Bruce Glidewell, 49, of Fort Smith died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was vice president of David’s Pie Shop, a member of Fraternal Order to the Eagles and was a Baptist.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores; a daughter, Mimi Adair of Greenwood; two sons, Jesse Glidewell of the home and Greg Glidewell of Fort Smith; his mother, Betty Glidewell of Fort Smith; and maternal grandmother, Juanita Carson of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Phil White, Kyle Newton, Easy Barber, Debbie and Ken Hatwig and Don Vest.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
James Littleton
POCOLA — James Lee Littleton, 66, of Pocola died Monday, July 29, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was the owner of James Littleton Motor Company and a member of Heritage Oaks Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Oaks Free Will Baptist Church in Barling with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Debbie McGhee of Pocola and Phyllis Wyers of Mulberry; four sons, Terry and Michael Littleton, both of Pocola, Ricky Littleton of Fort Smith and Brian Littleton of Greenwood; a stepson, Randy McGhee of Pocola; two sisters, Betty Lou Sorg of Illinois and Sylvia Cagle of Pocohontas; two brothers, Virgil Scott of Albuquerque, N.M., and Fred Scott of Chicago; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Harvey Carter, Burl Sangster, Larry Hadlock, Charles Jones, Billy Spears and Jerry Fowler.
Grovie Pugh
STIGLER — Grovie J. Pugh, 97, of Stigler died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Stigler. She was born Jan. 5. 1905, in Wister Indian Territory. She a homemaker and a member of Lafayette Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eastwood Assembly of God with burial at Antioch cemetery in Stigler under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by a daughter, Gail Brown of Stigler; three sons, Robert Pugh of Stigler, Lester and Jerry Pugh, both of Owasso, Okla.; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Larry, Billy Dale and James Pugh, Ronnie Edwards, and Monty Hendrix.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dorotha “Dot” Knight
Dorotha “Dot” Knight of Denver died Monday, July 22, 2002, in Denver. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Knight, a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith, Weight Control Workshops, Sparks Guild and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 50 years and was retired after 40 years as head bookkeeper for International Paper Company-Long Bell Division.
There was a private memorial service held in Denver. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Christy Hayes and her husband, Daniel Hayes of Denver; a sister, Louise Conklin of Denver.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert Hugh Binyon
Robert Hugh Binyon, 87, of Paris died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Paris. He was a retired coal miner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Mary Alice King Binyon.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today at Oakwood cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Faye Penicks Binyon of Paris; two daughters, Merelene Binyon of Dallas and Colene Binyon of Paris; a son, Lonnie Binyon of Charleston; three grandchildren, Eric and Chad Binyon and Sherry Drennan; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Binyon, Dakston and Dane Drennan; a nephew, Harold Dean Binyon of Fort Smith.
William Kyle “Bill” Bellamy
William Kyle “Bill” Bellamy was born Aug. 22, 1920 to Elsie and Kyle Bellamy in Surgoinsville, Tenn. Bill died in Round Rock, Texas on Wednesday, July 24, 2002.
Before moving to Oklahoma to manage The Thunderbird Ranch, he had managed Belk Department Stores in Tennessee and Kentucky.
Eight years ago he and his wife, the former Exine Strang of Lavaca moved to Round Rock, Texas to be with their new granddaughter, Victoria Rose. He joined their son, Gary in the Bellamy Appraisal Company.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Exine Strang Bellamy; a son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Cindy and granddaughter, Victoria Rose of Round Rock, Texas; a sister, Margaret Thomas and niece, Patsy Thomas of Rogersville, Tenn. He is also survived by many loving family members of the Lavaca Strang clan and Lapham family of Abilene, Texas.
Bill attended the Johnson County Tennessee Business College. He was first lieutenant in the Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Sebastian County Farm Bureau. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.
Funeral services were held at St. Philip’s United Methodist Church in Round Rock, Texas, on Saturday, July 27, 2002, conducted by the Rev. Terry Nelson under the direction of Beck Funeral Home of Austin, Texas.
Committal service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.

Wilbur W. Marston
Wilbur W. Marston, 63, of Mountainburg died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in his home. He was a resident of Mountainburg, a member and deacon of Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Roland, retired from Whirlpool and a Marine Corps Reserves veteran.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Locke cemetery in Mountainburg.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Marston of the home; two daughters, Brenda Miller of Mountainburg and Debra Christy of Alma; three sons, Kenneth Marston of Fort Smith, Anthony Marston of Lowell and Hank Gore of Van Buren; three sisters, Helen Mills of Oklahoma City, Faye McClurg and Mary Sharp, both of Van Buren; a brother, Oliver Marston of Mountainburg; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Miller, Hank Gore, Thomas Edge, Kenneth and Anthony Marston and Lonnie Aikins.
William Thomas “Bill” Prewett
William Thomas “Bill” Prewett, 44, of Booneville died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Booneville City Hospital. He was a member of the Booneville High School faculty, having been a science and math teacher for 14 years and it’s principal for three years. He had just last year returned to his first love, the classroom, as a fifth-grade science teacher. He received a master’s degree from Arkansas Tech University and his administration degree from Henderson State University.
Prewett had served on the Booneville Water Commission, Booneville City Council, Booneville Development Corporation and was a former member of the Lions Club. He had also served as a computer co-ordinator for the high school.
A member of the Heritage Addition Church of Christ in Booneville, he was actively involved with it’s youth programs. Bill will be remembered for his love of students and his emphasis on high moral values. He led by example, impacting the lives of all who knew him. His devotion to his faith and his family were exemplary.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Prewett; two daughters, Robin Elaine Prewett and Danielle Nicole Prewett, both of the home; his mother, Mary Nell Hogg Prewett of Booneville; a sister, Teresa Ann Prewett of Little Rock; a brother, David Earl Prewett of Russellville; a granddaughter, Allyson Paige Colclasure; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas “Pete” Prewett.
Pallbearers will be Kelly King, Jim Richardson, Steve Brown, Larry Dean Mitchell Jr. and Scottie Pearce.
Honorary pallbearers will include Richard Boersma, Roger Robertson and the faculty of Booneville’s High School and Middle School.

Richard “Dick” Johnson
Richard “Dick” Johnson, 66, of Fort Smith died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in a local hospital. He was retired from the Arkansas Air National Guard and Yellow Freight in Moore, Okla., and a former member and past president of Fort Smith Jaycees.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with burial with full military honors at Oak Hill cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Johnson of the home; two daughters, Kathy Shaffer of Ozark and Karen Woodruff of Gans; a son, Kenneth Johnson of Tulsa; four stepsons, James R., Ronny and David Stone, all of Booneville, and Mark Stone of Fort Smith; two sisters, Mary Ann Hayes and Debbie Tucker, both of Van Buren; a brother, Jim Johnson of Van Buren; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be the 188th Fighter Wing of the Arkansas Air National Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.

Anthony Vaughn Cooley II
Anthony Vaughn Cooley II, infant son of Shannon and Anthony Cooley of Van Buren, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Destynie Cooley of the home; his paternal grandparents, Roger and Ruth Cooley of Van Buren; maternal grandmother, Kathy Wagner of Van Buren, maternal grandfather, Darrell Kilgore of Fort Smith; maternal great-grandfather, Gene Dwyer of Mountainburg.

Verna Alice “Susie” Budil
Verna Alice “Susie” Budil, 97, of Paris died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Paris. She was a homemaker, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Paris and the Eastern Star and VFW. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Anna Murray Atchison and husband, Jim Budil.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with burial at Oakwood cemetery in Paris.
She is survived by three nephews, George Atchison of Fort Worth, Texas, Dean and Lois Henton of Utah and Jimmy Mack Curry of California; and a niece, Dorothy Lou Underhill of Paris.
Pallbearers will be James William, Tony and Robert Atchison, Ralph Reid, Larry Robberson and James Johnson.
David Shaver
David Shaver, 66, of Fort Smith died Monday, July 29, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1935, in New Boston, Texas. He was a customer service representative at Arkansas Truck Center in Alma and a former employee of Hale Truck, an Army veteran and a member of Spradling Baptist Church. Mr. Shaver was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Bryan Shaver, owner of Fort Smith Alterations. He and Alice attended Windsor Park Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; two daughters, Marie Shaver Campbell of Hancock, Maine, and Donna Carole Shaver Lovette of Lumberton, N.C.; one grandchild, Clairey Lovette; three sisters, Shirley Kennedy of New Boston, Texas, and Mary Son and Vonda Clark, both of Dekalb, Texas; four brothers, George of Branson, Mo., and James, Darrell and Leslie, all of New Boston, Texas; five stepsons, Earl Gibbs of Hogeye, Roger Gibbs of Houston, Jackie Gibbs of Lugoff, S.C., Tony Gibbs of Florida and Robert Gibbs of Uniontown. Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Spradling Baptist Church with burial at Bryan Family cemetery in Lumberton, S.C. Pallbearers will be Eric Brooks, Jim Hale, Greg Cochran and deacons of Spradling Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
Sherry Alene Johnson
Sherry Alene Johnson, loving wife of Paul, passed away in Yuma, Ariz., on July 26, 2002, after a long illness. She was born on Aug. 1, 1945, in Paris.
Sherry was a loving mother and grandmother. She graduated from high school in Lavaca and owned her own business in Fort Smith before marrying Paul and moving to Yuma. Sherry was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church in Yuma for the past 20 years. Until her illness, Sherry gave many hours of her time to the Assistance League of Yuma.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith Mortuary in Charleston. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood cemetery in Paris.
Sherry is survived by her husband, Paul Brendan Johnson of the home; daughters, Susan Ballance Moore of Lavaca, Lisa Ballance Randall and her husband, James H. Randall of Las Vegas; sons, Brendan Brian and his wife, Amy of Birmingham, Ala., and Kevin Joseph and his wife, Mary of Washington, D.C.; and six grandchildren. Also surviving Sherry is her sister, Mary Hobbs and Mary’s husband, Joe Hobbs of Lavaca. Sherry’s father, Arthul Carlton “A.C.” Carpenter and her mother, Annabell Lowrey Carpenter, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Sherry’s grandson Matthew Lindsey, nephews, Brian, Chris and Bradley Hobbs, cousin John Farnham and Mark Rouse. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Young, Gene Robles, Kenneth Carpenter and Brian Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, Sherry requested donations to the UCSD Cancer Center Foundation in La Jolla, Calif.
Mary Caroline Kern Ketter
Mary Caroline Kern Ketter, 85, of Charleston died Monday, July 29, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born July 22, 1917, in Morrison Bluff. She was a homemaker, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston, the Sacred Heart Mother’s Society and Catholic Knights of America. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sister Annette Ketter, OSB.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston.
Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Sacred Heart cemetery in Charleston.
She is survived by her husband, Art of the home; two daughters, Joyce Jones and Carolyn Ketter, both of Fort Smith; two sons, Charles and daughter-in-law, Dian Ketter and Peter and daughter-in-law, Virgie Ketter, all of Charleston; a sister, Theresa Kern of Fort Smith; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Scott and David Jones, Lance, Joe, Greg and Charles Ketter Jr.
