John Whitfield
MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Dr. John G. Whitfield, 83, of Muskogee died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Muskogee. He was a member of Saint James Baptist Church in Fort Smith and a graduate of Lincoln High School. He studied at the Arkansas Baptist College at Little Rock and Liberty Baptist College at Muskogee. He further studied at the Oklahoma School of Religion and received his doctorate in compared religion from the Universal Life University in North Carolina. He pastored churches in Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, North Carolina and South Carolina and was the founder of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gastonia, N.C.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ragsdale Mortuary of Muskogee.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthis Tarr and Arvella and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Bradley, Danny Augustus, Russell Cole, Chris Christian, Melvin Gray, James McDade and Chuck Wanton.
The body may be viewed from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be ministers.
The family will visit with friends at 1501 May Ave.

Nora Little
SILOAM SPRINGS — Nora Easley Little, 83, of Siloam Springs, formerly of Clarksville, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, in Siloam Springs. She was a homemaker, a teacher and a member of First Methodist Church, What So Evers Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and Faith Hope Circle.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roller-Cox Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Todd of Siloam Springs; two grandsons, Jason Cash of Russellville and Nathan Cash of Greenwood, Miss.; a sister, Gustava Easley of Albuquerque, N.M.; three brothers, Dr. G.T. Easley of Sulphur, Okla., Vernon Easley of Albuquerque and Gayle Easley of Saratoga, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Martin R. Howard, Eddie Brinks, Jack Phillips, Bob Oden, the Rev. Leo Villines and Harold Lewis.
Memorial contributions may be made to “Friends of Hospice”, Washington Regional Medical Center, 4241 Gabel Drive, Fayetteville, AR 72703.

Chester Evans
Chester A. Evans, 83, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in a local nursing home. He was in personnel management with the Navy department and the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C. He was a retired commander, Naval Reserve, serving in World War II in the both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After he retired from the service, he was on the faculty at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D., and Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Dec. 17 in Faith Presbyterian Church in Seminole, Fla., with burial at a later date at Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va., under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three daughters, Patricia Wright of Nashville, Tenn., Kathryn Humphrey of Boulder, Colo., and Mary Woolner of Oakton, Va.; and three grandchildren, Morgan and MacKinzie Woolner and Lindsey Wright.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tampa Bay Alzheimer’s Association, 2700 N. MacDill Ave.

Leon Baker
WALDRON — Leon Baker, 65, of Waldron died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Waldron. He was a retired construction worker, a veteran of the Air Force honor guard and attended Waldron Pentecostal Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Waldron Pentecostal Church of God with burial at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Amerson cemetery in Pencil Bluff under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Wharton of Waldron; a son, Mark of Collinsville, Okla.; a great aunt, Marie Miller of Southerlin, Ore., and a niece, Jane Armstrong of Pottsville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Shane Richardson, Brian Newman, Billy Bunch, Mark Baker II, Charles Holbrook and James Long.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Bobby Cabe
WALDRON — Bobby Harrel Cabe, 63, of Waldron died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in a Waldron hospital. He was a member and deacon of Temple Baptist Church, retired from the Waldron Furniture factory and a poultry grower.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Sehorn cemetery in Winfield.
He is survived by a daughter, Vickie Carter of Waldron; two sons, Harell and David, both of Waldron; a sister, Hazel Frost of Waldron; three brothers, Earoll and Bill, both of Waldron, and T.C. of Poteau; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Cabe, Gary Shaddon, Chuch Swafford, Wesley Patton, David Byford, Caleb Free and James and Rick Smith.

Doris Baysinger
BOONEVILLE — Doris Irene Baysinger, 50, of Booneville died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in an area hospital.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Resthaven Park Mortuary with burial at East Resthaven Park cemetery in Phoenix. Local arrangements are under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
She is survived by her husband, Rick; two daughters, Carolyn Sue and Bobbi Jo, both of the home; a son, Raymond Hedges of Booneville; his mother, Margurite Hedges of Goodyear, Ariz.; four sisters, Shirley Knox of Litchfield Park, Ariz., Glenda Chamberlin and Carol West, both of Goodyear, and Kathy Beebe of Waddell, Ariz.; two brothers, Don Hedges of Phoenix and John Hedges of Globe, Ariz.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Roy McElyea
MULDROW — Roy L. McElyea, 68, of Muldrow died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in Muldrow. He boxed in the Golden Gloves organization and in the Army.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Cottonwood Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Cottonwood cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by a daughter, Angela McElyea of Oklahoma City; a son Eric of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Helen Stump, Charlene Matlock and Polly Taff, all of Muldrow; a brother, Harold of Muldrow; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Cruz, Robert Mack, Doyle McDonald and Billy, Clint and Gary McElyea.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Virgil Manning
NORTH LITTLE ROCK — Virgil Louis Manning, 76, of North Little Rock died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in a Little Rock hospital. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burkburnett, Texas, and was a retired Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday with full military honors at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Charles of North Little Rock; and a brother, Edmond Manning of Shelton, Ore.
Pallbearers will be military.

A.A. Cook
A.A. Cook, 90, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in his home. He was retired from the automobile business, a member of Park Hill Church of Christ, an Army veteran of World War II and the widower of Venoice Chuckie Cook.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Monday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a sister, Marlene Stewart of Little Rock and a brother M.L. of Houston.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral Monday.

Virgil Louis Manning
Virgil Louis Manning, 76, of North Little Rock died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in a Little Rock hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Burkburnett, Texas, and was a retired Air Force veteran of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mattie Hohmann, Lucille Allen and Margie Manning; and three brothers, Frank, John and Buddy Manning.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Manning of the home; a son, Charles Manning of North Little Rock; and a brother, Edmond Manning of Shelton, Ore.
Pallbearers will be military.

James Walter Sexton
James Walter Sexton, 80, of Van Buren died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a retired furniture dealer and a member of Sunnyside Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie; a daughter, Carolyn Paredes of Holister, Calif.; five sons, James Wendell Sexton of Holister, Calif., David, Rick and Steve Sexton, all of Van Buren, and Darrell Sexton of Richmond, Texas; three sisters, Edna Moore and Betty Brown, both of Holister, Calif., and Geneva Ferrell of Salinas, Calif.; a brother, Paul Sexton of Salinas, Calif.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Travis, David, Darrell, Rick, Steve and James Wendell Sexton.

Allie McConnell
MENA — Allie Mae McConnell, 89, of Mena died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in a Hot Springs hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Duncan cemetery in Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary McConnell of Burleson, Texas, and Louise Willis of Apopka, Fla.; a son, Harley McConnell of Brownville, Calif.; 36 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Harold Bishop Sr.
LAMAR — Harold N. Bishop Sr., 87, of Lamar died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, in his home. He was born Aug. 11, 1914, in Hartman. He was a graduate of Hartman High School and a retired worker of Redondo Tile of Redondo Beach, Calif., a retired coal miner and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Clarksville.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday in Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with burial at Hays Chapel cemetery in Clarksville.
He is survived by three daughters, Donna McKinney of New Orleans, Karen Bishop of Cypress, Calif., and Betty Lange of Chicago; a son Harold “Butch” Bishop of Lamar; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kevin McKinney, Tony Vincenti, Robert Sexton, Henry Serio and Jim Smith.

Mary Phillips
PARIS — Mary Sue Phillips, 66, of Paris died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Booneville. She was a member of Cedar Grove Pentecostal Church in Paris.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Cedar Grove Pentecostal Church with burial at Cedar Grove cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; two daughters, Wilma Crossno of Muldrow and Carol Ruth Adair of Booneville; two sons, Gerald Dean Phillips Jr. of Booneville and Jackie Allen Phillips of Paris; three sisters, Olive Dietrick and Dorothy Barnes, both of Booneville and Linda of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Barbara Hensley
HINTON, Okla. — Barbara Gean Horton Hensley, 63, of Hinton, Okla., died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001. She was born May 23, 1938, in Booneville. She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Victory Baptist Church in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Martha Craig of Lone Wolf, Okla., and Mary Williams of Booneville; a son, Martin Kenneth Johnston of El Reno, Okla.; her mother, Marie Morris of Booneville; a sister, Debbie McClure of Booneville; two brothers, Rick Morris of Booneville and Eddie Morris of Blue Mountain; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
