Chambers.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Pine Ridge Union Church with burial at Pine Ridge cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Hatton of Sims and Barbara Dillon of Mena; two sisters, Bethel HIcks of Pine Ridge and Leona Johnson of Live Oak, Calif.; two brothers, Clifford and Glen Hicks, both of Pine Ridge; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials contributions may be made to Pine Ridge Union Church.

VIRGINIA HARRISON

WISTER — Virginia Harrison, 43, of Wister died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in Poteau. She was born Nov. 16, 1956, in Phoenix. She was a cook.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Heart of the Hills Baptist Church in Summerfield, Okla., with burial at Summerfield cemetery under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

She is survived by her husband, Allen; four daughters, Diana Winters, Melissa Bailey and Minnie Yearberry, all of Poteau, and Virgilene Harrison of Sweany, Ind.; and two sons, Robert Hamner of California and Allen Harrison Jr. of Watonga, Okla.; her parents, Robert and Ona Miller of Summerfield; one brother, Johnny Bob Miller of Summerfield; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roger and Dennis Harrison, Eldon and Timmy Cox, Doc Singleterry and A.C. Evans.

Sue Culver, 69, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was the widow of J.W. Culver.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Brown of Van Buren; two sons, Jackie of Huntington and Steve of Fort Smith; three sisters, Melba Balentine of Fort Smith, Lynn McKee of De Funiak Springs, Fla., and Joann Whitworth of Advance, Mo.; six half-sisters, Paula Balentine of Lawton, Okla., Diane Balentine of Wichita Falls, Texas, Joan Motsenbocker of Quanah, Texas, Karen Longbine of Esteoline, Texas, and Mona and Tina Balentine of Arizona; one brother, Bill Balentine of Waldron; five half-brothers, Jesse Mac and Ron Balentine, both of Wichita Falls, John of Lawton, Jimmy of Altus, Okla., and Gary Balentine of Denison, Texas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
