Helen Harvey
Helen Jo Harvey, 71, died Monday, June 24, 2002, in a Little Rock hospital. She was born May 21, 1931, in Mena.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Nunley cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
She is survived by three children, Angeli Harvey of Sherwood, Chris Fisher of Hot Springs and Marty Harvey of Mena; three sisters, Geneva Titsworth Young of Michigan, Jan Titsworth-Sanchez of Mena and Kathy Stephens of Prattsville; four brothers, N.C. Titsworth of DeQueen and Darrell, John and Buck Titsworth, all of Mena; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Art Hoover, Keith and John Titsworth Jr., Brian Simpson, Judd Morrow and Randolph Emerson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Research Program at Arkansas Cancer Research Center at the U of A Medical Center in Little Rock or the charity of donor’s choice.
James Edward “Buddy” Cowan Jr.
James Edward “Buddy” Cowan Jr., 43, of Greenwood died Monday, July 29, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a former employee of Butler and Cook of Fort Smith and West-Ark Material Handlers of Mulberry and a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Steep Hill cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Sara Ann Cozort of Greenwood; a son, Jeremy Cowan of Alma; his parents, Tom and Shirley Huber of Greenwood and James and Bertha Cowan of Midland; three sisters, Sheryl Bell of Greenwood, Angel Cowan and Angela Lanman, both of Midland; a brother, Terry Cowan of Fort Smith; a stepbrother, Douglas Huber of Tulsa; and a stepgranddaughter.
Pallbearers will be James Bell, Chuck Pachl, Tony Waters, Wyatt Maness, Terry Chestnut and Robert Kelsy.
Clara Jones Lowe
Clara Jones Lowe, a longtime resident of Lakewood in North Little Rock, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1908, at New Blaine Logan County, the daughter of James Larkin Jones and Lillie Darnon Jones.
She was a retired school teacher having taught at Paris and at Lakewood Elementary in North Little Rock. She was a graduate of Arkansas Polytechnic College (Arkansas Tech University) at Russellville and Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA) at Conway.
Mrs. Lowe lived in Lakewood for many years but failing health necessitated moving to Good Shepherd Retirement Center and later to Lakewood Plaza Nursing Facility. She always seemed to accept whatever fate was her lot and her dry wit was well known.
In 1938, she married
Sylvan Lowe, a building contractor. Although not blessed with children, she thought of the hundreds of elementary students that she had taught as her own. At the close of World War II they moved to North Little Rock and he began building homes and they established Sylvan Lowe Realty in Park Hill. Mrs. Lowe continued teaching and sold real estate on weekends and during the summer. In 1961, Mrs. Lowe was left a widow. After retirement, she was a regular volunteer at North Little Rock Memorial Hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Ambassadors Sunday school class.
Survivors include a nephew, LeMoyne Jones of North Little Rock; three nieces, Wanda Ackerman of Hemet, Calif., Margie Doom of Tucson, Ariz., and Betty Jones of Gilmer, Texas.
Graveside service will bee 11 a.m. Friday at Elizabeth Hall cemetery in New Blaine.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at North Little Rock Funeral Home of North Little Rock.

Mary McElhaney
Mary McElhaney, 50, of Paris died Monday, July 29, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a member of Paris Christian Center.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Paris Christian Center with burial at Baxley cemetery in Paris with the Rev. Angelo Florenciano officiating under the direction of Murry Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel McElhaney of Paris; two daughters, Stephanie Vera McElhaney of Paris and Bobbi Palumbo of Chicago; five sons, Helmut Bondarew, Anthony Perez and Paul Palumbo, all of Chicago, Kenneth and Samuel McElhaney Jr., both of Paris; her mother, Betty Storts of Dyerburg, Tenn.; nine sisters, Liz, Janet, Dawn, Tenny, Tina, Linda, Tammy, Jessie and Maggie Storts, all of Chicago; three brothers, Charles, Albert and Daniel Storts, all of Chicago; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Perez, Helmut Bondarew, Daniel Storts, Charles Jackson, Ray Cameron and David Krighaun Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Verhin Stevens and James Grady.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arlis Dotson Sr.
SUBIACO — Arlis F. Dotson Sr., 80, of Subiaco died Monday, July 29, 2002, in Paris. He graduated from Paris High School in 1940 and attended Freed Hardiman College in Henderson, Tenn., was an Army veteran of World War II in the European Theater of the war, a retired sales manager for a farm equipment company, a member of Midway Assembly of God and the VFW Post No. 8383.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Midway Assembly of God with burial at Horn cemetery in Midway under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by six daughters, Dana Proffer of Grand Rapids, Mich., Dorothy Overman of Flint, Mich., Suzy Perinne of Las Vegas, Dejon Kincer of Schertz, Texas, Diana Debolt of Midwest City, Okla., and Debbie Otto of Oklahoma City; a son, Arlis Dotson Jr. of Davison, Mich.; two sisters, Atha M. Inman and Anna Smedley, both of Clarksville; a brother, Ray Dotson of Monet, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special friend, Carolyn Bowen of Booneville.
Pallbearers will be Dennis and Doug Lowe, James Horne, Lindel Parsons, Curtis Varnell and Gordon Trusty.

Billy Amonsin
Billy Amonsin, 60, of Van Buren died Friday, July 26, 2002, in his home. He was born May 10, 1942, in Uborn, Thailand. He was the Laotian pastor at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Kim; a daughter, Leanne Amonsin of Van Buren; five sons, Kieth and Phanith Amonsin, both of Lafayette, La., Steve and Laban Amonsin, both of Van Buren and Trong Amonsin of Fort Smith; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Keith, Steve, Phanith, Trong and Laban Amonsin and Eric Meuangmany.
Doris Clark
LAMAR — Doris Jean Neely Clark, 59, of Lamar died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Fort Smith. She was a nurses aide, a member of American Legion Auxiliary, member and past commander of Ladies Auxiliary DAV and attended Jamestown Assembly of God. She was the widow of Lavon Clark.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Annie’s Chapel cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Chavers of Lamar; two sons, Robert Clark of Clarksville and Donald Clark of Lutherville; her mother, Minnie Doris Boone of Clarksville; two sisters, Joann Hill and Katherine Sue Allen, both of Clarksville; a brother, the Rev. Charles Boone of Clarksville; four grandchildren; and a friend, Carlson Ainslie of Salus.

Farris Privitt
LAMAR — Farris C. Privitt, 91, of Lamar died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in his home. He was a retired from construction, an iron worker and of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Holman cemetery in Lamar.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Sparkman of Clarksville and Hilda Carman of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons, Robert H. Privitt of Thousand Oaks, Calif. and John E. Privitt of California; a sister, Laura Lawrence of Roseville, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Beulah Waits
SUMMERFIELD — Beulah Ann Waits, 88, of Summerfield died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Fort Smith, She was born Aug. 10, 1913. She was a homemaker and the widow of Willie Waits.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Summerfield with burial at Oakland cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by a son, Wilburn Waits of Summerfield; a brother, Willie Schaffer of Brownsville; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rick and Tommy Wheat, Scotty, Tracey, Stanley and Johnny Loyd.
Okla Azevedo
MODESTO, Calif. — Okla Pendergrass Azevedo, 87, of Modesto died Wednesday, May 29, 2002. She was born March 11, 1915, in Maple, Okla. She was a cook for more than 40 years at the Bee Hive Restaurant and a member of the Baptist Church. She was the widow of Jack Azevedo.

SUBIACO — Justin Jacob Duerr, 90, of Subiaco died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Paris. He was a retired coal miner and welder, a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco and United Mine Workers.
Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. today at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco.
Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco with burial at St. Joseph cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; three daughters, Doris Ann Dobbs of Tulsa, Helen Marie Hays of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Mary Frances Wooton of Wamego, Kan.; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Tai Van Dang, 42, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 11, 1959, in Vietnam. He was an employee of Riverside Furniture and of the Buddhist faith.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Suong Tran; two daughters, Quyen and Tina Dang, both of Fort Smith; a son, Hoang Dang of Fort Smith; his mother, Bo Tran of Kansas; two sisters, Tien Dang of Kansas and Nga Dang of Maryland; and a brother, Hung Dang of Kansas.

John Barnett
John “Sonny” Barnett, 62, of Fort Smith died Monday, July 29, 2002, in his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1939, in Conway. He was a landscaper.

He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Oliverio of Bakersfield, Calif.; a son, David Barnett of Norwalk, Calif.; his mother, Marzee Barnett of Fort Smith; six sisters, June Curry and Betty Stone, both of Fort Smith, Shirley Turnage and Johnnie Sue Turnage, both of Greenwood, Sheila Van Sandt and Kay Thompson, both of Pineville, Mo.; a brother, John M. Barnett of Neosho, Mo.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

SPRINGDALE — Ruth Holt, 86, of Springdale died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Fayetteville. She was born Aug. 6, 1915, in Mulberry. She was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God in Springdale. She was the widow of Clarence Edward Holt.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Chapel of Backstrom-Pyeatee Funeral Home in Springdale with burial at Locke cemetery near Mountainburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Springston of Springdale and Sandra Harvey of Fayetteville; a sister, Imogene Orrick of Alma; a brother, Ted Davis of Garland, Texas; four grandchildren, Gena Neil and Angie Springston, both of Springdale, Melissa and Jennifer Smith, both of Fayetteville, and six great-grandchildren.
