Eula Jennings

JOPLIN, Mo. — Eula F. Jennings, 88, of Joplin, Mo., formerly of Sallisaw died Monday, March 11, 2002, in Joplin. She was born Jan. 25, 1914, in Akins, Okla. She received her BA in education from NSU in Tahlequah, Okla. She was a elementary school teacher in Sallisaw and New Jersey for 41 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Joplin, Mo. She was the widow of Robert F. Jennings.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter, Dolores Malinowski of Joplin, Mo.; a son, Bob Jennings of Mebane, N.C.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the youth department at Calvary Baptist Church in Joplin, Mo.

Ellen Butler

BOKOSHE — Ellen Butler, 97, of Bokoshe died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Feb. 8, 1905. She was a homemaker and a member of Free Will Baptist Church of Panama. She was the widow of Grady Butler.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Free Will Baptist Church of Panama with burial at Greenhill cemetery in Cameron under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

She is survived by two daughters, Flossie Simpson of Meridian, Idaho and Ruth Hayes of Marion, Ind.; three sisters, Linnie Butler and Hazel Rooney, both of Panama and Winnie Fuller of Pocola; five grandchildren, Donna Hart of Meridian, Idaho, Carol Mooney of Grants Pass, Ore., Michael and Ronald Burgman and Judy Quick, all both of Indiana; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Hayden Byrd, Jim Pendergrass, Eulice, Pete, Davild and Kenneth Butler.

Shirel Dickison

COVE — Shirel C. Dickison, 68, of Cove died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Mena. He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Athens. He was a self-employed farmer and mechanic and was a member of Cove Revival Center. He was the widower of Verba Dickison.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Cove Revival Center with burial at Pleasant Grove cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.

He is survived by three sons, Stanley and Troy Dickison, both of Cove and Tim Dickison of Kirby; his mother, Versa Dickison of Manville, N.J.; a sister, Jeanette Allen of Manville, N.J.; two brothers, Jesse Ray Dickison of Cove and Gary Dickison of Dolphin Island, Ala.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gale Smith, Roger Robbins, David Barrett, Reggy Fryar, Scott Cowart and Marshall White.

Billy Hackworth

WICKES — Billy Joe Hackworth, 68, of Wickes died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Hot Springs. He was born Dec. 3, 1933, in Keota. He was a truck driver and was a member of Wickes Pentecostal Church of God.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Wickes Pentecostal Church of God with burial at Crystal Hill cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

He is survived by his wife, Shirlene; his children and grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be J.E., Preston and Jimmy Miles, Tommy Daniels, Calvin Baker and Jimmy Don Wilcher.

Leona Taylor

Leona Roppolo Taylor, 89, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 11, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a retired retail shoe salesperson for Hunt’s Department Store and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mass will be 10 a.m. today in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial at Calvary cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

She is survived by a son, Joe David Taylor of Fort Smith; and one grandchild, Kenny Taylor of Fort Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy and Marion Ciulla, Jack Green, Pat Looper, John Bivens and Kenny Taylor.

The family will visit with friends at the home of Joe Taylor.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1866, Fort Smith, AR 72902.

Charles Guthrie Sr.

VIAN — Charles Otis Guthrie Sr., 69, of Vian died Monday, March 11, 2002, in Little Rock. He was a former teacher and swim coach in El Paso and Midland, Texas where he advanced to the state meet annually, he was former horse jockey, trainer and lifeguard. He was a member of Vian Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Vian Garden of Memories under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Charlene McFarland of Vian; a son, Charles Otis McFarland Jr. of Vian; three grandchildren, Trinity Cowens, Emma and Rachel Guthrie and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Loyd Wells, Jerry Morris, Jerry Gilbreath, Arthur Ross, Russell Wagner and Paul Walter.

The body may be viewed 8:30 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home.

Troy Varner

MENA — Troy Lee Varner, 68, of Mena died Monday, March 11, 2002, in Mena. He was born Jan. 15, 1934, in Hatfield. He worked for Mena Tobacco & Candy Company for 38 years and was a member of Hatfield Church of Church and the Queen Wilhelmina Good Sams Traveling Club.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Hatfield Church of Christ with burial at Six Mile cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; two daughters, Jill Lambert and Connie Mabry, both of Mena; a sister, June Fudge of Hatfield; four brothers, Walter, Foy, Sam and Bobby Dale Varner, all of Hatfield; four grandchildren and eight stepgrandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ira Berg, Doc Hamilton, Wayne Dingler, Frankie Owens, Don Milham and Jessie Fudge.

Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Hatfield Church of Christ.

Donald Young

CLARKSVILLE — Donald Young, 69, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March 1, 2002, in his home. He was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Vermont, Ill. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War and a mine construction worker.

The body was cremated under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.

He is survived by a daughter, Anita Horger of Waller, Texas; two sons, Darrell Young of Wright, Wyo. and William Young of Macon, Mo.; a brother, Jim Young of Marble Hill, Mo.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Robert Hall

SALLISAW — Robert Virgil Hall, 76, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Sallisaw. He was born June 18, 1925, in Simon, Okla. He was a Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, a machinist and a member of Carnie Welch American Legion Post No. 27 in Sallisaw and was Assembly of God.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Akins cemetery northeast of Sallisaw.

He is survived by his wife, Lueanor; two daughters, Roberta Finch of Sallisaw and Louella Stewart of Bradford, Tenn.; two sisters, Delpha cone of Lansing, Mich. and Beatrice Cloninger of Hydro, Okla.; a brother, M.C. hall of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.

The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Nancy Stone

BOONEVILLE — Nancy Elizabeth Roberts Stone, 95, of Booneville died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in Booneville. She was retired from the State Sanitarium where she worked in housekeeping. She was a charter member of The Victory Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in The Victory Baptist Church in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.

She is survived by two sisters, Vada Stone and Sarah Turley, both of Booneville; four grandchildren, David Wayne, James Ray and Ronnie Floyd Stone and five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and a son of the heart, John Ross Williams.

Pallbearers will be Shelburne Bryant, Ray Gossett, Larry Burwell, Virgil Farmer, Roger Turley and Bob Mobley.

Jacky Matthews

STIGLER — Jacky Wayne Matthews, 53, of Stigler died Monday, March 12, 2002, in his home.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in King & Shearwood Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Stigler with burial at Garland cemetery in Stigler.

He is survived by his wife, Jackqueline of Kingman, Ariz.; three daughters, Teresa Mathews of Stigler, Beulah Mathews of Fort Smith and Hannah Sexton of Alexandria, Va.; three sons, Kennith Mathews of Stigler, Andrews McSperritt of Oklahoma City and Gary Sexton of Kingman, Ariz.; a sister, Evelyn Timmons of Stigler; a brother, Larry Mathews of Stigler.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Boston, Kevin Howard, Jason Jordon, Junior Kennedy, James Terrell and Charlie Hughes.

The body will be viewed 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Willie Akins

POTEAU — Willie Perry Akins, 89, of Poteau died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in Poteau. He was born March 20, 1912, in Foreman. He was self-employed.

Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday in First Assembly of God in Poteau with burial at Shady Point cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; four daughters, Doris Maddox of Poteau, Marie Akins, Esther Miller of Cameron and Wilma Graham of Shady Point; a son, Alvin Akins of Shady Point; a sister, Dovie Estep of Shady Point; two brothers, Johnny and Cecil Akins, both of Foreman; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friend from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Christine Boynton

ROCK ISLAND, R.I. — Christine J. Boynton, 51, of Rock Island, R.I. died Tuesday, March 12, 2002. She was born March 10, 1950, in Rock Island, R.I. She was a homemaker and a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, Lady Elks, Habitat for Humanity and Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island with burial at Chippiannock cemetery in Rock Island.

She is survived by a son, J.D. Boynton of Rock Island, R.I.; her mother, Thorney Paul of Rock Island; two sisters, Lisa Frain of Rock Island, R.I. and Alison Jackson of Nixa, Mo.; a brother, Richard Paul of Rock Island, R.I.

Leonard Prock

SHADY POINT — Leonard David “L.D.” Prock, 80, of Shady Point died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in Shady Point. He was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Williams, Okla. He was owner of Prock Fence Company of Shady Point, he was a Navy veteran of World War II as 2nd class petty officer, he worked for American Forge for nine years, he raised turkeys for Hatter Feed Mill for 10 years.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Shady Point cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; three daughters, Gloria Womack of Shady Point, Carolyn Anderson of Panama and Sandy Mason of Calhoun, Okla.; a son, Barry Prock of Garber, Okla.; three sisters, Mabel Coons of Sallisaw, Imojean Jones of Keota and Ramona Prock of Roland; a brother, Hershel Prock of Fort Smith.

Pallbearers will be Lenny Anderson, Dustin Prock, Justin Green, Tom Leedom, Jarrod Cloud and Kenneth Howard.

Joda Taylor Sr.

Joda C. Taylor Sr., 90, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Van Buren. He was retired from the Army and from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the National Retired Military Association. He is the widower of Vera Bright Taylor.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors.

He is survived by a daughter, Carol Vela of Dallas; a son, Joda C. Taylor of Mulberry; two sisters, Mary R. Rimmer of Van Buren and Mildred Sherrill of Waldron; a brother, Delbert Taylor of Kansas City, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and Army Honor Guard.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David Shields

David Shields, 46, of Van Buren died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a fork lift driver for Baldor Electric in Fort Smith.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home. The body will be cremated.

He is survived by his wife, Melinda; a daughter, Melissa McCowan of Van Buren; a son, Drew Shields of Waxahachie, Texas; his mother, Lois Shields of Huntington; a brother, Randy Shields of Humble, Texas; two grandchildren, Justice Arter and Dylan McCowan, both of Van Buren.

Ina Murray

Ina Glover Murray, 94, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Van Buren. She was a homemaker and a member of Goddard United Methodist Church.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by a daughter, Phanita Williams of Fort Smith; two son, Jim Gover of Clarkdale, Miss. and George Glover of Fort Smith; a sister, Ruby Clark of Brookhaven, Miss.; a brother, Royce Griffith of Harbor City, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John W. Ayers, Pat Stanton, Ed Drimmel, Carl McCauley and Billy Bob Williams.

Memorial contributions may be made to Goddard United Methodist Church, 1922 Jenny Lind, Fort Smith, AR 72901.

George Hall

RUDY — George McDonald Hall, 79, of Rudy died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a Army veteran of World War II and a retired mechanic at Fort James.

The body was cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by four sons, Alan Hall of Stoughton, Mass., Gary Hall of Dedham, Mass, Douglas Hall of Florida and Kevin Hall of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The body will be in state Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Terry Curtis

ALMA — Terry Lynn Curtis, 44, of Alma died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in Mulberry. He was a heavy equipment operator for Washington County and was a Pentecostal.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Alma City cemetery.

He is survived by a daughter, Tanika Lavern Curtis of the home; a son, Levi Wade Curtis of the home; his mother and father, Corece and James Curtisn of Alma; two brothers, Gerald Wayne Curtis of Las Vegas and James Edward Curtis of Alma.

Pallbearers will be James E. and Wayne Curtis, Aaron Tash, Rex Robbins, Mike Wooldridge, Paul Matthews and Levi Curtis.
