George Cullers
George Rayford Cullers, 84, of Fort Smith died Friday, March 15, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a retired warehouseman for the Southern Pacific Railroad, a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, the American Legion and VFW.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Thee; four daughters, Brunetta Williams and Judy Christian, both of Fort Smith, Esther Lee Windom of McAlester, Okla., and Christie Williams of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dimie Woosley
Dimie Roberson Woosley, 94, of Van Buren died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Van Buren. She was a retired LPN and was Assembly of God. She was the widow of Troy Roberson and Stoy Woosley.
Funeral was held Saturday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by two daughters, Violet Knox Coppinger of Van Buren and Velda Jo Randall of Ozark; two sisters, Vola Montgomery and Sula Garrett, both of Clarksville; and four grandchildren.
James Groves
James H. Groves, 79, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was born July 19, 1922, in Poteau. He graduated from Fort Smith High School, served in the Army and World War II in the European Theater of War, earned a bachelor’s degree in music from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, served on faculty of Mills College in San Francisco in the 1940s, was director of music for First Christian Church, formed the first handbell choir in the State of Arkansas, was director of music for Lakeside Presbyterian Church and was area chairman of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers Inc.
Committal service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roselawn cemetery in Fort Smith. Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a sister, Nell Tatum of Fort Smith; a brother, Claude Groves of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Jack Sallee, Keller and Bob Groves, Bill Moran, Pete Hatley and Randy Alexander.

James B. Copening
James B. Copening, 81, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in his home. He was born Nov. 18, 1920, in Iola, Kan. He was a salesman for Cotner Monument, a member of the Lions Club and he owned the last Coca-Cola Bottlers Distributor between Wichita and Kansas City. He was the widower of the late Betty Copening.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Park cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by two sons, Eric Copening of Rogers and John Copening of Orlando, Fla..; a sister, Frances Dundas of Dunedin, Fla.; two brothers, Robin Copening of Dunedin, Fla., and John Copening of Iola, Kan.; two grandchildren, Erika and John Michael Copening, both of Orlando, Fla.
The body may be viewed 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.
Jeffrey L. Prusinski
Jeffrey L. Prusinski, 36, of Van Buren died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in a local hospital. He was retired from Albertsons in Las Vegas, a native of Chicago, a former resident of Las Vegas and a two-year resident of Van Buren.
No services are scheduled. The body will be cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his parents, Leonard and Betty Prusinski of Van Buren; two sisters, Deborah Shelly of Alma and Kristine Randt of Barling; a brother, David Prusinski of Las Vegas and an aunt, Luci Lindstrom of Chicago.
Gene Waldon
Gene Waldon went to be with his eternal father on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at the age of 89. Gene was born to William Randolph Waldon and Emma Sewell Waldon on Dec. 22, 1912, in Oil City, La. His family moved to Ozark in the early 1920s, where he graduated from high school and attended the University of the Ozarks, Arkansas Tech University and the University of Arkansas graduating with a master’s degree in chemistry. He taught school until 1951 when he became a Field Underwriter for the New York Life Insurance Company and continued in this work for the next 50 years. He was active in all aspects of the community of Ozark, including being a member of the school board for 25 years and was president of the southern region of the National School Board Association. He was president of the board of Turner Memorial Hospital and was instrumental in arranging for its purchase by St. Edward Health System, so that Ozark would continue to be served by a hospital. He was active in the First Methodist Church of Ozark, where he taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and served in many other capacities. He served in the World War II as a commander of a destroyer in the South Pacific Theater following his graduation from the Coast Guard Academy. He was active in the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and numerous other civic functions in Ozark. His favorite pastime was helping others and will be remembered as a friend to all he met. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dean Mallett Waldon; a daughter and son-in-law, Joe Beth Waldon Johnson and Anthony A. Johnson of Ozark; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene Bruce and Vicki Jo Acord Waldon of Rogers. He is survived by four grandchildren, Amber Johnson Landers of Fayetteville, Megan Johnson of Ozark, Laura Waldon of Overland Park, Kan. and Jason Waldon of Hoboken, N.J. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and six sisters.
Services will be 10 a.m. today at First Methodist Church under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers will be Joe Powell, Jim Medley, Bill Hudspeth, Harold Dickerson, Jim Mainard and Artie Cook.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Gibbons, Ed Milton, L.G. Foster, Cliff Mainard, Floy Shastid, James Hilburn and Art Timmerman.

Arlis F. Dotson Sr.
Arlis F. Dotson Sr., 80, of Subiaco died Thursday, July 29, 2002, in Paris. Mr. Dotson was born in Midway on March 19, 1922, to Colonel and Deloris (Horn) Dotson. He attended Midway Assembly of God, was a World War II veteran in the European Theater of War and was a member of VFW Post 8383 of New Blaine. He was a retired sales manager for a farm equipment company. Mr. Dotson graduated from Paris High School in 1940 and attended Freed Hardiman College in Henderson, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents Colonel and Deloris (Horn) Dotson; and a brother, John Paul Dotson.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in Midway Assembly of God with burial at Horn cemetery in Midway under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by six daughters and four sons-in-law, Dana and Ken Proffer of Grand Rapids, Mich., Dorothy and George Overman of Flint, Mich., Susie Perrine of Las Vegas, Nev., Debbie Otto of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dejon and Dan Kincer of Abilene, Texas, and Anna and Chris Debolt of Midwest City, Okla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Arlis F. and Janet Dotson Jr. of Goodrich, Mich.; two sisters, Atha Inman and Anna Smedley of Clarksville; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Pat Dotson of Easyville, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Joyce Dotson of Nipomo, Calif.; a special friend, Carolyn Bowen of Booneville; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Daniel Elton Nance Sr.
Daniel Elton Nance Sr., 87, of Muldrow died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, in Sallisaw. Mr. Nance was retired from Acme Brick where he worked 24 years. He was a veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist faith, loved to farm and raise hogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kersey and Amelia Rucks Nance, a brother, Necola Nance and a sister, Nanett Brockington.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with burial at Shady Grove cemetery in Roland under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Dovie Nance of the home; a daughter, Edna Mae Carter and Johnny of Flint, Mich.; a son, Waymon and Minnie Louise Nance of Muldrow; three sisters, Ocie Johnson and Margaret Crawford, both of Coffeyville, Kan., and Cecil Lucas of Dallas; 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wayne, Waymon, Justin and James Nance, Anthony Sheppard Jr. and Callas West
The body may be viewed at the funeral home in Sallisaw.
The family will visit with friends starting Wednesday.

HUNTINGTON — James Daily, 66, of Huntington died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in his home. He was born Oct. 31, 1935, in Jethro. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Midland Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Midland Assembly of God with burial at Coop-Prairie cemetery in Mansfield under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Bulah; a daughter, Elaine Moore of Fort Smith; two sons, Dwaine Daily of Alma and Darrel Daily of Greenwood; three stepdaughters, Glenda Yates of Springdale, Brenda Smith of Fort Smith and Kelley Lackey of Huntington; a sister, Linda Henson of Moore, Okla.; two brothers, Earl Daily of Natchez, Miss., and Dr. Richard Daily of Russellville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Willie Joe Russell, 61, of Van Buren died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in his home. He was an employee of Riverside Furniture.

NELLA COMMUNITY — Mark Littler “Patch” Stubblefield, 46, of Nella Community died Monday, July 29, 2002, in his home. He was a merchant seaman and attended Chant Pentecostal Church of God.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; two sisters, Sharon Stubblefield and Kathy Blakefield, both of Washington, D.C.; and a brother, Tom Stubblefield of New Jersey.

Georgetta Maxine Thompson, 84, of Fort Smith, formerly of Tulsa, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a businesswoman and a lifelong Methodist. She was the widow of Murray J. Stine.
Graveside service will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Rose Hill Funeral Home of Tulsa.
She is survived by three daughters, Faunelle Deaton of Tulsa, Linda Startzman of Fort Smith and Kathy Nelson of Oklahoma City; four sons, Robert Taylor of Tulsa, Mike Stine of Colorado, Claude Rogers Jr., of Fort Smith and James Rogers of Little Rock; and 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

MENA — Rosie Mae Miller, 84, of Mena died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born April 2, 1918, Greenbrier. She was a homemaker and the widow of Mose Miller.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Acorn Baptist Church. The body was sent for cremation under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by a daughter, Almeda Johnston of Mena; a son, Jessie C. Miller of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Molley Ashil of Bunch, Okla.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Hannah Leigh Ann Moring, infant daughter of Brian and Sarah Moring of Fort Smith, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in Little Rock.

MONROE — Hazel Ora Woods, 85, of Monroe died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born June 6, 1917, in Mansfield. She was a retired store manager, a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ. She was the widow of Relles Woods.
Funeral was held Monday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Monroe cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Hemphill of Bay Springs, Miss.; a sister, Mildred Conaway of Huntington; five grandchildren, Karen McNeil of Bay Springs, Miss., Benji Yelverton of French Settlement, La., Keith Woods of Houston, Don Woods of Cove and Tammi Meyer of Slidell, La.; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry and J.B. Riggs, Ronnie Dill, Ralph LaRosa, John Wilson and Jerry Stanley.
