Opal Gibbs Richmond
Opal Gibbs Richmond, 88, of Van Buren departed this earthly life to join her heavenly father on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Van Buren. She was an avid quilter and loved to create crocheted afghans for her family and friends.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith. Eulogy will be given by Jackie Brown, her grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe S. Richmond; a daughter, Barbara June Russell and one grandson, Bobby E. Brown.
She is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Jo Brown of Van Buren and Mary Kaye Dutton of Rudy; a son, Jimmy Lee Richmond of Evansville; a sister, Betty Lou Cox of Gentry; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Glen Van Dagriff, Stevie Joe Dufresne, Vestal Woods, Rickey Joe Reichert, George Brown and Charles Dutton.

Amy Ruth Inman
Amy Ruth Inman, 58, of Scranton died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Scranton and died of natural causes. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Crossroads. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Charles Cravens, and a sister, Nell Cravens.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Paris with burial at Ellsworth cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by her husband, Bud Inman of Scranton; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ronnie Pack of Atkins; a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Teresa Inman of Scranton; her mother, Eula Mae Cravens of Scranton; two sisters, Nenah Jean Fulmer and Susan Houser, both of Scranton; and four grandchildren, Garrett and Victoria Pack and Toby and Joni Inman.
Pallbearers will be Mark and Charles Fulmer, Ron Lee, T.J. Brown, Jerry Stephens and Danny Porter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Louie Fox, Troy Houser, Danny Greenshaw and Wayne Gray.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Clarence Ray Peters
Clarence Ray Peters, 63, of Fort Smith died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a retired mechanic for Southern Cement Transport and a veteran of the Army Reserve.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated and there will be a burial at a later date.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia and husband Tom of Fort Smith; a son, Clarence and wife Mindy Peters of Ashdown; a brother, Roy Peters of Pendleton, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Christopher Latimer, Alexandra and Nathanial Peters.

Dorothy Bradney Moore
Dorothy Bradney Moore, 82, of Fort Smith died Feb. 22, 2003, in Fort Smith. Formerly Dorothy Bradney, she was beloved mother of Constance Durkin, grandmother of Christopher Durkin, both of Philadelphia; aunt to Idris Rhea Traylor of Lubbock, Texas, Lisa McElroy, Brad Brown, Betsy Farris, Mary Jean Black, Cindy Shaw, Anne Hall and Bill Bradney of Fort Smith, Mary Shannon Fikes of Pine Bluff, Rebecca Brambl of Tulsa, Theresa Lowrimore of South Lake, Texas, Patty Grubbs of Doyelstown, Pa., and Dan Bradney of Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Moore; her parents, Ollie and Wilson Shannon Bradney; siblings, Billie Brown, Gwendolyn Rothrum, Mary Sanders, Betsy Traylor Ellsworth, June Bradney, Wilson Shannon “Buddy” Bradney and Connie Freeman in sacred peace. She was a retired bookkeeper for Therma Tru. Pallbearers will be Chris Durkin, Brad Brown, Andy Brown, Gary Black, Dan Brambl, Steve Lowrimore, Lawrence Fikes and David W. McElroy. Graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Oak cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 8006, Fort Smith, AR 72902. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

Edith Brown
BOONEVILLE — Edith Viola Brown, 85, of Booneville died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Booneville. She was the original co-owner of the Brownsville Store near Booneville and a member of Walnut Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Price Brown.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Booneville with burial at Oak Hill cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.
She is survived by two sisters, Wanda Sallgoity of West Covina, Calif., and Maxine Rases of Taft, Calif.
Pallbearers will be Paul Williams, Larry Sanders, Alvin Gartman, Gus Young, Bennie Barnard, Scott Danekas and Harry Napier.

Marie Pearson
Marie E. Pearson, 88, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Van Buren. She was a retired owner and operator of Marie Pearson Homes in Pine Island, Minn.
A memorial service to be held at a later date at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pine Island, Minn. Cremains will interred at Zumbota cemetery in Zumbota, Minn. Local arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Don; three daughters, Joanne Rhoades of Albuquerque, N.M., Koryl Magnuson of Red Wing, Minn., and Kris Hammel of Rochester, N.Y.; a sister, Adeline Stroh of Petaluma, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Thelma Stevenson
MENA — Thelma J. Stevenson, 89, of Mena died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Mena. She was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Vandervoort. She was a school teacher and a member of First United Methodist Church in Mena. She was the widow of J.B. Stevenson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Orvin Foster, Don Craig, Ben House, Buck Cureton, Sam Varner and John Thornton.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Mena or charity of donor’s choice.

Louis Sorenson
SALLISAW — Louis Benjamin Sorenson, 68, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Sallisaw. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist faith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Akins cemetery in Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Helen Gann of Muldrow; two sons, Billy Sorenson of Sallisaw and Jackie Sorenson of Muldrow; two brothers, Kenneth Sorenson of Bristow, Okla., and Bill Sorenson of Ozark; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kelly and Louis Cody, Charlie Edmons, Jimmy Hoover, Allan Sizemore and Lee Thornell.
The body may be viewed 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Winnie Pottridge
Winnie Adrene Pottridge, 89, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Greenwood. She was a cook for Methodist Nursing Home for 13 1/2 years.
Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at White Bluff cemetery in Bonanza under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith.
She is survived by three sons, Milburn Ward of Burbank, Calif., Dewayne Ward of Huntington and Bill Ward of Fort Smith; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mable Chance
SPIRO — Mable Chance, 79, of Spiro died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in Pocola. She was the widow of Collin Chance.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at New Hope cemetery in Spiro under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by three sons, Jerry Chance of Alma, Clayton Chance of Spiro and David Chance of Tulsa; two sisters, Betty Skelton of Spiro and Mary Pennington of Arizona; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Henry Harp
Henry C. Harp, 88, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in a local nursing home. He was born March 19, 1914, in Natural Dam. He was a factory worker and a reverend in the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hall cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; a daughter, Barbara Atwell of Rudy; two sons, Charles Harp of the home and Farris Harp of Van Buren; a brother, Jim Harp of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mattie French
MENA — Mattie “Winnie” Tallant French, 77, of Mena died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in her home. She was born July 26, 1925, in Amity. She was a homemaker, of the Pentecostal faith, a volunteer at the Salvation Army and sewed costumes for the Ouachita Little Theater.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Service Memorial Chapel in Mena with burial at Jones cemetery in Amity.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; five daughters, Delois Willis of Vandervoort, Barbara Berrisford of St. Louis, Ann Hughes of Columbus, Ohio, Ellen Belcher of Oden and Kathy Chamberlain of Mount Ida; four sons, James Buckley, Duane and Jason Tallant, all of Mena, and David Chote of Mount Pleasant, Texas; two sisters, Dura Tallant of DeQueen and Dorothy House of Amity; three brothers, Jesse, Clifton and LeRoy Partridge, all of Amity; 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Duane Tallant, Tim Buckley, Ricky Langley, Tony Willis, Josh Belcher and Chris Hordan.

Lois Kirkendoll
OZARK — Lois Kirkendoll, 94, of Ozark died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in Ozark. She was born Dec. 3, 1808, in Sulfur Springs. She was a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of Jethro Pentecostal Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Oak Ridge cemetery in Ozark.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

DeVaughn Black
ST. LOUIS — DeVaughn Black, 25, of St. Louis died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in St. Louis. He competed in football, basketball and track at Hazelwood West High School and played two years at the University of Missouri.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his parents, Napoleon and Virginia Black of St. Louis; a sister, LaShawn Black of Atlanta; and a brother, Eric of St. Louis.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.

Walter Saber
GREENWOOD — Walter R. Saber, 78, of Greenwood died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, in his home. He was retired from Civil Service, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of St. Sabina & Mary Catholic Church in Jenny Lind and a former member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Waldron.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Sabina & Mary Catholic Church in Jenny Lind under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; a daughter, Walda Rueb of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son, Terrence Saber of New Hampshire; a stepson, William Neenos of Phoenix; a sister, Pauline Hoyt of Arizona; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Paula Valdes
JENNY LIND — Paula Valdes, 56, of Jenny Lind died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was an LPN.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Salem cemetery in Cedarville.
She is survived by a daughter, Summer Nelms of Fort Smith; two sons, Scotty and Cary Nelms of Fort Smith; four sisters, Peggy Arnett of Fort Smith, Donna Mills of Otaha, Okla., Jackie Respess of Millbrook, Ala., and Lisa Adams of St. Matthews, S.C.; and two brothers, Floyd and Charles McGhee, both of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Robert, Johnny, Donald, Steven and Danny Carlile and John Mills.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
