He was a retired Realtor for Gerald Price Agency, a 32nd Degree Mason, Temple Lodge No. 755, member of Western Arkansas Scottish Rite Bodies and a member of Woodland Hills Pentecostal Church in Roland. He was the widower of Lydia Hayes.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn cemetery in Fort Smith.

He is survived by three daughters, Peggy Rowland of Roland and Mary Farrar and Janet Barnett, both of Lavaca; one sister, Roy Lee Tapp of Van Buren; two half-brothers, Albert Branham of Tahlequah, Okla., and Earl Branham of Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Grove, Harold Daily, Melvin Roberts, J.W. Floyd, J.R. Lewis Jr. and Joe Pat Fletcher.

VIVIAN FRIDDLE

CHESTER — Vivian Friddle, 78, of Chester died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in her home. She was a homemaker and Baptist.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chester cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.

She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Baldwin and Dorothy Payne, both of Chester; two sons, Ray of Moristown, Tenn., and Donald of Chester; one brother, Dan Miller of Corcoran, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

PEARL CREEL

MOUNTAINBURG — Pear Creel, 83, of Mountainburg died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in Van Buren. She was a retired cook for the Mountainburg Nutrition Center and a member of Locke Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Locke Free Will Baptist Church with burial at Locke cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Alma.

She is survived by her husband, J.C. Creel; two sons, Alonzo and Dub, both of Mountainburg; one sister, Retta Drummond of Bidville; one brother, Dalton Williams of Mountainburg; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dewey Drummond, Tony, Norman and Ricky Williams and Carl and John Green.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the body may be viewed at that time.

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Ophelia S. Pete, 57, of Lake Charles, La., and formerly of Fort Smith, died Oct. 19, 2000, in Lake Charles, La. She was a 1961 graduate of Lincoln High School and a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ in Lake Charles.

Funeral was Oct. 26 in Lake Charles with burial at DeQuincey (La.) Community cemetery under the direction of Combre Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

She was survived by three daughters, Cathleen Peay of Raleigh, N.C., Sabrina Breedlove of Silver Spring, Md., and Sonja Scott of Baton Rouge, La.; five sisters, Mary Franklin of St. Louis, Terry Oleka of Irvington, N.J., Theresa Jones, Celestine Roberson and Brenda Feimster, all of Flint, Mich.; one stepsister, Emmer Hall of Las Vegas; two brothers, Howard Oliver Jr. of Lake Charles and Sidney Oliver of Flint; and two grandchildren, Leah and Lindsey Scott Jr., both of Baton Rouge.

ARTHUR SCOTT JR.

GREENWOOD — Arthur James Scott Jr., 72, of Greenwood died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was a retired cement finisher and a Marine Corps and Air Force veteran in World War II. He was a Baptist.

Funeral services are pending at Rose Hill Funeral Home in Whittier, Calif., with burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Whittier. Local arrangements are under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood.

He is survived by three daughters, Toni Needham of Greenwood and Betty Beshears and Diane Lawson, both of Longview, Texas; one son, Louis James Scott of Atlanta; two sisters, Helen Cahall and Francis Scott, both of Delaware; one brother, Jim Scott of Delaware; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

BETTY GREEN

Betty Lou Green, 73, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lovelace cemetery in Witcherville under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood.

She is survived by one son, Larry of Greenwood; one sister, Vera Jean Brown of Dallas; two brothers, Dale R. Martin of Billings, Mont., and James R. Martin of Fort Smith; and one granddaughter, Melissa L. Green.

The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

RALPH HUMPHREY

MIDLAND — Ralph Humphrey, 76, of Midland died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in a Waldron nursing home. He was retired from International Paper.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Midland with burial at Mount Olive cemetery in Midland under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

He is survived by one daughter, Betty Humphrey of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; two sons, Larry of Everton and Raymond of Harrison; one sister, Eltra Burgess of Hartford; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

MULDROW — Annie Barber, 88, of Muldrow died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Roland. She was a homemaker and a Free Will Baptist.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Church of Christ in Roland with burial at Cottonwood cemetery, south of Muldrow, under the direction of Agent Funeral Home in Roland.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris Hodges of Roland and Ruby Keech of Sallisaw; two sons, B.J. of Muldrow and Vic of Sayre, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

GREENWOOD — Irene Jansen King, 77, of Greenwood died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Barling.

Rosary will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Barling with burial at Holy Cross cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Bernard Joe; one daughter, Debra Ruth Bowles of Torrance, Calif.; three stepsons, Jeff King of Topeka, Kan., Bill King of Hackett and Bernard King Jr. of Bakersfield, Calif.; six step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Verne, Bobby and Randy Waters, Jerry and Bill Jansen and Jeannie Jackson.

The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Michael Wayne Fluaitt, 43, of Fort Smith died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, in St. Louis.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Jane; three daughters, Jan-Michael Fluaitt of the home, Marsha Fox of Fort Smith and Rachel Fluaitt of Dyer; his parents, Floyd and Bernadette Fluaitt; one sister, LyndaKaye Kahl of McAlester, Okla.; five brothers, Arthur of Iowa City, Iowa, William Bruce of Kentucky, Floyd Edwards III of Rockford, Ill., Russell Wayne of McAlester and David Joseph of Dyer; and two granddaughters, Mafra Fox and Lydia Fluaitt.

Pallbearers will be Dennis and Harold Peters, Billy and George Bray and Prentiss and D.J. Peters.

PANAMA — Pearl L. Walker, 93, of Panama died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Panama. She was a homemaker and the widow of Herbert Gollihare.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Evans and Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Greenhill cemetery in Cameron.

She is survived by one sister, Minnie Ritter of Oklahoma City; one brother, Edward Scarberry of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Johnson, Tyrone Blocker, Tina Morris and Terry and George Bryan.

JOSEPH WILSON

MENA — Joseph E. “Joe” Wilson, 69, of Mena died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in Mena. He served in the Army and was a member of Liberty Chapel in Mena.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Liberty Chapel in Mena with burial at Six-Mile cemetery in Hatfield under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie; two daughters, Cindy Bess of Conway and Pam Johnston of Burton, Texas; one son, John Michael Wilson of Mukwonago, Wis.; two sisters; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Steve Oglesby, Bill Wright, Stanley Dryer, Honnus Warren, Tom Head, John Lancaster, Michael Wilson and Art Darilek.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Victory Baptist Church with burial at Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home in Booneville.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; three sons, Robert of Booneville and Roy Allen and Jackie Ray, both of Beeville, Texas; five sisters, Beatrice Pope of Granbury, Texas, Louise Enis of Morton, Texas, Etta Lee Houston of Fort Worth, Texas, and Joyce and Loyce Martin, both of Chickasha, Okla.; three brothers, O.E. and J.B., both of Beeville, and Harold King of Chickasha; 15 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Kathleene Isabel Keck, 82, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Fort Smith. She was a retired music instructor for Westark College, former member of the Fort Smith Symphony, member of the American Guild of Organist, the Fort Smith Musical Coterie and the retired organist for the First Church of Christ-Scientist. She taught private piano in her home. She was a 1934 graduate of Fort Smith High School and a graduate of the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. She was a Baptist.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Goddard United Methodist Church with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith.

She is survived by one brother, Henry Manford Keck II of Fort Smith; a nephew, Ken Wintory of Fort Smith; seven nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nieces.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Taylor, Blake Wintory, Lyle Klein, Jason Williams, V.P. McKay and William Barnes.

MULDROW — DoVe V. Helms, 78, of Muldrow died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a retired heavy duty mechanic, a Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW in Muldrow. He was a Lutheran.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.

He is survived by two daughters, Nanda Bolden of Clinton and Shannon Bostic of Enola; one son, Dub of Barling; two sisters, Sudie Mae Lennington of Roland and Jean Parsons of Fort Smith; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Bolden, Bud and Toby Bostic, W.C. Helms, Dale Black and Kerry Huie.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PARIS — Nadine Melton, 63, of Paris died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Fort Smith. She was homemaker and a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris with burial at Caulksville cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Gerald; one daughter, Cathy Garner of Fort Smith; one son, Gerald Ray of Greenwood; three sisters, Christine Black of Roseville, Marine Sullivan of Virginia Beach, Va., and Margie Kirchner of New Blaine; five brothers, Damon Fox of Ratcliff, J.T. Fox of Phoenix, Ariz., Curtis Fox of Central City, Wayne Fox of Seattle and Chester “Pete” Fox of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Amanda Garner and Eric, Kaili and Alayna Fox.

Willey D. Barnhill, 88, of Fort Smith died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in his home. He was a factory worker and Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.

He is survived by six daughters, Dianna Nielsen of Alma, Mary Jo Jefferson of Valdosta, Ga., Wilma Henderson of Jacksonville, Betty Stamps of Sparkman, Lovone Lindsey of Gosnell and Carolyn West of Barling; two sons, William “Butch” of Paris and Jeffery of Bryant; two sisters, Jewell Jordan of Nashville, Tenn., and Mary Hickman of Centerville, Tenn.; one brother, Robert of Nunnelley, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
