HEAVENER — Orville “Sim” Tiffee, 85, of Heavener died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in McAlester, Okla. He was a lifelong resident of Heavener, a member of the First Baptist Church, the Civilian Conservation Corps and the United Trainsmen Union and a retired conductor of the Kansas City Southern Railroad. He was the widower of Maxine Tiffee.
Funeral will be 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Memorial Park in Heavener.
He is survived by one daughter, Darlene Shadwick of Heavener; two sons, Jim Tiffee of Poteau and Bill Tiffee of Norman, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Mark Shadwick, Darla Williams, Jody, Rob, Jason, Jamey and Colby Tiffee and Tracy Perry; and 18 great-grandchildren.

NEW BLAINE — Doyle Hughey Purdom, 80, of New Blaine died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in California.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with burial at the Mitchell cemetery in Greenway under the direction of Dardanelle Funeral Service.
He is survived by three sons, Don Purdom of Lakewood, Calif., David Purdom of Orange, Calif., and Rick Purdom of Shawnee, Okla.; two daughters, Ginger Seeley of Fountain Valley, Calif., Tina Bushling of Costa Mesa, Calif.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m today at the Dardanelle Funeral Service and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Irby Funeral Home.

CAMERON — Frank Smith, 94, of Cameron died Sunday, March 4, 2001, in Poteau. He was a farmer and was born on Sept. 28, 1906 in Arkansas. He was the widower of Anna Catherine Smith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Fairhill (Knothole) cemetery in Cameron.
He is survived by one daughter, Viola Connelly of Pocola; one son, W.R. “Babe” Smith of Poteau; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Hermie Bruns Smith, 68, of Van Buren died Sunday, March 4, 2001 in a local hospital. She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wood Memorial Christian Church in Van Buren with burial at Fairview cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; two daughters, Paula Levy of Fort Smith and Melissa Swagerty of Broken Arrow; three sons, Randy of Van Buren, Greg of Sapulpa, Okla., and Neil of Tulsa; one sister, Caroline Allen of Van Buren; one brother, Robert C. “Bob” Bruns of Van Buren; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Les Actkinson, Richard Sitton, Roger Kendrick, Joe Jackson, Bob Jones and Mike Franklin.

CAMERON, Okla. — Richard Lew Thompson Sr., 58, of Cameron, Okla., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Cameron. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a truck driver.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Ballou Baptist Church in Locust Grove, Okla., with burial at Ballou cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Betsy, Cindy and Lawanda; a stepdaughter, Ladonna; three sons, Richard Lew Jr., Ronald Joe and Sequoyah; four stepsons, Hank, Frank, Scott and Kenny; two sisters, Sara Jane Henson of Hulbert, Okla., and Ann Belle Bachfink of Catoosa, Okla.; the mother of his children, Carrie Quinn; and 23 grandchildren.
Mason Childers Sr.
Mason Lee Childers Sr., 51, of Van Buren died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in a local hospital. He was the chief of police for the city of Van Buren, an Army veteran and a member of the Arkansas Municipal Police Association, Arkansas Chiefs of Police Association, the 911 Board, the Van Buren Rotary Club and Living Word Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today in Living Word Baptist Church in Van Buren with burial at Fort Smith National cemetery with the Honor Guard provided by the North Little Rock Police Department under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Melinda Johnston of Van Buren; a son, Mason Childers Jr. of Van Buren; his mother, Alberta Loyd of Fort Smith; his father, Jack Childers Sr. of Booneville; a sister, Sue Lowe of Fort Smith; four brothers, Larry of Van Buren, Jack Childers Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., Robert Jones of Dora and Bill Jones Jr. of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren, Amber and Tyler Johnston and Katie and Whitney Childers.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Blount, Don Mullins, Alan Swaim, Stan Oldham, Todd Jewell, Teasie Harris and Paul Dunn.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Van Buren Police Department.

KEOTA — Wayne O. Green, 71, of Keota died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Muskogee, Okla. He was a laborer.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Old Cache cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Keota.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and a brother, Forrest of Oregon.
Pallbearers will be members of the VFW.

SUGARLOAF LAKE — Harold “Red” McKinney, 69, of Sugarloaf Lake died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a retired repairman for Baldor Electric and a former employee of Covey Company. He was a member of Tyro Community Church.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Slaytonville cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; a daughter, Lisa Roberts of Sugarloaf Lake; two sons, Harold Gene McKinney and Barry McKinney, both of Sugarloaf Lake; a sister, Darla Vandermillion of Fort Smith; five brothers, Allen of Lavaca, Sammie and Jimmy, both of Booneville, George and Bobby, both of Greenwood; and seven grandchildren, Kari, Kyle, Kori and Amy McKinney, Heather Taylor, Stephen and Ryan Roberts.

Trenton Lane McMillian Lord, 3, of Van Buren died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in a local hospital.
Private service for father, family and friends will be 9 a.m. Saturday, and a private service for mother, family and friends will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, with burial at Spiro City cemetery in Spiro.
He is survived by his father, Ralph Lord of Van Buren, his mother, Kim McMillian of Waldron; a brother, Dylan McMillian Lord of the home; his maternal grandparents, Carol and Randall French of Waldron; his paternal grandparents, Pauline Nickerson of Fort Smith and Ralph Lord II of Barling; maternal great-grandparents, William and Helen Terry of Spiro; and paternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Jones of Muldrow.

Louis Green, 81, of Van Buren died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired custodian for the Fort Smith Public School System.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Tuck of Muldrow and Mary Jane Croff of Clarksville; four sons, Bill and J.C., both of Dyer, Ginny of Fort Smith and Leon of Van Buren; a sister, Marie Fant of Fort Smith; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Jack O. Garner, 96, of Fort Smith, formerly of Waverly, Kan., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Topeka, Kan. He was a retired chef and was the widower of Stella Garner.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a brother, Jerry of Tulsa; three nieces, Donna Cash and Jerlene Parks, both of Marshall, and Darlene Smith of West Phalia, Kan.; and two nephews, Billy Williams of California and Raymond Garner of Nebraska.

Elsie Newman
ROGERS — Elsie Marie Riggs Newman, of Rogers, formerly of Central City, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Rogers. She was a school teacher and taught piano. She and her husband ran a dairy in Central City and she was the second mayor of Central City and the city’s first female mayor. She was the widow of Moniel O. Newman.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a son, Mark O. Newman of Rogers; three grandchildren, Vicki Kilcoyne of Stilwell, Okla., Mark E. and David E. Newman, both of Olathe, Kan.; six great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

HEAVENER — Frances Ollie Ply, 82, of Heavener died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Fort Smith.

She is survived by a son, Billy C. Pierce of Mount Ida; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Douglas Plummer
Douglas C. Plummer, 91, Fort Smith died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was a Air Force veteran of World War II and the retired original owner of Plummer Furniture and Upholstering. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was the widower of Cleo A. Plummer.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Glenda Aldridge Lairamore of Arkadelphia; a son, Damon of Fort Smith; two sisters, Imogene Watkins of Florida and Melba Burgess of Pittsburg; a brother, Horace of Tyler, Texas; and one granddaughter, Alison Donnell.

Anna Stephens
Anna B. Stephens, 90, of Van Buren died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Forrest City. She was a retired member of the National Teachers and the Arkansas Teachers Association and retired after 26 years as director of the Van Buren School District Food Service Program and was a life member of the Parent Teacher Association. She was honor of the Grand Cross of Colors from the Rainbow Girls and past Matron of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Van Buren First Baptist Church, where she served on committees and was a longtime Sunday school teacher. She was the widow of Burrell Stephens.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty E. Beazley of Forest City; a son, David A. Stephens of Manchester, Mo.; two sisters, Evora James Bates and Pauline Dean, both of Van Buren; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

KNOXVILLE — Mildred Pauline Phillips, 75, of Knoxville died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in her home. She was retired from Westinghouse Company and was a Free Will Baptist. She was the widow of Jasper Phillips.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m. today at Holman cemetery in Lamar under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Virginia Matthews of Jacksonville; a brother-in-law, Arnel Phillips of North Little Rock; and three nephews, Greg, Tim and James M. Matthews, all of Jacksonville.
