ROCKY — Effie LaVaughn “Von” Lewis, 71, of Rocky died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in her home. She was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Dallas. She was a homemaker.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rocky cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Home Service of Mena.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara McCleskey of Mena; two sons, Harland Lewis of Dallas and Billy Fulton of Mena; her mother, Minnie Stovall of Mena; three brothers, V. Leon Amick of Cove, Phillip Stovall of El Campo, Texas, and Floyd Stovall of Lancaster, Texas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Silas Young Sr.
Silas Eugene Young Sr., 80, of Van Buren died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in his home. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was the widower of Virginia Young.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandy Armstrong of Cabot; three sons, Silas Young Jr. of Fort Smith, Michael Young of Winter Haven, Fla., and Robert Young of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Pentecostal Church, 804 Pointer Trail in Van Buren.

Odis Hayes
STIGLER — Odis N. Hayes, 83, of Stigler died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in his home. He was an Army veteran and was a P.O.W in the Philippine Island Campaign and a member of Main Street Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Main Street Baptist Church with burial at Antioch cemetery in Stigler under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Lavern; a daughter, Glenda Layman of Eufaula, Okla.; a son, Joe Hayes of Arkansas City Kan.; a sister, Barbara Hayes of Tulsa; three brothers, Lloyd Hayes of Longtown, Okla., L.V. Hayes of Fort Smith and J.D. Hayes of Grove, Okla.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be the VFW Post No. 4446.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

Paul Powers
MULDROW — Paul Edward Powers, 62, of Muldrow died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Jan. 29, 1941. He was a retired cabinet builder and finish carpenter and a minister of Pentecostal faith.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Shady Point cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Athena LaPorte of Sand Springs, Okla., Rhonda Moore of Alma and Robin Breshears of Van Buren; four sons, Byron Powers of Owasso, Okla., Vance Powers of Muldrow, John Powers of Sapulpa, Okla., and Ed Blauvelt of Dyer, Okla.; three sisters, Mary Wilson of Fort Smith, Karen Johnson of Peoria, Ill., and Teresa Puckett of Booneville; two brothers, Henry Powers of Fort Smith and Billy Powers of Houston; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joe and Frankie Solomon, Alan McDaniel, Rick Hall, Vernon Phillips and Gerald Fouts.

Jack Young
Y-CITY — Jack William Young, 75, of Y-City died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in his home. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical Co., a veteran of World War II and attended Chant Pentecostal Church.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Chant Pentecostal Church with burial at Chant cemetery in Y-City under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, Kenneth Young of Red Oak, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Smokey Kimbrough of Greenwood; two stepsons, Duke Kennedy of Alvin, Texas, and John Kennedy of Jena, La.; a sister, Maxine Huddleston of Cauthron; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joshua and John Kennedy, Jeffery and Kevin Brown, and Rudy Hess.

Alvie Davis
QUINTON, Okla. — Alvie Davis, 83, of Quinton died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Tulsa. He was the widower of Marie Davis.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Brooken cemetery in Brooken, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; four daughters, Janie Falcon, Robbie Fry and Annette Reynolds, all of Tulsa, and Peggy King of Bella Vista; two sons, James Davis of Tulsa and Brian Davis of Eufaula, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Linda Ary of Longtown, Okla.; two brothers, Barney Davis of Hoyt, Okla., and R.T. Davis of Quinton; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Fry, Darrell Reynolds, James Pitts Jr., Jim Rutledge, Robert Davis and Darrell Adcock.

Lois Marvin
Lois Marvin, 91, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in a local nursing home. She was a member of Fort Smith First United Methodist Church and was retired from Hunt’s Department Store. She was the widow of Virgil Marvin.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at New cemetery in Mulberry.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Marvin of Pocola and Horace Marvin of Fort Smith; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lucy Crawley
ROLAND — Lucy Mondier Crawley, 95, of Roland died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Roland. She was born Feb. 4, 1908, in Paw Paw Community. She was a homemaker, a member of Church of Christ in Roland and the widow of Leon Mondier and Ed Crawley.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Church of Christ in Roland with burial at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Roland.
She is survived by five stepgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Herbert, Larry and Mike Henson, Danny Turner, Harold Slate and Kenneth Crawley.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

Willodean Smith
GANS — Willodean Smith, 61, of Gans died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Sallisaw. She was born May 7, 1941, in Pindall. She was a homemaker, attended Gans Bible Church and the widow of Charlie Smith.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glen Cole cemetery in Pindall under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Byrd and Ruthie Araujo, both of Gans; two sons, Charles Smith of Jefferson City, Mo., and Jeff Mann of Gans; and 13 grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Millar Jr.
William “Sonny” Millar Jr., 72, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Queens, N.Y. He was director of advertising, vice president for Winston-Tire Company in Burbank, Calif., and a member of Harvest Time Tabernacle.
Memorial service will be 5 p.m. today at 509 Pecan Street in Muldrow. The body was cremated under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; three daughters, Barbara Woodring of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Bette Grove of Temecula, Calif., and Bonnie Keenan of Grapevine, Texas; two sons, Billy Millar of Chandler, Ariz., and Robert Millar of Sherwood; three stepdaughters, Kathy Keith of Muldrow, Melinda Detosse of Fort Smith and Janice Holmes of Renton, Wash.; a sister, Caryl Harvey of Irvine, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Time Tabernacle, 3100 Briar Cliff Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72908.

Steven Boyd
SALLISAW — Steven Bradley Boyd, 27, of Sallisaw died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Sallisaw.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Eastside Baptist Church in Sallisaw with burial at Garden of Memories in Vian under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by a son, Steven R. Boyd of Vian; his parents, Steve and Cathy Boyd of Spiro and Angela and Billy Stonebarger of Sallisaw; two sisters, Shawna Arnold of Muldrow and Katy Boyd of Spiro; five stepsisters, Lacey Armer of Spiro, Cindy Tyree of Sallisaw, Kristie Stonebarger of Vian, Tracey Kirk of Sperry, Okla., and Brandy Stonebarger of Vian; three stepbrothers, Billy Cole of Okay, Okla., William Charles II of Korea and Jerome Stonebarger of Covington, Okla.; his grandparents, Steven and Velma Boyd and Merle and Pat Martin, all of Sallisaw, and stepgrandfather, Vaughn Taylor of California.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Caldwell, Myron Osburn, Billy MacWhite, Donnie Morris, Chantz McCreaty and Gary Brooks and Bill and Billy Holmes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sequoyah County Sheriffs Department.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Joyce Bowers
SPIRO — Joyce Marie Dennis Bowers, 61, of Spiro died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a lifetime member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 4884 in Spiro and was a charter member.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by her husband, Alva; four daughters, Tina Sellers of Oklahoma City, Marilyn Scrivener of Keota, Kim Claunts of Eucha, Okla., and Liz Cole of Sapulpa, Okla.; a son, Michael Bowers of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Betty Ragan of Lavaca and Cheryl Bryant of Newalla, Okla.; six brothers, Jerry, Billy, Bobby and Harry Dennis, all of Oklahoma City, Gene Thompson of Midwest City and Bill Thompson of Palatka, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be veterans of VFW Post No. 4884.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Frank Elmore
Frank Douglas Elmore, 82, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was retired from the Army after serving in World War II, the Korean and the Vietnam Wars, a member of VFW, the First Free Will Baptist Church and was a Mason.
No formal services will be held. Cremation will be under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Herod of Fort Smith; a son, William Elmore of Siloam Springs; and five grandchildren.

Herbert Perkins
POCOLA — Herbert “Pop” Perkins, 88, of Pocola died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was retired from Ballman Cummings Furniture Company and an Army veteran of World War II. He was the widower of Jannie Perkins.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Mountain View cemetery in Hackett.
He is survived by a daughter, Eila Bullard of Pocola; a son, Clifford Perkins of Bonanza; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eddie, Terry, Anthony and James McCutcheon Jr. and Charlie and Denver Perkins.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jack Walters
SPIRO — Jack Walters, 81, of Spiro, formerly of Haskell, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Spiro.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at Memorial City cemetery in Haskell.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; a daughter, Linda Bell of Eufaula, Okla.; a son, Ed Carpenter of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
