CLARKSVILLE — Kevin Dwayne Roper, 36, of Clarksville died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Clarksville. He was born July 8, 1966, in Ozark. He was a graduate of Scranton High School and a truck driver for Kenny Milam Logging.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Twin Oaks Baptist Church with burial at Wares Chapel cemetery in Scranton under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral home of Clarksville.
He is survived by a daughter, Tashenna Roper of Russellville; his parents, Jerry and Mary Roper of Clarksville and Sue and Larry Pederson of Clarksville; a sister, Denise Ralph of Clarksville; and a brother, James Roper of Clarksville.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hunter Sullins
FAYETTEVILLE — Hunter Dean Sullins, infant son of Jesse Sullins and Renee Gable of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Fayetteville. He was born Feb. 13, 2003, in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Beard’s Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville with burial at Wesley cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Chandler Gable of Fayetteville; paternal grandparents, Stanley and Cindy Sullins of Fayetteville; maternal grandfather, Dennis Christison and Althea Gay of Van Buren; maternal grandmother, Jane and David Nolan of Missouri; great-grandparents, Ollie Sullins of Fayetteville, Barbara Tillotson of Mountain Home, Jim Ward of Lavaca and Roma Ross of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Rick Sullins and Curtis Reinhardt.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Vernon Smith
ROLAND — Vernon S.L. Smith, 85, of Roland died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in McAlester, Okla. He was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Okemah, Okla. He was a non-denominational minister for 26 years, a Mason Lodge No. 6 in Van Buren and a member of DAV. He was the widower of Irene Smith.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with a 2:30 p.m. graveside service at Okemah, Okla.
The body may be viewed beginning at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jack Willis
BOONEVILLE — Jack Willis, 85, of Booneville died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Booneville. He was a veteran of World War II, the former owner of Booneville Lumber and Supply and a member of First Baptist Church in Booneville. He was the widower of Gladys Willis.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Roberts Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Booneville with burial at Oak Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gordon Apple, Gene Remy, Keith Olsen, Joe Bull, Bub Curry and H.B. Griffey.

Bruce Driggs
UNIONTOWN — Bruce W. Driggs, 48, of Uniontown died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a veteran of the Marines and a member of Uniontown Assembly of God.
The body will be cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; five daughters, Tabitha Lopez and Rachel Driggs, both of Yucca Valley, Calif., Katherine Brown of South Dakota, Nicole Johnson of Van Buren and Marsha Bates of Indiana; three sons, Patrick Driggs of Fayetteville, Robert and Andrew Driggs, both of Van Buren; his step-mother, Cheryl Driggs of Summers; six sisters, Patty Spray, Wanda Waggoner, Cindy Hatcher and Lori Driggs, all of Idaho, Toni Robinson of California and Torie Driggs of Lincoln; 10 brothers, Donny and Jim Driggs, both of California, Tony Driggs of Summers, Gregg, Kevin and John Driggs, all of Oregon, Kenny, Bucky, Kelly and Jimmy Driggs, all of Idaho; and 13 grandchildren.
Esther F. Tamm, born Nov. 8, 1912, in Chicago, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Atlanta. Mrs. Tamm was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Chicago at the young age of 16. After graduating, Mrs. Tamm married Emil Tamm and raised two daughters and a son. She spent a great deal of her life helping people, teaching French to high school students, and assisting people with tax preparation in Fort Smith. She took great pride in being a grandmother, hearing about her daughter Judy’s work with animals and helping her son, Sidney, with his scientific articles. Esther won many tennis championships in Illinois and Indiana. In 1996, she moved to Atlanta where she continued her avid interest in tennis and helping others, young and old. Over the past years, she enjoyed helping her daughter Marti write two books, particularly one about her relationship as a 90 year-old woman with her beloved cocker spaniel, Noelle. Mrs. Tamm is survived by two daughters, Judith Tamm of Tulsa and Marti Tamm Loring of Atlanta; a son, Dr. Sidney L. Tamm and his wife, Signhild M. Tamm of Boston; and grandchildren, Peter Tamm and Ingrid Tamm Grudin of Boston. Arrangements are by H.M. Patterson & Son Inc. of Atlanta.

Joshua Taylor Arakelian
Joshua Taylor Arakelian, age 6, of Morris Township, N.J., died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, in his home after a two year battle with Leukemia. He was a student at Hillcrest School and a member of United Methodist Church.
A memorial service was held at United Methodist Church in Morristown, March 22, 2003.
He is survived by his parents, Allison Welk Arakelian and Richard Arakelian; two sisters, Hailey and Danielle; a brother, Alexander; his grandparents, Jack and Jane Leding of Fort Smith, Lucy Arakelian of Hawthorne, N.J., and Bob Welk of Martinez, Ga. and maternal great-grandmother, Sadie Allen of Shoreham By Sea, Sussex, England; also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Arkie Arakelian.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Good Neighbor Fund, Valerie Fund Children’s Centre at Morristown Memorial Hospital, 100 Madison Ave., Morristown, NJ 07960.

Thurl Ward
Thurl Ward, 93, of Greenwood died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Sparks Regional Medical Center. He was born April 8, 1909, in Carland, the son of John and Estella Ward.
A longtime resident of Mansfield, he was a retired cattleman and former co-owner of Mansfield Hardware. He served on the Poteau River District Soil Conservation board from 1961 to 1987. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 where he served as deacon for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; a son, John of Greenwood; a brother, Seaman of Bakersfield, Calif.; three grandchildren, John Daxton of Greenwood, Capt. Courtney Finkbeiner of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sgt. Blair Ward of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 with interment at Pleasant Grove No. 2 cemetery in Abbott under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.
Pallbearers will be Elmer Quick, Vanis Sigman, Jack Livingston, Butch Butcher and Eddie and Donnie Ward.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
There will be lunch at the church for family and friends after the funeral.

Elmer E. “Gino” Smallen
Elmer E. “Gino” Smallen, 51, of Muldrow died Sunday, March 23, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a welder for Whirlpool for 20 years, served in the Marine Corps and was a Baptist.
Graveside memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie of the home; two daughters, Gina Louise and Kaylah Rayne Smallen, both of Muldrow; two sons, Charles Eugene Smallen of Muldrow and Shawn Timothy Smallen of Billings, Mont.; his mother, Ruby Masterson of Muldrow; two sisters; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Sarah Vaughn of Muldrow; four brothers; and seven grandchildren, Destiny, Dillon and David Smallen of Muldrow, Chase Hughes of Greenwood, Shawn Smallen II of Fort Smith and Jacob and Benjamin Smallen of Billings, Mont.

Clara Fay Bennett
Clara Fay Bennett passed away Wednesday, March, 26, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born Feb. 11, 1906, in Alpha, to Edward and Susan Woodford. Alpha was located in central Yell County near what is now Centerton. As a teenager she lost both of her parents within a few months of each other. She raised three younger brothers and sisters while finishing high school and attending Arkansas Tech in Russellville. She graduated at Tech with a teaching certificate. The nickname many family members called her was “Tech.”
Clara had four brothers, Edward Woodford Jr., Benjamin Franklin Woodford, William Irving Woodford and Donald Ross Woodford and two sisters, Elizabeth Mary Burns and Eleanor Ruth Hunt, all of who preceded her in death.
She married A.C. Bennett on Dec. 23, 1931. They have three children, Thomas C. of Bella Vista, Samuel E. of Tulsa and Benjamin I. Bennett of Fort Smith. Her husband preceded her in death in 1976.
She was an active person all of her life, including a stint of building glider airplanes for the armed forces during World War II. She worked at the factory located at the present commercial airport of Fort Smith.
Clara was an active member of St. Paul Methodist Church and was recognized as a “Pillar of the Church” in a special ceremony March 17, 1971, and served as a member of the original building committee of the current sanctuary. As a longtime Sunday school teacher of the Pathfinders class, she would repeat her class at Methodist Village on many Sunday afternoons. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was fond of the Village and after living with Tom for 18 years, she requested to move back to Methodist Village and to her home in Fort Smith. We reluctantly moved her back in 1997, where she happily remained until March 2001. She moved to Fort Smith Health and Rehabilitation Center at that time to receive the extended care that one of age needed.
Grandmother Bennett has 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She took great pride in the accomplishments of all of her family and shared her rich encouragement with all who sought her advice and ideas. She had some excellent ideas about this great country we live in and reveled in the progress that it made during her lifetime. He letters to the editor were published in Houston, Denver and Oklahoma City newspapers. She had articles published by Ann Landers and Heloise. Without bragging, she often told us that she had left her indelible mark on the world, and it is so true. No person on earth was neither more caring nor more generous than Clara.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial at Roselawn cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Harold Morris, Richard Houge, Robert Vowell, Larry Corkern, Bill McCain and Jeff Morris.

John Webb
DALLAS — John Neuman Webb, 78, of Dallas, formerly of Hochatown, Okla., died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Dallas. He was born June 9, 1924, in Nashville. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, retired as regional personnel director for General Services Administration after 37 years, conducted personnel training courses for 20 years, serving with the federal government 57 years.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hochatown Union Church with burial at Hochatown cemetery in Hochatown, Okla., under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by a son, John Webb Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Wanda Riddle of Mena and Melba Benefield of Watson, Okla.; three brothers, Donald and Ralph Webb, both of Watson, Okla., and Alvie Webb of Muldrow; and a former wife, Marian Lewis of Wichita Falls, Texas.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Finis Miller
KIEFER, Okla. — Finis “Booger Red” “Sonny” Miller, 74, of Kiefer, Okla., died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Tulsa.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Blackgum Baptist Church with burial at Garden of Memories in Vian under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Vian.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Alieta Grunden of Rockport, Texas, Carolyn Nichols of Mounds, Okla., and Joann Baker of Morris, Okla.; a son, Finis Miller Jr. of Rose, Okla.; a sister, Eldee Yahola of Vian; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Earnest Brumley, Bubba and Michael Miller, Lance and Roger Baker, Raymond Yahola and Mike Ashley.

Barry Pyron
CLARKSVILLE — Barry Wayne Pyron, 52, of Clarksville died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Clarksville. He was born Sept. 13, 1950, in Clarksville. He was a graduate of Clarksville High School and attended College of the Ozarks and R.G. Le Turneau College in Longview, Texas, a Navy veteran of the Vietname War, a truck driver and a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Liberty Hill cemetery in Hunt under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by two sons, Gregory Pyron of Keller, Texas, and Jason Pyron of Euless, Texas; his parents, Wayne and Bonnie Pyron of Clarksville; and two grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clifton Edge
HEAVENER — Clifton LeRoy Edge, 86, of Heavener died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a World War II veteran, retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad, a member of United Transportation Union and First Baptist Church in Heavener.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with burial at Memorial Park in Heavener.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Beverly Lacefield of Fort Smith; a son, Roy Edge of Pocola; a sister, Mildred Hayes of Heavener; a brother, Dr. Jodie Edge of Norman, Okla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

WALDRON — Terry Lee Houston, 48, of Waldron died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in his home. He was a Navy veteran and a member Winfield Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Winfield Baptist Church with burial at Pearson cemetery near Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by a son, Ian Houston of Oak Creek, Colo.; his parents, Nova and Elva Houston of Waldron; four sisters, Kathy Howard, Judy Piles and Nancy Hunt, all of Waldron, and Sammie Simons of Houston; and four brothers, Don Houston of Bowling Green, Ky., Scotty Houston of Salinas, Calif., Jimmy and David Houston, both of Waldron.
Pallbearers will be Danny, Jarrod and Mike Houston, Jason Piles, Darrell Holt and Joe Peterson.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
