Hood

PARAGOULD -- Kerry Hood, 29, of Paragould died Saturday, Jan. 8, at Paragould.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Jackson

FRANKLIN -- Ester Jackson, 83, of Franklin died Sunday, Jan. 9, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Higginbotham Funeral Service of Hardy.

Marcum

EVENING SHADE -- Joshua S. Marcum, 33, of Evening Shade died Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Taji, Iraq.

Born in Illinois, he was a truck driver for Dowell Transport in Batesville and was a member of Bravo Company 2-153 Infantry, Arkansas National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Marcum of the home; three sons, David Brannon, Jacob Brannon and Donovan Brannon, all of Evening Shade; two daughters, Tiffany Marcum and Stephanie Marcum, both of Cave City; his mother, Barbara Marcum of Evening Shade; two brothers, Jay Marcum of Littleton, Colo., and Ronald Marcum of Chicago, and three sisters, Dianna Marcum of Evening Shade, Margaret Burris of Hot Springs and Linda Beckham of Pittsburgh, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Edward Marcum.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Evening Shade High School gymnasium, with Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Spotts Cemetery at Poughkeepsie under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Miller

MONETTE -- Graveside services for Raymond Miller, 70, of Monette, who died Sunday, Jan. 9, at Monette, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Monette Cemetery.

The Rev. Captain Lovell will officiate. Gregg Funeral Home of Monette is in charge of arrangements.

Employees of Keich Shaver Gin in Monette will serve as pallbearers.

He lived in the Monette and Leachville area all his life. He was manager of Keich Shaver Gin for 50 years and served in the Arkansas National Guard for eight years. He was a board member of Osceola Products and was on the Soil Conservation Committee.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Miller of the home; a daughter, Maleisa Finch of Jonesboro; a sister, Mary Frances Wallace of Monette; three brothers, Bob Miller of Monette, Jack Miller of Leachville and James Miller of Jonesboro, and a grandson, Dustin Finch of Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Douglas Miller, and his parents, J.R. and Edna Miller.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral.

Memorials may be made to Buffalo Island Ambulance Service, Monette First Baptist Church or the Raymond and Dolores Miller Scholarship Fund.

Moore

BLYTHEVILLE -- Donnie Gayle Moore, 49, of Blytheville died Saturday, Jan. 8, at his home.

A lifelong Blytheville resident, he attended Blytheville High School, was a self-employed roofer and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include two daughters, Heather Nicolee Moore and Alicen Ashley Moore, both of Carroll, Iowa; his mother, Alline Tippett of Blytheville; three brothers, Jimmy Moore and Larry Moore, both of Ash Flat, and Ricky Moore of Blytheville, and two sisters, Barbara Decker of Blytheville and Carolyn Bohannon of Heber Springs.

He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Moore.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Elmwood Cemetery at Blytheville, with the Rev. Kenny Pruitt officiating.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.

Nelson

CORNING -- Betty Nelson, 64, of Corning died Monday, Jan. 10, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

She was born in Newport and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Nelson of Corning; one daughter, Wyvetta Leonard of Corning; three sons, Lonnie Curtner of O'Fallon, Mo., Michael Curtner of St. Charles, Mo., and Larry Hastings of Vandalia, Ill.; her mother, Oddie Mae Knoppe of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Polly Boyd of Perry, Ga., and Mary Barnes of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Eugene Malone of Poplar Bluff and Cornealius Malone of O'Fallon, and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Elvis Dewayne Nelson; her father, Cornealius Malone; one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ermert Funeral Home in Corning, with the Rev. Billy Snow officiating. Burial will be in Moark Cemetery at Moark.

Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home.

Simmons

Mildred Louise Simmons, 80, of Jonesboro died Monday, Jan. 10, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

A native of Clarendon, she was a retired nurse's aide and had worked at the former Methodist Hospital of Jonesboro. She was a longtime resident of Jonesboro and a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Simmons and Bill Simmons of Jonesboro; one daughter, Wanda Karls of Smithfield, Va.; six grandchildren, Erika Karls and Patrick Karls, both of Smithfield, and Jennifer Simmons, Kari Watkins, Chris Simmons and Ryan Simmons, all of Jonesboro; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Simmons.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, with Jimmy Young and Jerry Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Simmons, Ryan Simmons, Wayne Timmons, Grant Watkins, Dennis Gregory and Joe Brewer.

Honorary pallbearers will include Jim Tubbs, Butch Davidson, Jason Brewer, Bill Knight and Jerry Davidson.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Home at Paragould.

Tucker

BLYTHEVILLE -- Lorene Tucker, 92, of Blytheville died Saturday, Jan. 8, at Great River Medical Center in Blytheville.

Born at Horn Beak, Tenn., she was a longtime Blytheville resident, a homemaker and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Bennie Tucker of Swartz Creek, Mich., and Harvey Tucker and Jerry Tucker, both of Blytheville; three daughters, Merle Byrd of Chicago, Betty Campbell of Eads, Tenn. and Jewell Jeraldine West of Blytheville; two brothers, Lewis Johnson of Blackwell, Texas, and Lucian Johnson of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Lucille Brickell of Caraway and Mary Waln of Jonesboro; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Tucker; a son, Winnard Tucker; her parents, Samuel Goldburn and Mattie Bell Cannon Johnson; a brother and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville, with the Rev. Mitchell King Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.

VanWinkle

OIL TROUGH -- Funeral services for J.D. VanWinkle, 73, of Oil Trough, who died Friday, Jan. 7, at Baptist Medical Center at Little Rock, will be at 10 a.m. today at Olyphant Church of Christ.

Burial will be in Hindman Cemetery under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jay Gramling, Jeffrey Gramling, Garrett Koettel, Hunter Woods and Jeffery Stites.

Born at Macks, he was retired from Victory Metal and a member of Olyphant Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda VanWinkle of the home; three daughters, Audrey Gramling of Newcastle, Okla., Vivian Koettel of Farmington and Annette Wood of Mountain View; one brother, A.L. VanWinkle of Bradford; one sister, Elizabeth McDougal of Portage, Mich., and seven grandchildren, Jay Gramling of Wichita, Kan., Garrett Koettel of Russellville, Laura Gramling and Jeffrey Gramling, both of Newcastle, Grant Koettel of Fayetteville, Brittney Woods of Walcott and Hunter Woods of Mountain View.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Cordia Daggett VanWinkle, one brother and one sister.
