BONANZA — Joseph A. Magness of Bonanza died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in his home. He was a retired machinist at Butler & Cook Inc. in Fort Smith and a member of Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford.
He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Magness of Cypress, Calif., and Kimberly Vandermost of Bellflower, Calif.; a son, Brent Magness of Bonanza; his mother, Virginia M. Magness of Bonanza; three sisters, Anita, Kathleen and Virginia R. Magness, all of Bonanza; three brothers, Stephen Magness of Los Angeles, John Magness of Bonanza and James Magness of Fort Smith; and seven grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Timalee McCartney
POTEAU — Timalee Sue McCartney, 20, of Poteau died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Spiro. She was born Sept. 18, 1981, in Poteau. She was a studentat Carl Albert State College in Poteau and a member of Sugarloaf Christian Fellowship.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Oakland cemetery in Poteau.
She is survived by a daughter, Tessa Dawn Adams of the home; her mother and stepfather, Karen and Jeff Ford of Wister; her father and stepmother, Chester and Gloria McCartney of Poteau; three stepsisters, Urena Sanders of Wister, Mandalyn Clark of Poteau and Ashley Ford of Vinita, Okla.; three brothers, Christopher Clark and Levi and Kevin McCartney, both of Poteau; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Lillian Smith of Lone Grove, Okla.; paternal grandparents, Aurthur McCartney of Monroe and Mattie McCartney of Poteau.

KEOTA — Russell Lavern Parks, 65, of Keota died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Keota. He worked as a rural mail carrier on Keota Route 2 for 25 years and for Wal-Mart No. 125 in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Keota with burial at West Harmony cemetery in Hartford under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Lou; two stepdaughters, Brenda Fetters of Spiro and Linda Brown of Spiro; three stepsons, Raymond Bowen of Spiro and Jerry and Ronnie Bowen, both of Pocola; a sister, Linda Devoe of Council Bluffs, Iowa; three brothers, Darrell Parks of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Raymond and Clarence Park, both of Elk Horn, Iowa; and 10 grandchildren.
Frederick Oliver
SALLISAW — Dr. Frederick Bell Oliver, 87, of Sallisaw died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in Sallisaw. He was a 57-year member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 120 in Sallisaw, Scottish Rite Bodies of McAlester, Okla., and Bedouiam Temple of Shriners in Muskogee. He practiced medicine for 50 years in Sallisaw and was a family physician.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in First Presbyterian Church of Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City Cemeter under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; three daughters, Jo Anne Leikam and Virginia Kaye Ronk, both of Tulsa, and Deanna Ruth Johnston of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren, Jade Graham and Brian Latimer, both of Telluride, Colo., Emily Zemke, Ruth Anne Ronk and Kingsley Ronk, all of Tulsa, Anne Marie Johnston, J. Fred Johnston and Marjorie Johnston, all of Oklahoma City, and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bill Orendorff, Russell Knoke, Steve Tubbs, Marion Fair, Ray Walker and John Landa.
Lealtad Farmer
Lealtad H. Farmer, 84, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was an Army veteran and worked for Transportation Services of the civil service at Fort Chaffee.
Graveside memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; a daughter, Mary Ann Petway of Chicago; Paul Farmer of Chicago; three sisters, Hap Jackson, Pat Buchanan and Marla Farmer, all of Chicago; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Lang Phan Thach
Lang Phan Thach, 60, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and a Tyson Foods employee.
No formal service will be held. The body will be cremated under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Quan; four daughters, Thach Jia Hing of Fort Smith and Thach Hue Linh, Thach Hue Minh and Thach Hue Hue, all of Vietnam; a son, Thach Minh Duc of Vietnam; a sister, Diep Thoai Tran of Holland; a brother, Diep Thoai Lan of Australia; and three grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ernest N. Westfall Sr.
Ernest N. Westfall Sr., 77, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Greenwood to the late Herman G. and Mildred Lee “Bell” Westfall. He graduated from Fort Smith High School, attended Fort Smith Junior College (now the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith) and Capitol College of Pharmacy in Denver, Colo. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps. He was a realtor and developer in Fort Smith for the past 47 years, developing 14 residential subdivisions and numerous commercial properties. He served as an officer or director in the following organizations: president, Fort Smith Lions Club; secretary-treasurer, District 7-S Lions Club International; president and director, Credit Bureau of Fort Smith, Inc.; president, Arkansas Credit Association; president, director and legislative chairman, Fort Smith Board of Realtors; life member, district vice president, director and legislative chairman, Arkansas Realtors Association; national director for six years, National Realtors Association; chairman, Arkansas Real Estate Commission; trustee and chairman, Arkansas Realtors Political Action Committee; director, Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce; director, Fort Smith Community Chest of United Way; president, Arkansas Crippled Children’s Association; president, Arkansas Lung Association; Arkansas Realtor of the Year 1969, also Fort Smith Realtor of the Year. He was president and owner of Ernest Westfall Company Inc. Realtors and Wedgwood Heights Development Co. Inc. He served on the Fort Smith City Planning Commission and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maxine; his son, Ernest N. Westfall Jr. and wife Mary, both of Paris, France; his daughter, Viki Lynn Westfall of Charlotte, N.C.; one half-sister, Este Scheve of Naperville, Ill.; and one brother, Herman W. Westfall of Las Vegas, Nev.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.

Elizabeth Ann Carlson, 65, of Alma died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a retired administrative assistant with Hughes Aircraft and a member of New Heights Baptist Church in Alma and the River Valley Master Gardeners and an associate member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Teresa Washington of Mulberry; a son, James Kelley of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Jane Stephens and Katherine Carlson, both Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Catherine Harris of Keota, Okla.; two brothers, Robert Merrick of Kansas City, Mo., and Clifford Harris of Cypress, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Bertha P. Rambo, 78, of Booneville died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in a Booneville nursing home. She was a mother and a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Rambo, and a great-grandson, Nicholas Miller.
She is survived by five daughters, Elizabeth Bradley of Merced, Calif., Wanda Lindsey of Chowchilla, Calif., Juanita McCormick of Booneville, Dwetta Martin of LeGrand, Calif., and Sharon Wright of Jacksonville; three sons, Roland Rambo of Chowchilla, James Rambo of Booneville and Teddy Rambo of Fresno, Calif.; a brother, Pete Tadlock of Merced, Calif.; 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Kenneth H. Yocum
Kenneth H. Yocum, 56, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, in Oklahoma City. He was a member of Park Hill Church of Christ and was owner and operator of Gator Golf and Worldburger Drive-In. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and the co-founder of the Cruise Night event on Towson Avenue.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Della Yocum of Fort Smith; three sons, Brent Allen Yocum and Brian Travis Yocum, both of Fort Smith, and Terry Rushing of Wynne; one sister, Jean Patton of Fort Smith; two brothers, Donald Yocum of Bloomfield, N.M., and James Yocum of Edmond, Okla.; and six grandchildren.

Brandy Carol Shelton, 22, of Magazine died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, in Paris. She was born Aug. 5, 1980, in Fort Smith and was an employee of Sonic in Greenwood. She also was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Greenwood.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Greenwood with burial at Measles cemetery in Lavaca under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca.
She is survived by her fiance, Michael Jones of Magazine and his daughters, Schay and Danny; her mother, Vicki Shelton of Lavaca; her father, Allen Shelton of Lavaca; her maternal grandparents, Jim and Cathy Sharp of Greenwood; her paternal grandfather, Warren Shelton of Lavaca; her great-grandmother, Claudine Boswell of Globe, Ariz.; and three aunts and two uncles.
Pallbearers will be Brandon and Jeremy Hobbs, Randy Toon, Mark Harkins, Steven Parrett and Timmy Waterberry.
There will be no public viewing.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry and Clyde Bias and John and Carolyn Gooch.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Elizabeth V. McGinnis Miros
Elizabeth V. McGinnis Miros, 92, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Fort Smith, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at the home of her daughter. She was born March 18, 1910, in Huntington, W. Va., to the late Clay Warren and Lou Ella Peyton McGinnis. She received her teacher education training at Marshall College and taught elementary school in West Virginia, New Jersey and Arkansas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Michael Miros, in 1975; three sisters; three brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Miros.
Her survivors include her children, Frank (Jeannie) Miros of Fort Smith, Dr. Nancy (Donald) Denny of Columbus, Ohio, and Dr. Therese Stewart of Gainesville, Ga.; grandchildren include Michael (Kathy) Miros of Columbus, Ohio, Stephen (Kim) Miros of Ocala, Fla., Michele Miros (Kelly) Westmoreland of Gainesville, Ga., Gregory Miros of Little Rock, Lisa Miros (Donald) Drury of Bentonville, David (Jennifer) Miros of St. Louis, Mary Elizabeth Stewart of Gaineville, Ga., and Christopher Stewart of Atlanta; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Fort Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Billy Joe Calhoun
Billy Joe Calhoun, 76, of Fort Smith, formerly of Marlow, Okla., died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Marlow, Okla. He was retired from the Navy after 26 year of service and was a member of Church of Christ in Marlow, Okla. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Edna of 54 years; two daughters, Jeri Condry and Terrye Oxford, both of Fort Smith; a brother, Duane Calhoun of Tulare, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Chris and Jeremy Oxford, Beth Decker, Geoffrey and Aaron Calhoun and Melissa Condry.
Delma Ingle Standerfer
Delma Ingle Standerfer of Waldron died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. She was born July 8, 1912 to Alex and Mattie, was the widow of Buster, a sister to Arnold, her only surviving sibling. She was a lifelong student of the Bible, and her wisdom, knowledge of God and relationship with Jesus was evident to everyone who knew her.
Her children, Evelyn and Dub, Fritz, Tommy and Sandy, Ted and Karen extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Russell Young and Mom’s “angels” at Mercy Hospital of Scott County to Dr. David Hutton, Kim West and the 4400 nursing staff at St. Edward’s for the wonderful, tender care that Mom received.
Her grandchildren, Jerie and Larry, Jayme, Josh, Andrea and Claire, great-grandchildren, Casey and Michael and great-great-grandchild, Cameron, also thank everyone who helped in any way to make Mammaw feel better.
Visitation at Martin Funeral Home in Waldron will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be at Parks cemetery in Nola.
Pallbearers will be Tom, Ted and Josh Standerfer, Dub Smalling, Larry Jones, Michael St. John and Gary Ingle.

Susan Elaine Watton Gasper, 48, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years. She was a 1972 graduate from Southside High School and a member of the National Honor Society.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond; a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Gasper of Fort Smith; a son, Henry Francis Gasper of Fort Smith; three sisters, Connie Robson of Marengo, Ohio, Judy Ruby of Boston and Patty Campbell of Marion, Ohio; and two brothers, Jerry L. Shook of Delaware, Ohio, and John Springstun of Kentucky.

Josh Jennen, infant son of Dava and Richard Jennen of Van Buren, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in a local hospital.
No services are scheduled. The body was cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Halie Jennen of the home; paternal grandparents, Linda and Chuck Jennen of Van Buren; maternal grandparents, Margie and James Garner of Van Buren; paternal great-grandmothers, Mrs. Gadd and Mrs. V.
