Jack Berryman
Jack Berryman, 61, of Van Buren died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in Van Buren. He was an instructor for the Army and served during the Vietname War and retired. He received the Purple Heart in 1967 for services rendered. He was a member of the Catcher Freewill Baptist Church.
Graveside service with full 
military honors will be 1 p.m. today at the U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah of Van Buren; and two sisters, Barbara Cupp of Wyoming and Connie Swanson of Mulberry.
Gladys Oglesby
Gladys Oglesby, 93, of Van Buren, formerly of Hope, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, in Van Buren. She was a telephone operator, homemaker, and a pharmacy clerk, a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and recently attended the First Christian Church of Fort Smith. She was the widow of Orville Oglesby.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of First Christian Church, 3600 Free Ferry Road in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home of Hope.
She is survived by a son, Don Oglesby of Van Buren; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends and guest following the ceremony.

Jesse Brannam
Jesse D. Brannam, 79, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Oklahoma City. He was a retired Navy veteran, serving in the World War II and the Korean Wars, and was a retired salesman for Glidewell Distributing Co. after 25 years.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Dyer City cemetery Arbor with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva; two daughters, Gale Sneed of Moore and Danna Hibben of San Diego; two sons, Terry Brannam of San Diego and Michael Brannam of Seattle; three sisters, Thelma Wilkins of Glendora, Calif., Phyllis Howard of Hitchcock, Texas, and Sue Weatherbee of Riverside, Calif.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Linda Weston
ODEN — Linda Weston, 53, of Oden died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Hot Springs. She was born Jan. 11, 1950, in St. Louis. She was a certified nurse’s aide and a homemaker.
Graveside service was held Tuesday at Missy Ride cemetery in Oden under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by two daughters, Audrey Phelps of Oden and Christy Amason of Mena; a son, Douglas Kemp of Mountain View; a sister, Patricia Garner of Hot Springs; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Lyons, Kenneth Lamb, Joey Weston, Chris Amason and Andy and David Phelps.
Larry Ferguson
POTEAU — Larry Eugene Ferguson, 49, of Poteau died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, in Poteau. He was an auto mechanic and of the Baptist faith.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
He is survived by a sister, Linda Luman of Heavener; and a brother, Lonnie Donaldson of Virginia Beach, Va.
Dixie Wiles
PETERSBURG, Tenn. — Dixie Kay Higgins Wiles, 67, of Petersburg, Tenn., formerly of Heavener, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Tennessee. She was a retired nurse with Lincoln County School System and a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg, Tenn.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Loving Baptist Church with burial at Loving cemetery in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by her husband, Dan; two sons, Mike and Stephen Wiles, both of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Gary Higgins of Port Orchard, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
Marie Bartsch Owen
Marie Bartsch Owen, 87, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a retired secretary for the Farmers Insurance Group, and was of the Catholic faith.
Mass will be 10 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial at St. Benedict cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by three nieces, Josephine Geels of Fort Smith, Dolores Verkamp of Charleston and Lenora Mainard of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Tim, Kevin, Mark and John Verkamp, Jim Geels and Howard Bagby.
Richard “Rick” Bruce
Richard “Rick” Bruce, 51, of Fort Smith died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was an employee of the Whirlpool Corp., served in the Marine Corps and the Navy Seabees, was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and served both the Evans Boys Club and the church league baseball association as a coach.

Ronald Alen “Ronnie” Daws, 36, of Muldrow died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was born Jan. 12, 1967, in Fort Smith. He was an iron worker, a Protestant and a 1985 graduate of Arkoma High School.

SALLISAW — Jerry Max Richardson, 28, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003. in Sallisaw. He was born Dec. 6, 1974, in Fort Smith. He was a tug boat operator for Arkola Sand and Gravel and a Baptist.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Akins Baptist Church with burial at Akins cemetery northeast of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; a daughter, Britney of the home; a stepson, Zackary Rodgers of the home; his parents, Jerry and Charity Richardson of Sallisaw; maternal grandfather, Charles Fine of Sallisaw.
Pallbearers will be Jason Seimens, Joe Ziemba, Anthony Fine, Monte Davis, Rocky Blackburn and Sam Randolph.

STIGLER — Robert “Joker” Pugh, 76, of Stigler died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, in Muskogee, Okla. He was fire chief of Stigler Southside Fire Department, a maintenance worker for the City of Stigler, a farmer, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4446 of Stigler and he served in the Army.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; a son, James Pugh of Stigler; a sister, Gail Brown of Stigler; two brothers, Lester and Jerry Pugh, both of Owasso, Okla.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

LILBURN, Ga. — Hellen Louise Watson, 71, of Lilburn, Ga., died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003. She was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker, a volunteer and a member of Mountain Park United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Mountain Park United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of National Cremation Society of Lilburn, Ga.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; two daughters, Lisa Armstrong of Melbourne, Fla., and Cindy Baker of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister, Mary Epperson of Little Rock; and five grandchildren.
