AMARILLO, Texas — Larry Dean Puryear, 52, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Polk County, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Texas. He was born Nov. 21, 1949, in Tipton, Okla. He worked at Firestone and Nissan of Amarillo for several years as a service manager and was a member of San Jacinto Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Grove cemetery under the direction of Beasly-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by four daughters, Jill Vasquez of Lubbock, Texas, Leslie Ann and Jennifer Puryear, both of Midland, Texas, and Megan Puryear of Oklahoma; a son, Chad Puryear of Lubbock, Texas; his mother, Winnie “Wendy” Puryear of Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Regina Barkley of Amarillo, Texas, Nelda Asplof of Canyon, Texas, and Belinda Cooper of Wildorado, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Donald Jennen
PANAMA — Donald E. Jennen, 45, of Panama died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in Panama. He was born Aug. 27, 1957, in Spokane, Wash. He was a cab driver and a security guard.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Shady Point cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by a daughter, Kelsi C. Jennen of Purcell, Okla.; his foster mother, Patricia Bernice Ammons of Panama; his foster grandfather, Woodrow A. Moore of Panama; two foster sisters, Teresa A. Grafton and Debbie V. Schmidt, both of Panama; a foster brother, Ronald D. Eastmon of Panama; and the mother of his child, Kandi Anderson of Purcell, Okla.
Pallbearers will be Ronald D., Ronald “Ollie” and Eugene Eatmon and Donald Jamison.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Charles Arthur Thornton
Charles Arthur Thornton, 74, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2002. He was born March 10, 1928, in Paris. He served in the Navy post World War II from 1946-1948. He was a bricklayer with the Arizona Bricklayer Union Local No. 3 for more than 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine R. Thornton of Phoenix; five daughters, Katherine E. Rike and husband, Bob Rike of Parks, Ariz., Sandra D. Larkins and husband, Steve Larkins of Phoenix, Brenda G. Davis and husband, Dale Davis of Phoenix, Charlene S. Ferman and husband Timothy Ferman of Phoenix and Michelle Meeks and husband, Bernie Meeks of Farmington, N.M.; a son, James C. Thornton of Phoenix; two sisters, Agnes Huckaby and Mildred “Babe” O’Kelley, both of Paris; and a brother, J.W. Thornton of Fort Smith. He had 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Camelback Sunset Chapel, Third Avenue and Camelback in Phoenix. Kathleen Geren
Kathleen Geren, 90, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker, a member of Rye Hill Baptist Church, a former employee of the Boston Store and a member of Wortz Smile Girl Band sponsored by the Wortz Biscuit Co. of Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. today at Rye Hill Baptist Church with burial at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two sons, John H. Geren Jr. and wife, Pat of Fort Smith and Michael Lee and wife, Sue Geren of Harrison; a brother, John Withers of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy, Terry, Jeffrey, Gregory and Blake Geren, J.D. Dudley, Tim and Kevin Parker.

Ronald Gene Campney Sr.
Ronald Gene Campney Sr., 57, of Sallisaw died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Fort Smith. Ron was best known by many as owner and operator of Ron’s General Store for more than 20 years. He worked in the furniture and appliance business his entire life. He started his career at Orendorff’s Furniture when he was 21. In 1974, Ron owned and operated Campney’s Home Furnishings. Buying, selling and trading was not just his business it was his life, he had a passion for what he did. Ron openly shared his love for his children, grandchildren and with everyone. He cared deeply for all of his family and he was very important to all of them. He made a difference to many people in the community; he was full of life and wanted to share it with everyone around him. Ron will be missed by many people.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church with burial at Akins cemetery in Sallisaw under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald Gene Campney Jr. and wife, Delisa of Edmond, Okla., and Justin Campney of Sallisaw; two sisters, Phyllis Butler of Owasso, Okla., and Gayle and Ron Magill of Grove Okla.; a brother, Vincent and Georgia Campney of Grandbury, Texas; three grandchildren, Jacqueline, Taylor and Tiag Campney, all of Grandbury, Texas; two aunts, Rosalyn Abbott of Albany, N.Y., and Ellen Murry of Muskogee, Okla.; a uncle, Wayne Campney of Queensbury, N.Y.; and special friends, Sandy Freeman, Nikki and Tammy Kelley, who were like daughters to him.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Barger, Bobby and Brian Thomas, Chris Stewart, Rick Taylor and Wendall Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Killer, Calvin Dority and Bobby Riggs.
The body may viewed be at the funeral home.

Brittany Rachelle Moody
Brittany Rachelle Moody, 13, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 6, 1989, in Fort Smith. She was a student at Ramsey Junior High and a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene and the International Bible Quiz Team at Trinity Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Trinity Church of the Nazarene with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived her parents, Mike and Beverly Moody of Fort Smith; two sisters, Megan Moody of the home and Crickett Kuhl of Hackett; two brothers, Ryan Wheeler of Fort Smith and Jeremy Cowan of Alma; maternal grandparents, J.T. and Marcella White of Fort Smith; and paternal grandmother, Betty Moody of Fort Smith.

William “Bill” Lee Hanes
William “Bill” Lee Hanes, 78, of Fort Smith died Nov. 1, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a Protestant and a member of the VFW Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and worked at First National Bank in security. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Minnie Haynes; a daughter, Patricia Lee; and a brother, Roy Hanes.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the U.S. National cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Zelma; a daughter, Melody Van Matre and her husband Shawn of Pocola; a son, Billy Lee Hanes of Midland; his beloved dog, Terra; his mother-in-law, Norma Shelby of Fort Smith; a sister, Mary Reeves of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Stetson Van Matre and Vincent Lee Jr.; and one great grandchild, Garrett Lee.

Louis Klein
Louis Klein, 85, Fort Smith died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a retired owner and operator of Midland Pawn & Jewelry, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Belle Point Lodge No. 20, Western Arkansas Scottish Rite Bodies, Ellig Stoufer Post 31 of the American Legion, a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Paralyzed Veterans of America and the AARP.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Morrison cemetery in Crawford County under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara McAllister of Fort Smith; two brothers, Manny Klein of Baltimore and Henry Klein of Boca Raton, Fla.; and a grandchild, Holly McAllister.

Joyce Faye Vaught
Joyce Faye Vaught, 64, of Waldron passed from this life Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in her home. She was employed at Waldron Middle School for 23 years and was a member of Waldron Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Ona Cole; one brother, Lonzo Cole; one sister, Opal Nelson; and her first husband, Glen Van De Wiele.
Funeral was Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with Keith Holleman, the Rev. Brad Kuhl and the Rev. James Rector officiating. Interment will be at Duncan cemetery in Waldron with the Rev. Ben Jackson and Travis Plummer officiating.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Tony; a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Terry Plummer of Waldron; two grandsons, Travis Plummer of Conway and Trey Plummer of Waldron; a sister, Emma Watkins of Weed, Calif.; a brother, Johnny Cole of Fort Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She is also survived by four foreign exchange grandchildren, Deon of Norway, Ainhoa of Spain, Anna of Germany and Marta of Switzerland.

Francis M. Mashburn
Francis M. Mashburn, 70, of Booneville died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 at a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Oct. 9, 1932. He served in the Navy and retired as a chief petty officer after 21 1/2 years of service. Following retirement he was employed by Today’s Kids in Booneville where he spend 15 1/2 years and took an early retirement to start his own business, Village Video and Tanning Salon in Boonville, with his wife. He was very active in the Lions Club where he served in several offices, including president and district governor. While in the Lions Club, he was given several awards including the most honorary award, Melvin Jones Fellow with one diamond. He attended Glendale Baptist Church in Boonville.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday with burial at Oakhill cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife Janie; two sons, David Mashburn of Boonville and James Mashburn of Baltimore; two daughters, Kathy Garner of Bentonville and Amber Clare of Norman, Okla.; his mother Lottie Mashburn of Prattville, Ala.; three brothers, Fount Mashburn of Concord, Calif.; Gus Mashburn of Millington, Tenn.; and Turner Mashburn of Fairfax, Okla.; a sister, Lahoma Stumbaugh of Prattville, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.

Sallie McBride, 83, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002 in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker, a retired employee of Weldon, Williams and Lick and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Arkoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dillon McBride, and her son, Ronnie McBride.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home with burial at New Hope cemetery in Spiro.
She is survived by a son, Loyd McBride of Pocola; three sisters, Bertha Humble and Elsie Smith, both of Fort Smith, and Alice Kennedy of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Stanley, Randy and Kevin McBride and Cindy Grizzle; and five great grandchildren.
