POTTSVILLE — Charles Wayne Jones, 76, of Pottsville died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in his home. He was born April 29, 1926, in Pottsville. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a retired area manager from the Federal Government General Services Administration, and a member of Galla Creek Country Club and Mars Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Memorial service will be private. The body will be cremated under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Bob Jones of Sheridan and Randy Jones of Little Rock; a brother, Jack Jones of Pottsville; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Mars Hill Presbyterian Church or Arkansas Department of Health Hospice in Russellville.

Betty Miller
CENTRAL CITY — Betty Jane Miller, 76, of Central City died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Central City. She was born April 14, 1926, in Fort Smith. She was a retired first-grade teacher, a member of Audubon Society, the Sierra Club and the NEA and a Protestant.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Parks cemetery in Charleston.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; three daughters, Carol Foley and Jane Garcia, both of Fort Smith, and Ruth Adams of Atlanta; four sons, David Flatte of Pea Ridge, John Flatte of Conway, Russell Flatte of Staunton, Va., and Warren Flatte of Fort Smith; three stepdaughters, Sandra Miller Hayes of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Speer of Charleston and Lynn Bartholomew of Fredrecksburg, Va.; a stepson, A.E. “Tom” Milller of Charleston; a sister, Shirley Haggard of Fort Smith; 14 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Max, Robert and Britt Ulrich, Roma Lee Brittain, Ken Lawson and Fred Garcia.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to National Diabetes Foundation or the Audubon Society of America.

Dorothy Meeks
HOWE — Dorothy M. “Dottie” Meeks, 63, of Howe died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in her home. She was a member of Heavener Christian Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wister First Church of the Nazarene with burial at Ellis Chapel cemetery in Wister.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; a daughter, Shelley R. Meeks of Wister; her mother, Vera Duncan of Heavener; two sisters, Genevieve Wiles of Heavener and Carol Wright of Kansas City, Mo.; and three brothers, Lemuel Duncan of Meridan, Miss., Wilmer Duncan of LeFlore and Lex Duncan of San Antonio.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Joe Massey Jr.
MILWAUKEE — Joe Massey Jr., 42, of Milwaukee, formerly of Fort Smith, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a welder with Argo Industries and a member of Elvethel Baptist Church in Milwaukee.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial Tuesday at Graceland cemetery in Milwaukee under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; a son, Christopher Blunt of Milwaukee; a stepson, Marcell Shepard Sr. of Milwaukee; his parents, Constance Massey of Fort Smith and Joe Massey of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Deborah Seals of Fort Worth, Texas, Sharon Massey of Pocola and Olivia Massey of Fort Smith; two brothers, Steve and Joey, both of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Wood, William Little, Marcell Shepard, Darrell Fletcher, Joe Bunch and Alvin Green.

Joe Howard
STIGLER — Joe Howard, 53, of Stigler died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003. He graduated from Stigler High School Class of 1968, attended EOSC in Wilburton, served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was employed at Whirlpool.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastwood Assembly of God with burial at Garland cemetery in Stigler under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Amanda Drewry of Garland, Okla. and Monica Cantrell of Stigler; his mother, Berniece Howard of Garland, Okla., his father, Raymond Akins of Cowlington, Okla.; a brother, Larry Howard of Spiro; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Leo Perry, Neal Prentice, Bill Ashing, John Grant, Danny Yates and Keldin Howard.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Marvin Briley
Marvin C. Briley, 83, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific, retired after 26 years as route salesman for Acee Milk Co., worked for five years for Yeager Hardware andattended Van Buren First Assembly of God. He was the widower of Wanda Testerman Briley.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren with full military honors.
He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Briley of Charleston, W.Va., Mary Shakleford and Judy Scott, both of Van Buren; two sons, Johnny Ragsdale of Van Buren and Larry Briley of Greenwood; three sisters, Faye Alice Brewer of Van Buren, Mary Watkins of Uniontown and Margarete Steely of Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers wil be Johnny Jack, David Symonds, Duane Dyer, Duane Chadwick, Paul and Dale Brown.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bertha Jordan
MULBERRY — Bertha Mae Jordan, 94, of Mulberry died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Springdale. She was born Nov. 9, 1908, in Pleasant View. She was retired from general merchandising retailing, a member of Main Street Missionary Baptist Church in Mulberry, the Civic Club, PTA and Pleasant View Friendly Neighbors Club, all of Mulberry.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Main Street Missionary Baptist Church in Mulberry with burial at New cemetery in Mulberry.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jordan of Richardson, Texas, and Jackie Holiman of Springdale; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Randy and Brett Holiman, Bobby Crocker, Al and Ronnie Adams.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pleasant View Friendly Neighbors Club.
The body may be viewed Saturday only from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 610 E. Emma, Springdale, AR 72765.

Arthur Painter
MOUNTAINBURG — Arthur Ray Painter, 72, of Mountainburg died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Springdale. He was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Kress, Texas. He was a diesel mechanic for Red Deer Construction Co., an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Masonic Lodge in Moab, Utah No. 30, Fort Smith 32 degree Shriner.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Bassham-Sims cemetery in Mountainburg.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two daughters, Lori Sims of Mountainburg and Pat Smith of Fort Smith; a son, Larry Johnson of Seattle; a brother, Ronnie Painter of Wallings, Ky.; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kaare, Kelly, Michael and Bobby West, Time Wilkinson and Chad Peaks.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Leona Crumb
SPIRO — Leona Crumb, 92, of Spiro died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and of the Pentecostal faith. She was the widow of Lyman Crumb.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at New Hope cemetery in Spiro.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Helen Terry of Spiro; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Elmer “Red” Smith
Elmer “Red” Smith, 78, of Fort Smith passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was the retired owner of Fort Smith Fork Lift, a member of Faith Baptist Church in Jenny Lind and the Jenny Lind Lodge No. 503 F&AM.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Faith Baptist Church in Jenny Lind with interment and Masonic Rites at Lovelace cemetery in Witcherville under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Smith of the home; two daughters, Carole Gunn of Fort Smith and Karen Smith of Oklahoma City; five sons, Raymond Smith and his wife, Lori of Liberty, Mo., Troy Smith and wife, Becky of Greenwood, Phillip Smith of Vesta, Bill Fithian and his wife, Traci of Arlington, Texas, and Kim Fithian of Bedford, Texas; four sisters, Dorothy Phillips of Howard Hill, Inis Taylor of Jenny Lind, Merle Kerr of Howard Hill and Margaret Cook of Bear Hollow; four brothers, Al Smith of Huntington, Dutch Smith of Greenwood, Jim Smith of Fort Smith and Al Smith of Huntington; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Carl Nichols, Owen, Darrell, Kenny and Barry Smith and Daniel Taylor.

Jimmy Clayborn
MANSFIELD — Jimmy Clayborn, 57, of Mansfield died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a construction manager for AOG and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Assembly of God with burial at Huntington City cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Robbin Heidelberg of Natural Dam; three stepdaughters, Bettina Brown of Van Buren, Dena Champion of Paris and Angela Ward of Huntington; a stepson, Bruce Yandell of Waldron; his mother, Ruby Clayborn of Rudy; five sisters, Connie Bernier of Rudy, Bonnie Knick and Donnie Bradley, both of Clarksville, Geneva Carlton of Fayetteville and Ora Lou Aichele of Charleston; three brothers, Fred Clayborn of Russellville, Tommy and Danny Clayborn, both of Clarksville; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Wallace, Lester Ford, Johnny Wells, Larry Dake, Travis Walton and Tony Sharp.

Noland H. Bobbitt
The Rev. Noland H. Bobbitt, 92, of Greenwood died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a retired Baptist minister, having pastored churches in Boron, Calif., Milltown, Pinelog and Greenwood. He was a member of Greenwood Free Will Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason a member of Milltown Masonic Lodge, F&AM. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Ray and Buford Bobbitt.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Baptist Church in Jenny Lind with burial at Liberty cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora Bobbitt of the home; four daughters, Peggy Orr of Alma, Dena Van Huss and Linda Beal, both of Van Buren and Erma Laws of Santa Cruz, Calif.; three sons, L.D. Bobbitt of Saugus, Calif., Steven Bobbitt of Greenwood and Michael Hall of Hartford; a sister, Helen Bectol of Fort Smith; a brother, Bryan Bobbitt of Tulsa; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Jeffords, Wendell, R.B., Randy and Gary Bobbitt and Theral Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Hall and Steven Curtis Bobbitt.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Gene Fields
Gene Fields, 76, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003. He was a World War II veteran with Company F, 187th Glider Infantry with the Army. He was a Fort Smith firefighter for 36 years with the rank of battalion chief.
He is survived by five natural children, three daughters, Cathie Pendleton, Robyn Stafford and Kim Garner, all of Fort Smith; two sons, Ron Fields of Alexandria, Va., and Terry Fields of Altus; two adopted children, Chris and Scott, and a cousin, Jewel Goodwin of Riblake, Wis.; 10 grandchildren, Greg, Brent and Ashley Moser, Daniel Garner, Brian Fields and Traci Lewellen, Kelly Berreckman, Kristan Stafford, Adam Fields and Rachel Pedraza; and five great-grandchildren, Brittney and Joshua Moser, Ezra Pedraza, Darynne Dahlem and Autumn Berreckman.
He was buried at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith; his family honored his wishes by having no services.

Lois Geneva Koontz
Lois Geneva Koontz, 81, of Charleston died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Charleston. She was born July 20, 1921, in Everton, to Silas Alvis Lewis Sr. and Lois Bessie Shults. She was a homemaker and a member of North Side Baptist Church in Charleston. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry R. Koontz.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Garden of Memories cemetery in Charleston with the Rev. Elton Pennington officiating.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Wayland Koontz of Charleston; a daughter, June Harrower of Charleston; a son, David Koontz of Charleston; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Terry Harrower, Randy Koontz, Chris Whitney, Roy Lee Taylor, David Bowler, Danny Yoakum and Greg Newhart.
The family will visit with friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
