Michael Staton Sr.
HUNTINGTON — Michael Dwayne Staton, Sr., 28, of Huntington died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, north of Huntington. He was a journeyman pipe fitter for Advanced Heating and Air and a member of the Plumber and Pipe Fitters Local No. 20. He coached Alma Rangers t-ball team.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Valley View cemetery in Excelsior Community under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He survived by two sons, Kurt and Michael Staton Jr., both of the home; a sister, Melody Cahoon of Greenwood; five brothers, John E. Staton Jr. of Huntington, Edward Lee Staton of Sugar Loaf, Richard Staton of Greenwood and Joe and Steven Staton, both of Tulsa; his fiancee, Dana Sears.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan, Charlie and Bill Howard Jr., James Fildes, Bill Tubby and Jackson Fox.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Plumber and Pipe Fitters UAW Local No. 29.

Gladys Dyer
Gladys B. Dyer, 79, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker and the widow of Buddy Dyer.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay Peters of Fort Smith; two sons, Bobby Dyer of Kemp, Texas and Bo Dyer of Greenwood; a sister, Lois Toon of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Roy Dempsey
POTEAU — Roy Dempsey, 44, of Poteau died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002. He was born June 20, 1958, in Poteau.
A private memorial service was held Sunday at Hodgen cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by a sister, Georgia Sterling of Poteau; and a brother, James Dempsey of Mena.

Lillard Berna
Lillard Berna, 83, of Van Buren died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in a local nursing home. He attended Hamtown Baptist Church and was the widower of Georgia Berna.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by six daughters, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbara Price and Beverly Raper, all of Alma, Linda Pittser of Rudy, Judy Kirkham of Mansfield and Teresa Wilson of Dyer; two sons, John and Bobby Berna, both of Dyer; a brother, Ernest Berna of Lincoln, Neb.; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Flora McMurtry
OKMULGEE, Okla. — Flora B. McMurtry, 80, of Okmulgee, Okla., formerly of Sallisaw, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in Tulsa. She was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Okmulgee and a homemaker. She was the widow of Lester McMurtry.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Slater of Okmulgee, Okla.; a son, Denny Paul Lemons of Seattle; three sisters, Helen Larremore of Sallisaw, Lea Merrill of McCall, Idaho, and Esther Kent of Bristow, Okla.; a brother, T.W. Hand of Sand Springs, Okla.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Timmie Perrine
MENA — Timmie Jolynn Jewell Perrine, infant daughter of Terri Allen Jewell of Mena and Lawrence Edward Perrine of Little Rock, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in Mena.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at White Oak cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Ethan and Jacob Jewell of Mena; maternal grandparents, Shirley and Frank Pearl of Octavia and Joe and Phyllis Floyd of Mena.

Cluvy Cole
SALLISAW — Cluvy Clyde Cole, 96, of Sallisaw died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in Sallisaw. He was born July 22, 1906, in Sallisaw. He was retired from Southwestern Wood Preserving Company in Sallisaw after 28 years, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, music minister at Immanuel Baptist Church and Mission for more than 30 years and was the oldest charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Velma; two daughters, Jeweldine Huckelbury of Houston and Dorothy Matthews of Sallisaw; a sister, Geneva Corbit of Muldrow; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Matthews, Brandon and David Young, Jerry Crase, Scott Acton and Pat Kennedy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Men’s Senior Adult Sunday school class at Immanuel Baptist Church.
The body may be viewed 1 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Max Ross
Max W. Ross, 97, of Van Buren died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was born April 3, 1905, in Danville. She was a former employee of Ward’s Furniture, a member of Maple Shade Church of the Nazarene and the widow of Leo Ross.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at New Berry Chapel cemetery in Alma.
She is survived by three daughters, Juanita Spruill of Oklahoma City, Launita Certain of Elk City, Okla., and Virginia Sooter of Gentry; two sons, Clyde B. Ross of Alma and Earl Ross of Cookson, Okla.; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Andy and Jon Ross, Jason and Joel Boen and Larry Spruill.

Gerald Campbell
MOUNTAINBURG — Gerald Campbell, 63, of Mountainburg died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in his home. He was born May 18, 1939, in Bidville. He was a cattleman and a Baptist.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Locke Free Will Baptist Church with burial at Bidville cemetery in Crawford County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann Bowline and Kelly Campbell, both of Alma; three sisters, Geneva Shepherd of Sunset Community, Josephine Reed of Mountainburg and Lois Holt of Ringold, Ga.; three brothers, Bill, Thurman and Denver Campbell, all of Locke.
Pallbearers will be Clyde and Ivan Moore, Dick Ray Douglas, Duke Campbell James Dollard, Larry Jackson and Randy Beller.

John Porter
ALMA — John William Porter, 89, of Alma died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was born Nov. 1, 1913, in Dyer. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Dyer Methodist Church, the DAV and was a retired farmer.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Alma with burial at Dyer cemetery in Dyer.
He is survived by a sister, Hazel Brown of Alma; and a brother, Stewart Porter of Alma.
Pallbearers will be Bill Molder, Joel Dyer, J.W. and Glen Porter, Mike Brown and Claude Hatley.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dyer Methodist Church, Dyer, AR 72935.

Lois Campbell
HOBBS, N.M. — Lois Campbell, 87, of Hobbs, N.M. died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in New Mexico. She was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Shreveport, La. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star having received her 50-year pin. She was the widow of J.V. Goss and George Campbell.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home of New Mexico.
She is survived by two sons, Benny Goss of Hobbs, N.M., and David Goss of Odessa, Texas; a sister, Freda Thomas of Barnsdall, Okla.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meals On Wheels at Hobbs Senior Center, 200 E. Park, Hobbs, NM 88240.

Artie Satterfield
POTEAU — Artie Satterfield, 80, of Poteau died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in his home. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Southside Baptist Church with burial at Hontubby cemetery in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; a daughter, Fannie Johnston of Poteau; a son, Ronald Satterfield of Poteau; three sisters, Mona Barnes of Heavener, Ruth Orr of Panama and Algonia Clough of Lawrence, Kan.; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest Jones
HEAVENER — Ernest Roger Jones, 83, of Heavener, formerly of Sapulpa, Okla., died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in Heavener. He was a veteran of World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Hodgen cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Wilkinson and Dianna Payne, both of Sapulpa, Okla.; three sons, Ronald and Gerald, both of Sapulpa, and Roger of Paris; three sisters, Etoyle and Nina Richards, both of Hodgen, and Pat Allison of Hartford; two brothers, Eugene of Sapulpa and Larry of Hodgen; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Leroy Estes
GANS — Leroy Estes, 67, of Gans died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in Sallisaw.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi; four daughters, Caroline Elliott and Sharon Ogden, both of Gans, Kathryn Lennox of Marion, N.Y., and Teresa Goss of Lavaca; a son, Wendell Estes of Sallisaw; a sister, Ruthie Terri of Lewistown, Mont.; two brothers, Burt Estes of Charlotte and Sterling Estes of Grubbs.
Pallbearers will be Calvin and Gregory Bailey, Jeremy Glidewell, Kendell Estes and Timothy Yonker.
The body was cremated, no viewing.

Alfred Furtado
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Alfred Edward Furtado, 92, of San Jose, Calif. died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002. He was the widower of Winona Eidschun Furtado.
He is survived by a son, Barry of San Jose, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Edith Irene Weitz
Edith Irene Weitz received peace in her home in Canadian, Okla., after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002. She was a member of Canadian United Methodist Church and the Canadian Chapter No. 378 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had been a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 yeas.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Canadian United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Saviers officiating. Burial will be at Crowder cemetery under the love and care of Gregg Funeral Home of Eufaula, Okla.
Edith was born in Hanna, Okla., on Sept. 3, 1920, to Benjamin Franklin and Bessie Hester Drennen Null. She married Henry T. Weitz, May 24, 1941, in Checotah, Okla. They were married for 56 years. She was a homemaker and a business owner in Canadian and Eufaula, Okla.
Edith is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Cleta and Mike Brown of Salllisaw, Shanna and Tony Lovitt of McAlester, Okla., and Becky and Hershel Franklin of Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Gilberta Arterberry of Tahlequah, Okla., and Shirley Burwell of Eufaula, Okla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Manuel and Mary Weitz of El Cajon, Calif., and Doug and Barbara Burwell of Eufaula, Okla.; eight grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and Mike McCormick of Fort Gibson, Michael and Anna Brown of Tahlequah, Okla., David and Jolene Brown of Abilene, Texas, Genia Weitz of McAlester, Okla., Tami and Brian Masters of Grapevine, Texas, Melissa and Justin Byrum of Oklahoma City and Oliver Franklin and Martha Jane Franklin of Norman, Okla.; 13 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brett and Bradley McCormick of Fort Gibson, Ryan, Corbin, Micah and Dylan Brown, all of Tahlequah, Okla., Alyssa Brown of Baleen, Texas, Shenia, Alissa and Slade Weitz of McAlester, Okla., and Page and Monica Masters of Grapevine, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Bessie Hester Null, her husband, Henry, a son, Lynn, five sisters, Millie Sanders, Gracy Null, Mary Adams, Leona Null and Clara Lame and one brother, Alfred Null.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael, David and Ryan Brown, Mike and Brandon McCormick, Brian Masters and Justin Byrum.
Honorary pallbearers will be her sisters and brothers of Canadian Chapter No. 378 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Memorial contributions may be made to Canadian United Methodist Church Building Fund.
