Frances Blalock
POTEAU — Frances L. Queen Blalock, 80, of Poteau died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Poteau. She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Hontubby, Okla. She was a homemaker and the widow of Harvey Blalock.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hontubby cemetery in Hontubby under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Hardin and Beverly Jones, both of Poteau; seven grandchildren, Jerry Don McDaniel of Midwest City, Okla., Sherry Gayle Smathers of Oklahoma City, LeAnn West and Pam Sims, both of Poteau, Gina Bonds of Broken Bow, Okla., Karen Hoard of Austin, Texas and Ila Davis of Carryton, Tenn., five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Stanley Porter
Stanley Eugene Porter, 58, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in his home. He was a Marine veteran, a retired carpenter, and a member of Carpenters Union 71. He attended First Baptist Church in Arkoma.
Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith. The body was cremated under the direction Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; a step-daughter, Serena Feeback of Vassar, Kan.; a stepson, Charles Brown of Norco, Calif.; two brothers, Larry and Less Porter; and five grandchildren.

Janis Conwell
CROSBY, Texas — Janis E. Conwell, 53, of Crosby, Texas, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001. She was born in Tulsa and raised in Fort Smith. She was an adjunct instructor at San Jacinto College North Campus in Houston, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Houston.
Funeral was held Monday in Woodforest Baptist Church in Houston with burial at Houston National cemetery under the direction of Howard-Glendale Funeral Home of Houston.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Jene Conwell; three daughters, Jennifer Conwell of Alma, Christy and Elizabeth Conwell, both of Houston; two sons, Joel and Joshua Conwell, both of Houston; two sisters, Georgia Wilson of Chicago, and Carol Sue Clayton of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.

Bobby Jones
MAGAZINE — Bobby Joe Jones, 65, of Magazine died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church of God in Paris.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Faith Pentecostal Church of God in Paris with burial at Carolan cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Debbie Jones of Magazine, and Patricia Weaver of Paris; five sons, Jody Jones of Houston, Roy Jones of Ozark, David Jones of Leport, Texas, Wesley and J.L. Jones, both of Paris; three sisters, Lou Scatling of Booneville, Jamie Waganer of Huntington, and Pat Seahorn of Waldron; and 12 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dennis and Vernon Jones, Nicky Seahorn, Rich Mercer, Tobe Waganer and Jay Weaver.

Samuel Denton
CHARLESTON — Samuel Denton, 76, of Charleston died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in his home. He was a Marine veteran of World War II, a retired supervisor for the Fort Smith Chair Company, a member of Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion Post No. 64 in Heber Springs.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Nixon cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; four daughters, Sheri Rudd and Donna Woods, both of Lavaca, Carolyn Sebek of St. Louis, and Patricia Branson of Rudy; two sons, Jerry Denton of Lavaca, and Alan Denton of Charleston; 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Sheri Nichols
ENTERPRISE — Sheri Ann Nichols, 21, of Enterprise died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Longtown, Okla. She attended Quinton Public Schools and began a career with Lakeview Landi Motel & R.V. Park as a day manager,
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Faith Community Church in Whitefield with burial at Brooken cemetery in Brooken under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by a companion, Corey Windsor; a daughter, Alexia Leigh Nichols-Windsor of the home; her parents, Penny and Patrick Okoluk of Enterprise; maternal grandfather, Ronald W. Nichols Sr. of Brooken; paternal grandparents, Richard Okoluk of Oklahoma City, and Edith Okoluk of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Rachel Dimiguel of Castro Valley, Calif.; a stepsister, Jessica Maddox of Channelview, Texas; two brothers, Joshua and Daniel DeMiquel of Castro Valley, Calif.
Pallbearers will be Mike and Ron Nichols Jr., Ron Nichols III, Michael Fitzgerald, Jim Barbier and Tony Barbee.

Earl Garten
STIGLER — Earl R. Garten, 68, of Stigler-Beaver Mountain area, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Stigler. He was a retired Oklahoma State trooper.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Mountain Home Baptist Church with burial at Mountain Home cemetery in Whitefield under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Debby; a son, Ricky Garten of Garland, Texas; five sisters, Nina Kinsey and June Shook of Meeker, Janice Sawaya of Yukon, Neta Adams of Tuttle, and Joey Medley of Keota; one brother, Gerald Elmer Garten of Sepulveda, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Geneva Salter
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. — Geneva L. Salter, 74, of Hendersonville, Tenn., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001. She was the widow of Milo E. Salter.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in Hendersonville Chapel of Phillips-Robinson of Hendersonville with burial at Woodlawn East cemetery in Hendersonville, Tenn.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Gallo; two brothers, Gene Hobbs of Holly Grove, Ark., and Carl Hobbs of Fort Smith; two sisters, Jane Glover of Van Buren, and Hazel Moss; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Bette Provin
HOT SPRINGS — Bette Mae Aston Provin, 83, of Hot Springs, formerly of Fort Smith, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in Hot Springs. She was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church. She worked for Kresge Company, the Fort Smith Freight Bureau, and retired from Employment Security Division of the State of Arkansas in Fort Smith. She was the widow of Bill Provin.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two son, Bill E. Provin II of Hot Springs, and Dallas Provin of Conway; three great-grandchildren, Michelle Crumpton of Little Rock, Greg Provin of Plano, Texas, and Melissa West of Conway; twin great-grandchildren, Ryan and Tanner Crumpton.
Memorial contributions may be made to any local Humane Society.

Evelyn Siffing
VIAN — Evelyn Marie Siffing, 68, of Vian died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, in Fort Smith. She was former co-owner of H-H Furniture Factory in Vian and a factory worker. She was a Protestant and the widow of her first husband, Doyle Curt Horn.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Vian Assembly of God with burial at Garden of Memories cemetery in Vian under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by her husband, Norman; a stepdaughter, Deborah L. Siffing of Sallisaw; five sons, Earl Allen Horn of Muldrow, Bill D. and Gary Don Horn, both of Huntington, Kenneth G. Horn of Mansfield, and Michael Lynn Horn of Van Buren; a sister, Betty Haney of Freemont, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James, Luke and David Horn, Squirrel Croslin, Ronnie Howard and Herb Dennis.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ernest Lee
WEST MAYSVILLE, Okla. — Ernest W. Lee, 65, of West Maysville, Okla., died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in Grove, Okla. He was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Buffalo, N.Y. He was an Army veteran and a member of Independent Baptist Church and a missionary in Korea from 1970 to 1983.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Independent Baptist Church with burial at Mountain View cemetery near Fort Smith under the direction of Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Alma; three daughters, Kimberly McCawley of Fayetteville, Judith A. Collins and Rebekah Lynn Wilson, both of Fort Smith; three sons, William E. Lee of Oklahoma City, Albert Frank Lee and Robert E. Lee, both of Siloam Spring; a sister, Rita Ertel of Clarence Center, N.Y.; a brother, Donald W. Lee of Orchard Park, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The family will visit with friends at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Park Bolling
Park J. Bolling, 86, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Fort Smith. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a retired salesman for Sears, a member of First United Methodist Church and the Gleaner’s Sunday school class. He was the widower of Anna Mae Bolling.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a son, Jay Bolling of Little Rock; a grandson, Joseph Park Bolling of Little Rock.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Howard Harrell
ROLAND — Howard Wayne Harrell, 61, of Roland died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in Roland. He was a graduate of Roland High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University in 1959 and a master’s degree from NSU in 1972. He received an administrative certificate from Extended Study at University of Arkansas. He was a superintendent of Roland Public Schools. He taught school for 1969 to 2001 in Muldrow, Red Oak, Alluwe, Henryetta and Roland, past commander of American Legion in Roland, active in Lions Club, COSSA and Roland Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Akins cemetery northeast of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; four daughters, Kelly Ann Bartholomay, Deloris Hearn, Memorie Ellen Harrell and Jennifer Marie Lane, all of Roland; his mother, Daisy Harrell of Roland; two brothers, Ronald Dean Harrell of Little Rock, and Louis McCarthy of Topeka, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Harrell Scholarship Fund at First National Bank in Roland, Okla.

Carol Gilbreath
GREENWOOD — Carol Gilbreath, 61, of Greenwood died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was retired from Farmer’s Bank and a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Greenwood United Methodist Church with burial at Liberty cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; two daughters, Marilyn Bair and Jennifer Gilbreath, both of Fort Smith; a son, Phillip Gilbreath of Siloam Springs; her mother, Tracy Woods of Greenwood; a sister, Carmen Nelson of Charlo, Mont.; a brother, James A. Woods of Witcherville; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Pat Warrick, Cleve Gipson, Donald Hurt, Dallas Gilbreath Jr., Larry Williams, Paul Wade Dunn, Stanhope Wilkinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Now and Then Sunday school class.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Thomas Thrift
GREENWOOD — Thomas Eldridge Thrift, 74, of Greenwood died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in his home. He was a retired Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and was retired from Whirlpool, a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church in Greenwood with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Melba Jo; a son, Rick Thrift of Greenwood; a brother, Jim Thrift of Greenwood; two grandchildren, Carrie Townsend and Tracy Curry, and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David and Sam Martin, Paul Turner, Steve Peoples, Ed Decroo and Terry Hamilton.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Anita Jean Moore
Anita Jean Moore, 60, of Fort Smith died Monday, July 30, 2001, in her home. She was born March 5, 1941. She was a homemaker.
The body was cremated under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary. Memorial service will be 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in Short, Okla. For further information, call 806-7836.
She is survived by a son, Billy Kipp Moore of Fort Smith; and a friend, Billy Slats Neal of Fort Smith.
