POTEAU — W.C. Austin Jr., 74, of Poteau died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in Poteau. He was born May 20, 1928, in Poteau. He was a veteran of the Army, a retired mail carrier and a member of First Christian Church in Poteau, where he was choir director for more than 20 years.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Poteau with burial at Oakland cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; and a son, Brian Keith Austin of the home.

Emma Odel
HULBERT, Okla. — Emma Bertha Odell, 87, of Hulbert, Okla., died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in Muskogee. She was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Pryor, Okla. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church in Hulbert and with her husband managed the Three Forks Ranch. She was the widow of Grady L. Odell.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Hulbert with burial at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Hulbert under the direction of Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner, Okla.
She is survived by four sons, Owen Odell of Van Buren, E.L. Odell of Sand Springs, Okla., Jim and Steve Odell, both of Hulbert, Okla.; a brother, Howard Thompson of Oneta; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael, Jimmy, Brent, Steven and Brian Odell and Bryan Craig.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the American Diabetes. Association.

Naomi Robertson
HATFIELD — Naomi Lillian Robertson, 86, of Hatfield died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in Mena. She was born Jan. 9, 1916, in Okmulgee County. She was a homemaker, a member of First Christian Church in California and the widow of Lee Otis Robertson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Hall Funeral Service Memorial Chapel in Mena with burial at Shafter Memorial Park in Kern County, Calif.
She is survived by five sons, Joe Robertson of Fruitsland, Idaho, Bill Robertson of Marysville, Calif., Thurman Robertson of Hatfield, Don and Walter Robertson, both of Oden; two sisters; 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Anna McCrea
PRATTVILLE, Ala. — Anna Louise McCrea, 74, of Prattville, Ala., formerly of Fort Smith, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002.
A memorial service will be at a later date in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Prattville Memorial Chapel of Prattville, Ala.
She is survived by two daughters, Pat Foster of Marietta, Calif., and Kaylene Aguilar of Riverside, Calif.; two sons, Michael McCrea of Hemet, Calif., and Gary McCrea of Prattville, Ala.; a sister, Helen Ford of Fort Smith; a brother, Clarence Jones of Millbrook, Ala.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Buster Jones
Johnny Edward “Buster” Jones, 60 of Van Buren died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a technician for S&R Equipment.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; two daughters, Carla Scruggs of Van Buren and Gina Ashlock of Dyer; two sons, Wayne and Mike Jones, both of Van Buren; three sisters, Velma Butler of Kibler, Patricia Miller of Harman and Susie Richards of Coal Hill; two brothers, Allen Jones of Van Buren and James Jones of Muldrow; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Johnny, Jeffery, James Arville Jones, Tokey Roam, John Tindle and Jimmy Brewer.

Carl Godfrey
BOONEVILLE — Carl Dan Godfrey, 75, of Booneville died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in an area hospital. He was a retired laborer and a member of the Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roberts Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with burial at Lick Creek cemetery near Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Leona; two sisters, Claudine Scharbour and Patsy Wilson, both of Booneville; and two brothers, Raymond and Damon, both of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be nephews Daniel, Damon, Eric and Derick Godfrey, Paul White and Gary Scharbour.

Lorene Collins
PANAMA — Lorene Faye Collins, 75, of Panama died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in Panama. She was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Williams, Okla. She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland cemetery Pavilion in Poteau with burial at Oakland cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by her husband, John; a stepson, Terry Collins of Yam Hill, Ore.; three sisters, Audie Palmer of Amarillo, Texas, Geraldine Collins of Okmulgee, Okla., and Shirley Darneal of Panama; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Hugh Corbin
SUMMERFIELD — Hugh “Hughbie” Corbin, 83, of Summerfield died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in his home. He was a longtime resident of the Summerfield area, a member of the Heart of the Hills Baptist Church, a retired plumber and air conditioner repairman and a veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Elsie Corbin.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Heart of the Hills Baptist Church in Summerfield with burial at Fairview cemetery in Panama under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna Ritter of Summerfield; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Glenn Everett
SALLISAW — Glenn Jay Alvin Everett Jr., 46, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in Pocola. He was born Jan. 6, 1956, in Los Angeles. He was in the auto paint and body business and was a Baptist.
Funeral will be Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Huffington cemetery west of Sallisaw.
He is survived by four sons, Glenn Everett III and Addison Jay Everett, both of Sallisaw, Christopher of Wichita, Kan., and Alan of McAlester, Okla; a stepdaughter, Patricia Christenberry of Fort Smith; two stepsons, Brian and Shawn Christenberry, both of Fort Smith; his mother, Kay Marchant of Sallisaw; and three grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Oscar Brassfield
MENA — Oscar Brassfield, 81, of Mena died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in an area hospital. He was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Hartford. He lived in Mena since 1946, moving there from Hartford. He served in the Navy, then worked in the coal mines for 12 years. He was a master plumber for 20 years and owned and operated a furniture and appliance store for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the Union Mission Pentecostal Church of God, where he taught Sunday school, American Legion Commander Club, Chamber of Commerce and Optimist Club and was a pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the at the Union Mission Pentecostal Church of God with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Florenda; an adopted daughter, Yolanda of Mena; two sons, five sisters, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary and Samuel Brassfield, Bill McMillan, Don Kelly, Walter Williams, Greg Ennis and Kelly and Douglas Ennis.

Leoda Hughes
WALDRON — Leoda Gimlin Hughes, 85, of Waldron died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in a Waldron nursing home. She was a homemaker, a Baptist and the widow of Cecil Hughes and Garland Gimlin.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Bush cemetery near Waldron.
She is survived by a son, Bobby Gimlin of Lake Hinkle; and one grandchild.
The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Annie Thomas
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Annie Lucille Thomas, 91, of Sacramento, Calif., died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in Sacramento. She was a retired home decorator for the Boston Store in Fort Smith, a member of the First Baptist Church in Sacramento and the widow of Carl Thomas.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dawson cemetery in Milltown under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by a son, Tommy Ray Thomas of Sacramento.
Stateroom hours will be 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home.

Hester Brown
MENA — Hester Brown Harris, 85, of Mena died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, in a Terre Haute, Ind., hospital. She was born March 20, 1917, in Foreman. She lived most of her life in Mena and was a farm worker and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bulger cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
She is survived by a daughter, Melvie Smiley of Mena; a son, Daniel Cunningham of Mena; a sister, Marie Sherrouse of Wickes; a brother, Albert Renfroe of Wallowa, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Roy Cooper
Roy Alan Cooper, 49, of Paris died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was employed by the Booneville Human Development Center in Booneville and was a former employee of Winn Caribe Cable Co. of Fort Smith and an Army veteran.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Booneville Christian Center with burial at Oak Hill cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki; two sons, DeCoty of Fort Smith and Benjamin of the home; his parents, Lee Roy and Laura Cooper of Booneville; a sister, Sue Hay of Booneville; and a brother, David of Little Rock.
Pallbearers will be Rick Hudson, Charles Gann, David Young, Stan Jones, Wade Urbin and Carl Cooper.

Zelpha Cox
HEAVENER — Zelpha Grace “Cherry” Cox, 78, of Heavener died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, in her home. She was a lifelong resident of Heavener, a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired cook for Vista Nursing Home.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with burial at Memorial Park in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by a daughter, Rita Zaera of Boliver, Mo.; a son, Bob Cherry of Red Oak, Okla.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Tommy Rush
LAVACA — Tommy Dwayne Rush, 62, of Lavaca died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 18, 1939, in Fort Smith. He was a retired truck driver, a Navy veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Lavaca with burial at Oak Valley cemetery south of Lavaca.
He is survived by his wife, Adgelene; a daughter, Deanna McMahon of Central City; a son, Shawn Rush of Lavaca; a sister, Yvonne Sommer of Sapulpa, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Arnold Sexton, Kim Tate, Jay Bob Puckett, Tim Parker, Danny Birch, Mike Green and George Talkington.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Sister Mary Edstrom
BARLING — Sister Mary Lucina Edstrom, R.S.M., 96, of Barling died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, in Barling. She was born Oct. 13, 1905, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and was batpized Bridget Theresa Edstrom on Oct. 16, 1905. She entered the Sisters of Mercy at Mount St. Mary’s Convent in Little Rock Sept. 15, 1927, and made her first vows Aug. 15, 1931. She received her bachelor’s degree from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. She taught for 42 years at various schools in Arkansas from 1928 to 1974. From 1974 to 1991, she did pastoral care ministry at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and retired at McAuley Convent in 1995.
Rosary will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at McAuley Convent Chapel in Barling. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at McAuley Convent Chapel with burial at Calvary cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
