STIGLER — Robert Eugene “Bob” Lowry, of Stigler died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Stigler. He was born March 24, 1947, in Yuba City, Calif. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and was a Baptist.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Lea; his mother, Margaret Lowry of Yuba City, Calif.; and two brothers, Thomas Lowry of Yuba City, Calif., and Charles “Chuck” Lowry of Grass Valley, Calif.
Daren Johnson
OZARK — Daren M. Johnson, 77, of Ozark died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in his home. He was born March 6, 1925, in Mount Levi. He was a graduate of Clarksville High School, a Navy Seabees veteran of World War II, a brick layer and heavy equipment operator and a member of Ozark Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Clarksville Church of Christ with burial at Hagarville cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Lou Ella; two daughters, Maria Bolin of Russellville and Linda Bethel of Fort Meyers, Fla.; a son, John Johnson of Ozark; a sister, Mae Harris of Clarksville; two brothers, Norman Johnson of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Charles Johnson Jr. of Lawton, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Hawkins, Jim Cooley, Frank Woolsey, Clayton Tompkins Jr., Jimmy Little and Bill Bice.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Versa Dickison
NEW JERSEY — Versa Delola White Dickison, 88, of New Jersey, formerly of Cove, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in New Jersey. She was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Athens. She was a homemaker and a nurse at Mena Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Floyd Ray “Cagle” Dickison.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene with burial at Pleasant Grove cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by a daughter, Jeannie Allen of Millville, N.J.; two sons, Jesse Dickison of Cove and Gary Dickison of Dauphin Island, Fla.; a sister, Johnnie Young of Mena; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Ella Clark
ALMA — Ella Marie Clark, 61, of Alma died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a manager for Alma Inn Motel and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Pope cemetery in Mountainburg.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; a daughter, Cindy Jean Twillman of Amarillo, Texas; two sons, Roger Parker of Van Buren and Bruce Kagan of Mulberry; two sisters, Delta Tankersley of Fort Smith and Maxine Mohn of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Thell Morse of Mulberry and J.D. Morse of Springdale; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Fisher, Gary Williams, Glen Harden, Curtis and David Lloyd, David Morse and Wendell Kirk.
Albert Lovell
SPIRO — Albert Lovell, 64, of Spiro died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in Fort Smith.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at New Hope cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; three stepdaughters, Cindy McElyea of Spiro, Linda Lensindy of Fort Smith and Elaine Richard of Bokoshe; three stepsons, Bobby York of Panama, James Harper of Pocola and Glenn Shepard of Van Buren; two sisters, Mildred Myers of Pocola and Geneva Powell of California; a brother, Bobby Lovell of Pocola; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Verda Williams
FAYETTEVILLE — Verda Logue Williams, 83, of Fayetteville died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in her home. She was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Madison County. She was a homemaker and the widow of Carl Williams.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Beard’s Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville with burial at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by two sons, David Williams of Ozark and Richard Williams of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

SALLISAW — Charles W. Quakenbush, 82, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Sallisaw. He was a member of American Legion, VFW and the Disabled American Veterans and the Methodist Church, was district manager for Wilson Freight for 31 years.
Funeral will be noon Friday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel of Sallisaw with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta; a daughter, Janet Quakenbush of Houston; a son, Ronald Quakenbush of Sallisaw; a sister; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MENA — James Paul Sowell Jr., 21, of Mena died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. He was born June 9, 1981, in DeQueen. He was a Mena High School graduate and was on active duty in the Army National Guard.

military honors under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his father, James Paul Sowell Sr. of Horatio; his mother and stepfather, Janet and Joe Conaster of Mena; a sister, Amanda Sowell of Mena; a brother, Michael Sowell of Mena; a stepsister, Jennifer Conaster of Mena; a stepbrother, Joseph Conaster of Mena; paternal grandmother, Margaret Sowell of Horatio, paternal grandfather, Ulysess Sowell of Lockesburg; maternal grandmother, Rosa Lewis of Clarksville; and fiancee, Kim Davis of Little Rock.
William Rundell
William R. “Rusty” Rundell, 88, of Fort Smith, formerly of Bartlesville, Okla., died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a retired accountant for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, Okla., an Army veteran of World War II and a member of First United Methodist Church in Bartlesville.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Sue Woodland of Fort Smith; and two nephews, Scott Woodland of Fort Smith and O.H. Rundell of Oklahoma City.

KEOTA — Beatrice Long, 86, of Keota died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Stigler. She was the widow of William “Bill” Long.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Keota cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Ruby Hurst of Keota; three sons, Lester Long of Pawhuska, Okla., Billy Joe Long of Keota and Arthur Long of Del City, Okla.; three sisters, Winfred Ivey of Talihina, Okla., Josephine Ray of Guthrie, Okla., and Rosalea Keltner of Ada, Okla.; three brothers, Flint Mize of Tennessee, Jerry Mize of Louisiana and Ted Mize of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Raymond Woodward
CLARKSVILLE — Raymond “Bill” Woodward, 76, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Clarksville. He was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Borden Springs, Ala.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by a half brother, Bob Broomfield of Norwalk, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and a companion, Ruth Opheim.
Shirley Waite
KNOXVILLE — Shirley Ann Waite, 59, of Knoxville died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in a Little Rock hospital. She was born Dec. 11, 1942, in Knoxville. She was a 1960 graduate of Lamar High School and a member of Trinity Chapel Pentecostal Church of God of Clarksville.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Chapel Pentecostal Church of God with burial at Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; two sisters, Betty Box of Knoxville and Linda Harrison of London; a brother, Danny Hattabaugh of Knoxville; and several nieces and great-nieces.

MENA — Benjamin Allen Lawry, 20, of Mena died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in Norman, Ark. He was born Jan. 9, 1982, in Irving, Texas. He was a 2000 Mena graduate and a specialist in the National Guard.

He is survived by his mother, Dianna Palmer of Sulpher, Okla., his father, Phillip Lawry of Mena; a stepmother, P.J. ROLAND — Pearl Lavay Wilson, 93, of Roland died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Roland. She was born July 14, 1909, in Cedar Creek. She was a homemaker, worked at Nehi Bottling Co. in Fort Smith and attended Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roland. She was the widow of Clarence Asten Walker and Conce Lee Wilson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Roland with burial at Roland City cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Roland.
She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Marie Harris of Roland; four sons, the Rev. Harold Chris Walker of Dardanelle, James Ray Walker of Kaufman, Texas, C.A. Louise Hunter
Louise Hunter, 67, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a retired cook at Crawford Memorial Hospital and a member of Full Gospel Church in Mulberry.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Alma Full Gospel Outreach with burial at Mount McCurry cemetery in Rudy under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin; two daughters, Mildred McGrane of New Zealand and Trellis Johnson of California; a stepson, Timothy Hunter of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Allen and Linda Dunn, both of Van Buren, and Virginia Petty of Fort Smith; a brother, Ronnie Dodson of Van Buren; and six stepgrandchildren.

POTEAU — Alvessie Nelson, 92, of Poteau died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, in Poteau. She was born Sept. 3. 1920, in Poteau. She was a homemaker and the widow of William H. Nelson.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Black of Poteau, Patsy Lorene Mills of Newcastle, Okla., and Billie Mae Chadwick of Enid, Okla.; a son, Homer Leroy Nelson of Pocola; a sister, Velma Gower of Amarillo, Texas; a brother, Leon Qualls of Altus, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
William Byron
SALINAS, Calif. — William Byron, 36, of Salinas, Calif., died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in Salinas. He was born June, 26, 1966. He was a carpenter and was responsible for founding “Wheels in Motion” support group for individuals confined to wheelchairs.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at North Park Baptist Church in Van Buren with burial of cremains at Uniontown cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Healey Mortuary of Salinas, Calif.
He is survived by a daughter, Christa Westfall of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; a son, Thomas R. Byron of Suisun City, Calif.; his mother and stepfather, Carolyn and Joseph Silva of Van Buren; his father, William F. Byron Deckard of Uniontown; a sister, Jennifer Beck of Van Buren; and two brothers, Martin G. Toney of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Timothy B. Toney of Enterprise, Ala.
