Mary Agnes Smith

Marmaduke native

PARAGOULD -- Mary Agnes Smith, 75, of Paragould died Saturday, Feb. 19, at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Born at Marmaduke, she was a homemaker and a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Gregory Smith of Paragould; a brother, Robert Jordan of Paragould; and a sister, Betty Cole of Hayti.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Smith; her parents, O.M. and Annie Mary Jordan; and a brother.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Bob Morris, Bill Rowland, Les Ward, R.D. Bateman, Buford Adams, Bob Parks and Willis Robinson.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Violet Trixie Church

NEWPORT -- Violet Trixie Hillier Church, 71, of Newport died Sunday, Feb. 20, at Jonesboro.

Born in Bishops Falls, Newfoundland, Canada, she had worked as a caretaker for 20 years.

Survivors include a son, Rickie Church of West Plains, Mo.; a daughter, Vickie Morgan of Paragould; four brothers, Alex Hillier of Nova Scotia, Canada, Raymond Hillier of Alberta, Canada, Gary Hillier of Florida and Roy Hillier of Germany; five sisters, Marie Newhook of Newfoundland, Jean Harris and Norma Hawks, both of Freeport, Maine, Margaret Lanum of North Carolina and Geraldine Gummerson of Toronto; and five grandchildren, Dustin Church, Matthew Church, Travis Church, Chase Morgan and Rhiannon Morgan.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Jackson's Newport Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Sigman officiating.

Earnestine 'Tina' Gardner

JONESBORO -- Earnestine "Tina" Gardner, 48, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Feb. 22, at her residence.

Arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

JONESBORO -- Funeral services for Barbara R. Gilbert, 60, of Jonesboro, who died Sunday at her son's home here, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church of Clarksdale, Miss. Burial will follow Thursday in Biloxi National Cemetery at Biloxi, Miss., with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Members of the Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers.

Born at Northport, Ala., she lived several years in the Clarksdale-Cleveland, Miss., areas before moving to Jonesboro 18 months ago. She was a district manager for Cato Fashions in Mississippi and also owned Delta Christian Radio at Clarksdale. She was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Beta Sigma Phi sorority of Cleveland, the Clarksdale Chamber of Commerce, Clarksdale Optimist Club and the Clarksdale Business and Professional Women's organization.

Survivors include two sons, Tommy Rowe of Jonesboro and Walter Gray Gilbert of Clarksdale; two daughters, Cynthia Gilbert Bryant of Jonesboro and Patricia Ann Gilbert of Clarksdale; two brothers, Chuck Ramsey of California and Richard Ramsey of Alabama; one sister, Cathy Joanne Ramsey of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and five grandchildren, Marissa Rowe, Jay Rowe, Andrew Bryant, Carter Bryant and Baily Bryant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Uler Jenkins Gilbert; her parents, Leonard A. and Pearlie Mae Rollo Ramsey; and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today at the church. There will be no visitation in Jonesboro.

The family requests memorials be given to the ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabassas Hills, Calif., 91301-5104.

Nona Irene Guthrie

LAKE CITY -- Nona Irene Guthrie, 89, of Lake City, formerly of Caraway, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, at St. Bernard's Medical Center of Jonesboro.

Born at Petit Jean Mountain, she had been a resident of the Caraway area for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Caraway First Baptist Church.

Survivors include nine sons, Raymon D. Douglas of Benton Harbor, Mich., Charlie M. Douglas of Felton, Del., LeRoy Douglas of Manila, James Douglas and Floyd Douglas, both of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Ed Douglas of Fort Worth, Texas, Joe Douglas of Sherwood, Alvin Douglas of Caraway and Troy Douglas of Black Oak; a daughter, June Wise of Lockhart, Texas; several stepchildren; three sisters, Gertrude Monday of Hornersville, Mo., Louise Wade of Russellville and Edith Leach of West Valley City, Utah; 28 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Aubrey Morgan, John Douglas and Ollie Guthrie; one son, Doyle Morgan; one stepdaughter, Geneva Petty; one stepson, George Douglas; her parents, Claude and Nancy Evans Caudill; eight sisters; and four brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Howard Funeral Service of Manila, with the Revs. Ferrel Duffel and Joey Smithson officiating. Burial will follow in Caraway Cemetery.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John M. Hill

Retired accountant

MONETTE -- John M. Hill, 68, of Monette died Monday, Feb. 21, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He was a retired accountant for the Crane Co. and a veteran of the Vietnam War. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He lived most of his life in the Monette area and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sisters, Wanda Mays of Troy, Ill., and Jimmie Hout Wallace of Cherokee Village.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gregg Funeral Home of Monette, with the Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. The body will be cremated.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Merle Webb Holleman

HICKORY RIDGE -- Merle Webb Holleman, 64, of Hickory Ridge died Monday, Feb. 21, at White County Medical Center of Searcy.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James Holleman; seven sons, Wayne Holleman of Nashville, Tenn., Rick Holleman of Newport, Larry Holleman of McCrory, Michael Barnes of Newport, Charles Barnes of Bradford, Paul Barnes of Trumann and David Boyd of Newport; four daughters, Paula Allen and Wilma Canten, both of Paris, Tenn., Amy Noble of McCrory and Loretta Johnson of Hickory Ridge; three brothers, Kenneth Webb of Judsonia, Pat Webb and Dee Webb, both of California; 24 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home of McCrory with the Rev. Chris Bigness officiating. Burial will in Fakes Cemetery at McCrory.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grace Jochim

NEWPORT -- Grace Jochim, 83, of Newport died Monday, Feb. 21, at St. Bernard's Medical Center of Jonesboro.

She was retired from housekeeping at Newport Hospital and was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Newport.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Wilson of Newport; four grandchildren, Joseph Wilson of Tuckerman, Steven Wilson and April Wilson, both of Newport, and Aimee Cathey of Maumelle; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jochim, her parents and one brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Arnold Cemetery at Swifton under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Walker, Jason Cathey, Nicky Miller, Raymond Bradley, Todd Hutchinson and Bobby Wagner.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Margaret E. Keith

WARREN -- Pallbearers have been named for the funeral for Margaret E. Keith, 87, of Warren, formerly of Trumann and Marked Tree, scheduled for today at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Trumann.

Dr. Tad Rogers and the Rev. Johnny Jones will officiate, and burial will follow in Marked Tree Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.

Pallbearers will be Charles Knight, James Ruffin, David McDaniel, Ed Richardson, Bill Cook and Kelly Webb.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. today at the church.
