Ira B. Rainwater
Ira B. Rainwater, 83, of Fort Smith, formerly of Paris, died Monday, June 24, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was retired from the Civil Service, a member of First Baptist Church in Paris, a deacon, Sunday school teacher and a faithful member. He was an Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of the “Jolly Roger Unit.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Ozie Marion and Dora Rosetta Rollans Rainwater, a sister, Isa Rainwater, a brother, Cyrus Rainwater and his wife, Bobbi Powers Rainwater.
Graveside and burial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Rainwater Kury of Fort Smith; two sisters, Elsie Baker and Loneta Kelly, both of Tulsa.
Pallbearers will be Leo Rainwater, Finis Featherston, Archie Clayton Jr., Frankie Jarrard and Charles Fels.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Velva Alston
OZARK — Velva Marie Powell Alston, 90, of Ozark died Sunday, June 23, 2002, in Ozark. She was a homemaker and the widow of Ras Alston.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery in Ozark.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Gilbreth of Bartlesville, Okla.; a son, Jack Alston of Ozark; two sisters, Doris Jackson of Riverside, Calif., and Shirley Halopoff of Huntington Beach, Calif.; three brothers, Clifton Powell of Arlington, Texas, W.R. Powell of Ozark and Charles Powell of Little Rock; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Glen Wyatt
HEAVENER — Glen Wyatt, 80, of Heavener died Monday, June 24, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a retired butcher and a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Memorial Park in Heavener.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; nine daughters, Carolyn Clubb of Poteau, Karen Pottridge and Bonnie Crosby, both of Austin, Texas, Jeanette Neal of Fort Smith, Tere Hammond of Tulsa, Nita McClain of Heavener, Julie Koehn of Oklahoma City, Laura Kosal of Turkey and Shirley Hansen of Van Buren; six sons, Mickey Wyatt of Watonga, Okla., Rick Wyatt of Pawhuska, Okla., Ron Amack of Chadron, Neb., Anthony Wyatt of Ponca City, Okla., John Ray of Claremore, Okla., and David Ray of Germany; a sister, Severns of Norton, Kan.; a brother, Raymond Wyatt of Bella Vista; 32 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dale Thompson
BATES — Dale Edward Thompson, 74, of Bates died Thursday, June 20, 2002, in his home. He was a World War II veteran, an employee of Crane Plumbing Company for 38 years and owner and operator of River Oak Charlois Ranch.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron.
He is survived by his wife, Eupha; a daughter, Beth Roberts of Barling; a son, Scott Thompson of Fort Smith; his mother, Beatrice Thompson of Waldron; three sisters, Delores Tolbert of Howe, Geneva Cook of Mesa, Ariz., and Kathy Sosa of Fort Smith; three brothers, M.D. Thompson of Mena, Steve and Dewayne Thompson, both of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren.
Roy Jackson
ELLINGTON, Mo. — Roy E. Jackson, 75, of Ellington, Mo. died Sunday, June 23, 2002. He was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Ellington, Mo. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Funeral was Tuesday at McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellington, Mo., with burial at Ellington City cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Mary C. Smalley; three sons, Robert E., Douglas D. and Michael R. Jackson; two sisters, Janet B. Martin and Judith K. Robinson; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Violet Matthews
EL PASO, Texas — Violet Langston Matthews, 79, of El Paso, Texas died Sunday, June 23, 2002. She was born Nov. 28, 1922, in Hartman. She graduated as a registered nurse from St. Edwards School of Nursing in Fort Smith in 1944 and served in the Army as a first lieutenant from 1945 to 1947 and as captain from 1948 to 1953. She was a veteran of World War II and the Korean wars. She received the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Army of Occupational Medal (Japan), the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Ribbon. She was a head nurse in the maternal and child health nursing section at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas. She retired from civil service after 30 years.
Funeral service will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Restlawn Funeral Home of El Paso, Texas.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Lynne Hoobler; four grandchildren, Tiffany Ruiz, William Hoobler Jr., Mandilyn Matthews and Jacquilyn Matthews; and three great grandchildren, Adrian, Azsa and Anthony Ruiz.

Helen Crowder
Helen F. Crowder, 78, of Fort Smith died Saturday, June 22, 2002, in Farmersville, Mo. She was a member of Rye Hill Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday school class.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Rye Hill Baptist Church with burial at Steep Hill cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Sheets of Fort Smith, Linda White of Farmersville, Ill. and Sherry Ard of Monroeville, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Mike, Neal and Clay McGill, Brian and Adam White, Ben, Chris and Rebekah Ard and Meredith Jones and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Mike, Neal and Clay McGill, Brian and Adam White and Ben and Chris Ard.

L.B. Burris
KEOTA — L.B. Burris, 87, of Keota died Sunday, June 23, 2002, in Shawnee, Okla. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a businessman in mercantile and cattle operations, a member of Keota First Baptist Church, the Lions Club and received his 50-year pin as a Master Mason. He was the widower of Blanche Burris.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Keota First Baptist Church with burial at Old Cache cemetery in Keota under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence and Allen Burris, both of Keota; two sisters, Helen Lowe of Spiro and Pat Lara of Houston; seven grandchildren, Becky, Afton and Lisa Burris, Misti Burris Lowther and Tammy Hutchison, Allen D. and Corbin J. Burris; one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Bill Mills, Frank Wiles, Charles Carry, Herbert Owens, Enos Semore, Doug and J.C. Foster and Bill Sparks.
Rose Cuellar
SHAWNEE, Okla. — Rose Mary Cuellar, 66, of Shawnee, Okla. died Monday, June 24, 2002. She was born June 6, 1936, in Okmulgee, Okla. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Okmulgee .She was a homemaker and volunteered at St. Benedicts School for several years, worked at St. Gregory’s College in the maintenance department for nine years and was a member of St. Benedicts Church and the Alter Society.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Benedicts Catholic Church with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel of Shawnee, Okla.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; five children, Lloyd Cuellar of Newcastle, Okla., Howie Blocker of Prague, Okla., Jay Cuellar of Fort Smith, Margie Wren and Robbie Cuellar, both of Shawnee, Okla.; four sisters, Mary Catherine Banks of Maine, Margaret Service of Lamont, Okla., Liz Calsing of Ada, Okla., and Mary Gautier of Galveston, Texas; a brother, Tom Lunney of McLoud, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

BOARD CAMP — Audrey Martin “A.M.” Young, 70, of Board Camp died Sunday, June 2, 2002, in his home. He was born Nov. 12, 1931, in Ben Wheeler, Texas. He served in the Air Corps and was a driller in the oil industry. He was the widower of Dorthy Young.
Due to his wishes there will be no service. Arrangements are under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Dossey, Audrey Katson and Peggy McLean, all of Murchison, Texas, and Kathleen Bearden of Malakoff, Texas; two sisters, Wenza Loving of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Alice Barnett of Ben Wheeler, Texas; a brother, Jeff Young of Tyler, Texas; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ruby Traw
POTEAU — Ruby Elizabeth Traw, 95, of Poteau died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Poteau. She was born Dec. 3, 1906, in Pulaski, Mo. She was a homemaker and a seamstress, a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and a member of First United Methodist Church in Poteau.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Wister City cemetery.
She is survived by a sister, Daphne Plummer of Poteau; a sister-in-law, Cleo Traw and seven nieces and nephews.
Lorraine Thayer
PARIS — Lorraine Douglas Thayer, 83, of Paris died Monday, June 24, 2002, in Paris. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was the widow of Paul Thayer.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony’s cemetery in Caulksville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
She is survived by two daughters, Paula Thayer of Kent, Wash., and Lois Gino of San Auselmo, Calif.; a son, Douglas Thayer of Havana; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Oma Mae Moore, 87, of Fort Smith died Sunday, June 23, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Bluff Avenue Baptist Church. She was the widow of Orville Moore.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Bateman and Wanda Morris, both of Fort Smith; a son, Jim Moore of Folsom, Calif.; three grandchildren, Dion Watson of Little Rock, Bob Bateman Jr. of Fort Smith and James Moore of Orangevale, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Ted Napier of Booneville; and two grandchildren, Cassi and Christian.

Ivan Hunter
MULBERRY — Ivan H. Hunter, 78, of Mulberry died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Mulberry. He was a retired chief petty officer for the Navy and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Eastern Star Remy Lodge No. 260. He was the widower of Violet Hunter.
The body will be cremated and there will be a private interment at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Pearson of Fort Smith; three grandchildren, Ivan Murphy of Springfield, Mo., and Shawn and Eric Murphy, both of Fort Smith and four great-grandchildren.
