Harold Gene Brock, 60, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a retired self-employed electrician.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Sarah Toney of Appache Junction, Ariz.; and a sister, Marilyn Gray of St. Louis.

Jeannie Pinkerton
Jeannie Amos Pinkerton, 93, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 31, 2003, in a local hospital. She was born March 2, 1910, in Fort Smith. She was the former owner of Jean’s Beauty Shop and a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Liberty cemetery in Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin; a daughter, Sherry Cale of Van Buren; a sister, Vivian Vaughn of Fort Smith; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Elmo Mathews, Arch King, Mack Woody, Leroy Caselman, Mark Kesner and Glenn Nelson.

Barbara Cusick
YUKON, Okla. — Barbara Cusick, 63, of Yukon died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in her home. She was born March 7, 1940, in Fort Smith. She was a charter member of Knob Hill Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where she was active in preschool ministry, a member of Chisholm Heights Baptist Church in Mustang serving as children’s department director and was instrumental in establishing a mission church which is now Canadian Valley Baptist Church in Yukon, Okla. She was active in WMU.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Yukon with graveside services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coop Prairie cemetery in Mansfield.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; a daughter, Denise Chapman; a son, Stan Cusick; three sisters, Violet Martin, Mary Richmond and Kay Carter; and four grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Ministries, c/o Canadian Valley Baptist Church, Yukon, OK 73085.

Era Gray
QUINTON, Okla. — Era Mae Gray, 90, of Quinton, Okla., died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Quinton.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at West Liberty Baptist Church with burial at West Liberty cemetery in Enterprise under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Quinton, Okla.
She is survived by a sister, Lorene Eakle of Quinton, Okla.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth King, Yancy Etchison, Sherman Stockton, Jim Eakle, Doyle Wagnon and Bruce Wilson.

John McGraw
SALLISAW — John Allen McGraw, 64, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Muskogee, Okla. He was retired from McDonnell-Douglas in 1989, semi-retired from managing property, taught adult class at the Pentecostal Church of God, a elder and on the board of directors, was president of AARP, on the board of Outreach Center, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was a member of the gun crew who gave the 21 gun salute when Alaska became a state.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, John and Mark McGraw, both of Sallisaw; two sisters, Eunice Wilson of Dumas and Elizabeth Bazzaro of Dewitt; a brother, Arthur McGraw of Wright; and six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the People of Iraq.

Jesse Tash
Jesse A. Tash, infant son of John Lisa Tash of Van Buren, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in a local hospital.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Baxter cemetery in Kibler.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Treasia Tash of Alma and Janey Tash of the home; two brothers, John Tash of Van Buren and Jonlee Tash of the home; paternal grandparents, Treasia and Stanley Partain of Van Buren; maternal grandparents, Ricky and Janie Wallace of Mountainburg; and maternal great-grandmother, Pat Kosher of Alma.

Juan Ramirez
Juan Pablo Ramirez, 23, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was employed at Twin Rivers Foods.
Funeral will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his mother, Esperanza Ramirez of Fort Smith; and a brother, George Ramirez of Nevada.
The family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. Friday to noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Norman E. Lovett
Norman E. Lovett, 90, died Monday, March 31, 2003, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 28, 1912, in Rudy. He was a painting contractor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tina Ellis Lovett, his parents, W.G. and Ida Hamilton Lovett and two brothers, Clyde and his wife Deloris Halley Lovett and W.G. Lovett Jr.
He is survived by son, Norman D. Lovett and his wife, Norma of Fort Smith; two granddaughters, Dr. Lisa L. Steed and husband, Cecil of Charleston, S.C., and Jennifer S. Shinn and husband, David of North Little Rock; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Sarah Shinn, both of North Little Rock; one sister, Ruby Hallstead and her husband, Edward of Fort Smith; four nieces, three nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. today Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith with interment at Forest Park cemetery in Fort Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions may be made to Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4321 Jenny Lind Road, Fort Smith, Ark.

Wanda Moore Watts
Wanda Moore Watts, 80, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was born May 18, 1922, in Sebastian County. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School, Ouachita Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She served ten years as a missionary of the North American Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church and had been a Sunday school teacher and public school teacher in the area schools for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Moore and her husband, the Rev. Walter H. Watts.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Grand Avenue Baptist Church with burial at Woodlawn cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two sisters, Rosemary Looney and her husband, Afton of Charleston and Arlene O’Neal and her husband, George of Bella Vista; three brothers, Roger Neil Moore and his wife, Betty of Westerville, Ohio, W. Trueman Moore and his wife, Jane of Barling and Don Moore and his wife, Nita of Little Rock; a stepdaughter, Grace Fletcher and her husband, Bruce; two stepsons, Walter H. Watts Jr. and his wife, Sandy and Bob Watts and his wife, Sherry; six stepgrandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-niece and nephew.
Pallbearers will be nephews.

Charles Wayne Coble
Charles Wayne Coble, 77, of Van Buren died Monday, March 31, 2003, in a local nursing home. He was a Christian, a retired truck driver for ABF Freight Systems and a member of Van Buren First Baptist Church, the Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6 and the Cedar Masonic Lodge No. 762, was a Navy Seabee veteran of World War II having served in New Calidonia.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Coble of the home; a daughter, Donna Edwards of Van Buren; two sons, Ron Coble of Van Buren and Charles Coble of El Dorado; a granddaughter, Karen Coble of Van Buren and a grandson, Brad Coble of Van Buren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Coble, Erhard Schulze, Dr. Larry Englehoven, Allen Penrod, Jim Freeman and Michael O’Bryan.

Robert “Bob” Thorbjornson
Robert “Bob” Thorbjornson, 76, of Van Buren died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a retired truck driver for Yellow Freight Lines, a Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6 and a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 31. Mr. Thorbjornson was preceded in death by his wife, Irene.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Park cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jim Gregory of Van Buren; a son and daughter-in-law, Dicky and Marilyn Zellers of Fort Smith; a sister, Dorothy Mellinger of Cutbank, Mont.; a brother, Omar Thorbjornson of Quartz Site, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Jim Bob and Charley Gregory, both of Fort Smith, T.K. and Jennifer Zellers, both of Maumelle; two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Taylor Gregory, both of Fort Smith.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marcus Dale Whittington
Marcus Dale Whittington, 57, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 31, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Charleston United Methodist Church and a former resident of Bost Human Development Center in Fort Smith, where he worked in the Skill Center. He participated in the Special Olympics. He was born May 12, 1945, in Charleston to Paul Whittington and Vernice Vest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Whittington and Vernice Vest, and a brother, Lowell Whittington.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Charleston with burial at Lowes Creek cemetery north of Branch under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by a sister, Joyce Herrington of Apopka, Fla.; a brother, Paul Whittington of Charleston; two aunts, Violet Phillips of Fort Smith and Norma Vest of Ozark; an uncle, Loys Vest of Houston; six nieces and two nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Don Phillips, Danny Phillips, Ronnie, Randy and Terry Vest and Joe Whittington.

Esther F. Tamm
Esther F. Tamm, longtime Fort Smith resident, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Atlanta. She was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Chicago, and was a graduate of University of Chicago. In college she participated on several athletic teams. She was an active volunteer with League of Women Voters for many years, especially in the area of education. In the several cities in which she resided, she was a strong advocate for early childhood education in the French language. She taught French at St. Anne’s Academy in Fort Smith for several years and worked for H&R Block for two years as a tax preparer. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, and also the Alliance Francaise. An avid tennis player, she won tennis tournaments in Illinois and Indiana. She was a member of United Hebrew Congregation and its sisterhood in Fort Smith. Throughout her life, she took great pleasure in theater and opera. Mrs. Tamm was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Emil S. Tamm. She is survived by a son, Dr. Sidney L. Tamm of Boston; a daughter, Martha Tamm Loring of Atlanta and daughter, Judith Tamm of Tulsa; a daughter-in-law, Signhild Tamm; grandchildren, Ingrid Tamm Grudin and Peter Tamm, all of Boston. Mrs. Tamm will remembered for her great energy, persistence and determination.

Calvin Jerome Phillips
Calvin Jerome Phillips passed away at his home Thursday, March 27, 2003. He was born Feb. 10, 1976 to Angelia Phillips and Clyde Hitchye in Fort Smith.
Calvin graduated from Southside High School in 1995. Calvin was baptized into Christ at the age of 18 years on June 12, 1994, at the Ninth Street Church of Christ in Fort Smith. Calvin was special in many ways. He was able to bring joy to others, never complained and kept a smile on his face even in the worst of times. He never wanted to be viewed as a handicap, but always wanted to be thought of as being normal like everyone else.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Angelia Phillips of Fort Smith; his father, Clyde Hitchye of Tullahassee, Okla.; his grandmother, Jo Ann Phillips of San Diego; aunts and uncles, Wilmuth Phillips of San Diego, Norma Adams of Tullahassee, Okla., and Ella and Anthony Robinson, Constance Gaines, Marquita and William West, all of Fort Smith, and Patricia Scurry of Houston; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Oak cemetery under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Terence McElwee, Bryan Bray, Kendell Releford, Vincent Stevenson, Anthony Robinson and Chauncey Smith.
Viewing will be 11:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The Rev. Tommy Brooks, minister at the Ninth Street Church of Christ will be officiating minister.

Andrew Riley Sura
Andrew Riley Sura, 2 months, of Van Buren died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, in a local hospital.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with cremation to follow.
He is survived by his parents, Andrew and Michelle Sura of Van Buren; two sisters, Alexis Sura of the home and his twin sister, Jesse Sura of the home; his maternal grandparents, Bill and Mary Nunnery of Van Buren; paternal grandparents, Andrew and Jan Sura of California; and four great-grandparents.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
