WALDRON — Wilma Sue Metcalf, 71, of Waldron died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker and attended Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church with burial at Square Rock cemetery in Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
She is survived by three daughters, Belinda Canada of Waldron, Sheila Bane of Van Buren and Rhonda Deer of Nashville; five sons, Larry of Waldron, Tommy of Bluffton, David of Germany, Henry of Fort Smith and Scottie of Booneville; a sister, Nemo Grammer of Booneville; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a companion, S.H. Metcalf and a special friend, T.H. Stuart.
The body may be viewed 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Baxter Phillips
PARKS — Baxter Phillips, 74, of Parks died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in a Hot Springs hospital. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter and farmer and attended the Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Hawkins cemetery in Parks.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; and two nieces.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Willie R. Allen
Willie R. Allen, 96, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was a retired mechanic for International Harvester and a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a former volunteer for the Fort Smith Boys Clubs. He was the widower of Eva Allen.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a son, James Allen and his wife, Shu Lin of San Antonio; a son-in-law, Samuel Truett of Fort Smith; two sisters, Edna Miller of Brookhaven, Miss., and Evelyn Douglas of Crystal Springs, Miss.; two brothers, John Robert Allen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charles Allen of Archibald, La.; nine grandchildren, Janet Shahan of Van Buren, Frances “Casey” Hulsey of Greenwood, David and Scott Truett, Sammie Jo LaTour and Toni Odom, all of Fort Smith, Eva Neldner of Torrance, Calif., Mary Parker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and John Allen of San Antonio; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Greg Caughman, Sam, David and Scott Truett, James Hulsey, Les Odom, Jackie Lewis and Justin Haller.
Darlene G. Daymude
Darlene G. Daymude, 51, of Paris died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a receptionist for a medical clinic.
Funeral was held Jan. 17 in Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris officiated by the Rev. Angelo Florenciano with burial at Oakwood cemetery in Paris.
She is survived by her friend and companion, Wanda Owen of Paris; a daughter, Connie of Virginia; and a grandson, Anthony of Virginia.
Pallbearers were John Forst, Charles Wilson, Don, Donnie and Daniel Stinnett and Ashley Appleton.
Jesse W. “Bill” Story
“The Dam Builder” Jesse W. “Bill” Story, 89, of Ozark died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born March 29, 1912, in Pine Grove, La., to Jesse Winfield Story and Mary Edna King. He was a retired civil engineer, a member of First United Methodist Church in Ozark, a member of Trustee’s Administration Board, the Taylor Sunday School class, the Louisiana Engineering Society and the N.A.R.F. He was a graduate of L.S.U. in 1935 and a lieutenant colonel in the Army.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Ozark First United Methodist Church with burial at Highland cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark officiated by the Revs. Vaughn Marsden and Tom Babington.
He is survived by his wife, Freda Richardson Story in Ozark; two daughters and sons-in-law, Trish and Wallace Alston of Ozark and Margaret and Shaler Wells of New Orleans; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Gaila Story of Ozark; a brother, Willard Story of Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren, Matt and Shaler Wells, Kayla and Jessica Story and Ashley Alston.
Pallbearers will be Gary McGlothin, John Noggle, John Burns Jr., Jim Mainard, Tom White and Ken Warden.
Honorary pallbearers will be the administrative board of Ozark First United Methodist Church.

John Brainerd
John E. “Pop” Brainerd, 74, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a veteran of World War II, the 
Korean War and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was an Episcopalian, a former commissioner of Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball and a member of the American Legion, Westark Century Club. He was the voice of the baseball Lions. He received the Mayor’s Spirit of the Frontier Award in 1998 and in his honor the “Pop” Brainerd Invitational American Legion Tournament is sponsored by the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, formerly Westark Community College.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Dona; a son, John G. Brainerd of Conway; two brothers, Merl Brainerd of Phoenix and DeForrest Brainerd of El Campo, Texas; two grandchildren, Lori Kaye Brainerd of Little Rock and Johnathon Brent Brainerd of Conway.

Lola Hale, 97, of Van Buren, formerly of Russellville, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Van Buren. She was born Jan. 4, 1905, in Tilly. She was a homemaker and a Missionary Baptist. She was the widow of William “Bill” Hale.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Langford cemetery in Scottsville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Home of Russellville.
She is survived by two daughters, Lucy Smith and Reba Hale, both of Van Buren; four grandchildren, Gary and Ronnie Smith, Shirley Wesley and Cindy Gartrell; eight great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
There will be an open visitation from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Rose Blake
NOCONA, Texas — Rose Zetta Blake, 93, of Nocona, Texas, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Nocona. She was born Aug. 8, 1908, in Spanish Fort, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona, Texas. She was the widow of John Edward Blake.
Funeral was held Monday in Scott Morris Funeral Home in Nocona, Texas, with burial at Molsbee Chapel cemetery.
She is survived by her children, Louise Belcher, Willie Mae Henry and Floy Ames, all of Nocona, Texas, Loy Bowman of Fort Smith and Johny T. Blake of Winona, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Ruby Coffman
LAMAR — Ruby Marie Young Coffman, 88, of Lamar died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Clarksville. She was a retired secretary and a member of First United Methodist Church in Clarksville, organizing regent of the Clarksville Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution Colonial Dames, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims and the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Harry Coffman.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church in Clarksville with burial at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by two nephews, Steve Eggensperger of Cabot and Charles Pitts of Plano, Texas; a cousin, Minnie Lou Casey of Russellville.
Pallbearers will be Bill Porter, Keith Lewis, Jack Cecil, David Morgan, Lee White and Robert Ed Farris.

CLARKSVILLE — Josie Emaline Willis Robinson, 95, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in her home. She was a homemaker and was Assembly of God faith. She was the widow of George Robinson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Porter cemetery in Hunt.
She is survived by three daughters, Ruby Young of Clarksville, Glenda Greenham of Harrison and Hazel Madewell of Lamar; a son, Lawrence Robinson of Coal Hill; 12 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Everett, James, Bill, Claud, Larry and George Willis.

PANAMA — Glen Allen Clemons, 49, of Panama died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in Panama.
Private family service will be at a later date. Burial will be at New Hope cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
He is survived by two sisters, Dortha Leech of Niles, Mich., and Linda Szody of Rodeo, Calif.; four brothers, Donald Clemons of Rodeo, Calif., Bob Clemons of Suisan, Calif., Edward Gene Clemons of Delta Junction, Alaska, and Ron Clemons of Panama.

LAMAR — Victor Childers, 89, of Lamar died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was born Dec. 3, 1912, in Lamar. He was a retired farmer and cattleman, retired from Con Agra and a member of Lamar Masonic Lodge No. 362. He was the widower of Mildred Childers.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Lamar cemetery in Lamar.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Albertson of Russellville; a brother, Earl Childers of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Jackie Whiteturkey of Lamar, Janet Nimrod of Denver, Teri Crawford of Benton and Steve Childers of Magnet Cove and four great-grandchildren.

Howard Underwood
SPIRO — Howard Hugh Underwood, 71, of Spiro died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a Navy veteran and a real estate agent with Marsha Rogers Realty in Spiro. He coached basketball for 34 years at Hanna, Monroe, Keota, Spiro and Panama, was inducted in the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame and was a member of Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association and a member of Spiro First Baptist Church. He was a junior high principal for many years and owned and operated a service station at Sunset Corner.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Spiro First Baptist Church with burial at Spiro City cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
He is survived by his wife, Dollie; a daughter, Rhonda Poulson of Conway; a son, Stephen Underwood of Spiro; three sisters, Marian Wright of Dallas, Betty Allbritton of Spiro and Bonnie Pendleton of Pocola; three brothers, Charles Underwood of Newalla, Okla., Joe Underwood of Panama and Jimmie Underwood of Spiro; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Enie Tobler, Tommy Roberson, Bill Greenwood, Robert Sheffield, Bill Mills, Newell Atkinson and Rucker Blankenship.

HARTMAN — Buster Herbert Harris, 83, of Hartman died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in Russellville. He was a union laborer and a member of VFW and the Laborers Local No. 107 and was Pentecostal. He was the widower of Bernice Newberry Harris.

He is survived by two daughters, Shelia Willcutt of Clarksville and Loutisha Dalton of Dover; a son, Billy “Bear” Harris of Altus; a brother, John Harris of Shafter, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Mark, Steve and Geoffery Dalton, all of Dover, David Dalton of London, Sara Willcutt and B.J. Harris, both of Clarksville, Damon Willcutt of Mulberry and April Collins of Lamar and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James; a son, Charles Bingham of Carrollton, Texas; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Ansley of Seattle, Marilyn Atkerson of El Centro, Calif. and Linda Melton of Alma; two stepsons, Jimmie A. Tucker of Mesa, Ariz., and Jerry W. Tucker of Renton, Wash.; a sister, Ruby Rodriquez of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, 19 stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
