Clovis Ackerman
LAMAR — Clovis Eviline “Honey” Ackerman, 92, of Lamar died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and the widow of James H. Ackerman.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Dennard cemetery in Dennard under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by a daughter, Freddie Dickerson of London; a son, James “Bud” Ackerman of Springdale; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cabin Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 315, Lamar, AR 72846.

Delton Price
Delton E. Price, 78, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Vandervoort. He was retired from the Agriculture Extension Service, where he served as County Agent, primarily in Franklin County and as an Economic Resource agent in Fort Smith for Western Arkansas. He was a tree farmer in Polk County, served in World War II and graduated from University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He was the widower of Betty Price.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Nancy Price Mendenhall of Gainesville, Fla., and Sharon Bollin of Fort Smith; two sons, Blake L. Price of Little Rock and Grant Price of Mansfield, Texas; a sister, Irene Staggs of Batesville; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice, 7301 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72903.

LeRoy Vest
KNOT HOLE, Okla. — LeRoy Vest, 86, of Knot Hole, Okla., died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in his home. He was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Poteau. He worked for Klutts Construction Company and retired from Oklahoma State Corporation Commission and was past Worshipful Master of the Poteau Masonic Lodge. He was the widower of Retha Vest.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Fair Hill cemetery in Cameron under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by a son, Gary D. Vest of Knot Hole, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Shauna M. Vest Johnston of Tulsa and Joe Ellen Vest Harris of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Pallbearers will be Glin Green, Don Ed Self, Ray and J.R. Pierce, Kip and Dusty Klutts.

Michael Emberson
MAGAZINE — Michael William Emberson, 39, of Magazine died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in Havana. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Magazine.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Magazine with burial at Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Valrie; a son, Charley Micha Emberson of Magazine; his mother, Molly Emberson of Magazine; two sisters, Diane Beggs of Magazine and Dottie Beggs of Driggs; a brother, Jamie Emberson of Magazine.
Pallbearers will be Billy Jo McCubbins, Tommy and Dee Blaylock, Walt Robertson, David Lewis and Wayne Jackson.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Reba Moore
STIGLER — Reba B. Moore, 89, of Stigler died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, in Stigler. She worked several years in the orchard fields in California and was a farmer and active member of Rocky Ridge Baptist Church. She was the widow of Looney Moore.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Rocky Ridge Baptist Church with burial at Whtiefield cemetery in Whitefield under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by three brothers, R.L. and Carl Bryce, both of Stigler, and Marvin Bryce of Iowa.
Pallbearers will be Andrew and Kyle Horton, Kensey and Kayla Jones, David Bryce and Gerard Perry.

Steven Morin Jr.
MENA — Steven Russell Morin Jr., 18, of Mena died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002. He was born Feb. 9, 1984, in Houston. He was a deck hand on a tugboat and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mena.
A memorial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mena. The body was sent for cremation under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his parents, Steven and Desiree Morin of Mena; two sisters, Felicia Bower and Crystal Bower of New York; his grandparents, Hazel and Dan Arndt of Mena and Mary Ann Lee of Houston.

Pink Wise
MARLOW, Okla. — Pink Wise, 88, of Marlow, Okla., formerly of Heavener, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in Marlow, Okla. She was a member of Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Church of Christ in Heavener with burial at Monroe cemetery in Monroe under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Addison of Heavener and Sharon Hornbuckle of Marlow, Okla.; a son. Floyd E. “Butch” Wise of El Reno, Okla.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Alton Willis
HUNTINGTON — Alton R. Willis, 86, of Huntington died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was retired from Fort Chaffee and a member of Mansfield Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mansfield Church of Christ with burial at Union Ridge cemetery in Dayton under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; five daughters, Bettye Cumbie, Nell Porter and Elaine Ware, all of Huntington, Jane Christie of Muldrow and Judy Norried of Fort Smith; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jackie and Brian Cumbie, Gary Noyes, Larry Porter, Shawn Wood and Phillip Ware.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Lane
ALIX — James W. Lane, 68, of Alix died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, in Fort Smith hospital. He was born July 8, 1935, in Pokipski, N.Y. He was a self-employed television repairman.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Belt cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a daughter, JoAnn Nejera of Mounds, Okla.; the sons, Johnny Stout of Tulsa, Frank Stout of Fayetteville and Dewayne Stout of Westville, Okla.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

John Shoemaker
John Earl “Jack” Shoemaker, 90, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born April 25, 1913, in Seattle. He graduated from Harvard University in 1935 where he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in metallurgy the following year. He was a metallurgical engineer in Ohio, Michigan and Fayetteville. In 1948, he became dean of men at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, was ordained to the priesthood of the Episcopal Church in 1955, became rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fort Smith, served until 1967, was rector at All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Russellvlle, taught mathematics at Arkansas Tech University, retired in 1978 and served as interim rector and supply priest for Episcopal churches throughout the Diocese of Arkansas.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fort Smith with burial at 4 p.m. at Mount Holly cemetery in Little Rock under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Embry; three daughters, Gerturde Bunge of Wilmette, Ill., Eleanor Foltz of Fort Smith and Audley Hall of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to any Episcopal Church in Arkansas or charity of donor’s choice.

Buddy Corbett
Buddy Corbett, 62, of Van Buren died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in Van Buren. He was an Army veteran and an electrician.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Judy Nuckolls of the home; a son, Jarred Burrows of the home; a sister, Marylyn Wright of Pine Bluff; a brother, Joe L. Bottom of Rison; and two grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Frances Hamm
Frances Corine Hamm, 73, of Van Buren died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Gracelawn cemetery Arbor in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Monroe; two daughters, April Stone of Van Buren and Delores Campbell of Stigler; four sons, Edwin and Rocky Hamm, both of Fort Smith, Lance Hamm of Van Buren and Charles Hanmm of Anadarko, Okla.; a sister, Norma Tackett of Kentucky; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joe and Jason Stone, David, DeWayne and Terry Hamm and Paul Kruise.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James A. Wooten
James A. Wooten, 74, of Paris died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in Paris. He was a retired dairy farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ruben and Mary Esther McCubbins Wooten; and his brothers, John Harley Wooten, Otho Wooten and William Virgil Wooten.
Celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. today in his home near Paris for family and friends. His cremation will be under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Pairs.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Wooten of Paris; two daughters, Anita Faye Whorton of Birmingham, Ala., and Theresa Lynn Salinas, of Paris; two sons, James H. Wooten and John Boyce Wooten, both of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Roxy Farrell of Dover and Tatia Irwin of Dardanellle; a stepson, Race Crowell of Dardanelle; four sisters, Lois Jester of Fort Smith, Nova Jean West of Ratcliff, Catherine Sing and Ruby McElroy, both of Paris; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John Earl “Jack” Shoemaker
John Earl “Jack” Shoemaker, age 89, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born in Seattle on April 25, 1913. He graduated from Harvard University in 1935, where he received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in metallurgy by following year. He married Embry Scott of Little Rock in 1936. They lived in Youngstown, Ohio, Detroit and Fayetteville, during which times he was a metallurgical engineer.
In 1948, he became dean of men at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He was ordained to the priesthood of the Episcopal Church in 1955, when he moved to Fort Smith to become rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He served at St. John’s until 1967, when he moved to Russellville to become rector of All Saint’s Episcopal Church. While in Russellville, he also taught mathematics and world religions at Arkansas Tech University. He retired in 1978, and for the next 20 years as a retired priest, he served as interim rector and supply priest for many Episcopal churches throughout the Diocese of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Embry Shoemaker, who died in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Embry Scott Shoemaker; three daughters, Gertrude Bunge of Wilmette, Ill., Eleanor Foltz of Fort Smith and Audley Hall of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, William and Katherine Bunge, Henry Foltz, Embry Foltz Curry, Joanna and Scott Hall; and four great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. today at St. John’s Episcopal Church with burial at 4 p.m. at Mount Holly cemetery in Little Rock under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan and William Bunge, Henry Foltz, Scott and Jason Hall and Michael Curry.
Memorial contributions may be made to any Episcopal Church in Arkansas or to the charity of donor’s choice.

Francis Hood
TUCSON, Ariz. — Francis Maybelle Hood, 69, of Tucson, Ariz., died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, in Tucson. She was a graduate of Hackett High School and a homemaker.
The body was cremated. Local arrangements under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; a daughter, Zenda Morris of Durango, Colo.; a son, Joey Hood of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Lonnie Kuandart of Bonanza and Johnnie Kuandart of Midland, Texas.

Terry Primo
Terry Ray Primo, 49, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a construction worker and was a Protestant.
Funeral was Friday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Cremation with burial of ashes at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; two daughters, Sara Primo of Fayetteville and Tara Primo of Dallas; two sons, Steven Primo of Fayetteville and Matthew Primo of Dallas; his mother and stepfather, Alvena and Robert Donnell of Festus, Mo.; and one grandchild.
