Art Burris
Art Burris, 63, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 18, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was retired from Whirlpool Corp., where he worked in the maintenance department, and was of the Jehovah Witness faith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith with burial at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores of the home; a son, Greg Burris; a stepdaughter, Sherry Jones of Fort Smith; four stepsons, Rick Kuykendall of Kansas City, Kan., Mark, Dennis and Terry Kuykendall, all of Fort Smith; a brother, Johnnie Burris of Fort Smith; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rick, Dennis, Mark, Terry and Bobby Kuykendall and Butch Swenson.
Honorary pallbearer will be Henry Kuykendall.
Carrell “Mark” Cahoon Jr.
Carrell “Mark” Cahoon Jr., 50, of Mansfield died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born March 21, 1951, in Fort Smith. He was a graduate of Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth, La., and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Carrell “Kay” Cahoon.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church in Mansfield with burial at Monroe cemetery in Monroe, Okla., under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.
He is survived by a daughter, Misty Gray of Mer Rouge, La.; a son, Brandon Cahoon of Jackson, Miss.; a grandson, Corbin Cahoon of Jackson, Miss.; his mother, LaVonne Byers Cahoon of Mansfield; two sisters, Donna Harris of Shreveport, La., and Diane Cahoon of Huntington; a brother, Alan Cahoon of Elizabeth, La.; an uncle, Harold Cahoon of Booneville; an aunt, Sue Byers Skaggs of Warsaw, Ind.; two great-aunts, Madge Carden of Hartford and Ruby Laster of Mansfield; nieces, Amber Maricle, Shelley Cahoon, Latrisha Harris; and nephews, Shaun Maricle and Stephen Harris.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Doug Boyd, Jason Gray, John Hurt, Austin Warren, Paul G. Wisley and Robert Woolbright.
Mabel Louise Love Bruce
On March 18, 2002, Mabel Louise Love Bruce passed over at home. She died a quiet, peaceful and natural death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Bruce, and eldest son, Richard Bert Bruce.
Louise was born to John Andrew Young Love and Margaret Emily Whiteside Love on Aug. 12, 1912, in Forest Chapel, Texas, north of Paris, Texas. She was the youngest of eight children. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1932. She taught at Cane Hill while completing her master’s in mathematics from the University of Texas in 1939. She also taught at Darby Junior High in Fort Smith, where she met Bill.
In 1941, she married
William Ayers “Bill” Bruce, a native of Fort Smith. They had eight children and were the founders of Olde Fashioned Foods, a natural food store that began out of their home on Free Ferry.
In 1969, they moved to their farm in Alma, where they devoted many years to gardening. Louise loved growing babies, flowers and vegetables. Her love of God, walking, nature, nutrition and gardening kept her sane, and her children kept her challenged. Bill and Louise shared may passions, and one of our mother’s greatest passions was her children. She wanted her children to do right, love right, to be healthy and happy. She believed God our creator existed in all living things and especially in the hearts of those who love him.
We learned much and will be forever grateful for her being our greatest teacher.
She is survived by seven children, Marquette “Margaret Claire” Mycue of Fayetteville, Bill “William Clark” of Alma, Larry “Lawrence Love” and his wife, Marjorie of Van Buren, Carole Louise and her husband, Tom Daniel of Fort Smith, John Hall and his wife, Sue of Alma, Thomas Vernon and his wife, Becky of Van Buren, Mary Martha and her husband, Darvin Curtis of Alma.
Louise and Bill leave 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Grandchildren are: Arden, Merrick, Ferris and Konrad, Rik, Mike, Thomas, Melissa, Ashley, Caleb, Sean, Jeremy, Jason, Laura, Bruce, Seth and Isaac. Great-grandchildren are: Aaron Sterling, Austin Taylor, Hannah Carole and Margaret Helen.
A gathering of family and friends will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sierra Club or charity of donor’s choice.
Jo Ann Walker
SALLISAW — Jo Ann Person Walker, 61, of Sallisaw died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Sallisaw. She was born march 1, 1941, in Bristow, Okla. She was a homemaker, cosmetologist, artist and poet. She was the widow of Franklin Delano “Dale” Walker.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Brent cemetery south of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Robison of Fort Smith and Ashley Walker of Sallisaw; four sons, Joseph Person of Fort Smith, Christopher, Michael and Matthew Walker, all of Sallisaw, and an adopted son, Dean Mosby of Sallisaw; three sisters, Doris Bouman of Greenville, Texas, Lillie Powell of Burkburnett, Texas, and Jean King of Wichita Falls, Texas; two brothers, Herman and Ed Gillum, both of Tulsa; and two grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.
Goldie Thrasher
WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Goldie Geneva Thrasher, 98, of Walla Walla, Wash., died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Walla Walla. She was born Dec. 23, 1903, in Muldrow. She attended Muldrow area schools, was a homemaker and a Protestant. She was the widow of S.E. Thrasher.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sallisaw City cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Thrasher of Sitka, Alaska; a son, Bill Thrasher of Walla Walla; a sister, Ruth Durham of Fort Smith; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.

KNOXVILLE — Nancy Lorene Melton, 65, of Knoxville died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in her home. She was a homemaker and member of Cabin Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2:30 a.m. Friday in Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Knoxville cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby; three daughters, Jacqueline Ann Coulter of Lamar, Deborah Mae Shay of Knoxville and Pamela Sue Blasczyk of Russellville; a son, Bobby Neal Melton of Knoxville; her mother, Vera Mae Skelton Estepp of Clarksville; two brothers, Marvin Perry Estepp Jr. of Texas and Jack Edward Estepp of Rogers; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Shaffer, Wesley Shay, Todd Watson, Lonnie Mize, Damon White and Steve Blasczyk.
John Blair
RICHARDSON, Texas — John W. Blair, 72, of Richardson, Texas, died Friday, March 8, 2002, in Dallas. He was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Chicago. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, graduated from the University of Arkansas and a chemist at the University of Texas at Dallas, continued his doctoral work at University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., and at U.T.D.; his work included development of chemical instruments sent on NASA space explorations with the Venus probes and was co-inventor of the Light Emitting Diode. He was a Eagle Scout and active in Boy Scout Troop No. 122 in Rogers and a member of Dallas Area Woodturners.
Funeral was March 12 in Stockdale Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers with burial at Fairview cemetery in Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; a daughter, Barbara Elaine Blair of Richardson, Texas; a son, John Martin Blair of Rogers; a sister, Virginia Jean Melton of Springdale; a brother, Franklin Martin Blair of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, John “Brennan” Blair and Kyle Blair, both of Rogers.

Andy Risenhoover
MENA — Andy Risenhoover, 93, of Mena died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in Mena. He was born Dec. 12, 1908, in Cherry Hill. He was a rancher, a welder in ship yards in Oregon during World War II, former chairman of Polk County Fair Association, was active in getting rodeo to Mena and was a rodeo producer during the ’40s and ’50s.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Tish; four nieces, June Miciollo of Shreveport, Juanita Page of Mena, Ernestine Dodson and Nowanda Roby, both Oklahoma City; a nephew, G.S. “Junior” Blair of Mena; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Randy and Damon Holmes, Bill Strother, Jimmy Clyde Crenshaw, Leroy Mauldin and Tuffy Williams.
Jewell Riggs
KELLER, Texas — Jewell E. Riggs, 87, of Keller, Texas, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, in Keller. She was born Oct. 4, 1914, in Mansfield. She was a member of South MacArthur Church of Christ and the widow of Ledric Riggs.
Funeral was March 15 in South MacArthur Church of Christ with graveside service March 16 at Monroe cemetery in Monroe, Okla., under the direction of Chism-Smith Funeral Home of Irving, Texas.
She is survived by three daughters, Suzanne Morgan and Lee Riggs, both of Addison, Texas, and Linda Spain of South Lake, Texas; two sisters, Mildred Conway of Huntington and Hazel Woods of Monroe; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harrison Currier
WALDRON — Harrison Douglas Currier, 84, of Waldron died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired butane owner and operator and a member of Pentecostal Church of God.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday in Waldron Pentecostal Church of God with burial at Hon cemetery in Hon under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna Currier and Gretta Newman, both of Fort Smith; a son, Burl Wayne Bottoms of Fort Smith; two brothers, Jim and Paul “Bill” Currier, both of Waldron; and two grandchildren, Mitchell and Douglas Bottoms.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Bottoms, Earl Bates, Tom McCann, Robert Newman, Worman Owens and Jessie Stringer.

Clarence Wilson
MENA — Clarence N. Wilson, 83, of Mena died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in Mena. He was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Attawa, Kan. He was an Air Force veteran, an insurance salesman and a member of the VFW and Church of Christ.
The body was sent for cremation under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Union Mission Pentecostal Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; a niece, Diane Daniels of Royal, Ark.; a nephew, Silas Rippee of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and two grandnephews.

James Crask
CLARKSVILLE — James R. Crask, 72, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March, 19, 2002, in his home. He was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Owensboro, Ky. He was a machinist and a Catholic.

HATFIELD — Reva Edith Gann, 81, of Hatfield died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in her home. She was born April 19, 1920, in Mena. She was a homemaker and member of Hatfield Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Roland; two sons, R.D. Gann of Mena and Scott Gann of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren, Rolana Adair and Rochelle Gann, both of Mena, and Michelle Gann.

HEAVENER — Titus Lee Herrington, infant son of Justyne Chronister and Cody Herrington of Heavener, died Monday, March 18, 2002, in Oklahoma City.

ARKOMA — Mildred Olivia “Tooter” Statham, 86, of Arkoma, formerly of Spiro, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Arkoma. She was a member of Spiro First Baptist Church and the widow of Bill Statham.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Spiro City cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Ann Bridges of Spiro and Betsy Lynn Criswell of Muldrow; a son, Larry Wayne Statham of Coweta, Okla.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Diana Blackwell
CORNWALL, N.Y. — Diana “McClain” Blackwell, 44, of Cornwall, N.Y., died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in New York. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, church chaperon, involved with Baptist Women’s organizations, a Cub Scout leader, an elementary teacher; she received her master’s in special education, was commissioned as Home Missionary by the North American Mission Board in 1993 and moved to New York to begin service to the cadets at West Point.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a daughter, Christina Marie of the home; a son, Stuart Andrew of the home; her parents, Virgil and Bobbie McClain of Springfield, Va.; and a sister, Pamela Watts of Burke, Va.
