DARDANELLE — Marie Crow of Dardanelle died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in Dardanelle. She was a nurse’s aide at Dardanelle Hospital and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a homemaker, a member of First Methodist in Dardanelle and the widow of Benton Crow.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cornwell Funeral Home Chapel in Dardanelle with burial at Brearley cemetery in Dardanelle.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Mabry of Barling and Nancy Moore of Dardanelle; five sons, Jackie Crow of Russellville, Jim Crow of Bixby, Okla., Johnny Crow of Morrilton, James Crow of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Ronnie Crow of Dardanelle; two sisters, Bennie Hilburn of Perryville and Juanita Hintz of Evansville, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brandon, Jeff and Ronnie Joe Crow, Jim McCaw, Blake Driver, Mike May and Mark Schweinfurth.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jerry Wayne Burney
Jerry Wayne Burney, 71, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born April 20, 1931, in Iowa Park, Texas. He was a retired oil field driller, a Marine veteran of the Korean War, a member of Community Bible Church and the American Legion Post No. 31. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ewing Joe Burney, a son, Jerry Wayne “Butch” Burney Jr.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Joy of the home; a daughter, Deborah Button of Azle, Texas; a son, Brett Burney of Abilene, Texas; a stepdaughter, Monica Crain of Fort Smith; a stepson, Michael Crain of Fort Smith; his stepmother, Wanna Burney of Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister, Bebe “Babe” Hummel of Wichita Falls, Texas; a half sister, Dianna Crowe of Wichita Falls, Texas; two half brothers, Daryl and Michael Burney, both of Wichita Falls, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Emily Travis of Abilene, Texas, Sean Button and Leslie Holland, both of Fort Worth, Texas, Josh Button of Austin, Texas, Brianna Cave of California, Crystal Burney of Oklahoma, Charles Stevens of Little Rock, Kelli Price and Shaun and Courtney Crain, all of Fort Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Seth Travis of Abilene, Texas; a niece, Delores Hummel of Fort Worth, Texas, and three nephews, Andrew, Donald and Harvey Hummel, all of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Diabetes Association.

George Pipkins
POCOLA — George W. Pipkins, 81, of Pocola died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Pocola. He was a farmer, owner and operator of Pipkins Store in Pocola for 25 years and a member of Christian Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pocola. He was the widower of Annie Pipkins.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Christian Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Pocola with burial at Macedonia cemetery in Pocola under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Pocola.
He is survived by four daughters, Patricia Ogden, Wanda and Gail Kay Pipkins and Jane Damato, all of Pocola; three sons, Jimmy, Jay and Johnny Pipkins, all of Pocola; a sister, Gladys Karl of Pocola; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bob and Billy Sykes, Charles, Jonathan, Tom, Aaron and David Pipkins and Larry Williams.
The family will visit with friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James DeVore
MOUNTAINBURG — James Leroy DeVore, 74, of Mountainburg died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in his home. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War, retired from Arkansas Highway Department and a member of Alma Full Gospel Outreach.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Alma Full Gospel Outreach with burial at Parks cemetery in Winslow under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille; three daughters, Lucy Wilkes of Alma, Glenda Vanourny of Mountainburg and Denise Swafford of Burleson, Texas; a son, James D. DeVore of Mountainburg; two sisters, Ruth Adams of Fresno, Calif., and Kathryn DeVore of West Fork; a brother, John DeVore of Prairie Grove; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Dale, Jerry, Leon and Jim DeVore, Randall and Larry Tomilson.

Windolan Kesterson
FRIENDSWOOD, Texas — Windolan Willie “Dode” Kesterson, 76, of Friendswood, Texas, formerly of Cove, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, in Texas. He was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Cove. He retired as a lieutenant commander from the Navy after 35 years and served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pearland, Texas. He was the widower of Joyce Kesterson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Church of the Nazarene in Cove with burial at Pleasant Grove cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home in Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Laurel; two daughters, Sylvia Gillett of Bellingham, Wash., and Megan Kesterson of Friendswood, Texas; five brothers, Hollis Kesterson of Longview, Texas, Gerald and Steve Kesterson, both of Cove, Wayne Kesterson of Hope and Vaughn Kesterson of Mount Ida; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Burn Hospital, 815 Market, Galveston, TX 77550.

Raleigh Morton
HEAVENER — Raleigh Eugene Morton, 90, of Heavener died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in Poteau. He was born March 19, 1912, in Sallisaw. He was retired from KCS Railroad, a member of the Cherokee Tribe and the Assembly of God in Heavener. He was the widower of Sarah Jane Morton.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Forever Mount Washington with burial at Forever Mount Washington cemetery in Independence, Mo. Local arrangements are under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by two daughters, Violet Mistretta of North Kansas City, Mo., and Christine Lessley of Heavener; three sons, Carl Morton of Lawson, Mo., Tom Morton of Blue Springs, Mo., and Jim Morton of Carl Junction, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Diana Dorey
POTEAU — Diana Schwab Dorey, 66, of Poteau died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Jan. 20, 1936, in Winfield, Kan. She was a homemaker.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; a daughter, Lisa Wallace of Muldrow; a son, Mike Dorey of Poteau; and five grandchildren.

Martha Alverson
CHARLESTON — Martha “Rosalie” Alverson, 87, of Charleston died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was born July 5, 1915, in Sebastian County. She was a secretary for Nationwide Insurance Company in San Francisco, a 50-year member of Golden Gate Chapter Eastern Star in San Francisco and a member of First Baptist Church in Charleston.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Steep Hill cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Afton Looney, Bill Bowen, Reed Haynes, Boyd Burton, Jerry Sharpe and Gene Brown.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Othel Efurd
LAVACA — Othell J. Efurd, 64, of Lavaca died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Mansfield. He was a retired cement mason.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hartford Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a daughter, Brenda Davis of Bella Vista; a son, Shawn Patrick Efurd of Lavaca; three brothers, Lloyd, Jerry and Terry Efurd, all of Mansfield.

Buford Quick
STIGLER — Buford Quick, 79, of Stigler died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in Stigler.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Whitefield cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; a daughter, Connie Quick of the home; three sons, Ronnie Quick of Stigler, Alan Quick of Porum and David Quick of Meade, Kan.; three sisters, Lois Crew of Vinita, Barbara Jean Allen of Blocker and Maxine Brantley of Kirville, Texas; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jack Rogers, Kenneth King, Charles Don Robertson, C.B. Craft, Jerry Janson and David Minyard.

David Vorpagel
WALDRON — David Ray Vorpagel, 43, of Waldron died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in a Little Rock hospital. He was a Navy veteran, an employee of St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and attended Waldron First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday at Waldron First Baptist Church with burial at 11 a.m. at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by his wife, Esther; a daughter, Syndeea of the home; two sons, Keith and Richard, both of the home; a stepdaughter, Kellie Timmons of Springfield, Ill.; his father, Donald Vorpagel of Sterling, Okla.; three sisters, Debbie Newton of Tulsa, Pat Parsley of Cyril, Okla., and Wanda Houghtaling or Watertown, N.Y.; three brothers, Donnie of Duncan, Okla., Kenneth of Sterling, Okla., and Tommy of Elgin, Okla.; and one grandchild.

Lillie Caughern
HODGEN — Lillie Caughern, 82, of Hodgen, formerly of El Centro, Calif., died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in Heavener. She was a retired drug store clerk and of the Mormon faith. She was the widow of Odie Caughern.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Hodgen cemetery.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty Kennerson of El Centro, Calif., and Lillian Smith of Heavener.

Dale Freeman Jr.
RUSSELLVILLE — Dale Allen Freeman Jr., 27, of Russellville died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in a Little Rock hospital. He was employed at Bowden Specialties.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Annie’s Chapel cemetery in Lamar.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal; two daughters, Destiny Lynn and Chasity Danielle Freeman, both of the home; two sons, Chad Allen Freeman and David Scott Freeman, both of the home; his parents, Dale Allen and Deborah Faye Freeman of Lamar; two sisters, Tearesa Ann Moore of Pottsville and Marsha Faye Wade of Russellville.
Pallbearers will be Michael Collier, James Moore, Buddy Ellis, Sami Ross, Donnie Davis and Tommy Perrin.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Megan Thomison
SALLISAW — Megan RaeLynn Thomison, infant daughter of Tammy Thomison of Sallisaw died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, in Poteau.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Amie and Summer Thomison, both of the home; and her grandparents, George and Linda Thomison of Sallisaw.

Andy Melton
Andy Melton, 32, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in his home. He was born Nov. 18, 1970, in Fort Smith. He was a hair stylist and of the Pentecostal faith.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cottonwood cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; a stepdaughter, Catrina Stewart of Fort Smith; a stepson, Daniel Kinney of Fort Smith; his mother, Priscilla Moore of Fort Smith, his father, Loyd Melton Jr. of Muldrow; two sisters, Kathie Beshears and Tiffanie Carter, both of Kaufman, Texas; three brothers, Brian Melton of Lavaca and Bobby and Steven Milton, both of Fort Smith; paternal grandparents, Lloyd Melton Sr. of Muldrow; maternal grandmother, Freda Moore of Van Buren; paternal great-grandmother, Ellie Snow of Stigler; and eight stepgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bryan, Bobby and Steven Melton, Jamie Moore, Danny Hodges and Samuel Stewart
The body may be viewed 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Oliver Harkreader
LAVACA — Oliver P. Harkreader, 90, of Lavaca died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born Aug. 15, 1912, in Charleston. He was a retired Civil Service employee, a member of First Baptist Church and former deacon.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Lavaca cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Woody and Davin Green, Buddy Smithson, Gary Smith, Freddy Graham and Jim Bean.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Leon McGuire
KEOTA — Leon “Blue” McGuire, 74, of Keota died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Fort Smith. He worked many years for Haskell County as a truck driver and served in the Army and was a Korean War veteran.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Keota City cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Cowan of Springdale and Wendy Brooks of Mulberry; three sons, Tommy and Timmy McGurie, both of Keota, and Tracy McGurie of Spiro; a sister, Lavelle Williams of Oklahoma City; three brothers, Harold “Gene” McGuire of Sallisaw, Jerald McGuire of Prague, Okla., and Murl McGuire of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Pete, Jerry, David, Tracy McGuire and Tracy McGuire Jr. and John Cowan.
The body may be viewed Friday at the funeral home in Keota.
